I am trying to modify a stock services.jar and was attempting to follow JoshBeach's guide but the code lines he says to look for are not found. Can anyone assist me with where I can find the correct line of code or just a services.jar that has nothing but the hotspot mod enabled?
Thanks in advance
I don't think JoshBeach is delving for Sprint devices anymore as he has gone to an AT&T Note 3. Here are a few links, maybe you can find some info there. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi guys,
Over at the HTC Hero forum I have been developing a kitchen to help ordinary people learn how to build their own ROM. Recently, I purchased a Nexus One, and so I was able to port this kitchen so that it can now successfully create a rooted Nexus One custom ROM.
The kitchen works for the Nexus One but is still found at the HTC Hero Android Development subforum, so I'll probably get someone to move it to a common forum eventually:

Enjoy!
WOW, thanks, cant wait to try

No problem, I'm trying to get Wi-fi tethering working as well, as the Nexus One requires some additional steps to get it to work. I asked in the Wireless Tether thread.. maybe someone knows?
I'm going to check this out, may be just what I needed
Wow thanks a lot, very kind of you to do this! Setting up now
Ok, I have now updated the kitchen to version 0.20, so that Nexus One owners can now cook in the Wireless Tether. As you might know already, for the Nexus One the wireless tethering app requires a kernel modification (which is kind of complicated for the Average Joe), so the kitchen does all that for you automatically. I just used the modified kernel that is provided in the Wireless Tether project page.
ROM ROM ROM ya boot..
Works really well, although it might be better (under OSX) to make the disk bigger than 500mb.
I found the simplest way to use the soylatte java was to extract it, put it on my Kitchen disk and then simply modify the menu by adding
Code:
PATH=/Volumes/Kitchen/soylatte16-i386-1.0.3/bin/:$PATH
at the top. Saves screwing up any other java dev work going on
Tested it with a Nexus One Cyanogen rom, works nicely for stripping out stuff I don't want and adding what I do.
Good Job. Thanks!

worked nicely for me too. set up a virtual machine on my macbook and loaded latest ubuntu plus jdk. ...changed splash ...stripped an apk ...added in motoapps for exchange calendar ...added a wifi tether direct instead of tool ...dropped in a few extra media sound files. the output zip flashed no problem and all tweaks (through very-very minor) working.
it would be appreciated if any more resource links exist other than those already in first post of thread. i'd like to learn more
yeah,this thing works(on mac).
but i wish we have a tutorial to cook a rom,(kernel).

There are about four tutorials linked on the first post of that thread, if that's what you mean.
a menu to edit build.prop will be great.

i'm trying porting desire rom to nexus one, flash successfully but when i try to boot it, it's going back to recovery menu.

Tweak stuff, if it breaks tweak it back and reflash
That's how I find out what works and what doesn't... trial and error.

I don't think the Nexus One has the storage capacity to flash a Desire ROM - has been mentioned in this forum in some threads. You have to take stuff out to save space.
Menu for build.prop? I'm as much of a noob as you.
Is there any way to change the carrier name in the notification bar, I've been searching forever and I havn't found anything. I've looked through framework-res.apk with no success. Does anyone know how to do this?
I'm using a HTC tattoo with cyanogenmod 6,
Android 2.2

Thanks dude, I've attached the file. There's a ton of users in the NOS 4.2.2 GPE that want this fixed but we can't seem to figure out how. If you get this fixed for us then you're an absolute life saver. Happen to know this stuck around even when flashing to a completely different rom?
Thanks

For those of you that are getting code 14 when trying to access settings.db to add WiFiHotSpot toggle, I found the solution after doing a lot of searching.
Install and run this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.viper.tbrestorefixerfree
After installing this, I was able to finally access settings.db to add the WiFiHotSpot toggle. Hope this helps anyone that's been going crazy trying to figure this out like I was.
This did not work for me...
What are you using to open the file? Sqlite? That's what I'm using. Sorry if this is not working for you. It's the only way I could get it to work.

I was still getting error code 14.. Unfortunately I don't have any screen shots but I do have tether working now just no toggle in the drop down.i can't remember the name of the hack I used for tether but it is on xda. I would have to go look for it to find out the name. It works for mk2 and the mj build as well
It worked!
Thank you, it fixed the issue in my Sprint S4
Sorry if I bump this from the graveyard, but it fixed my " SQL Editor Code 14 " error. Samsung Galaxy s5 900a
Ok I see I posted in wrong spot so im going to try this plea once more.
I know xda is known to be a top site I trust in for rooting but danm, there is just links to links to more links and one topic to get an answer goes through like five links to get the download and im still not sure if its right.
is there ANYONE who is willing to help me find the things I cant see bc my pc is making it more confusing with all the links just to find one tar download or gapps. And I still havnt found the actual download.
Is there another site anyone recamends I could use to find the files I need to download and root or can email me personally with the information??
im sprint galaxy note 3
I have odin already
need correct working tar.md5 file to root and the supersu and gapps if needed. I wanted to just flash a clean stable rom that I can set with a dark them to help me read the screen better and easier bc im half blind. But this egg hunt on the forums is overwhelming. Can anyone please help me? You are free to personally email me at [email protected] I was just hoping it would be easier then I thought to root so I could see better but its turning into a scavenger hunt so I figured if I could ask someone, who knows the forums well, if they could help direct me. Id greatly appreciate the help! Im a graphic designer so I can do something in return for you lol
If you can see YouTube videos there are videos for everything you want to do. With links to the files you will need in the comments.
Could u share the links to the video? My problem atm is navigating the site to find info. Not familure with its layout so it's taking me 3x as long just to find where to search.
