PS3 controller - is it compatible? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Accessories

I am thinking of buying a PS3 soon. Just wondering if anyone has tried this without root?

To answer my own question, it works via cable. Wireless no. Probably need rooting.

Definitely with root you can use it. I use the sixaxis controller software with mine.

Not even through bluetooth pairing?

game Controler

I bought a PS3 controller to hookup to my Prime but realized that I need a USB port. Since the adapters are back ordered from Asus and Amazon does not carry it I tried to use a USB hub and plugging in the PS3 Controler and ASUS USB into it. That did not work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a Gaming controler to work with the Prime without a USB adapter.
WOW Guess I am not the only one looking for them since EBAY is able to sell them for 45$ each.
Download the SixAxis Compatibility checker to see if the Prime works with the PS3 controller.
Then Download SixAxis.

That app requires root access though.
As fas as I know, there are only two ways. The dock or rooting the TP.

Ah, my bad...
my understanding is the bluetooth PS3 should work regardless of the dock. I know you bought a wired but maybe you could take it back and get one of the wireless ones?
I intend to root and install SixAxis to connect my PS3 controller.

You can't root razorclaw only works on the first firmware version tablet shipped with and you are forced to update
I have the wireless PS3 Controler but other then having root access I cannot find a way to sync without having a USB connection.
I miss my Zoom. It was great having all standard inputs.
I can't believe Asus is turning into the next Apple...
Why would they block Root access? If anything, it only encourages more sales. They're telling us what we can and can't do on our devices that we paid for.

I'm sure Asus is not aiming to block root access it will get rooted no doubt
Because people do crazy things after they rooted their device, and unroot it and return to aus asking them to fix it under warranty. Im guessing they'll do it the HTC way where you give up on warranty when you root.

That's the way it should be. If you brick it, you buy it. haha
I also bought a PS3 controller after hearing all the hype about how the prime supports most console controller.
It will not work at all unless you use a usb cable and connect it to the dock (or have an adaptor). Once ICS comes out it is suppose to support the ps3 controller (lets just hope they mean bluetooth support).
The gamestop bluetooth controller that came bundled with my prime is a joke and a total POS.

I agree on the controller. For the most part its OK but for snes emu its a hair behind in sync. It's also very light plastic and would prefer a wireless controller from a company that makes consoles and gamepads for a living. I can get a sale on the ps3 controller for about the same if not less (40$ with bundle)

Adding console controllers?

Just received my transformer prime, and currently updating it to ICS - so far everything's great ^_^ I'm really keen to try using my PS3/Xbox/Wii controller with the tablet, but can't find instructions on how to pair any of them anywhere - anyone got any ideas?
I wasted money on a PS3 controller to do just that. Then found out that its not compatible (via bluetooth) with the prime.
I have ICS and had to finally root it to be able to use my PS3 controller with bluetooth, using a third party app, but its a pain to setup each game for it.
Wiimotecontroller on the Market allows you to pair a Wiimote to the Prime via Wi-Fi. It's free but can be a pain to set up every time you want to use it. Also, as above there is an app called Sixaxiscontroller (Paid) which allows you to pair your PS3 controller to the Prime but it does require you to root. There are also some third part controllers out there such as Gamestop's own tablet controller.
Cheers but I thought it was meant to have out-the-box compatibility with these controllers?
I believe the compatibility was only wired (USB)... not wireless

You have to connect it via the USB in the dock for it to work out-the-box.
There are some wireless USB dongles that work with some controllers.
Needing root for wireless PS3 controller support is across all of Android. I don't have the technical explanation, I just know that you have to be rooted for the pairing applications to work.
Just get this. It's for the Trasnformer, but I would assume it would work on the Prime. Same connector.
I put the wrong link. But there is an adapter that provides a USB port. I just can't find it. lol
For example, what sort of game controller would you need to make this work. I'm guessing you can't use the PS3 one over USB? Does the cable just transmit power but still connects via bluetooth to the PS3?

Pretty sure the PS3 Controller works perfectly fine when you pair it with the Prime via USB, it's just via Bluetooth i.e no dock/adapter that you have to root it.

I played riptide and used my PS3 controller wired to the dock and it worked great. I want to use it to play other games as well though. I haven't found any other ones just yet though. Any one have any suggestions?

I'd suggest getting a few emulators on your Prime, FF7-9, Crash Bandicoot 1-3 and Resident Evil 3 all work near flawlessly on my Prime other than a few audio issues. I'm waiting for a fully tested root before I go ahead a root my Prime so no PS3 controller for me yet and a Wiimote to play PS1 games sucks

That price is a bit too hefty in my opinion, especially when I can get a compatible controller for ~$10 more which is all I'd be using the adapter for.

Just realised there's a very easy to use Root for the ICS Prime in the Development section. Rooted and installed Sixaxiscontroller and my PS3 controller is working perfectly. Definately recommend doing this than buying the adapter but I can understand why people wouldn't want to root .

I have not tried the ASUS USB adapter, but it should work with the wired xbox360 controller.
I have tried using the wireless controller, with the charge-n-play kit plugged into the TF201-DOCK, which is supposed to make it equal to a wired controller, and that does not work. I do not have an actual 360 wired controller.
On the recommendation of others, I even bought the USB/BT JoyCenter app from the Market, and that did not work, though I suspect that I could use one of my Wiimotes now (I don't like that controller though).

Is the a compatible Bluetooth Controller

Wondering if there is a Bluetooth Controller out there that will work with the Note? Since it is a nice big screen, wanted to try out some emulators with it.
From what I have read, the Wiimote Controller app won't work with newer Samsung devices... So that one is out.
The Wiimote controller not working is a damned shame. I just bought one last month for my rooted Nook Color (which I don't use nearly as much anymore with this baby).
The other options (I know of) that you can explorer would be finding a PS3 Dualshock controller like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015AARJI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&m=A302LUH0HSUQW7
However, you must be rooted to use a Dualshock controller. You could try using the OnLive controller, but that only works with the OnLive app.

I have the ps3 controller working all you need is the sixaxis controller app from the play store (Market) in the description there is also a program you need to download to your computer to reprogram the controller so i syncs with your phone and not your ps3. It's pretty easy took me about 5 mins. Only downside is there is no free version of the app so you have to pay or *cough*acquire it*cough*.
With the PS3 Sixaxis app and controller... you have to be rooted. Or so that is what I have read.
Not sure if I want to root just yet. I am afraid it will somehow pose problems when ICS is released.

Rooting itself won't hurt the update, but removing any system apps, or freezing, will cause an update to fail.

OTG cable questions

Hi,
I want to connect a ps3 controller using the cable to my international rooted s3 but have a question.
How does the phone recognize the ps3 controller with the otg cable? Does the cable come with some drivers to be installed or do I just plug it in and attach ps3 controller and it simply works?
As far as I know, no drivers are needed. Just plug your sixaxis and il will work (you'll have to map the keys into the game anyway).
You shoud also consider using "Sixaxis Controller" to use it via BT.

Is there a difference between a SixAxis Controller vs a wireless ps3 controller? Sorry I dont own a ps 3
I never tried to use a wireless ps3 controller other than the sixaxis.
Many wireless controllers needs a dongle to connect to the PS3. You should ensure that the one you have use bluetooth without any dongle.
In the case you need a dongle, you'll have to connect it with a usb otg cable (you won't need any drivers as I said).
I can't guarantee the "sixaxis controller" app will work with a different one.
Interesting thread,i actually own a ps3 and a gs3 (^^) and never believed i can use my sixaxis via Bluetooth on my galaxy, which games are supported?
Inviato dal mio Samsung Galaxy S III con Tapatalk!
Virtually every game can be played with sixaxis. Some support are native (you'll have to map the keys anyway) like mame, etc.
For games wich can be played "only" with the touchscreen, you'll have to use a special mapping on sixaxis controller.
You'll find some profiles in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800342
For information, GTA III is also supported. I'll have to work on Onlive profiles soon.
Hope that helps.
I picked up a ps3 controller from a second hand store for ten pounds bargain i thought.
Games wise link above is great i havent come across many games that dont work appart from a select gameloft titles

using xbox controller on rezound question

I did search but found older posts on ps3 controllers being compatible. Can I use an xbox controller on my rezound if rooted? If so what do I need to download and how? Thanks!
I could be wrong but I don't think it's possible.. Microsoft uses a different kind of wireless technology to connect their controlers.. not Bluetooth and not WiFi.. that being said I believe Microsoft keeps their wireless patent under lock and key. Would be awesome tho cuz I have neither a Wii or a ps3..

Famouscollin is correct; can't be used on the Rez, or any phone, unless your phone has an RF (besides bluetooth) receiver.
It is a form of Bluetooth, but can't transfer as much data as Bluetooth and doesn't use the same setup methods as Bluetooth.

apparently the Nexus 7 is compatible with the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq3tWODIm6g . so if you have a nexus 7, you can use the 360 controller.
Ok so in theory it could work but there are some requirements that are most likely impossible to meet but if you want to work at it you might be able to do it. If you can get a micro usb to standard usb adapter and get one of those wireless receivers for PC then you'd need to somehow get drivers to work with it which is pretty unlikely but perhaps it's possible. So while in theory it could be done it's not really practical, sorry.
