sounds more or less hardware related, if it is still within warranty, do send it away for assessment...

Watched ur clip. Apart from the screen , I'm hearing the default ring repeatedly. I used to have this ringtone issue everytime i started my phone up. A factory reset and sd card format solved that for me. i agree that screen issue looks hardware related and something that should be covered under your warranty. new digitizer and amoled screen.

Oops mistakenly thanked your post! Lol
Well you could send it off and gamble that they might just fix it even though you have tampered with it.
If I was you I would be tempted to flash back to a stock rom first though.
Yea flash a stock rom via odin, i suppose it gets recognized via USB.
Also use a Jig if you have one.
Just turn the phone off, boot into download mode and hit the volume up rocker after a few seconds. Should work.
I'm on a stock rom, i flashed only a custom kernel..

Can anyone make a video on how to Hard Reset from Recovery?
I know how to, but i can't see, so i need to know the number of button press.
Exemple:
Boot into recovery
2 times volume down->ok->3times volume up->ecc..
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my english i just came back from school(slept 4h)
@xx1182
My phone died in exactly the same way this morning. Lucky for me Vodafone UK are giving me a replacement tomorrow (I expected them to say I had to send it in for repair, because it's 3 months old).
I will be so angry if it turns out that this phone has inherent build-quality/toughness issues. I haven't mistreated it at all.
Hope you get your problem resolved.

Wipe cache => 3 clicks down, home button, 5 clicks up, home button
Wipe Dalvik => 3 clicks up, home button, 1 click down, home button, 5 clicks up, home button
Then turn off with power button and reboot to download. Flash stock kernel, use usb jig, and go over to the service station.

Hey guys, so I just updated my att galaxy s2 via kies to android ICS however after that I've ran into some problems.
After updating however I encountered a period where the screen went black and the phone kinda just died on me. After restarting I began to encounter some problems. For some reason, whenever the phone goes to sleep and and then wakes up, my screen gets flipped upside down and the screen gets really bright. Despite that, I still have to press the screen like usual. Which means that if the call button is at the top after flipping, I still have to press the bottom of my screen. Also the screen isn't perfectly flipped and there is space above the top bar.
However, the phone does work fine on bootup, and only fails after it sleeps. Also, very recently my phone just went through a screen repair after the screen cracked under the glass, but otherwise that I have no clue what's going on.
Is this just a poor repair and a hardware problem or is their another problem here?
Also I've tried a factory reset and that didn't help.
Thanks for any help you can give.

considering this board is all about CUSTOMIZING devices... I dunno about that. Maybe try the AT&T site?
Maybe one of our divas will be kind enough to help anyway.
Yes, I mean divas, also referred to around here as devs. I <3 u all!

There are alot of things that could go wrong when flashing ROMs.
All of the custom ROMs here have built in safeguards which allow users to recover from issues involved with flashing. The same cannot be said about stock builds.
Unfortunately, your options are limited if you're going to stay stock. You can either try a factory reset and re-installing the update via KIES or you can call AT&T. That's pretty much it.
Personally, i'd Mobile Odin a rooted package with CWM and start flashing some of the wonderful work the developers have graciously allowed us to partake.

OP, I agree with the sentiment here, but you can't use mobile odin until your are already rooted. One option you could follow the guide linked in my signature to root the phone and go from there.
My personal suggest is that if you're running stock ROM, updating an official stock ROM and having problem, I call the provider for help.
My download and install went fine but I incounterd some unusual problems afterwards. My phone doesn't always keep a data signal while browsing the internet and a phone reboot makes it return. Setting browsers home to Google instead of default AT&T doesn't stick. I also had few dropped calls and very low signal bars in status bar at my house which gingerbread gave me full ones.
same here

Is there any sign of life in the screen when you reboot the phone?
Do you see the Samsung logo when your phone is starting up?

I've got the same problem too. I managed to get the phone into download mode (the screen didn't show a thing, but Odin recognized it as "ADDED"). Flahsed an official ICS ROM, but the screen keeps black, but the initialization sound can be heard, and the phone still rings when receiving a call!
Dead hardware...I supose...

I have the same problem as you, but this is something I found out yesterday:
If you go to a dark room, and you turn on your S2, you can see some sort of.. light black/grayish pixel spots over your screen. It is pretty hard to see, that's why you need to be in a dark room.
Did anyone else notice this, or am I the only one?

Hi I noticed it too, what I also noticed is that sometimes when using the face unlock on "waking" the phone up with the power key worked, I'm hoping it is not a hardware issue because it's intermittent.
Hi all.
I have this same problem with my screen on sgs2 . Also can see screen in darkness. Sound and phone works fine.
After opening up, came up with this problem
I opened up the back of the phone, to clean off some lint between the camera lens, and the glass on the outside, after closing it, This problem occurred.
The thing is, the touch screen works fine. I can navigate through the phone (using another Galaxy S2 to guide me of course), and everything. I can turn it off and on, etc.
So, this may be a hardware issue, but can someone chime in and let us know the specific hardware issue that may be in play here?
I'm having the same problem. I'm repairing a water damaged phone, and after the cleaning, it would hang on the galaxy S2 logo. I got it into download mode, and left it that way while I was Dling the proper Odin files, but when I came back 15 minutes later, it was a black screen. I finally realized it was still working, and navigated into download mode by memory, and successfully flashed the firmware. But now the screen that was working, refuses to turn on, although the capacitive lights do, and the phone is seemingly working normally.
It seems like it has to be something simple, the LCD shouldn't just die altogether for no reason. I'll keep messing around, and if I figure anything out, I'll report back. Or maybe someone else figures it out, and I can benefit!
As an update, I plugged the non working screen into a working S2, and it showed the Samsung logo on boot up. Then it went black again, but it can still show images, and did it multiple times. So the LCD works, but something is messing it up.

Hey guys!
I have the same problem... does anybody have an idea what's happening to our phones?
Not to beat a dead horse but I am trying to recover pictures from my sisters phone. I plugged in a working screen, get the Samsung logo on boot then a low lit black screen however the boot sound still plays, all buttons on the bottom light up and give heptic feedback and so on. I don't have any lcd lights though... Lastly when I have the phone off and plug into the wall I do get the battery charge symbol flash on the screen but then goes back to a black screen and the battery still charges. I plug the phone into a computer and can see it connected although cant get kies to work with it... Any updates from anyone else or ideas? This phone has pictures of her daughter that passed away and are irreplaceable. I am willing to try anything so she can hold onto those memories

So I was charging my phone, and it restarted itself and now it's stuck in a bootloop!
I can't access download mode or recovery, it keeps restarting before I have the opportunity to press any buttons (hardware or on screen) and removing the battery does nothing either, as soon as I put the battery back in, the phone resets without me even pushing the power button
I'm using Temasek CM11 v8 with the "201113-1248-cm11-i9300-r3p2-linux30101-BOEFFLA-temasek" kernel
Is it recoverable?
I've managed to get it into both Recover and Download mode briefly, but both times the phone restarted within a few seconds back to the bootloop
Sounds like the power button is shorted out, fairly cheap repair if so.

Thanks for the reply. What makes you think that it's the power button shorting?
Holding power button for 5 seconds acts as a hard reset, everywhere.
That's a good starting point actually. There's no reason for download mode to reboot automatically. If it loaded then it waits for the events. Either it works until you do anything with a PC, or doesn't work at all.
hi
try using a universal battery charger and then try again

Ah Well I suppose that makes it pretty conclusive. 2 hours later and it's still bootlooping... I'd take it apart but I don't really know what i'm looking for and I suspect if it's shorting, something will need replacing or soldering etc. Thanks very much

The issue of having it shortly resetting once reinstalled the battery sounds to me like a hardware failure, most probably hard resetting all the time.
A hardware repair should help fix this.

It's funny you say that, after hours and hours of trying to get my phone to work, somehow through more luck than judgement I managed to get it into recovery and flash WanamLite 7.2 (I figured it was the next best thing to stock, as I couldn't access download mode) and well... since then, touch wood my phone hasn't restarted itself even once... now granted in that time i've only touched the power button once, to turn on the device, but it seems like progress to me
So my question is, is it possible that I could of had a bad flash or something? It seems too coincidental to me, and I don't actually think the different ROMs have anything to do with the problem (that is still lingering beneath I suspect), but the optimist in me REALLY wants it to be fixed haha
EDIT: Oh and thank you tweetatoo for your reply

Interesting, thanks. It's just a bit confusing, it seems plausible because I flashed the ROM earlier in the day but at the same time, im not sure how much control the new ROM would have over the phone entering Download Mode... Mind boggling.
I'll keep an eye on it for a bit... and im still too scared to use the power button haha
Thanks very much
Download mode is entirely separate to the rom, I still think your power button shorted out (stuck down) as it's been reported many times before. If you have warranty then now would be the time to triangle away and return to stock for a while, just in case.

Ok. So my S3 has been working fine until this morning where rather than turning onto the normal screen, there were grey and white stripes that kinda look like noise from an old TV. Tried booting with power+volume up+home button and the same thing happened. Only thing I can get onto is the Download mode screen. I've tried everything from just taking out the battery to trying to root it but nothing seems to work. I'm not really experienced with rooting and downloading custom ROMs or anything so that might be the issue but I have some rather important stuff on there so if anyone can help please do so. Cheers
If the screen looks normal in download mode, it could be a corrupted os or graphics file.
Was the phone running a stock or custom ROM?

It was always running the ROM it came with, never really played around much with it till this happened. If its what you say it is, how would I go about fixing it? as stated before I've only just begun to dabble in this sort of stuff.
