Whenever I click on a video and then enter full-screen mode with it, the video just plays in portrait mode, leaving the entire top and bottom dark. So I have to unlock the screen orientation, go in to landscape mode before I can watch the video in true full-screen. This happens in Chrome and many other browsers I have tried in the play store, the only browser that have a different web-video player is UC browser. It does all that I need when I watch a video (gestures, automatic landscape fullscreen...) but I don't like the browser itself. I prefer Chrome for browsing but not when it comes to watching embedded videos.
So is there anyway to "change" the default web-video player in Chrome? Or is it just impossible? I am using a Nexus 5 btw.
Shameless bump...
No one... ok...

Hi All,
I am new to viewpad 7 as well as xda. I have recently purchased viewsonic viewpad 7 . I want few settings for this device . I tried everything but not able to do so .
1) I want my home screen to be in portrait mode (by default it is in landscape mode).
2) I want my dialpad, calllog, contacts, dialing screen all in portrait mode . I tied everything but not able to do it. I tried installing go contact but of no use . contact came in portrait mode . But whenever I dial any number , it switches to lanscape mode automatically.
3) Which is the best mp4 converter for this tablet(avi-------mp4).
4) Is there any avi player available for viewpad 7?
Assumed you are rooted, download & try VTL.Launcher from Market (free) - and set home screen to portrait mode. It will startup and return to portrait mode, but some apps will rotate and run in landscape mode (i.e. dialer) while others will auto-rotate.
As always, do a TB and Nandroid Backup first.
Stock video player isn't of much utilities, download Mobo Player (free) as it will run avi format (and it will prompt you to install the codec for ARM6 cpu)
Also, I recommend Dolphin HD browser instead of basic/stock browser.
Have fun with it ....
currently i have same question too about dialer.
is there any launcher or something that could turn the dialer screen to portrait ?
coz i've tried every launcher and there's no way to switch the orientation of the dialer.
btw, after several launcher i've tried, i go to basic/stock launcher which is more stable and faster (but still sometimes its bothering me when i see a landscape orientation for dialer screen ^_^
thanks before.......

Click to collapse

I am new to viewpad . What is meant by "You are rooted" ? And how we can do that ?
Fair question and as newbie here, I see that you have a few questions, all related, posted here. Okay, let's get started -
Grab a writing pad, pen or pencil, and start making notes as you progress - set aside a few hours to do this as you do not want to rush & "soft" brick your Vpad7, beginning with the basics:

Follow suggestions to backup to m(icro)SD card as you do things - good luck !
When using the default YouTube app on my Transformer Prime it frustrates me that the videos always begin in the default small view and require me to select full screen playback through a button. Is there a way to have any selected video automatically open that way system wide, through either an app or a setting I'm missing? I hope what I'm looking for is clear enough through my description.

You haven't missed the explanation of your inconvenience unfortunatelly you missed the forum -> Q & A.
To answer you question: nope, haven't found that setting. Would be a nice suggestion for an update implementation.
I'd be happy if it would continue buffering when I pause and the screen auto locks. Sometimes I have to deal with other things, and I don't want the stupid thing to start completely over.
Trick YouTube app to fullscreen playback
If you're rooted, you can install the Xposed module App Settings and then set your YouTube app Screen(dp) to something like 480x854 to make the app behave like it would on a device with a smaller screen (e.g. phone) - because on a phone YouTube plays fullscreen when you're in landscape mode.
I'm using the HD YouTube app found here but I'm guessing you can make this work with stock YouTube also.
The only caveat is that you lose the collapse button to get out of fullscreen - but you can always rotate to portrait if you want access to more info.
Hope this helps, and here's my screenshot of the app setting for YouTube HD (on TF201):
Hi, all
I watch a lot of HTML5 videos with captions in Chrome. The problem is, if I try to go full-screen, the captions are not displayed. Chrome itself supports them, though.
So, how do I change the video player that is used for full screen mode?
I tried clearing defaults for both Chrome and Gallery apps, didn't work. The best I could do is sing Dolphin browser with full screen mode on - but the screen buttons won't go away, and there are a lot of bugs.
One of the things I really like about the iphone is how when I play a video from twitter or Facebook is plays back fullscreen? On Android it tends to just play back in the webpage it's on and if you are lucky there is a button to zoom to full screen. Sometimes there isn't a button even.
Is there a hack or setting that will cause the video player on Android to default to full screen?
Thanks!
I'm writing a Progressive Web App, and I'm having trouble with the behaviour of Chrome on Android wrt how videos go into and out of fullscreen mode.
On mobile safari, it all seems to make sense:
1. if not in fullscreen, pressing 'play' turns it fullscreen, in either orientation.
2. there's also a button to make it fullscreen, which does as it says.
3. if you rotate the phone while in any mode, it stays in that mode - fullscreen in portrait switches to fullscreen in landscape, and vice versa...similarly if not in fullscreen. The only notable thing that happens is that a progress bar appears after you rotate the phone.
On Android, however...
1. while not in fullscreen, rotating works ok..it just stays non-fullscreen.
2. pressing play, does not cause it to go fullscreen (unlike on mSafari).
3. if you go fullscreen, in either orientation, then switch orientation, then it drops out of fullscreen mode, and you get all the controls pop up again.
4. if, while in landscape, you have the video non-fullscreen, and tap the fullscreen control, it will go fullscreen, but it also rotates the video to portrait.
I wonder if anyone knows how to make the Android/Chrome behaviour more like the mSafari behaviour. I guess the key things are to stay in fullscreen even if the phone is rotated, and to allow fullscreen landscape.
Any ideas?
Max.
For testing, I'm using iPhone X on 12.3.1, and Pixel 2, Android 9, PIxel 2 Build/PQ3A.190705.001 chrome 75.0.3770.101
