What are the requirements to port it to our phone? And if we meet those whom would we ask to get it ported? I would do it but my knowledge only goes as far as unlocking, rooting, and flashing roms. Sorry if this has been answered already.

To have an 'official' rom, I would assume someone in their team would need to own a DNA.
But once cm 10.1 gets a little bit farther in development people will start building/porting all sorts of stick based roms, including pa

I believe we need the IRL for any stock based roms. Its why we are stuck on sense roms for the moment.

You do realize there's a cm 10.1 rom that's almost fully functional now. Only things not working are camera and like 1 or 2 things with bluetooth.

What's an IRL?
Do you mean RIL?
Because that's the Radio Interface Layer. And if that's what you are referring to then it's been pretty much cracked. You should probably take a look into the Original Development forum.

I'm actually looking forward to efforts to build straight AOSP for the DNA, since Paranoid Android on Nexus devices actually moved from a CM base to a straight AOSP base. Also, one of my favorite Galaxy Nexus ROMs, BAMF Paradigm, is based on straight AOSP (though I prefer the extensive feature set of AOKP on my Nexus 7 tablet).

I didn't know they were aosp based now. I would love pa on this phone. I always end up coming back to it on my n7. For some reason I can't use aokp based ROMs because the keyboard always crashes but aokp would be badass on our phone too.
Perhaps someone could port some of the aosp/cm based ROMs from the one over to the DNA.

Hello everybody.
Sorry in advance, I suppose that this question should be a sort of XDA trending topic during these days. However after a little search, I didn't find anything similar on the matter. Hence I'm opening a new thread. Feel free to close it if necessary
I suppose that somebody is already working on a "Google Edition" of i9300. A vanilla AOSP. Would it be so different from a classic CyanogenMod or AOKP?
Thank you for your answers.
Peace.
Will just look like the nexus but with a better camera and new bootanimation

No it is not possible to directly port it as the Google Ed. phone runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600. The i9300's sorry excuse of an SoC is Exynos 4.

What's so bad with Exynos? When this device came out it was a beast compared any other on the market. So far we have a well established base of development and mods.
There is nothing wrong with Our SOC other than its now older than the newer devices.

Yes, it's your opinion and you're entitled to one, but you're wrong when you say that there's nothing wrong with Exynos 4. Though I bet no SoC is per definition "perfect".

Not as fast as it could be if the sources for the Exynos based processors were available.
To answer OPs question technically it is possible but it will require a lot of time and effort ..not to mention a lot of skill as well...the reason being both are quite different phones with different SoCs ..it would be somewhat easier to do it from the AOSP source code but as everyone already knows without documentation from Samsung that is again a difficult prospect ...none of the devs want to invest time in a project which they already know will be a a failure ...this is not about which is better TW or pure Google experience but about having a choice.

My understanding is that Android Development is modification of TouchWiz based ROMs and Original is anything that wouldn't fall under that category such as AOSP ROMs, custom Kernels, etc.

This is how I see it as well. I was confused for quite some time until I finally realized the difference
You guys aren't getting it. The regular development isn't just for touchwiz ROMs. It's also for ports or additional work to roms that the dev didn't do THE ORIGINAL work to.
If it's not new or ground breaking or an original piece of work it doesn't belong in original.

No, the developer only section is for developers only.
To be fair though, only people actively developing should be making new threads in either of the development sections.
In the future, will it be possible to extract Nexus5 rom/updates and apply them directly to G2 ?
Just asking, because G2 and Nexus are sharing a lot of same hardware.
It'll probably be easier to port Nexus5 rom, instead of having a lot of work on a common 10.2CM ?

Its fairly easy to port ROMS from Nexus 5. However reading log cats is the main thing here. Thankfully most people can't read log cats so it stops the noobs flood the place with terrible ports. To answer your question yes it can.

We don't know availability of Nexus5 (already out of stock), so G2 could be a great alternative to Nexus5 (with better battery lol)

there is a guy with a video on youtube that says he has files to download to the g2 to make it a virtual nexus 5. he demos it and says the files are in the description but I did not see them there. He says no root is required and it does look like a nexus 5, but I don't know if it is kitkat or not. it also looked like he was getting some FCs too.

Yea the Optimus G Pro already received 4.4 based off the N4. I'm suprised we haven't got 4.4 based off the N5 yet. Perhaps the devs are still getting comfortable with the new hardware.
Real good to know about the N5/G2 ease of porting. I'm particularly curious about the kernels and how similar they are to one another. Moving forward with newer versions of Android, the kernels are the important thing.
I'm hoping it'll be easier to port roms over. The only concern I have is whether or not they'd work with the VZW version. Not sure if you could use the RIL from the G2 or a new file from scratch would have to be made to be able to get working data.

of course it's possible to port franco kernel to the g2. the kernel sources are released from lg afaik.
but someone has to do it which is really bad with that many different device configurations.
