Rooting New G900TUVU1BNG3 Firmware - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hey everyone,
This is an FYI if you download the latest tmo OTA update: G900TUVU1BNG3
A friend of mine has the SM-G900T (SGS5 from tmo). He was using TowelRoot to gain root on his phone. Well, after the latest OTA from tmo, TowelRoot doesn't work any longer.
We attempted to root via the GalaxyS5Root.com blog, and that didn't work. Evidently after flashing via Odin, the stock recovery would be restored and PhilzTouch CWM Recovery wouldn't be installed. So, we went another route.
We located a posting about CF's Autoroot posting here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713950
From there we were able to root his phone via CF AutoRoot's ZIP being flashed by Odin.
Anyway, just thought we'd pass this along.
Thanks,
Johnathan

This may very well be important information, but the question before posting in Development should always be, "Is anything created?" - The answer here is "no" so I've moved this thread to General where it belongs. Any confusion as to the rules, please visit the XDA Rules.
Thanks.

Thanks.

Is it possible to root this device? (see screenshot)
And ifso wich guide and files to use?
Member since 2009, 102 posts, yet skipped the stickies and FAQ?
Yes, it's possible, and you've got several choices. Good luck finding them.
I've searched already but did'nt found exactly what to do and i dont want to risk taking the wrong path.

Seriously, you didn't even need to search. Q&A section. Fifth sticky. (SERIOUSLY. Like 3 inches below the "NEW THREAD" button you used to start this thread)

Well i've read it already and been reading a lot about it but i did not asked it if i knew what to use!
Maybe to you it's easy but i can't seem to find the answer that gives me the certain things to do/use.
Hopefully someone will give me the helpful/right answer (as i did in some posts) because when you take the time to reply it might as well be usefull.

Read post #4 of that thread. It has a WORKING link to the "[04/Jan][ROOTING/UNROOTING] DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)
" thread. (I say working because post #1 has NONworking link to the same page. Thread author didn't link it properly)
If you can't understand this and think it's not helpful, I would suggest you not root your phone. No offense.
Thnx i've got it.
I'm not a noob but there is so much info and it's sometimes difficult to read the correct things because of the language.

I think he's fine. He's in the Netherlands, according to his profile, so T-Mobile Europe, not T-Mobile USA... so he SHOULD have an I9100(and does, going by the screen shot of his "About Phone" screen in post #1), not an SGH-T989.
Im fine indeed
Now trying to find out what the Possibility's are now it's rooted.

What are the essential things i have to do now that it's rooted?

You could have flashed a custom ROM withOUT rooting. Indeed, there are several custom ROMs that come already rooted.
EDIT: Sorry, ignore the above sentence. I'm mistaken. You need root. My bad.
Sorry, but in my opinion, you went backwards on this. You rooted for the sake of rooting, then wondered "what can I do now that I have root?", instead of rooting because you needed to do something that required root. But I digress, and I'll get off my soapbox now.
That said, several apps that require root that I like are DroidWall (control what apps can access the internet via 3g and/or wifi), SixAxis Controller (use a ps3 controller on your phone - great for emulators), AdAway (ad blocker), Chainfire 3D (for Tegra only compatible games), Root Explorer (essential for tweaking files in system folders), Startup manager (control what apps are allowed to start when the phone boots), Titanium Backup (backup/restore applications and their data, freeze apps), and SetCPU (undervolt/overclock/change governors/etc).
First of all i rooted for the apps that need rooting like titanium and some other apps.
Second, indeed for flashing because i always thought it was essential. (saw your edit)
Third, i read some things about security issues (dataleaks fe.)and thought i had to root to solve them.
Maybe i'm totally wrong but as i said before there is so much info that its hard to pick the right things out of the topics.
Thanx for your help. Learning more everyday

Flashing roms two methods ODIN or CWM and now MOBILE ODIN .
If you want to flash a custom rom you read that roms install instructions no more and no less .
Most but not all custom roms are flashed via CWM
CWM requires root and CWM install .
Root + CWM .

OK getting further and further every minute
Now know that with the actual root i can't flash.
Do i need to unroot this root before Root CWM?
So i read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and took Odin.
Now wondering wich CF Root to take.
My kernelversion says: [email protected]#2
Wich kernel i need to take:
this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4.zip
or this one: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Or am i reading it wrong?
KJ2 might as well take v5 CWM
jje
And what about the unroot part? Do i need to unroot first and then CF-root?

help please

ok well this is my first time trying to put install a custom rom on my phone but i just have a few questions. i have read all the stickies already but just need a little clarification. i havent quite decided on a rom yet but i know i want to try the siyah kernel. Do i install it through mobile odin?? and then do i do the same for the rom on my choosing?? im already rooted. and depending on the rom i choose, do i have to be on a specific firmware like on 2.3.4 or 2.3.6?? do i have to flash using mobile odin or cwm. i dont want to trip the flash counter. and last question i think, how do i get cwm, or is it already in the phone
First, please use more descriptive thread titles so people that actually search can find relevant info. This title is useless.
Second, all you asked about is covered in the FAQ and various stickies. You obviously did not read the one about not tripping the counter or you wouldn't have asked. CWM is included in almost every custom ROM and kernel. Reading would have told you that. I suggest you go back, read and forget flashing until you completely understand what you are doing. We are not here to bail you out of mistakes you make from not reading and understanding.

Don't ask, read. This is a self-service forum, not the Help Desk. No one in here is paid to give answers, that's why you need to find them for yourself and only ask when it is absolutely necessary. At this point, for you, it isn't as the answers are already here if you take the time to look.
then there wouldnt be a q&a section in the forum.

The existence of Q&A does not relieve you of following forum rules, which clearly state not to start new threads without first searching and reading the stickies. This is common understanding for almost all internet forums and something you agreed to when you joined XDA. Q&A is for the rare item not covered in the FAQ or stickies or found by doing a search. Your questions do not qualify.

Firstly you probably want a kernel with CWM. Siyah & Entropy both have that. Flash it in Odin (This you will have to look at stickies for) and you will gain root/cwm. Then choose a rom that is safe, I would say anything in the dev section that says 2.3.4-2.3.6. You don't have to match your version to the ROM. With the zip you download, enter CWM mode (look at stickies) and flashing it in there. You will now have whatever kernel they use with that ROM.
Want more info? Look in the stickies

Help: I want to know if I did the update or not.

Sorry if it's being asked a lot. I was flashing ROMs last night and I wasn't in the most stable of mind set. Anyway I wake up to a text from my buddy about this update. I remember doing a Samsung update but not an ota and it never went to download mode. How can I tell if I updated it?
I keep seeing VRUAME7 as the new update but this is my current about info and my build is obviously a different rom but my baseband isn't what I see as the before and after screenshot and I just checked my phone with a root checker and it passed. Sorry for being a noob but I came from a gnex! Can anyone give me an idea how to check if I did or if I'm fine?
Sorry I meant to post this in help / q&a not general sorry please move it!!

You're running a custom ROM (CleanROM), so you don't have the update. You do not want to flash the update since it kills root access and prevents the bootloader workaround. This is discussed in nearly every thread in the forum right now.

If you updated you wouldn't have a Root and I don't think you'd have a custom ROM.

The update fails if you have a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM), which is needed to flash roms. So as long as you have a custom recovery the update can't go through

Yes. Especially since I don't fully understand this auto Loki (I understand it flashes a pre release kernel that is insecure hence how I rooted the phone via Odin and motochopper in the first pkace), that and with the boot loader still being locked or at least not unlocked and being bypassed I wasn't 100% positive. [Q] .:New Method to root Andoid:.

Hello,
I am currently using the Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300. Bought this device last April. At that time I was completely new to rooting device. I didn't know what to do. I searched online about rooting device, read many post by users in various blogs and threads here in XDA. Then I was very curious to root my device. But even then, though i knew what rooting was and its merits and demerits, i had no idea how to root my device. So I started searching again for an easy and fast way to root my device. Then I came me across the framaroot thread here and thanks to the developer of Framaroot, I was able to root my android safely without any problems. It was a very useful app for beginners who had no idea about rooting.
After few months, I received a firmware update. I had no idea what changes it would bring about in my device. In a hope to find out the new features, I updated the firmware. But sadly, there wasn't any noticeable change. So once again I seeked the help of framaroot to root my device. I was left with an error message and didn't know what to do. Again by searching on Google, I came to know about the OTA update about which I had no idea prior to the firmware update. I realized that the OTA update was a curse to Android rooting and I was left with my boring stock rom without anything. Today again I searched all over the Internet for a very safe and easy method to root my device but couldn't find anything like the framaroot. So here I am kindly requesting, the deveopers to kindly update the already existing methodsor make a new easy method to root android devices so that people new to android can experiment and enjoy root features. Sorry for the long story, thought it might be useful by explaining everything in detail. Hope I have not violated any of the XDA rules. If I did, I apologise for that too but please don't remove this thread. It would be very nice if anyone can find a solution as there are many people in the same situation as I am right now.
Thanking XDA and all the developers for there services.

Thanks for the post. Nevers seen this before. I will surely try it out. I have heard about odin before but was not confident to use it as I thought it may brick my device. Is there any root apps like Framaroot that can help make the process a lot faster and easier without the use of a computer.

1- Its the fastest and most reliable method I femilliar with- just follow the vid orders step by step (according to your device model), and no harm
should be made (unless you plug out your device in the middle of the process, or using a different model type- but even those can be resolved).
2- No apps that I know. Although i would not recommend it even if I found one- just seems too riksy than using the computer...
Basically all the OP questions are answered in the faqs and guides .
Root is constantly updated as and when possible but its not a simple question of just making a new one . Read the relevant root threads .

If it was only that easy on S3 would save a lot of trouble ..yep follow instructions in thread and use PhilZ .tar.md5 not the zip file and if you are flashing CM 11 you do not need to root the rom is already rooted.

Ow ok ok...thats explains a bit
Thanks.
Something is tempting me to try it out. Lol. If it works, i will report it here and it will help other s3 users too. At the same time, something prevents me from doing it. I get a feeling of bricking my device. Then I will have to fix that too
Before I do something like that, can u predict if it may work since the same method worked for the N7000 or can u tell me if have you tried it before? (Please tell me if I am annoying u, it doesn't matter )
