~So I haven't really seen anyone else with this issue so I don't know how to fix it.
My phone likes to randomly not load things via internet. Mostly happens with ATT Data connections, but sometimes it happens with Wifi as well I believe (hasn't happened with wifi in a long time).
I can try and load a page and it will simply not load a thing for a good while (sometimes hours), then all of a sudden it will load like it's on a 10MB connection.
Happens with the internet browser, facebook, and any internet apps. Really gets annoying when I'm trying to browse the internet
I have tried different APNs to no avail, tried turning wifi on/off, changing all wifi settings, etc.
Anyone got any suggestions? (Maybe I'm just retarded and there's a well-known fix for this... at least I can hope right?)
Thanks
EDIT: It also used to never send MMS until I changed APN's if that makes any difference. Just not sure if its a software/setting issue, or if its hardware that needs to be replaced.
There are two APN settings, one of which is used by MMS. It sounds as if your APN settings might have been wrong at one point. What are your APN settings now?
Are you on a different ROM? Do you use a 3rd party app to disable and enable the data connection (to save power)? I know my app sometimes doesn't turn the data back on, so I have to go in and do it myself.
Is this your first phone with AT&T? If so, where did you transfer form? Did you have a data plan with your previous carrier? Did you buy your phone from Amazon?

My APN settings are the "phone" HSPA and "phone" MMS settings from the large thread in this forum.
The phone isn't even rooted. No different ROM, just a stock phone. No 3rd party apps that disable/enable data.

I've had ATT for a decade or so now. Phone bought and activated in an ATT store, and last phone I had was an iPhone, so whatever data plan that used was what I was previously using. I would assume they changed the plan to reflect the android device (if there is any difference), but I wouldn't really know because it is on our family account.
Anybody got any clue? This is really annoying the **** out of me. Also found out my brothers phone (on same family plan) is doing the same thing.

Maybe download Tweakker from the market; it automatically rewrites APN settings for your phone and carrier. CM7 uses wap.cingular, and I used Tweakker to change it from that. Worked, no probs, loved me long time, yada yada.
Thanks, just downloaded it. We'll see if it makes any difference.
Worked great until just now. Lost internet again. Thanks though.
Any other ideas?
i am on AOKP, not sure if you have the options to do the following in stock but try.
1.do you have the option of deleting APN? delete all...
2. force the phone to look for wireless carriers (takes like 4 minutes).
3. click on At&t to registet on it.
4. reboot and the original apn should be there.
I reset it back to the original APN but I dont expect it to help... I had the problem even before I started messing with the APN. We'll see how it goes though.
Any other suggestions are still welcome.
I have a similar, if not the same problem. I have concluded that it's either a modem/hardware issue or network issue. Every one and a while, I'll have to wait ~20 seconds for the internet. This always happens on AT&T data. Once the connection is made, the green and orange data indicators light up and the page loads just fine. Changing the APN's increases my internet speed by a lot, but does not fix the latency issue.
Someday I'll get around to calling AT&T.

Sounds like the same issue to me.
I keep thinking I should go to the ATT store but I really dont feel like having them do a reset of my phone then send me home without actually fixing anything.
Have you noticed what kind of connection you have? I don't use stock, so I haven't thoroughly tested this there, but I believe I experience the same issue. I'm running CyanogenMod 7, and what I see is that whenever the phone drops to 3G, I don't get data. I can force 2G (Edge), which works, and if I pick up HSPA+, I get data. If I'm in fairly sketchy signal areas (bad parts of buildings, fairly far from towers, etc.), I'll notice it flip-flopping back and forth between 3G and H+, with no data. I've never had an issue with wifi not properly loading anything.
I did try switching back to stock for a couple of hours, and it appeared my issues were more along the lines of what you describe, without actually displaying a flip to 3G when I can't get data...but like I said, I don't use stock on a regular basis.
NINJA EDIT: I'm on my second phone with this issue, after getting a refurb due to a USB port going bad. I've tried flashing multiple modems, and have been able to increase my speed, but have not been able to fix the issue when I drop to 3G.

Im in an area where I constantly get 4G or LTE... I haven't really noticed a correlation between the drops and whether or not its on 4G/LTE. I haven't experienced it on Wifi in a very long time though.
Also, the stock APN seems to magnify the problems greatly. Switched back to the Tweakker APN and it runs much better (although it still happens occasionally)
Had the same issue as you, try my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199 it seems to have helped many!
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy S II (I777) Killin' it with Task650's awesome AOKP ROM port!
Thanks but the Tweakker APN seems to have solved the internet issues. Only problem now is that MMS doesn't work with the Tweakker APN. Anyone got any suggestions on that?
Normally I only have 5 Quick Settings icons enabled (Quick Memo, Wifi, Sound Profile, Data, and Bluetooth), however every time I reboot my phone, the Wifi Calling icon re-enables itself and pushes itself in between the Data and Bluetooth toggles, pushing Bluetooth off of the screen. I realize that it's easy to just go back into the 'Quick Settings' settings and un-tick Wifi Calling again, but it gets really annoying when I reboot multiple times a day. Does anyone know of a more permanent solution besides just un-ticking the box every time I reboot? If it helps, I am using the Gold edition G3 from Sprint (obviously) and I'm rooted. This 'problem' has been going on since I got the phone.
I have the exact same issue, but I have my WiFi Calling quick setting button enabled. Normally I have Bluetooth in the fifth and right most spot, but WiFi Calling always forces it's way back to that spot upon a reboot, pushing BT to the next page.
In the Edit menu, they show correctly but they are actually flipped, so I just move one of them then move it right back.
Not a huge problem, it's just a weird little glitch I've never seen before on any other device.
I was just about to post about the same situation (wifi callling always showing in quick settings).
Is there a fix to this. It is getting annoying because I never use wifi calling yet it always shows up in quick settings even though I always uncheck it the quick settings options

I doubt there is a fix for it yet. I can't even reorder the icons, without it changing them back to original order.

Im having the same issue, before and after root. Anyone heard of it happening on other carriers or is it just sprint?
We should all contact Sprint and let them know. Maybe it will be fixed with an update.
This is very annoying...
I too have this same issue

I don't know if there is another thread out there that has this same info in it, if so i totally apologise. This is for people on android 5.0+ but also worked on previous android versions as well. Also this was just the way i choose to do it so that my LTE antenna would be totally off all the time.
1) Go into service mode *#0011*# hit menu:back next menu:key imput, type in "Q0"
2) #1UMTS
3) #1DEBUG SCREEN
4) #6PHONE CONTROL
5) #1DRX CONTROL
Click on LTE Rx0 And Rx1 off. Your phone will reboot by itself. When it turns back on it will only stay on 3g from now on unless you go back through those steps and turn it back on.
Not 100% sure if that is the most beneficial way to do it but when i didn't want 4g on at all to conserve data and battery life that was how i did it but i actually did it on accident the first time but after i figured out what i did i then used that method all the time especially now since android doesn't give the option to switch through mobile networks.
I got the hidden menu you described using *#0011#, but I can't get anything else to work. When I press the menu key, I see the menu and the option BACK, but nothing happens when I press it. I don't see the "next menu" step. Any advice? Could you maybe tell me how to do this like I'm 3 years old? I'm so annoyed cod the only way I can text on this verizon s4 is via mms since I switched to tmobile. I managed to get root but still haven't found a way to subvert the verizon smsc setting.
Thanks in advance!

To fix your smsc follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...utorial-make-verizon-s4-functional-t-t3277682
you subscribed a tutorial that is good but before posting submit the title in the title section then you will be shown automatically that there is related post already available in the forum or not .
I have been experiencing 4g connectivity issue the past 3 weeks. I have been running cm 13 rom for about a month or two with no issues. But then 4g connection disappeared and i was only getting 3g. After trying different fixes, i have narrowed down the the problem to prl issue. When phone restarts or battery is swapped, i get notification that sim card is not detected and only 3g data connection. Once i do a prl update no sim notification goes away and 4g works. Once phone restarts no sim message is back and 4g is gone. Any idea what the issue could be and how to fix it. Thanks.

I dont have the rom so i cant give u an absolute answer here but I would try toggling off the battery saver because if its on and active it can unfortunately switch to a lower band to conserve battery so that would be my first guess. Switch it off and reboot.

If that doesnt work try another method. Download shorcut master lite. On the top left click the 3 dots and select search. Type in Modem. Now look for the one on the list named com.lge.hiddenmenu.lte_only.modemsettings make sure u choose the right one they all look similar but that one says LTE_Only thats the one u want. now click it. Then press favorite so its there when u need it. Then launch it. Select modem settings, then select RAT selection click that. Here you will have a list like LTE Only, GSM Only, WCDMA Only, GSM/WCDMA etc.. But at the top you have Auto. Thats the one i picked Im pretty sure thatll connect u to 4G thats what worked for me
You needn't read this thread. There is nothing of any import here.
I was unable to learn how to delete it, or I would have.
As I mentioned below, I manually updated this phone to Nougat using the LG Bridge program. It complicates matters that I can't remember the exact time-frame for issues. I do remember getting real-time traffic updates using google maps even after I upgraded to Android 7. And I did stream Netflix once while on a 12 hour roadtrip, but I can't remember if that was before or after the road-trip. I have found and tried many APN's for the H2O service. Some are supposedly specifically for the G5, others just for mms or internet. Most recently, I did a factory reset after backing up my personal data and media. Twice now actually. The first time, I ran the backup software soon after resetting and when things hadn't changed, I surmised that maybe I was just importing the problem back onto the phone in my settings or something, so I reset again and this time only chose two of the settings categories near the top of the list since they seemed separate to the navigation programming.
I'm going to reset again now and see if the maps work with a stock setup, then see if I can slowly add things one at a time and continually monitor the data functionality.
If a moderator sees this and can delete this post, I would appreciate it since it doesn't seem like it could be helpful to anyone else the way it is. If I am successful in getting the data working and this thread still remains, I will post the process I had followed to achieve that in an "Issue Solved" heading at the bottom. Everything between the snowflakes (*****) is the older post and edits.

History of Issue(s):
>This is my first smartphone and my first Android device
> Bought phone used off swappa running MM 6.?
>Have owned phone for around 8 months
>Volume down button wasn't working, figured I could live with pressing vol up and moving it down manually.
> Thought it would be good idea to upgrade manually to Nougat (10h update) Using LG bridge (about 5 months ago?)
> My carrier is H2Owireless, an AT&T MVNO
> Used to have internet, google maps real-time traffic used to work, Netfilx used to work (both without WiFi).
> Could make calls, send texts, listen to Pandora or Spotify and use my Maps for commuting to work.
> Couldn't send MMS pic msgs.
> Began to learn about APN's and what the different network settings did.
>Tried many APN's and fotzed around with Global, LTE/CDMA, LTE/GSM/UMTS and the submode settings
>Can get 4G and LTE , often have to switch back to Global setting to send SMS/MMS
> Had H2O set up APN as best they knew and network settings to what they felt would work best
> Can do anything and evrything when Wifi is enabled (that's never been an issue)
> I thought phone had bricked about 2 months ago while on a roadtrip.
> Discovered on forum that I could swap cam plus for chin and power on that way.
> Turned out power button was no longer functional
> Learned about vol up + charger to power on phone (use an app to power off and restart phone)
> took off cam plus so I could have phone in case.
And now, I'm standing at the edge of a very deep rabbit hole with a phone that can't use mobile data for most internet access (spotify works, Pandora never worked very well). I've discovered that the version of Nougat I'm running is problematic (update 10h Brightpoint) and that my forcing the update to Nougat might be largely responsible for these issues.
I see myself having a choice between learning how to flash the phone back to Marshmallow, or learning how to flash it up to update 21c... or live without mobile data for most of the functionality I wanted from the phone...
I seek advice from the the forum for which of these options people think I might best choose. Do I need to acquaint myself with these programs used to flash the ROM? Does it seem to you readers that my problems are symptomatic of those which are best rectified by flashing up? Or rolling back to Marshmallow...
I just want to be able to google something while I'm away from wifi.. to get traffic updates while I'm using the navigation.. to listen to spotify.. maybe even watch something on netflix... (calling, SMS and MMS functionality is a given, but I do still have them for the most part).
I can pick things up if I read tutorials / guides... I've flashed PC BIOS before... I could figure it out if I needed to...
But maybe I just need a new chin or clean it? Maybe I should factory reset? Maybe there's other potential causes I'm unaware of?
Any and all suggestions are welcome. It's late here and I won't be reading any responses until tomorrow at work.
Thanking you very much in advance. --Wayne
Edit: I was about to check LG Bridge to see if there was an update available for nougat.. thought I would get this out there first since I was pretty sure I wouldn't get both done tonight..
3rd edit: I checked for LG update, nothing available. I finally decided to factory reset before getting into flashing. That seemed to fix the google maps issue as it seemed to be working without WiFi enabled (I say 'seemed' because my office is slightly below grade and getting a good signal is tough. If it's not working, the address remains grayed out and the connection just buffers, the address filled in after the reset. Then I decided to move some of the things I had backed up from the SD card but neglected to deselect the settings box. After restoring much of what I had backed up, It seemed more like how it had been before the reset. I noticed a small icon next to the signal type and strength meter at the top which hadn't been there before the reset (a small white square with rounded edges that has a zig-zag line going through it that kind of looks like a jagged "N"). Instead of saying offline, the app says poor connection, so I will test it on my way home.. I am hopeful. It seems promising. If I have to reset again, I will deselect settings and set things up fresh; I think that will help. I am beginning to think this isn't so much about my OS or any hardware failure as it is the H2O at&t mvno being throttled or something similar. Even when I'm getting 4 bars of 4G, the maps loads very slowly.. nothing at all like it does on WiFi.
I'll post a final edit after I try it out on the ride home this evening.
