I don't know if there is another thread out there that has this same info in it, if so i totally apologise. This is for people on android 5.0+ but also worked on previous android versions as well. Also this was just the way i choose to do it so that my LTE antenna would be totally off all the time.
1) Go into service mode *#0011*# hit menu:back next menu:key imput, type in "Q0"
2) #1UMTS
3) #1DEBUG SCREEN
4) #6PHONE CONTROL
5) #1DRX CONTROL
Click on LTE Rx0 And Rx1 off. Your phone will reboot by itself. When it turns back on it will only stay on 3g from now on unless you go back through those steps and turn it back on.
Not 100% sure if that is the most beneficial way to do it but when i didn't want 4g on at all to conserve data and battery life that was how i did it but i actually did it on accident the first time but after i figured out what i did i then used that method all the time especially now since android doesn't give the option to switch through mobile networks.
I got the hidden menu you described using *#0011#, but I can't get anything else to work. When I press the menu key, I see the menu and the option BACK, but nothing happens when I press it. I don't see the "next menu" step. Any advice? Could you maybe tell me how to do this like I'm 3 years old? I'm so annoyed cod the only way I can text on this verizon s4 is via mms since I switched to tmobile. I managed to get root but still haven't found a way to subvert the verizon smsc setting.
Thanks in advance!

A VERY long time lurker here, I saw quite a few people here having issues with their WiFi disconnecting all the time. I too had the same problem until I stumbled across a fix. I found this on another site, but either way it worked for me.
Open up your dial pad and enter *#0011#
Service Mode will open up.
Hit the menu button, select "WiFi"
You'll see "WiFi power save mode", the button under it will say "on" and the letters will be blue.
Turn this setting "off" and you should be good to go.
I take no credit for this fix, but thought I would share with those having issues.
I also posted this in another tread, but thought this would be easier for those having issues to find.

Well pick your poison, Wifi that doesn't keep disconnecting and pissing you off or use a little more batter. I've had this going for over a day now and haven't noticed any excess battery drain.
I'll keep an eye on it and report back.
While this may work for some, it's NOT a solution that's permanent like changing your router to use a single encryption. You have to reset this on every boot. It also doesn't work in every case. I've turned this off, it's off right now, should I put up a video that shows the switch off and the unit getting connected again? The software has a problem (IMHO) with the re-connection negotiation. when it does a re-negotiation of the connection link speed, it drops the connection to make the change, it shouldn't. "N" only WPA2-AES radio with a 128bit password certainly has a problem. I won't accept lesser security like TKIP (more widely reported as working) or a shorter password.
IF you had to turn the Wifi Power Saving Switch off, you and everyone else, needs to call Samsung and report it, so it gets fixed, ASAP. http://youtu.be/YQyenxUHxsk

update your router to latest firmware or latest 3P firmware.
if you are using 5Ghz don't use DFS channels
if you are using 2.4Ghz don't use 40mhz wide channels
wait for a fix from Samsung, they are aware of the problem and are working with multiple people to figure out a solution.
Meanwhile
I don't have any issues with WiFi.
And if I do rarely, I just turn it off and back on. It usually happens coming home, and trying to discover router. Happened twice I think.

This worked for me. As stated above.
White Hot! GS3.
So, over the past couple of weeks, my phone just randomly loses the ability to use data. I use that term because, 4G is still on the phone, i'm not getting a no service signal, I just can't do anything that would use data. I'll be at work, using the Wi-Fi, then i'll leave and all of the sudden, nothing. It's like my phone just loses signal, but doesn't tell me it is. The little arrows under the 4G symbol don't do blink, nothing happens. I end up having to restart my phone. I haven't done anything different for this to happen. No updates, i'm not in abnormal areas when it happens(even if I was, it comes back after restart), nothing. Anyone have any insight on this?
I've had the same issue for about a month now. I am rooted and used this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558
if i reboot i get my signal back, or sometimes if i toggle airplane mode on/off it will come back. haven't been able to find any fixes on it yet though...
I have the same issue, I've found toggling airplane mode works 90% of the time.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
If u go to > Settings>Wi-Fi and tap the hardware menu button (bottom left most button), tap advanced...see if Smart Network Switch is "checked". If so, try toggling.
This is the worst bug yet!
I hope someone finds a fix to this soon. I am running 5.0.1 on a Verizon S4. All the techs at the Verizon store could tell me is that I need to upgrade to a new phone. After telling them I didn't want a new phone right now they gave me a new SIM card but that hasn't helped either. When I go into an area where I don't get service it seems like my phone just stops searching (perhaps to save battery?) Then it never seems to wake up and find service again even after I go back to a known 4G location. The toggle airplane mode on and off thing rarely ever works, so I don't think the radio is just "sleeping" to save battery. A complete restart is the only thing that helps.

I have this same issue (stanglite 5.01 ROM) and have tried a number of things to resolve it. I can post those steps if it is helpful to the discussion. In short, I've tried several modems and resets.
I should specify that mine is not identical to the OP as mine specifically shows that I have no signal. and it doesn't seem to be trying to find signal.

Not sure if it's just me or not, but ever since the update, my antenna seems weaker. I've never gotten much service at my house, but typically, I could go near a window, or outside and get service. Now, once it goes so long without service, the only way to get it back is to restart my phone. I've tested this even going into areas where I know there's good service. I've tried toggling airplane mode on and off, and even that doesn't get it to hook back up. It's incredibly annoying having a phone I pay this much for, and yet, can't use it without restarting every time I want to make a call or text.

One of the responses from this or another thread on this subject mentions to try changing "Preferred Network Mode" to LTE/CDMA. I did this and then rebooted (didn't work until after the reboot). It seems to have corrected my issue (I did also uninstall some apps I don't rely on but otherwise no other changes). Note that after another reboot the mode seems to have switched back to Global, but the issue has not returned.
Change "Preferred Network Mode" from Settings > More networks > Mobile Networks > Network mode.

There are tons of hits on this issue but no solutions...
It would be nice to find the actual problem instead of throwing a bunch of things at it to see what sticks.
I've done a search and haven't found anything so far, so, thought I'd ask here:
What is the purpose of the hidden menu?
How do you access it?
What will it break if I activate it (I've seen some saying that it will break knock on (which i don't use any way and just seems gimmicky)?
Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, found it elsewhere: To access it, you have to input the code 277634#*# into the dialer.

Hasn't broken my knock-on, either.

There was a specific setting you'd have to change in order to break it. I don't remember which one.

I have the T-Mobile version and it was too strong of a coincidence that knock on broke the same day I discovered the hidden menu and started exploring. I didn't notice which menu broke knock on but I do know it had to be something I tapped in the hidden menu because I wasn't doing any other kind of modifications to the phone.
Really it just depends how boldly you explore the hidden menu options. If you do just be prepared to have to perform a reset.
Good news is that if you do break knock on, a device reset will fix it.
Also the official LG backup software seems to back everything up, app settings and even side loaded apps. It's just a little awkwardly implemented in that for security verification it requires you to re-enter the google accounts you had on your phone when you did the backup in order for it to even begin the restoration.
Meaning reset phone, re-enter your google account(s) on your phone, say no to google's auto restoration, then perform the LG bridge restoration.
Since google can automatically partially restore you'll have to say no and just leave it to the LG restoration process otherwise you'll have Play store restoring and updating apps at the same time the LG Bridge is trying to restore.
Played around with the hidden menu and indeed broke my knock feature. Didn't even change anything. I thought something was wrong with the phone. Took it back to tmobile for an exchange.
You can use any shortcut app off play store to put a link to the hidden menu knockon setting and turn it on and off.
I also have accessed it to enable fast dormancy to improve battery life for my TMO V10. It did not disable my knock features thankfully.

Great, however when there are no settings to turn it back on readily available (ie, in the settings menu), it DOES break it. Back when the issue was discovered, the only way outof off the problem was a reset. I'm glad there's another way now, though.

i looked at fast dormancy but i'm wondering if you get missed calls or dropped tet messages i turned it on to see a bit ago, but i wondering if i can leave it on seeing that i need to be able to get calls and text all the time.
now I'm all worried about giving this a try, lol, will do it anyways though cause well, it's me.
Went to WIFI and hit the last option of the Upsell page (hopefully unlimited tethering is mine now)
Knock on still works
Hi Fellow ATT S7E Owners,
Some of us have chosen to stay Stock on this phone. My primary reason is not tripping Knox and using Samsung Pay. I have been trying to fix most issues or workarounds:
1. AdBlocking
2. Mobile Data toggle
3. Package Disabler to turn down the bloat
But for us ATT users, there is this annoying continuous notification that pops when we turn off data for the first time, after a reboot, EVER IF, we have WiFi on ! It goes, "Mobile data is turned off."
Googled and researched ways of getting rid of this annoying message. Wondering if any of you had success with it? Getting all of us to talk about it to see if there is a solution, thank you!

There is very simple solution . Turn your data on. If you worry that you get overages turn off some background data for apps. When you on WiFi your mobile data is not in use.
For all the hype about having control over your notifications, not being able to change this one is super annoying. I'm also guessing AT&T is trying to get us to us as much data as possible so they change charge us more.

It shouldn't have to be this way, if I don't want data on, don't you agree? Why have needless signal processing or searching when I don't need something? ?

The only way to get rid of it for now which is not very fun btw, Swipe right on the notification until you see the gear on the left and tap the gear. After that tap "phone" with the green icon next to the word "phone" and then tap "force stop".
So far that's the only way to get rid of it.

No Sir it was never solved and I moved on to the S8+.
The Theme I was using was called, "Red Strokes" I believe with custom icons and a wallpaper.
Hope someone cracks this!
Galaxy s9, Android 8.0.0 here. Following worked for me, check if it works for you:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Developer Options
3. Look for "Keep Mobile data turned on". Uncheck that.
And hopefully, voila...
EDIT:
This method does not work anymore...
1. Settings
2. Apps
3. Select Options, then Show System Apps
4. Locate "Phone" (Maybe there will be 3)
5. Select every "Phone" App that you find and select "Force to Stop"
and the message dissapers.
(If you restart the phone you will need to do this again).
I have just encountered a problem after performing the dial in this thread from XDA:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/us998-hidden-menu-lg-v30-v30-t3719219/page1
Just curious to find out all the band numbers my phone supports. But, After selecting one band it could not automatically switch to another.
And it has made the situation worse when i tried to do a factory reset from the SVC menu. Now i do not have the 4G network at all. No access to internet. Factory reset from the phone settings also failed to fix the problem.
Is there anything i can do do make my phone work normally again? Do i need to flash the KDZ file to restore to my default network settings? But i seem to be unavailable Now.
What can i do, guys, please help.
I did the steps in that thread this morning and the same thing happened to me. I was able to factory reset and the issue was fixed upon first boot.
You might try resetting again to see if it'll fix it.

I have tried several times and it did not work. thanks anyway.
contacted LG service, and they are talking nonsene:
quote:
"1 - Check your current settings. This is important to retain 3G data when moving out of 4G range. You can find this under Settings > Tethering & Networks > Mobile Network > Network Mode
2 - a menu will open automatically. Click on Phone Info and scroll down to where it says Pick Prefered Network Type.
3 - Press the drop down box and select the option that adds LTE along with your old options. (pick LTE/GSM/WCDMA to turn on 4G)
4 - your network will reconnect and you should now see a 4G icon appear in the top bar.
With android 5.0 you will find that 4G now appears correctly in the "preferred network mode" under Settings > Tethering & Networks > Mobile Network > Network Mode.
If by any chance that this did not work, then try this:
First go to the app *easy battery saver* then instead of super mode, Go back to *normal mode *. It will kick you back to your normal settings. If by any chance it doesn't work try this:
This method however is to fix and reset 4g in general, so it should work;
First of all download an app called "any cut" free from market. Then after it downloads and installs, go home screen and create a shortcut >then select > activities > and then select the "any cut" app. After that it'll send you to the app and from there you have to press on "activities" option and Scroll down until you see "LTE configuration" (its mostly the first one that starts with LTE). Then as you select that it will have created a shortcut action on the home screen. You then go to home screen and look for the shortcut you have created, it'll be called *lte configuration*. Open it and then press on setting initialization. Now, it will reset your lte settings and the phone will reboot. After that you should be able to be running 4g nice and clean.
If in case these didn't fix the issue, please contact your carrier. Typically frequencies and bands problems are network related. "

Your last option would be a restore through lg bridge. Its just going to reset everything back to normal. I accidentally did the same thing on my h932 and had to reset it. In my case LG bridge flashed the same software version but since the us998 is getting the 10c update it will update you to that version.
