I just got this phone coming from the HTC One M8 and I have to say I am getting fed up with it. Every so often when I turn the phone on, there is severe lag and the home button does not work at all. Everything I do on the phone lags. This is very frustrating. I did root my phone and using Xposed so maybe I am going to try to uninstall Xposed. Very frustrated right now with this thing.
Once this lag starts, none of my programs will run and I have to reboot my phone to get it to respond.
While this phone isn't as fast as the M8, the behavior you described is not normal. At least it's not normal in my experience. I have a few stutters here and there but nothing that I wasn't expecting. If everyone would experience what your describing, everyone would be returning this phone. Which is what I recommend you do, and get a replacement. Just a side note, I have Xposed installed as well and I still don't have your described issues.
Good luck!

I second that. The G3 definitely has more lag than the M8 but it's sporadic and never more than a split second. I also have xposed installed.
Another thing is that make sure you don't switch to ART. the Verizon G3 has serious problem with ART.

Right now, I disabled all Xposed modules to see if maybe it's one of them causing the issue. So far I haven't had any issues but it's only been a few hours.
I was running the following modules:
Disable Location Consent
G3 TweaksBox
Greenify
NotifyClean
Pandora Patcher
RootCloak
I guess we will see what happens.
Be careful. The people will come out in force and let you know by every way possible, their g3 doesn't lag!
It does. It lags and stutters, but yours does sound a little more severe than it should be...I'd try restoring to factory, then an exchange.

Yours does, and no one doubts same. Mine does not, but many doubt same.
To the OP, there was considerable discussion around the lag issue in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/speed-lg-g3-t2836035

My best bet would be a setting in G3 Tweaksbox has borked your phone. I was running Tweaksbox fine and decided to give myself the option to place 7 items in the Nav bar and when I tried to restart, bootloop. That was something simple but Tweaksbox can edit certain lines in your build.prop and make you have to LGFlash back to stock. Until we at least get a custom recovery I would be cautious of what kind of root-level things I change. I've only had this phone a few weeks and have already soft-bricked it three times with no backups made and no easy restore method.

I am going to bet Greenify is it. Seen several reports of battery savers causing lag issues. My kid had it with one also.
Did you ever figure it out? I am having the exact same problem.
Greenify applied to a program that doesn't handle "greenifying" well can cause nasty lag on any device. If you had been using greenify on the past device with the same program list, look closely at recent updates and make sure greenify and the other program aren't in a constant battle of grenification and wakeup.
As an example I had a program that before a certain update worked perfectly well with greenify, but then it was updated and started consuming the cpu and battery (and made the phone lag). The key thing that helped me identify this is an app showing up in the battery usage details list higher than it normally does.

I actually only have G3Tweaksbox, NotifyClean, and AppSettings. I have reenabled G3Tweaksbox and AppSettings and everything appears OK so far. I suspect NotifyClean. Maybe since I brought over the settings from the S4 I had, that botched something up.

OK, I have written an app to attempt and stop call wonkyness on CM7 builds. Specifically the phone locking up when making and receiving calls.
It's my observation that it's the mic that causes the phone to lock up and so this app opens and closes the mic every minute to keep it "fresh". It's a long shot, but I can't seem to duplicate wonkyness with it enabled so I'm posting it for other to try.
Now after a few positive comments to help boost my confidence in the app, I've made it's own thread to make it easy to track comments.
Just install and run (or just reboot as it auto-start on boot). To disable, uninstall it.
Please post your results!
Change Log:
Version 1.4
Made service more persistent by adding notification bar. Turns out, Android was killing off the service when memory was running low causing wonk to surface.
Version 1.3
Can only be installed on internal memory. Needed to make sure the service can started up on boot. (Thanks to mjukis for pointing this out)
Version 1.2
Only dewonkificates when screen is off to avoid conflicts with any apps you may be using.
Removed debug logging
[Post edited because the wonkyness is still there and this .apk works fine to fix it]
Dude.... As best as I can tell in 20 minutes' time, this damn thing seems to actually work! Gotta tell ya how skeptical I was....but I'm pretty flippin' pleased right now!
Good looking out!!
Much appreciated for this app.
While it's still too early to say it's 100% working, so far so good.
I have had the wonk since build 3 to 23 (except for 16).
I will keep testing and report back often.
That's great news and I'm happy that it looks like it's working for people. I was on the edge of rolling back and this was a desperate attempt to fix it.
Agree with the op. Can't say for sure its the miracle I've been waiting for... but 4 calls in (admittedly 2 from myself, ) no wonks. When I'd expect all to be wonky
If this 'wonklessisity' continues you will surely become supreme ruler of xda!
Will report back soon.

Currently I can't see any measurable battery drain. Dewonkificator doesn't even show on the About phone->Battery use screen. Increasing the time between dewonkification might be work, but since battery doesn't seem to be a issue and we don't know what the source of the problem is I don't think its worth risking or investigating.
I also believe it have something to do with the mic, since all apps that use it have the same freeze, and it seems to work for me. Thanks

This bug is the reason I got off CM7 nightlies, so damn annoying. Maybe this is a Gingerbread thing rather than a Nexus S problem cause the Nexus S is supposed to be rebooting itself while in calls as I'm sure everyone knows.
I have intermittent issues with Sense-based roms, that I also experienced on stock that I'm wondering if anyone else has or has a fix for. Basically, sporadically the brightness toggle in the Power Control widget becomes very slow for the hardware to respond. Another issue that may be related as this happens with phone calls too, and I suspect the two may be related if it is the result of a background process being killed by Sense's own aggressive background process killing.
I'll hit the toggle and get immediate visual feedback (button effect occurs on the UI), I'll hit it a few more times with still no effect. Then, maybe 5-10 seconds later, the actual screen brightness will start toggling like crazy based on how many times I clicked it. Similarly in the phone app, if I dial a number and hit the button to connect, nothing happens. It just hangs out for like 5-10+ seconds then if I'm lucky actually goes to connect the call. This issue occurs sporadically, and seems to be independent of any load-based factors. I suspect it's a software issue as I don't experience anything of the sort under CM10... I would love to just stay on CM10 but I have a variety of radio-based issues with that that make this not an acceptable avenue (sadly).
Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Those are all definitely Sense related problems and its from problems like yours that I switched to CM10. Can you go into further depth with your radio problem?

I tried the latest stable available from CM, as well as Deck's latest CM10 and have been experiencing the following symptoms that, unfortunately, despite how AWESOME my phone feels on CM10 over Sense, they're a deal breaker for me.
GPS Issue: For some odd reason the phone has trouble holding onto a GPS lock. For me it is specifically glaring in Google Maps Navigation where I'm driving along fine with a lock on my position, then Navigation will zoom out with only very broad accuracy (assume via radio-location) and say the message to the effect of "Looking for GPS" for 10-15+ seconds, reacquires a lock, holds it for maybe 1-2 minutes, then rinses/repeats. I did try the Sense GPS fix for this to no avail.
Phone Issue: I've read a lot of people having LTE issues w/ this, but with no LTE avail in my area this is the least of my concerns. My problem is that it seems to sporadically lose CDMA connectivity or something...the network status indicator switches to this right-aligned right triangle Just like this one in the attached image labelled "Emergency Calls". This occurs even if I switch the network to CDMA only... Not a HUGE annoyance except for when I'm on a call, it gets immediately dropped and I look at my phone and that damn icon is showing for network status, though it comes back to service within about 5 seconds. I have tried flashing the updated radios from themikmik, though that didn't seem to pacify the problem.
So yeah, that's why I'm back on this damn bloated Sense If you have any suggestions on how to fix either of these I would be forever in your debt
Honestly, I've run Sense 90% of the time since I got mine the first day it was available without these issues... I know some people reported contact lag but I've never seen it and most sense roms claim to have a fix for it built in.
I'm on the lastest stock OTA rooted and I just sat like an idiot mashing the brightness button for 2 straight minutes with no lag, just smooth transitions in brightness. Even the switch animation worked smoothly the whole time. You may have too many apps installed, or one particular app causing it.
Edit: Maybe you already use this but if not, try it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700211
You might even have a bad wipe,
Edit #2: And now after mashing it a bunch more times I finally replicated it lol.. Hmmm, I guess I was wrong. But its really a hard to replicate bug unless your using your power widget to turn your phone into a strobe light.

I know it isn't something everyone experiences; Though I'm more concerned with those who may have experienced, and have discovered a fix. I've tried virtually every Sense ROM in high consumption hoping this will go away including MeanROM, CleanROM DE 1.5 (was my favorite for a long time, but problem resurfaced there), Viper4G. This issue occurring in stock is what prompted me to try a custom rom to begin with.

I'm on MeanROM 6.5, and just did the same thing you did successfully. It's an intermittent issue that doesn't occur most of the time... but when it DOES occur it is extremely annoying. I will try to see if I can determine if another app could be causing this, but if there is it is just another thing that makes me hate Sense... changing screen brightness and initiating a phone call should be some pretty low-level API calls that shouldn't be dependent on or affected by other running apps... supported by the fact that I have never experienced this issue on CM10 or any of the other AOSP-based roms despite having all the same apps running.

Yeah, I user superwipe between every ROM install.
It's not a certain app in general. The main culprit is sense. That process/software causes the whole phone to be a lag machine regardless of what rom you have it on. Trust me I went through stock and viper4g(which I super wiped prior to installing) and still no prevail. HTC is going to have to fix sense BIG TIME to get rid of these lag issues.

I assume he's referring to the idea that people use their phones for more things than just swiping between home screens... compared to CM10, basic things like launching apps feels like driving down the street with cement in your trunk.
Ok your right its not laggy but there is literally no multitasking and some other processes like earbud remote controls literally takes half a minute for the phone to process. Sense is just bad for your phone.

So here I am, upgraded from the GS3. I understand that the ME7 radio is locked and that safestrap is the only option. But here's my dilemma. I used to get 14+ hours of battery life on my GS3. Now I'm lucky to get 8 hours, if I'm not touching the phone whatsoever. I've tried stock, Jellybeans, and Darkslide (seems to be my only options but feel free to prove me wrong.) Is this normal? Do I have a defunct device? This just seems extremely poor to me... They can't advertise that this phone is so much better if it's getting less battery life than the fricken S3...
Side note: I've tried running w/o my apps, and by turning all of the motion sensor stuff off, but I do not see a difference.
I also am pasting a picture of my battery in stock. You can see that in one day, I have to put it on the charger. Yes, I use wifi, but I honestly wasn't using the phone (and I do not have my apps installed.) The first fall on the graph is me using netflix for an hour (battery decline here is understandable). The second fall is my phone sitting on my desk while I'm at work. I'm on my computer, not my phone... and it's almost declining as much as if I was watching netflix. I've restarted it.... used the android task manager to kill the ram... you name it... Every rom I flash I've flashed is like this. It's astronomically frustrating...

It's obvious that some apps you have installed are causing this, I can get 14+ easy on mine. I highly suggest using Greenify to hibernate misbehaving apps and try to use auto-brightness if you can stand it.

I had put in a side note above stating that I have been running without my apps installed, so it really can't/shouldn't be a case of misbehaving apps. "Side note: I've tried running w/o my apps, and by turning all of the motion sensor stuff off, but I do not see a difference."
I will definitely take a look at Greenify, and see if it helps me. Thank you for that suggestion.

"Side note: I've tried running w/o my apps, and by turning all of the motion sensor stuff off, but I do not see a difference. " I did a ton of reading on this prior to flashing, but from what I see people are only reading my first sentence and trying to answer (which is why the, "Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way," comment irked me.) I have been a rooted android user since Droid X, so I know how to read/research/troubleshoot phone issues. Believe me, I've had to SBF that phone a million times because each flash was like a crapp shoot. This issue however is a commonality between multiple SGS4 roms (Stock, Jellybeans, and Darkslide).
I always shut my location services off the second I flash a rom (unless I need to use my navigator, which as mentioned, I don't have installed at the moment.) But this is definitely a valid troubleshooting question to ask.

Turn off Google location services, see if that helps. That was killing my battery on ME7, same as yours. If your not into rooting, the 4.3 update has fixed that bug, I'm back to 3.5ish hours of screen on time. I did give up root though, so pick your battle i guess.

FYI it is possible to retain root and take the update as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408 If you've already updated though you'll just have to wait for an exploit.
To the OP: It's also possible you just have a bad battery... there have been cases of faulty batteries and some were even swelling up so perhaps you could try to get a replacement to see if it fixes it.
Here is a post I made a few months back..I was battling Horrible Battery life (approx 5-10% per hour). Since i caught the culprit in my home netork I get less than 1% drain idle per hour:
"I had bad battery life on my S4 right after release. I tracked it down to Multicast being ENABLED on one of my Access Points. I would recommend logging into your routers and/or) access points and look for anything related to Multicast and Disable it (or uncheck it).
Granted this was for a totally different device (note that my Nexus 7 was NOT affected by multicast) but it certainly cant hurt anything by disabling multicast..If it does, just enable it again.
My S4 was using approx 5%-8% of battery per hour with multicast enabled...once I disabled it, I now drain about 1% per hour.
This took me almost 2 weeks to discover...keeping in mind that my S4 never connected to the affected AP. I use that AP for older legacy devices.....just having it on the network affected my S4.
Give it a try..if it does not work..enable it again."
PS..disabling Google location services also helped me slightly with a runaway battery drain.

FYI it is possible to retain root and take the update as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408 If you've already updated though you'll just have to wait for an exploit.
I have been hawkeyeing that thread all day lol...
To the OP: It's also possible you just have a bad battery... there have been cases of faulty batteries and some were even swelling up so perhaps you could try to get a replacement to see if it fixes it.

I'm seriously starting to consider that as well... I'm on hyperdrive now but it really hasn't improved that much. I'm currently sitting at 19% since 8:45 am this morning (currently 4:01 PM here). So I'm going to just dip over 8 hours today, sitting at work while on my computer mind you, which is still sad in my eyes...

Turn off Google location services, see if that helps. That was killing my battery on ME7, same as yours. If your not into rooting, the 4.3 update has fixed that bug, I'm back to 3.5ish hours of screen on time. I did give up root though, so pick your battle i guess.

I'm definitely considering that OTA w/survival mode... no doubt about it.
Today I was using Navigation for about 4 hours straight, GPS and location services on, with LTE, also using Bluetooth the whole time for music and Poweramp with some texting in between. I only dropped 35%. It definitely sounds like you got a lemon (either the battery or phone).
Wow, I am jealous... Yeah, I think you're right.
I thought I was alone but there's a thread for this for another carrier (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/lg-g3-d855-shutsdown-t2803292). I was charging my phone and it randomly shut off twice without any warning. It had plenty of battery so not sure what the issue is. It's as if I installed a bad ROM that needs tweaking. Anyone else?
**Update 7/18/14**
The issue was due to ART being enabled instead of DAVLIK. Looks like we'll have to wait for LG to address that later.

I've been following that also but it appears to be only the D855 International version, although there are 3 at&t posts and 1 guy with sprint who posted once, but none of those 4 posted the version. One of the guys that said his was on at&t after being asked said it was a D855 which is still the international version and doesn't make sense LTE band wise, so for now those 4 posts may just be trolls.
Yea it happened several times again tonight so I'm going to get a replacement unit tomorrow morning. No explanation. I just leave it on my desk while working and it dies so I have to take out/put in the battery to start it up again.
Did it shutdown or freeze? Mine froze 4-5 times since I got it today. When it happens I can't even power it on/off. Had to pull battery.
All these started after I switched to ART. And I've switched back to dalvik it has been OK for about an hour now.

This is the exact thing I've experienced with the device today. It froze on me about 3 times with ART. Going back to Dalvik is no problems though

Ye I'm pretty sure it's ART now. I've been on the phone (with dalvik) for about 2 hours and no freeze. Before that (with ART) I had 4-5 freeze in less than 3 hours. I can't say ART is noticeably faster either.
Anyway, I may switch to ART one more time but will run back to dalvik at the first sign of trouble.
I'll try switching to Dalvik cause I'm also on ART. My unit wouldn't respond to any button as it would remain a blank screen until I pull the battery.
It's definitely ART people. I can confirm this, because I originally started with ART and experienced random power offs, force closes and freezes. I did a factory reset and tried again with ART and same issues.
I factory reset it again, stayed with dalvik and NO problems. I have 2 other friends go through the same situation and still had issues with ART.

Is this a Verizon specific issue, e.g., one of the VZW apps doesn't like ART? I've seen many people say switching to ART improves performance with some minor app compatibility problem. but nobody mentioned freeze or power off.
I wonder if disabling VZW bloat may help.

Should this be a concern whenever the G3 is updated to Android L? (I'm assuming that will happen at some point...)

I thought ART will be the default in L. So hopefully they will test the hell out of it and whatever bug they have now will be fixed.

not sure what issues you are referring to. I've had zero issue other than the ART problem. pretty sure that'll get fixed with L, if not earlier.
No issues other than with ART in the last 2 days. I really have nothing to complain about on this phone especially with root, xposed, and tweakbox

ART Shutdowns
I deleted all lg/vzw bloatware and phone was still shutting down after switch to ART... Until I deleted Google Search. No shutdown since.

I'm referring to the many people who have mentioned problems with their G3s after switching to ART, which is what L is based off (as far as I know based on my limited knowledge of it). So, I was asking people, who have more knowledge than I do, if that indicates a potential problem whenever the G3 is updated to L. I know that sometimes updates don't play well with previous versions (like KitKat messing with my old S3).
Good afternoon-
Great phone, but has anyone else had bad operating system luck? Seems like my phone is freezing and/or locking up daily, and needs to be re-booted. If it were windows I'd call it a BSOD incident. My S3 running Paranoid Android nightlies was even more stable than this.
Tim
I am not having problems like you report at all. The only lockups I had were during the brief period when I ran under ART, and they went away completely after I switched back to Dalvik. Note that under ART my G3 got really hot...
That is what I think is causing most of these phones troubles. I think they were designed in a way that is prone to overheating issues. I also think the designers tried their best to avoid overheating through throttling - which causes some performance degradation, and doesn't always work anyway.
Minor assembly differences could be causing major differences in how different G3s heat-load. This could explain why some owners who have reported lockup issues like yours have gotten much improvement by exchanging their phone, which is what I suggest you do if you can.

I agree with Trent. Seems some G3s just don't run well. Mine runs great. I have it rooted with xposed and have removed the bloat and no issues at all. I couldn't be happier.
I've even played some games for the first time on my smartphone including Asphalt 8 and I've played it for about an hour non stop the other night while I had time to kill and still no issues, the game played great, phone didn't heat up and get laggy.... Nothing. It just played.
Hard to say really what's causing the issues for some, could be a funky device, maybe a factory reset would help... Maybe people also should take a look at what apps and widgets they have running as well prior to thinking the phone is junk lol not saying that's you, just an idea

It's a pretty random problem, hasn't happened for a couple of days. I run a pretty lean system, not a lot of apps or widgets. Maybe getting rid of some bloat would help. Thanks all, nice to know it's not something everyone is going through. I'm enjoying the phone more than I thought I would, been on the S series since the first Galaxy Fascinate, so this was a bit of a leap. The combo of Knox and Touchwiz did me in...

I'm wondering if the accessibility service has anything to do with these random shutdowns. I've never turned on ART, but with several xposed mods, tweaksbox, and some debloating, my phone seemed stable for the first few weeks I owned it. One day I had a random reboot. It didn't happen again for a week or so, and then it happened once more. A few days later I noticed one of my tasker scripts (which reroutes gmail notification sounds through the headset iff the headset is connected) wasn't working. I checked the tasker accessibility service and it had turned itself off. After re-enabling it, my random shutdowns soon returned.
Anyone care to try ART with all accessibility services uninstalled? This would include talkback.
