Lets post a photo of the case we bought for this lovely device which always last 3 days of battery life, I haven't bought on but I bought a tempered glass still waiting for it, I am tempered glass believer saved my iPhone 5s twice, first one hit a rock dead on the screen when it fell off the roof of my Vensa, tempered glass spider crack, when I removed it iPhone 5s is still flawless, next one same thing. Can't wait for it to arrived for my Huawei Ascend Mate 2.
FYI if you are going to buy a new HAM2 on amazon, add the reverse charger and it will add the HAM2 unit then on the final step during checkout the reverse charger will be free. I know you get a sim card and a NET 10 $50 unlimited all for a month if you buy it from gethuawei but I like amazon's easy 30days return policy and 2 days prime shipping.
Ok lets go back to posting your case thanks
I actually pre-ordered it directly from huawei and got a free case with it as well. I'll post a picture later when I get the chance.
Apparently I can't post direct links yet

A long time ago....I ordered it the day before it was released in the US. I think only people who pre-ordered got all of the goodies for free.
EDIT: I ordered it June 18th, and it came a few days after the 4th of July.
Here's a shot of my Power Pak 5 catching some rays by the pool. Love using this to keep my Huawei Bluetooth mini boom box powered up on the weekends for streaming music.
Also, check out GetHuawei.com now through Aug. 18th to get 40% off all accessories!! Can't beat it! :good:

I also preordered from gethuawei and received the case, net10 card, and reverse cable
I got this one in black. It's got some dotted honeycomb pattern on the back, so there's a tiny bit of grip. I have the white HAM2 so I don't have the grippy back cover.
Never ever dropped my phone; I may look into this screen protector.
I bought this one, it has a small window to show clock and weather. You can also answer phone without needing to open the flip case. It's similar to the factory one, but better because it has a magnetic lock so that the case will not open by itself.

I am waiting patiently for my phone, which should arrive next week. I like belt loop cases to carry my phone but as phone sizes keep creeping up, it can be difficult to accomodate your phone inside a protective case. I ordered a belt loop case that is supposed to accommodate the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 in an otterbox case. I'm not sure whether phones shipping on Amazon are still shipping with cases since I don't think you get a free case anymore from the Huawei site. If I get the Huawei case, I'll try it. Otherwise, I may go with a Trident case. Once I get the phone and belt loop case, I'll post pictures and let you know if it's got enough room to really accomodate the phone in a case.
My case doesn't do that when I fold it back. Works great for me. Maybe you have defective case.
I've had a Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G LTE since June. White , ordered from GetHuawei.com website. I received the free flip case (not so good) and reverse charge cord. I also should have received a free net10 sim card kit but it was never sent to me.
After about 3 days with the phone , the screen broke underneath the Gorrilla Glass. The phone was not dropped or abused. The outside glass was in perfect shape but the inside display was shattered. I sent it back and it was fixed under warranty. (Actually replaced - New phone with different IMEI number)
I believe there may be an issue with how the phone is designed compared to other large touchscreen devices. When you touch on the screen in a normal way you can see the LCD "rippling" from the pressure. BE CAREFUL! This is not what happens with other phones and tablets.
Remember , my glass didn't' break - the screen underneath did.
Anyway bought a Trident Cyclops case from Amazon and it's awesome so far...
I like the Cyclops, but the flip case scratched the stock screen protector!

Good to know you like the Cyclops. My phone should arrive next week and if I don't get the standard case with the phone I may order the Cyclops next week (I'll probably order the Cyclops anyway). If you have a chance, would you mind posting a photo of your phone in this case. TIA.
I've had my Mate 2 since early May, I ordered one on aliexpress since I had nearly $200 in coupon codes from a vendor that messed up from a motherboard sale. I have the MT2-L05 where the ones sold in North America are MT2-L03 (if I'm not mistaken). I originally got the nillkin super frosted shield case and the anti explosion glass screen protector. Everything was well until about a month in I dropped the phone face down on aggregate. The case did very little to protect the phone, there were a few chips on the screen protector, and a chip to the silver bezel surrounding the screen/phone. After a few days use some small cracks appeared on the screen protector and eventually across the whole width of the screen protector. I ordered another nillkin tempered glass protector and the Trident case. Popped out the stock screen protector from the Trident and used it with the nillkin one. Looks great and I love the feel of the tempered glass. Pretty sure the screen protector saved my brand new phone so I'm quite happy that I got it.

Can you post a photo of your cyclops with the screen protector and the damage bezel pls. I was thinking about that set-up, removing Cyclops built-in screen protector and placing a tempered glass. Please hope you don't mind posting.

Don't know if I'll be able to get a pic of the damage for you, I put the case on once to test fit it with the tempered glass. I forgot to put my SD card back in and the case was nearly impossible to remove. I'll get some pics of the case once I get a chance.
Trident Cyclops Case - a few pics
The Cyclops case is really difficult to remove once it's on. One other problem I encountered was lint or dust getting between the screen protector and screen.
Maybe I just have really dusty pockets. But I found that the Trident Cyclops just wasn't for me.
It's pretty bulky on an already large device. But it does seem very protective.

I agree that dust does get inside the Cyclops case. I believe it gets in through the cutout for the ear speaker. It is worth the hassle for me though since it has protected my phone from a few 5 foot drops already.

I have a question for all of you who are using shields for our device, from your experience which one is the best?
I mean the most scratch resistant but whitout affecting the sensibility of the touch screen.
I have these 3 models in mind:
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-touch-pro-2-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php - Zagg's invisible shield which is the most expensive
http://www.bodyguardz.com/content/accessories/26---2249.htm - Bodyguardz which is the same price as Zagg's but offers 2 sets
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/att-ti...nvisible-shields-screen-protectors-skins.html - the cheapest one
May help
I am sorry but I personally have no experience with Bodyguardz what-so-ever. I have used an invisible shield on an iPhone, but it was a very short time. However, I have a GadgetShieldz installed on my Tilt 2 and had one on two of my Fuze's. I think for the price the GadgetShieldz has been a great investment, but do be warned with any of these the screen (I imagine the other two are like this) will have a "drag". With the stock screen protect your finger fluidly slides around. With the GadgetShieldz I do tend to apply more pressure because my skin drags with the surface of the shield, but my screen is still very responsive and works just as it did without. I use the Swype keyboard for my input method and once I adjust to the shield it was like normal. Using the stylus is a bit harder because you cannot simply drag it, but if you learn the right amount of pressure needed this is not an issue.
The back is still kind of slick but better than stock, and I feel less worried now setting my phone down not so scared that it will scratch up that shiny back, ya know!
At 6.99 I recommend the product! There was a 15% off code on my thread also.
Edit: Please check this thread there is a 15% and 20% code posted! Enjoy!
I know about the discount, I posted the 20% one
But the main problem is that is only made for carriers branded phones and not for the unbranded european T7373 which I have
Zagg had 50% off EVERYTHING about a week ago, but I decided I don't need the shield since it's just FRONT & BACK.
So what more did you wanted if full body coverage is not enough? If you check the photo you'll see that on the back shield it has also side protection, at least that's what I understand http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-touch-pro-2-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
I saw that promotion on Zagg but from what I read the invisible shield somehow makes the tocuh screen harder to use, it tends to be more rubberish
I have not tried Bodyguardz either but I've tried Invisiblesheild on many of my phones and currently have the Gadgetshieldz on my Tilt 2. At the moment I have the Invisiblesheild on my Fuze. I was just holding both phones and trying to feel the difference between the two. To be quite honest the only difference I've noticed is the the Invisiblesheild is a little more "grippy" than the Gadgetshieldz. Other than that there is not much of a difference.
The Gadgetsheildz was less than $6 (with shipping) while the Invisiblesheild was almost $30. I would go with a couple of Gadgetshieldz.

No, as a whole the Invisiblesheild is more grippy. Front, back, sides, all.
Here are some pics of my Tilt2 with the Gagdetsheildz and my Fuze with Invisiblesheild.

Don't get the Invisiblesheild!
I also purchased the Invisiblesheild for the Tilt2 as well, which came in yesterday. I noticed that the Invisiblesheild DOES NOT provide protection for the front sides. The Gadgetsheildz does. This is pathetic. It costs almost 5 times as much and it doesn't cover some of the most easily damaged areas? Eff that!
Seriously, do yourself a favor and go with the gadgetsheldz, I'm going to complain to Invisiblesheilds.
Best of both worlds
I have found the option that is working best for me
I am using phantom skinz for full body and reuseable screen protector for the screen.
I was planning to put phantom skinz on the screen as well, but once i applied it on the back cover i didn't want to have the draggy feeling on the screen so i went with stock screen protector. I also got reusable PET screen protectors like the Boxwave ones for smooth screen feel.
The other think that i was worried about phantom skinz(and invisible shields, bodyguradz etc) is removing it from the delicate resistive tp2 screen.
So for me phantom skin for body + PET screen protector for screen works out to be perfect.
Hope this helps
Thanks deeken for the pictures, it looks really nice with the GadgetShieldz, I'm definetly going to buy 2 of these in case I don't get it wright from the first attempt, but that would still be chaper than anything else, also using the 20% coupon.
The only problem is they release a shield for the standard model which I have
I declare myself satisfied and convinced with GadgetShieldz.
Zagg
Been using zag product from every new device i buy. 3 Reason why
1)life time warranty
2)The case can take a beating and never show that it been threw a lot. had my zagg shield on since i bought my device back in October and people alway say to me
"you should get a case for this phone before it get scratches up did you just get it?"(They cant notice the protective plastic).
3)It's worth the money, buying cheap plastic protective for your phone over and over again going to add up to the price of 1 zagg case.
I see alot of people saying that the zagg do not cover your entire phone. All i have to say is what are you talking about??

It does provide protection for the front side. My whole T-mobile touch pro 2 cover with the shield. I guess u can't see the cut out that they made when u receive it or you probably just purchase the back protection not the the full protection.

There is NO SIDE PROTECTION for the AT&T Tilt 2. I have this thing in my hand and I can tell you for a fact that they skimped out for the Tilt 2. The cutout is only 3 pieces. One for the front and 2 for the back. Nothing for the sides. I called them on Thursday and complained about this. They customer service rep said he will send an email to the developers to see why they neglected to provide coverage for the sides.
As I stated in my earlier posts I have been using Invisiblesheilds for several of my devices. They are expensive and not worth the money in my opinion. As far as lifetime warranty, you could get 3 gadgetsheildz (which is almost 1/2 the price of one Invisiblesheild) which should last you the life of the phone.
there is no side protection for the verizon touch pro2 either. zagg stated that some people complained about issues removing it when it covered the sides or something like that? so they cut off the surround protection on a lot of the american versions (if not all of them)
i got the bestskinsever.com shield for my sprint touch pro 2 and here are my comments:
- the back cover shield is very nicely done. it covers it edge to edge and has cutouts for all mic holes and the big section of speaker holes in the middle.
- the front pieces are much more problematic and i'm not sure what they were thinking.
the front comes in four pieces plus the screen. I didn't use the screen part so can't comment on that.
the top piece (above the screen) look like it is cut to cover the front surface of the top frame since it is shaped to fit exactly around the curve of the screen. however, it is just a bit longer than necessary so they hang like 1mm over the edge if you put it right up against the edge of the screen. this overhang is too little to stay in place if you bend it down onto the side. i ended up trying a few different positions and ended up shifting it down further onto the side, just above the power button (there is no cutout for the button), but this leaves a gap between the screen and the shield on the front and most of the top is left uncovered except for the sliver between the button and the edge.
the bottom piece has similar problems. you can tell that they only want you to have a slight 2mm overhang over the edge because there is a cutout for the mic right there which would not reach the mic if you placed it flush with the screen. again, there is an exposed gap between the screen and shield and also of the bottom side of the phone.
there are two long, narrow rectangular pieces for the sides. again, they are not wide enough to fully cover the side frame area. if put flush to the screen, they leave a lot of side exposed. i ended up putting it somewhat in the middle. i also had problems positioning them to fit properly between the top and bottom pieces because they are too narrow to stay down when using water. i had to do them over and over and ended up trimming the ends a bit with scissors, but still ended up with some gaps between the top and bottom.
there is really no protection on the corners of the phone on the front side, which is really the most critical for protecting against drops. the tiny bit of overhang on the front pieces are too small to stay down when using the soap and water application method so i had to peel them and start over several times using no water, so they are already not sticking well and are coming off in the corners. the multiple pieces that are hard to position exactly flush with each other and the fact that they do not fit to the edges of the front seams add many more "edges" where there should be none and this really ruins the smooth tactile feel of the phone.
so, i like the back but the design of the front pieces is bad. I'll be providing feedback to them and hopefully they can revise their design.
I haven't tried the others, but am fairly happy with the BodyGuardz. The fit on the Tilt2 is excellent. I recently removed the BodyGuardz screen protector and put on a non-glare screen protector from BoxWave. I didn't find the "rubbery" feel of the BodyGuardz was a problem at all for using the touch screen, I just wanted a less glossy screen.
After two months, the side pieces (that cover the chrome bezel on my Tilt2) are starting to come loose at the corners, and I trim them a little bit as they do so. It's probably due to carrying the phone in my pocket most of the time. I'd like to get a Seidio spring clip holster, but it looks like the one they're currently selling is for the CDMA Rhodiums.
I still have the second set of BodyGuardz protectors, I'll probably wait until I find a good holster and then put them on.

Before I begin...
Otterbox is renowned for their premiere armor-like phone cases. I have owned many phones and two of which I put Otterbox phone cases on. Outside of Otterbox cases, I have tried countless cases at a variety of prices and quality. Some cases are pretty good, but none have the same appeal, protection, and reputation that Otterbox does. Upon unboxing the Otterbox commuter case, I discovered both international and US versions of the phone screen protectors. And, in the photos I have uploaded, you'll see that I actually have the international Note screen protector instead of the US version. I'll explain later...
Both Otterbox cases I have owned (Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy Note) are very similar to each other. Even though my Atrix had a Defender case and the Note now has the Commuter case, both actually give the same feeling of protectiveness, look, and feel. When I first put the Defender case on my Atrix, I immediately knew that Otterbox will be the case for all my phones in the future. Otterbox makes a plethora of cases for many makes and models of cellular phones, so I knew that we would eventually get these bad boys. I received mine yesterday and immediately ditched my previous case for the only case my Note will have protect it again.
Also... In my opinion, Otterbox cases speak for themselves and don't need actual reviews, just someone saying, "Go buy it now. You won't regret it."
The Look...
One word to describe this case would be: Armor. The way this case looks with the polygonal insets to connect the soft silicon to the hard shell casing gives it a great look. There are slotted cross dashes on the back of the case with Otterbox's logo near the bottom. The classic sloped front fit around the screen is also present with this Otterbox case. Everything about this case is sleek, stylish, and protective. Great looking case.
Defects? What defects... There were no defects present on this case, nor were there on my first Otterbox case. I expect this type of quality from Otterbox. If anyone has experienced defects with their Otterbox case, please comment and give some insight on the customer service portion of the Otterbox company.
The Fit...
Putting this case on the phone was more trouble than I thought it would be, but I welcomed it, since every other case I had up to now had yet to give me the right fit I was looking for. After about 30 seconds of initial fitting, the case is on and the fit is amazing. The tightness of the fitting of this case is great. It gives a great secure feeling to the phone that no other case has provided.
The power buttons and volume buttons are covered by solid elevated silicone, which provides just enough resistance to where it wont accidentally be activated by walking or bumping into things from within the pocket of your pants. The 3.5mm and phone charger inputs are covered by silicone flaps that are inset into the case. Both inputs are large enough to provide the physical connections with the cords without being obstructed by the case. The spen opening is generous and allows for easy removal. The speaker has an opening through the case as well.
The protection...
Apart from the protection that the case itself provides, Otterbox provides a screen protector (for both versions of the note) as well. Pretty straight forward screen protector, two films surrounding the outer and inner surfaces of the protector. It comes with a small microfiber wiping cloth and the squeegee for those pesky air bubbles. I started with the US version of the screen protectors (duh) but for some reason, i got dust on the protector itself and it was just a mess from the beginning, so I went ahead and put the international one on. The only difference between the two protectors is the cutout on the bottom of the international one. Looks a little odd, but it works.
Conclusion...
My overall experience with Otterbox has been great. Both cases I have owned have been of the utmost quality. No other case provides me with the look, the feel, and the protection that Otterbox has given me with their cases. I am very pleased with this case and highly recommend it to anyone.
not to point fingers.... but do you work for otterbox? Just never seen someone go through so much effort on a review as far as the layout goes, if you dont work for them i think the effort is awesome.
No I don't work for otterbox... but I may have put more effort into this than I think was needed, lol

Can you take pictures of the empty case next to the note so we can see how much bulk it adds?
How sticky is it when you pull it out of your pocket?
What is the responsiveness related to the cover and the s-pen?

Ill see what I can do about the pictures. As far as the stickiness of the case... its actually pretty smooth. Comes out of the pocket pretty easily. The spen has great responsiveness to the screen with the screen protector on. No difference as far as I can tell with the screen protector.

I had an Otterbox Commuter on my late Dell Streak and it was really good but a little bulky. And it didn't have a cradle! On my Note I have Seidio Active with a kickstand and cradle, and I should say it's more elegant and compact with same level of protection. Just my two cents...

Nice review.
When the case is on, do you find any added resistance when putting the phone in or taking it out of your pocket? Thanks.
I have been looking for a case for my note for a long time. This one looks pretty damn nice. Do you have a link on where to buy it from?

I just bought this case a few days ago. All i can say that it is a very sturdy and rugged case. I would have opt of the defender for about $15 more but they did not have it in stock so I got the commuter.
Overall a solid case. Definitely recommend

Honestly the three cents is inconsequential. It could have been a couple dollars more and I still would have gotten it simply because the seller is SpigenSGP (who also happen to make the best crystal clear screen protectors I've ever used), and they have a 100% seller rating.
Nice review. Any problems with dust particles on the silicon portion of the case when pulling the Note out of a pocket? With other cases that has been my experience and the look of the case decreases due to it.

you get some dust but for me it was on the outside of the case. I got my commuter off amazon for half price! I dont think it makes it bulky like the other Otter box case but it makes it have a good feel in the hand. without it the phones feels slippery.

There was 5 available but they all sold for $7. The seller fb was excellent as far as selling otterboxes for Samsung phones. Talked to the seller before I pulled the trigger. He said they are bought in bulk with little to no packaging. I will be doing a review in here of it's condition.

I thought these phones where supposed to have gorilla glass. I just got my phone Sunday and have been very careful not to scratch the screen. I.e., only putting it in my pocket with nothing else in it etc etc. I haven't installed a screen protector yet because i wanted to be sure i was keeping it but last night i discover a hairline scratch about an inch long right in the middle of the screen *WTF!* any body else having any scratch issues?

Any change you had any in your pocket? Just a single grain of quartz crystal (incredibly common in sand and dirt) has no problem scratching glass, even GG. If you're near sand or even have dirt on your hands, a screen protector is a must have.
Sent from my phone. Prepare for atrocious Swype typos.
Gorilla glass is very scratch resistant to some things and can be easily scratched by other things like sand. Also, there can be inferior quality gorilla glass produced at times. My Transformer Prime scratched easier then plexiglass when I first got it, and was able to get it replaced under warranty. It had hundreds of scratches on it from just using the cleaning cloth. Now after 5 months of use I still haven't been able to scratch it yet, and I am much less careful with it now.

It must have happened while i was at work but just hadn't noticed it until i looked at it at night. Oh well, I've got some ghost armour on it now and unless you look for it is not noticeable.

A buddy of mine had an S2 and he was super rough with it and never got a scratch on the screen. I have the S3 and he just got one, and so far no issues.
As other said, some things are more abrasive, I tend to have keys and a security card/clip in my pockets and swap phone in pockets back and forth and no issues so far.
I make sure there is nothing in my pocket at all. I must have had a piece of dirt or sand on my finger while i was at work.

Here's my Captivate after 22 months without a screen protector. Only a single tiny scratch on it visible from one angle, and it's recent, now that I let my toddler use my old phone all the time now I've got my S3.
Not taking chances this time, though. Got a $0.99 Skinomi (wet application) on my S3, but I don't like the feel of it or that my TPU case cause it to peel up on the edges, so I'll be replacing it with the new Spigen Curved Crystal (dry), when it's finally available at amazon.
Took some pictures of my old Captivate to try and showcase the few scratches on it (for a possible Ebay sale):

I dropped my phone three days after getting it - and got several long cracks in the screen - this NEVER happened with my EPIC 4G which I could throw around like it was brick and it wouldn't crack -scratch or whatever -
Yes - I had insurance - but I was shocked to find the TMOBILE Replacement experice for damaged phones was absolutely HORRIBLE - they didn't even have a replacement phone in stock for me - I understand it's a new phone - but they didn't even try to help - just said - tough luck - we'll let you know when we get a replacement in - When I was with Sprint that NEVER happened - break a phone and it was replaced as soon as I walked in and explained what happened
Sorry - I digress from the original thought of this thread - Gorrilla Glass - Sadly it seems to be a very weak gorrilla - GREAT PHONE - just be very careful with the glass

I was looking at those screen protectors on ebay today for $13.99.
Let me know how it works.
I saw another one that was cut right before it curves, right now I have a dry one, but the edges won't stick. So ima order the curve ones or the smaller ones.

Technically, its Gorilla Glass 2.
I dragged my keys across my GSIII screen to to show my mom that she wouldn't need a screen protector on her Galaxy Nexus (also has Gorilla Glass). No scratches here!!

FYI - I have always used the ZAGG Screen protector - and for this phone they have an HD Version which is awesome. ONce installed - you can't tell it's there - feels as smooth as glass and comes with a lifetime warrenty - they are more expensive - but in my mind - well worth the expense.

Thanks, I've tried Zaggs, but I don't like any that you need a wet application. Certain angles you see like a orange peel or lines.
At least from what I've seen on my phone and my friends. If I can see that then it bugs me.
Do you see that on yours?
I think I'm going to order these http://www.ebay.com/itm/280886599063?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

No issue or problem with my display.
I had zag on my vibrant but after a while i just didn't like the look and orange peel feeling so i uninstalled it and went with ghost armour from one of those mall kiosks. I like the feel better than the zagg but I haven't seen the HD version yet. I'll have to look into those even though I have a lifetime warranty minus a $5 charge for installation for what i have now but i really like the smooth feeling of my finger sliding directly on the glass.

@mocsab LOLOL they wouldnt replace it because YOU dropped your phone. No company would just flat out gift you another one, especially with such a sought after device

For what its worth - ZAGG has a new dry version that doesn't require water - they go on easily and get the same lifetime guarantee - sounds like I am selling Zagg - don't mean to - but I do like the quality they offer. At the end of the day - they all are not that different from each other - get one you like - I am sure it will be fine.

Gorilla Glass 2... More resistant to scratching, but easier to shatter. So, I'm not sure the logic behind this decision with Samsung. It seems that people have more problems with screen shattering than scratching.
But, I say with Gorilla Glass, ditch the screen protectors and snatch up cases to help prevent shattering.
I've been doing some digging around. So far there are a lot of holster cases and phone carrying cases out there but I am more of a minimalist so I have kept searching. In the past 24 hours, I did see the following cases which caught my eye:
Black Case

Clear Frosted Cased
I like the black case overall, but the fact that the Clear Frosted case has 'Idol' engraved on it gives it extra appeal. Personally I'm hoping that a bumper is released soon so that I can show off the fancy back to the Idol 3
I usually go naked nowadays, but I was eyeing the official Alcatel clear shell. Looks pretty thin, and only $12.

Yeah I liked that one a lot. I hope that they release some more pics of it closer to the release just to be sure.
I have gone without a case here and there but a few reviewers have mentioned the phone can feel slippery at times and so I don't want to risk it.
Going naked with this one. That's the great thing about it being cheap! I did tweet Slick Wraps if they had any plans about supporting this phone. They said they will see how popular it is and they will decide. Imagine black leather on the back of this!
Ever since I got into less expensive unlocked phones I don't use cases much. I get to enjoy the phones as they were meant to be. I have been using a HUAWEI Ascend Mate 2, ZTE ZMAX, and LG L90, all without cases or screen protectors.

I do think that screen protectors are the biggest scam unless you buy a phone with the intention of reselling it every time.

Seriously? When I buy a used phone, the condition of the screen is the single biggest factor to me! Not to mention that some devices feel better to the finger with a tempered glass protector installed. It seems a very logical investment in $5-$10 to get a good screen protector right away.
---------- Post added at 05:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:46 PM ----------
To your original question, I'm going to at least put on a cheap TPU case on the new Idol 3 (if indeed I end up keeping it). Since it's slippery and already thin, a slim case will be a helpful, unobtrusive addition. But there's not much out there just yet.

That is the point I am making. For me, the only purpose of a screen protector imo is for resale value. Outside of that I feel like it is a detriment to the aesthetics/user experience.

Idol is not engraved, but rather "showing" through from the back of phone. Check the other pictures and you will see no engraving. I have ordered this; going to check the fit with the case in my Seidio SURFACE Holster for Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Currently using this holster for my OPO with a Diztronic Full Matte Black Flexible TPU Case for OnePlus One and it is a good fit. I find the 5.5." display phones (I didn't say phablet on purpose!) do better in a holster rather than my pocket. Just a preference thing I guess.
naked all the way, the idol 3 is really thin and I'd like to keep it that way. I've had the moto g naked and just a few small scratches. the idol 3 has dragontail glass which should prevent scratches anyway

Dragontail should prevent scratches, I'm more concerned about drops because the backing of the phone is a tad bit slippery based on a few reviews.

Ended up buying a cheapo case from eBay as well as the official case from Alcatel's website. The weird thing about the website is that it doesn't allow you to put anything into your shopping cart until you create an account.

Don't suppose you'd share which case you purchased and was it from overseas? I'm trying to find a cheap transparent hard back case but would consider others....I'm trying to avoid having to wait 30+ days for a case from overseas when my phone should be here in a week or so.
Also does anyone have suggestions for a rugged leather belt holster? I'm unsure what other model phone's have a similar enough footprint as there don't appear to be any out for the idol 3 yet.

My original post has a link to the eBay purchase from overseas (China) that I made. Other than that, I got the translucent hard case directly from Alcatel. Neither have arrived yet. If you are in a hurry, the original post I made (LK case from Amazon) apparently ships quickly. I saw a few people on reddit/slickdeals who said that they have received their cases already. Also, I'd dig deeper into Amazon if you are interested in a belt holster. I may have seen one or two of those on there but I didn't post it up since I don't wear belt holsters.
My $3.99 eBay case came in the mail yesterday (7 days after placing my order). I might cancel my $11 official shell case order from Alcatel because this looks like it'll do the trick. Gotta get the phone and see how it feels first I suppose, but I like the feel of the matte on the back as well as how the translucent sides contrast the matte back. Makes it look less cheap than a completely translucent model. Also, no company labeling on the case which is something that turned me off of the LK cases on Amazon.
The dual layer lightning knight or whatever one doesn't fit right for me.
I'm happy w/ the frosted clear Lightning King case. The fit is perfect, and the buttons function very well. TPU cases I'e had on old phones always made actuating the buttons difficult, but not this one.
I'd really like a transparent TPU case, but I think the official Alcatel one plastic rather than TPU, since it's a "shell".
Amazon cacnceled official case order
I had pre-ordered the official Alcatel transparent case from Amazon, today got notice from Amazon that they have to cancel the order. Amazon status now shows not available. Anyone actually manage to get one of these cases, from Amazon or direct from Alcatel?
So the Honor 5x is pretty damn tough:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ud1zzi8VfY
At some point in the above video, guy decides to go from dropping it above his head, to 10th floor. I would guess that in between they had a hard time messing the phone up, and figured 10th floor should put a dent in it somewhere. Which is insane.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ9-sTXPoek
The Aluminum case will scratch. LCD screen is tough.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKhQ3wdPBh4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePHsWx88GLY - fire cracker test
Mad props to the hardware folks at Huawei! So at this point the question is now: What case and or screen protector do you think is the best? Just a case? Just a screen/camera protector?
After watching those videos, I would say, you would want something on the back to protect the aluminum from being scratched (case), combo'd with a Tempered Glass Screen Protector.
Screen Protector :
Rely on this thread for the best one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/accessories/tempered-glass-screen-protectors-t3296240
My personal recommendation: The Honor 5x comes with a plastic screen protector by default. Its awesome that they include a screen protector by default. The default screen protector has a crappy feel to it, but it does work. I highly highly highly recommended you remove the default screen protector and purchase a tempered glass screen protector. I myself purchased a cheapo chinese Tempered glass screen protector. It feels like an iPhone after I upgraded. Meaning, the quality of the touch is super nice, its more responsive to the touch. I at first didn't believe people when they said this, but they are right. The cheapo screen protector didn't come with a cutout for the camera lens (which you can get).
Cases (for scratches):
NOT recommended:
Honor 5x flip cover case: https://store.hihonor.com/us/honor-5x-flipcover
The case that comes with the phone. Junk. No protection. I used this at the start, one time it fell off the table, the case actually came off the phone in mid air somehow, and the phone case-less landed on the concrete. Now I have a permanent mark.
Standard Clear Case - https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71-+PHk2giL._SL1500_.jpg
Clear cases from my experience, will eventually turn YELLOW. I currently have a clear case, it started out clear but turned Yellow/Brown.... ehh... If you have owned a clear case for a good period of time (maybe 6 months?).... Please specify if it yellows or not. You also have to make sure that on the front of the phone the lip of the case goes over the screen.
Recommended:
1. Thin case - The phone is tough, you just need to prevent scratches. Thin cases can make it easy to fit into pocket.
2. Front bumper - I wouldn't get a case if the lip didn't protrude from the front.
3. Stiffness - The case needs to be pretty stiff so the case doesn't move out of the way incase of an accident.
4. Distinct Physical Buttons - The phone without a case, its hard to figure out which is Volume+/Volume- and power by just using your finger. A case can solve this problem by adding bulk to each button. This alone is good enough reason to get a case.
Thoughts? Better recommendations?
I have this case very good not to bulky all round good protection only issue is it ships from China so had to wait awhile

Yeah, I echo that - purchased the official case and it is a let down. Looks and feels cheap, which it most certainly is not!
Also, with any flip case, the fingerprint sensor is covered when it's open...
I've ordered the case that @tintin1892 recommended, but still awaiting delivery. Will see what that's like. I really don't want to be using the flip case, but I'm loath to chance the phone getting damaged so I'm continuing to until the shell arrives. Once it does, the flip case is gone!
The case I bought with my phone.. No issues, I think it looks great, has a little kick stand if you're into that and it's cheap! But the quality of the case feels like you're paying for something triple the price. Dropped the phone a couple times and not even a scratch on the case! I think it's in different colors too but I got the gray and black. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0198BBURS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_uVElxb0J06P91
I went with the Tudia case in the OP's first case link and have not been disappointed at all. Still using screen protector that came on the phone though.

I had a fantastic case called Trident Cyclops for my HAM2 (Thanks Super Bass).
So i ordered a case off Amazon but it doesn't have the plastic front frame like the Cyclops did, only a Cradle of sorts where you shove the Honor 5X in it and try to fit the rubber rim around the frame.
Is there any nice solid case still around like the Trident Cyclops was for HAM2 for the Honor 5X?
Nillkin Nature Clear TPU. My go to TPU brand/type for any of my phones. Not too bulky, with anti-slip on the sides, port protections and is as slim as it can be.

I have a Spigen transparent case, and it's very awesome ! It's leightweight, thin and very transparent.
You can see more here : https://www.amazon.fr/SpigenĀ®-Crystal-Transparent-Adherence-Encombrement/dp/B01DJHHW74
Is there any OtterBox for the 5x?!
Nilkin plus Nilkin for me. :victory:
I've been using a Nilkin glass and Caseformers combo since Feb. I drop my phone all the time, on concrete, and hardwood floor. Only recently got a couple cracks in the screen protector and scuffs on the case. Best combo I've had for any device I've had.

This case sucks. I brought it via ebay. There are two main issues with this.
The headphone jack opening was too small. My headphone jack does not completely plug in. Alternative is to use bluetooth headset.
The fingerprint opening was too small. It fails to unlock your phone 8 out of 10 times. Alternaitve: You will have to use PIN/Password/Pattern to unlock your phone aka fingerprint scanner is useless.
I switched to Huawei Honor 5X Case - TUDIA Full-Matte ARCH TPU Bumper Protective Case for Huawei Honor 5X. It's perfect. It did not have any of the above issues at all. Highly recommend. Wish they have Otterbox defender case for this phone or one with belt clip and secure.
Honestly, about the screen protector. Even a simple tempered glass protecter does the job well. But if you are really really looking for something great, look for Olephobic coated tempered glass for it.

Yes my honor 8 have such
You could find an 'anti-glare' glass for it as well. It will help you a lot but might little bit make colors on your screen 'washed away'. I wish if I could find them in my country for cheap though.
Here is the link to anti glare glass: https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Shield-Anti-Glare-Protector-Replacement/dp/B016DDC582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501341053&sr=8-1&keywords=honor+5x+anti+glare
