Hi there, I read a bunch of topics over the net on tethering on Android 4.4, but none of those fixes work for me.
I'm on a C6833, stock and rooted, but that's not the point, because I use that as my principal phone: what I use as tethering modem is my Xperia E1, which worked fine on 4.3, but now refuses to work on 4.4.
I know, I could root it and be done with it, but is it the real solution?
Every time I start the hotspot, the Ultra connects to it, but Chrome results always in the same error: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET.
Does anyone know how to make it work like it used to?

I am currently living in a dorm and my school does not provide internet access. I have been using my Razr Maxx (I am rooted and on the latest ota jellybean update) for internet since September. I have been using the stock Verizon hotspot app with my unlimited data plan.
I have tried many different settings and apps but it is very rare for me to keep a stable connection longer than one hour. What typically happens is that all devices stay connected to the network but non of them have internet access. When I look at the app the device names sometimes change to "unknown". I have been researching for a while and have found nothing helpful. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I know that WiFi tethering is not intended for such heavy use, but it is almost finals and I want to have a stable connection to get my work done.
Does anyone have any tips or ideas for making the best out of WiFi tethering features on the Razr MaxX?
What's up, man? I am bumping because I am having similar problems. I read that Verizon has installed some kind of way to prevent the Wifi Tethering apps with the new JB OTA update. I manually upgraded to JB with mattgroff's technique and immediately rooted.
FoxFi now does not work but Wifi Tether is just really unreliable now. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it quits working in a manner similar to yours about five minutes after reboot.
I was having similar problems I have always used WiFi tether for root users and suddenly had problems after the update well I found out that having multiple tether apps was the issue. If your stock tether works don't download any other apps, even from the play store.

I was under the impression (although I could be mistaken) that everything from wifi tether apps on the play store to the stock Verizon hotspot app doethe same thing with a few variations. I tried using PDAnet/FOXfi and all the symptoms seemed to be the same. It seems like an issue with the phone itself more than the apps that control this feature. But again, I've been wrong before.

Does it really make a difference? If so, why?
Not really sure how it does, just know that I was having similar issues and I uninstalled all other WiFi tether apps and it worked. Also I've read that if you boot into S.S. you can try wiping cache and dalvik and flash the ROM again. (Gapps if needed by the way). I've done that for any type of WiFi problems add well.
Hi people,
I recently upgraded my SXP from rooted ICS 6.1.1.B.1.75 to Pre-rooted JB 6.2.A.0.400 ( found thanks to this thread ).
Everything went well, and the new version seemed to work, until i realized that the Wifi Hotspot function isn't working anymore (i used it everyday on ICS).
Also, tethering via Bluetooth doesn't seem to work.
My SXP wifi network is seen and I can connect onto it, but then nothing happens and there's no way to use the phone's data connection from a remote device.
I installed the 'WiFi Tether' app from Google play to give it a try, and the same thing happens.
However, this app gives me more detail and i can see what steps precisely block the connection, here is a screen of the error log : http://i.imgur.com/5ZhAAoF.png
Hopefully this'll help.
Has anyone run into the same issue? Can anyone confirm that the Portable Hotspot function still works on JB for Xperia P ?
It'd be kind of a shame to have to roll-back to ICS because of this....
Many thanks in advance for your help!

I've recently rooted my xperia play and found my wi-fi hotspot doesn't work. I've downloaded wi-fi tether apps but it doesn't seem to be connecting to the internet, it reads my connection but no access to internet.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
Thanks in advance
I have a droidX with liquid ICS 1.62,
android version 4.0.4,
and kernel version 2.6.32.9-g34b306d
i have tried every possible method i have found to get wifi tethering working, its to give my nexus 7 wifi on the train
I'm able to tether with bluetooth, but because there's no wifi connection various apps dont "see" the internet and ignore it.
so i need wifi tethering
BUT IT WONT FREAKIN WORK. :crying::crying:
more specifically, no matter what i try, nothing can see the wifi tethering signal of my phone, its as if nothing is there at all.
it'd tried; Foxfi, PDAnet, wifi tether for root users, barnacle tether...
i'm completely at witts end here, ask me any question you need and i'll answer in as much detail as needed
anyone? at all?
if you need any more information, i can provide it
guess not
i'll probably have to drop back down to CM7, it looks like every single ics or jb rom for the droidx has this dumb issue. thanks verizon
wait, nevermind, got it working again somehow
after flashing back to stock liquidICS 1.62 i found it working again
i tried to underclock the phone so i could leave it in my pocket running wifi all day, but apparently under OR overclocking the phone AT ALL breaks tethering, dont ask me how or why.
if you change the clock speed at all, you need to reboot before using tether
Hey there,
as the title says: I have here this nice Xperia Tablet Z and a rooted (CM 10.2) Samsung Galaxy S2. I activate Bluetooth on both devices and tell my Galaxy S2 to share the internet connection by activating the Bluetooth-Tethering in the settings. Next step is, that I go to the Xperia Bluetooth-Settings for this particular Bluetooth-Pairing and activate "use Bluetooth for internet access".
So far, so easy. The point is: It is not working. The Xperia is not using the UMTS-Connection of my Samsung. Somewhere in the www I read about the fact, that you only can use a Sony Smartphone and this special Sony-App for sharing the internet connection between two devices.
Thats annoying. So, does anyone know, if there is a way to use my None-Sony-Smartphone to access the internet from my Xperia Tablet Z? Or do i need to root my Tablet and install a custom ROM / firmware?
Thanks a lot in advance!
cheers
easy tether worked for me
I have an s4 paired with xperia z tablet 311 and easy tether worked almost straight away. Hope it helps.

thanks for that... then its maybe a problem with my s2 and the custom rom from cyanogen. Guess i should try it with another phone...
Ok somewhat an obscure issue, and the fix that lets a VPN work over tether does not seem to fix it.
I first encountered this on I think 4.3 or 4.2 with my Galaxy Nexus prime. I would use a wifi hotspot, and all connections work fine except for when connecting my playstation Vita. It would say it could not login. So I do a connection test and everything is okay except the attempt to sign into playstation network.
I found maybe 2 other people with the same problem on different devices. I now own a rooted fire phone on 4.6.1. It too has this same problem. And it's believed by some that after 2.1 or 2.2 all native versions of wifi hotspot have this issue. I've tried treve mod, the vpn fix, and a handful of wifi hotspot apps with no luck. I don't know if these apps work as I could not establish even a normal connection through them.
I believe what I need is a kitkat compatible wifi app that doesn't rely on the native hotspot, or some way to modify it if anyone knows what's causing the blockage.
edit: To solve it on my old phone, I actually had to downgrade android to jellybean. I can't do that with this phone though.
Thanks for any help with this.
