Virgin mobile just released the desire 816 for us use after its stint as a European exclusive. That being said, it's a hell of a device. You can look online for specs and what not. It's priced at 299$ the desire 601 is priced at $249.99 at the moment. It's incredibly desirable for me. ? Just wondering if anyone else will make the switch and if not, why.
It says limit 2 phones per customer

If root and s-off r available and its cheaper ill probably switch
I'd like too but after spending $200 plus on this I can't afford new phone yet.
Wow I can't help but look at that beast and want one now. To say the specs are beefed over ours is an understatement. Was reading about it on gsmarena and its hard to imagine they still refer to it as a midrange phone. 1.6 quadcore with 1.5gb of ram. Still has front speakers, 13mp back camera (megapixels is overhyped camera terminology) but with 1080p video and 5mp front also with 1080p recording!! I might start saving and I do have a bday in November.

Mines in October lol. Yeah money is my issue at the point. As far as I know they have root and s-off because I've seen some custom roms for it. It's definitely border line high end. Good to know I'm not the only person excited about this.
Even better that the phone has already been out.
Sent from my cdma Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 601 zara_cl
Yeah exactly. If you look to it's xda forum, it's had quite a bit of development. Whether their methods for root and what not still work for the American variant is still a good question.
You can get it on eBay new for $219 at the moment. I'm so tempted. I've been waiting for a large phone for years with virgin mobile. 5.5" is definitely large. Although the specs are good the quad core is actually a lower end arm a7 chip rather than Krait cores..

Wow, 219 is a fantastic price. Its 1 inch bigger than our phone. I wonder what the CPU speed is compared to ours and if development will ever take off for it unlike ours.

I don't like the look of the development section there. Our phone seems to have more going for it. The one rom seems to be mostly for the Chinese dual-sim version. There are some issues for the single similar version of the rom.
Edit: Well if I can sell my 601 for around 80-100 dollars on Craigslist I'm gonna get it. $200 is just too good to pass up.

Well, now that minewhoooper has sold his CL (our version of the zara.) We will be seeing very little to no development now. Which pretty much sells me on switching to the 816.

That's true. But at this point, the potential for that phone is more interesting to me than sticking with just the one Rom and kernel we have.

I was thinking the same thing. I spent some time looking through those threads and saw no mention of s-off. In fact people were having issues just getting busybox and Xposed framework working properly. Getting s-off on this phone was hard enough for me. As much as I'd like that phone I'm really skeptical at this point. I think I will wait and see what happens now that its been released for VM as momentum starts to build with an influx of more users.
It would be nice if VM gave us a phone that other US networks had. When I had my Evo V there were a minimum of 10 roms being updated regularly.

Yes u flash xposed framework but i think its risky. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53507537 id rather get s-off
I have the 816 on VM switched from the Boost S5 and I'm pretty happy with the phone. I wish I could get a ROM like android revolution HD. Mike1986 is one badass dev. Love his work.

The htc page doesn't say anything about GSM. It USED to, but it was obviously a mistype, considering it was changed to WCDMA 1-2 hours later. And now the specs page is completely gone.

In all probability,HTC PYramid will be the GSM version of HTC Evo 3d....but really this phone deserves a GSM version,i am due for a new android{using N1 for over a year now} in May.
LG Optimus 2X & SGS 2 are already launching here{India} next month,i hope this one gets a GSM version.
So will there be after all a gsm version i know that htc said it wont but then on gsm arena they said tha htc france officialy anouced the gsm version so any news on that, i myself have a hd2 and love the bulid quality, support by hackers (like the DFT and etc) camera, and etc, only thing i hate is the speaker but its not a big problem this phone was great and now its getting old and for my next phone i wanted a htc and the evo 3d is perfect for me but i must know wich im going to by if evo 3d will not be availible and the subbstition for the evo 3d is sammy Galaxy s2

I'm not waiting that long. I'll be getting a phone in May or June although I'd rather get one now.
The GSS2 is an option for me and if it had a notification LED and four buttons instead of three it would be the one for sure.
As it is I'll be waiting to see which one is locked down. If the Sensation is locked down like the HTC Incredible then I will look again at the SGS2 and the LG Optimus 3D and the LG Optimus 2X. So far they don't even have root on the Incredible S and developer support seems to be flagging.
Evo 3D gsm = fail. I even put money aside for this thing! Down here we have no CDMA network so my N1 stays put.
SGS2 not a big enough step up for me. I actually feel sad........for a phone

I'm wondering the same thing. I think probably we'll have to wait for them to show up on eBay. I'm guessing maybe after Christmas people will have phones that they don't want for some reason. Yeah, that basically it. I don't like the carrier branding. I guess I'm just particular that way.
And I don't mind waiting a month or two, until they show up on eBay. The price will probably come down some. And hopefully by then there will be a version of Cyanogen available, so I don't have to spend one minute with Sense (yuck). Also in the mean time, I may still decide to get a Nexus 4. I'm still in a wait and see mode, to see how people's experiences with the glass back go.
Although I've checked out both phones in the store and, for me, the One X+ feels much better in the hand as well as seeming more high quality. (There's also the extra storage in the One X+, the capacitive buttons, a better camera, and a little bit better of a screen--all features I like.)

hi i was wondering if you know why my htc one x plus shows as evare_ul on my computer model number and phone name this is a telus phone unlocked and on the bell network.
thanks,
I think all phones have an internal code name used by the company that designed it. I believe they use this name during the design process, before they've figured out the commercial name they'll use for marketing purposes. I'm guessing EVARE_UL is HTC's code name for the AT&T/Telus version of the One X+. Probably when you plug your phone into your computer at some low (file structure?) level the phone identifies itself to the computer by this name.

According to GLBenchmark the code name for the LTE version (AT&T/Telus) of the HTC One X+ is evitareul, which Pocket Now suggests is probably supposed to be read as Evitare UL.

http://pocketnow.com/2012/07/12/htc...roid-shows-in-benchmarks-new-one-series-model
I think one can imagine how in the file system evitareul or Evitare UL might get abbreviated to evare_ul as in dweenz initial post about this.
I'm guess the L in "UL" stands for LTE. Don't know about the U.

Is there a significant software difference or what?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
The software and hardware is 100% identical except for different radios. Which I think is the reason for the separation.
I think you misunderstood .. They normally separate the forums when there is a significant hardware difference and flashing wrong versions rom could brick your device. AT&T one x and international one x is a great example. AT&T was Qualcomm and international was Tegra. Tegra roms brick Qualcomm phones... Separate forums needed!
I think they just jumped the gun on this split...probably combine them once everything is verified interchangeable. At lleast I would hope they would.
Agree. Best to keep them separate for now, but it looks like they can be combined due to the same models. Best to be sure tho.

All the One devices that are GSM/LTE are M7_UL. All 3G only One devices are M7_U. Then you have Sprint and Verizon off in their own little world or something.

Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
They should combine the HTC One forums. Hardware is totally 100% identical even for the radios chips. Except of the Asian version which they didn't even seperate at all. There are alot of other phones on the request thread that deserves a spot than this bloated AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint & International version of HTC One forums which is not even necessary at all. This would just reduce the chances of questions from other users being answered.
I believe this is the same hardware and when ever yall get s-off and supercid then they should combine the forums.
This is kinda like mt tmobile htc sensaton. Witch in that point with super cid all htc sensations were the same. And we didnt had to worry about flashing another sensation rom from international. but the thread is only one thread for all htc sensation in the world. There is no tmobile, canadan's,international or the one with beats they all were the same

The thing is, our device was kind of niche one, because the sales were not that great. And I don't think HTC is in a position where it would make sense (financially) to invest in creating an update for our phone.
Plus, there's the problem of loyalty to HTC One X customers. The HTC One X is almost the same device, so updating the One X+ would mean they have to update the One X as well. In my opinion, you can separate the HOX from the HOX+, and viceversa. If one gets an update, so does the other. If not, then none of them do.

Well I too consider myself to be brand loyal, but only because of the build quality of the phones. I've been f****d before by HTC, with the Desire Z. It too was left behind before its time.
It's frustrating. I know there are arguments that we 'shouldn't' expect major software upgrades once we've bought a phone, but I think with the money we spend on phones, you should expect some form of upkeep for a while.
Sorry to hear you've been messed about before! If it happens here, I reckon I'll jump to Samsung or Sony.
