I have an Asus Padfone 2 A68 JP version upgraded to Kitkat 4.4.2 via asus.com :highfive:
I am unhappy with the upgrade :crying: to my personal experience, the ZenUI interface is not very appealing
1st, it is not user friendly looking for apps, customizing desktop apps and widgets are not that special :fingers-crossed:
2nd, battery drains a lot faster that it used to be
3rd, wifi is problematic, can't make my phone connect to Google Play Store when phone is connected to my laptop, it says no internet when in fact it is :crying:
Can anyone please advise how can a Padfone 2 upgraded to Kitkat be downgraded? I tried the normal way, copying the JP_PadFone2-user-10_4_17_7-UpdateLauncher.zip file on to sd folder Asus\Update, phone notification appears saying there is an update available, but installation fails, obviously because of newer system and read-only files existing.
My Padfone 2 Kitkat is towel-rooted. I only use stock recovery, no CWM or TWRP, not yet. I will try to be cautious this time  I just got back my A66 Padfone 1 from Taiwan for service repair, because it was bricked while I was installing CWM/TWRP.
Any expert advise is highly appreciated. Thanks
you still having a issue ?
try that method
Download original firmware asus webiste. (android 4.1)
unzip it once .
file called 10.............ota.user.zip (at least with ppadfone infinity)
put it on your sd card
if you done disconnect from computer
then it should be a triangle in notification bar upgrade found or something like that if not restart phone and then it should be there.
press ok and wait phone to upgrade/dowgrade.
I hope it wortks.
I have a WW ROM but basically facing the same problem. Still looking for help...
I've spent 2 days researching and trying stuff out until today. I have finally downgraded my Padfone 2 from Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H.WW_PadFone-11.8.4.12-20140804 te) to Android 4.1.1 (GuerillaROM-v1.6_OFFICIAL912014).
GuerillaROM looks just like PF2's stock 4.1.1 and it's awesome for me because 4.4.2 was... aesthetically unappealing.
Anyhow, this is my story, don't know if it will work for you, but it worked for me.
- in step 2 I accidentally erased my files, so... back your files up on a PC.
Don't hold me responsible for anything that happens to your phone, do stuff on your own risk. Guys who do this stuff (not me) have made these procedures as simple as they could, so that the end users (we) could **** our phones up as little as possible. These procedures have minimal risk, but the risk is still there.
1. UnLock (unlock Bootloader)
- got from Asus.com (http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=PadFone+2&p=29&s=1)
(OS: Android --> Utilities --> "Unlock Device App: Unlock boot loader")
- worked now. Didn't work a year ago, don't know why
2. Followed directions from theunlockr.com (http://theunlockr.com/2013/06/09/how-to-root-the-asus-padfone-2/)
- has done me a factory reset (all data wiped) on 4.4.2 + installed SU
- Root Checker: Failed
- Root Checker is an app from Play Store
- stopped at step III 8 because Root Checker didn't verify
- don't know if matters, but I installed
drivers for bootloader from Asus.com (http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=PadFone+2&p=29&s=1)
OS: Other --> USB
2a. I also downloaded adb (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979)
but turns out I didn't need it.
3. went to hexamob.com, found "Android Rooting Method: Towelroot"
- followed that
4. Made it ra1n b^.^d
5. Root Checker: Pass
6. Installed TWRP Manager
- from Play Store
7. Installed TWRP recovery 2.6.3.0
- the later ones didn't work
- the earlier ones messed with SU
- try for yourself
8. Got SuperSU (#) from Play Store
9. Updated it for TWRP/CWM
- (reboot - running open recovery script)
10. Installed GuerillaMOD
- followed from xda
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268613
11. White ASUS logo freeze (like xda said it could)
12. After 2 or 3 forced reboots
magically unfroze after awhile (~2mins)
- don't ask me how or why
- don't count on it magically unfreezing (there's a solution for that freeze on that thread (in the FAQ))

Thanks. mate, very nice work. I will try your guide as soon as I have the chance, although not too soon because at present my phone is linked to many of my online bank requisites.
Your share is well appreciated.

Hi! Sorry for my English, Russian I am writing to you through Google translator)))
problem as follows:
It was a piercing VVE 442? after about half a year longer to work on their own touch-sensitive keys below the screen (back, home, and applications).
to reset to the factory did not help, did hard reset did not help,
He rolled to vve411. everything worked, I decided to put back the WWE 442, okay flashed, but the buttons again have earned, had to revert to 411. 442 would be desirable but for some reason he is not working or rather not work touch-sensitive buttons, and tried to put other regions but to no avail. help vchem washes be the problem?
Hey all
I am considering purchasing RCA Pro 10 tablet that runs Android 4.4. From the research I did on XDA for it I was able to find that it can be rooted using Kingo. But I couldn't find any mention of a custom recovery that can support it. As you know we need the custom recovery to flash ROMs and such. Anyone know of any custom recovery that will work with this tablet?
Thanks
it hasent been rooted yet the 4.4 one which is the one walmart had on black friday is differen t some how then the orginal the connectors are in different places and the modle number is different kingo does not work
I rooted mine but it was a jumbled mess of a process. First install SuperSU, then install and run iroot, afyer that using pdanet drivers plug it into your computer and use kango, open SuperSu and update your binary, finally use a root browser and remove the app iroot installed. Iroot installs the su binary but doesnt set anything up properly, kango will set everything up but cant install the files needed for some reason so you have to use them together. Its messy but it works.
I got 2of the new of the rca pro 10 edition with the 1.5 GHz quad core m/n rct6203w46 the easyist way to root it is plug it in your PC let it download the drivers download pdanet on your PC see if there's more drivers 4 it download Kingo root set tab to USB debuging open kingo root plug in tab to USB kingo root will find it click root it will go through a few steps it will ask if u have a special kernal choose other opt it will restart tab few times and it will say its rooted and install super su if not click root again then it should be rooted restart tab after it says rooted keep attached to PC it will say root status yes then should be 2 options remove root and root again hope this helps you guys who bought the new one on black Friday big plus it never deleted Aney apps app data pics music ect and you don't need SD chip for it ... as far as a custom kernal / recovery i have no idea sorry regarden that

Sargeue,
Using the link I supplied, I downloaded (using my PC) the TWRP image from the last link PaTF provided. I copied the TWRP image over to my tablet. Then using the link mexicandroid provided to the Rashr flash tool on Google Play, I installed it and followed the instructions in the app to flash the TWRP image to my tablet and voila!, I had a custom recovery.
I can also verify everything works in TWRP, such as backup and restore, wipe menu, etc. No custom ROMS available that I know of, so did not try to flash any ROM.
Of note: If you allow an update to the RCA firmware, you will need to re-flash TWRP as the firmware update overwrites the custom recovery.
Hope this helps.

Great, will try it out. Really don't need custom rom, just like having nandroid backup. Thanks for you help!
Perfect! Worked great, easiest recovery I installed to this date. Thanks for your help again Droidify.
Thanks to the thread maker. I knew a lot with this thread.
Thanks
Thanks to Patf for posting the files, Sargeue for asking Droidify to elaborate, and Droidify for elaborating I was able to do this with no problem. This wasn't my first time rooting, and I've flashed a cfw that already had a custom recovery on it which rooted a device( don't know if thats particularly considered rooting), but I think this was the first time I flashed a custom recovery. The TWRP recovery boots just fine how it should and everything works if the instructions are followed. Thanks a bunch guys. I had already got an update prior to this and I am not sure nor do I remember what it exactly was. Its the only update I've got since I had the tablet. I still attempted this, so it was risky, but never the less everything went fine.
Hi all! I somehow soft bricked my RCA tab after updating to an OTA. Anyone have a nandroid backup of the stock ROM? Thanks!
Same problem here. OTA update screwed it up looking for help.
RCA RCT6203W46 1.9.50 firmware upgrade failures
Below is the method I found to resolve the issue I had with the most recent firmware upgrade failing. Use at your own risk.
How to resolve RCA RCT6203W46 1.9.50 firmware upgrade failures (this should also unbrick your device provided you can access stock recovery):
1. Place these 1.3.51 and 1.9.50 update zip files on your external sdcard. If you can only boot into recovery, you will need to eject the sdcard and use an alternative method to transfer these files from your PC to the sdcard and then place the card back into your tablet.
2. Boot into stock recovery. You can do this from a powered off state by simultaneously depressing the power and volume buttons until the white RCA boot screen appears. Once this screen appears, release the power button but REMAIN DEPRESSING THE VOLUME BUTTON until you are in recovery.
3. Select: Wipe cache partition. (use the volume button to move selection up or down, press the power button to make selection)
*Factory reset wipes cache too in step 4, but I am cautious.
4. Select: Wipe data/factory reset. Warning: you will lose any app you had installed.
5. Select: apply update from sdcard. Select the 1.3.51 zip file. Allow it to complete.
6. Select: apply update from sdcard. Select the 1.9.50 zip file. Allow it to complete.
7. Select: reboot system now.
8. Enjoy your upgraded RCA RCT6203W46 once again!
Probable causes for issue:
Rooted system (forgot to unroot prior to upgrade)
Removed or froze any stock app (including Vudu, Walmart, etc)
Modified a system file (build.prop, etc)
Bad luck
installation aborted...
Hello! I just did this guide but it didn't work. I always get Installation Aborted with Step 5 and Step 6 both of them are Aborted. I followed carefully your guide but still no good for my tab. I uploaded the two installation aborted message from android recovery. The first photo is when i update the firmware 1.3.51.zip and the second photo is installation aborted too when i update the firmware to 1.9.50.zip... Please see those photos if you can see what it made to abort the installation process. I hope you can help Droidify. And also, when i rooted my tab pro 10, i only remove the Vudu app and another app that was included but not the Walmart app...
Did not work for me...

First of all Thank You for trying to help, you are doing more that Walmart & RCA combined.
I followed your instructions and this process did not work for me. I have attached pictures of my screen after using both zip files...
Also I only rooted the tablet using Kingo I didn't remove any system apps
I think a key difference in my case is that I had TWRP installed and was able to boot into the system and unroot, install stock recovery, and then perform this procedure. Seems like you guys never had TWRP installed as recovery. I have a couple other tricks I am working on, but be patient as I vet them and see if something might work. Sorry this didn't work for you guys!
Any updates on this?

No didn't use TWRP.
My tab is only 20 days old & still under warranty so I'm just going to send it back to RCA.
Was hoping to fix it myself so I wouldn't have to wait 4-6 weeks.

Unfortunately, I'm boned as far as returning it goes because rooting voids your warranty.

Well then there is no sense for me to keep trying to resolve this considering I have no way to test fixes, especially if what I posted resolved my particular case. I did send someone a test to try and if that is successful I will share, but outside of that I tried guys.
I guess the lesson learned here is that we all have to remember to unroot and not delete the apps that came with the device, only freeze them using Titanium or similar and unfreeze them before updating.
Hello how are you ? Well, as everyone here I am another who needs help. I have a Xperia Z2 and today I finally managed to make the ROOT (yeah!) Only that my happiness was short-lived, because of a stupid my ...
After having the procedure done and all settled cute I saw that had a android update message to 5.1.1 (since to root I installed 5.0.4) then went all happy thinking that would get being a super user and with the updated device falls into the mistake of installing. At the time of restart phone me the message: "ERROR - Update Failed", and has no way to do anything. I've tried various methods but none worked. "Now Joseph," what do I do? haha

"Now Joseph," what do I do? haha

First you need to remove root and make sure all root files from your /system are gone.
Root prevent the phone from doing OTA updates because you have modified your system.
If you can't update OTA try flashing using flashtool it will remove root obviously because it's a newer Frimware.
For your information 5.1.1 root isn't the same way as 5.0.2.
Quick tip if you want to keep your root access try installing a recovery and busybox and make a pre rooted Frimware and flash it in the recovery.
I hope this was helpful.

Thank you for wanting to help, but have tried for FlashTool, PRF Creator and various manual methods in the mobile itself. Here's a video of how it is: "Z3 COMPACT AFTER ROOTING"
However, recalling that mine is the Z2. I found this video on youtube and that's exactly how is my mobile, but I can not post links forum.
If it's this https://youtu.be/VPrJthvqKfE
Flashtool will fix your issue. Install the drivers and flash a ftf file to fix the system partition.

1.Download a pre-rooted firmware 5.1.1 (flashable zip)
2.Boot into Recovery (TWRP Recommend)
3.Install - Choose ROM direction - flash the ROM zip and wipe cache\dalvik cache
(don't worry this won't wipe your data)
# I highly recommend you to do a factory reset after flashing because if you didn't the phone will be laggy and battery will drain extremely fast
*And If you have xposed installed don't forget to remove it because it may causes problems
If I Helped, Leave A Thanks ?
Hi guys!
Today I rooted my tablet (Android 4.2.2), but unfortunately I deleted some Google Apps so I decided to bring back factory settings. After that I always get "Setup Wizard stopped working" and can't get through it.
I can't even go to settings.
Can you help me?
Thanks!
FYI: Factory reset doesn't bring back deleted apps. You will have to restore your tablet with the original firmware or if you have a custom recovery like TWRP, then you might able to reinstall the missing apps that way. Without more details on what kind of tablet, we can't provide more detailed assistance.
My tablet is Lifetab (Lenovo) E10320.
I tried to install GApps for 4.2.2 (zip file) through recovery mode (I don't have TWRP installed) but after few seconds from start I get "Installation aborted".
E: Any ideas?
Gapps will only work through a custom recovery. Very unlikely that a random Gapps package would even work for stock software. Generally it doesn't. If you don't have a custom recovery, then you will need to restore your tablet to stock with whatever tool and firmware Lenovo has for that. This would be the easiest, best way to complete this task anyway.

You might check that forum out. I'm sure they have a lot more knowledge about these devices then most people here on XDA are going to have.
Is there any way to configure "ResearchDownload" to work with cyanogen recovery?
I've been trying to unbrick my lenovo A1000 (smartphone) for the past 6 hours. It got bricked after I tried to do the OTA update while i had Cyanogen recovery unstead of stock. I found the right tools, drivers, stock firmware to flash, but it can't be flashed with CWM. I keep getting "user cancel" without doing anything, and it just boots into cwm and does nothing.
So my questions:
Is there any way to configure ResearchDownload to work with cwm?
I can't find the right stock recovery for Lenovo A1000, given that its a relatively new and not well-known device. Any way to find that?
If i manage to find the stock recovery, how can I flash it?
I did a factory reset and cleared cache after the failed OTA Update, so I am not sure if I can find any files from within my device.
Thanks for helping!
