Safe strap 3.73 + stock rom = no hotspot? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey guys I have tested many ROMs and ask far my favorite is the stock ROM rooted I am going to deodex it when I get time. My problem is that my hotspot don't work. It freezes when it turns on. It is part of my plan and worked before safe strap and root. I read a post in here said I needed safe strap version 2. Something for it to work. Any one running newest safe strap on stock ROM with working hotspot ? Anyone know how to revert back from 3.7 to 2 ?

So, have both versions on your system. I got a good copy of v3.65 for XT912 here, And XT910 here.
Uninstall the recovery while running v3.73 of Safestrap
Uninstall Safestrap v3.73
Install Safestrap v3.65
Install the recovery while running v3.65
Do the above all at one time do NOT reboot in between steps, only reboot when you have the recovery installed!

I disagree.. Safe strap is much more forgiving than BMM, And I've yet to see more than 1-2 ROMs for only BMM. Safe strap is supported on almost every RAZR ROM that I've seen. Also, if you screw up, Safe strap can normally (see: "normally") still allow you to have a working system.
Safestrap is safer, bootmenu has a few more options... Use one of the two depending con which ROM you want...

I figured out BMM faster than SS, which happened to soft-brick my phone. Also, I replaced stock ICS with JB on BMM, which I couldn't figure out on the other one.
BMM can install any ROM you want. Just use System 2, and kexec roms (for not to flash jb kernel) and you'll never loose your stock one.

There is a way to root 4.1.2. Just use matts utility 1.9 to root it! It should be in the dev section!

PLEASE HELP w/ SAFESTRAP 3.11

I have a RAZR XT912 running ICS 4.0.4 & "SKULLCANDY" ROM with SAFESTRAP v3.05 & I want to update to SAFESTRAP v3.11, I have not been able to confirm that v3.11 will work fine on ICS, only on JB. Can someone please confirm for me that SAFESTRAP v3.11 will work on 4.0.4? If it works on ICS I would also like some step-by-step instructions on how exactly to do the update.
Thank you to those who can offer me help, it is greatly appreciated.
I had no issues with safe strap 3.11 on ICS. Worked like a charm!
As for installing it. You need to be on your stock non safe side to update. There you should go into your safe strap 3.0X app and remove it within the app using its utilities. (all this of course after you've made a nandroid backup of your respective safe and non safe roms.) After that you need to install the new safe strap 3.11 and then run it once opened to install it. Then you should be able to reboot into recovery and see if it worked. You should see the new safe strap version once you reboot into a rom.

[Q] System software not authorized HELP!!!,

I updated from ME7 to MJ7 with success than I flashed philz recovery with the root tools app and got the message
Secure fail: kernel
" system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help."
After I managed to boot back into my stock rooted phone and flashed CWM from rom manager and with no luck got the same message.
What do you think I should do? I really don't want to have to Odin back to stock and root with root de la Vegas again.
Discard when upgrading is very dangerous. You may have to Odin back to stock and root de la Vegas again
is your phone originally mdk base and you are loki'd? if not, the ONLY recovery available is safestrap. You will have to ODIN your phone and do some reading

if you took the update, you are screwed with custom recovery except for safestrap
So if I have safestrap I have to have a backup of the stock rom right? Or can I just install a custom rom and get rid of the stock rom?

Read the Safestrap threads. The answers to your questions are complicated, particularly the "get rid of the stock rom" since that's possible but risky.
YOU will need to judge whether or not you will take that risk based on understanding how Safestrap works.

Always back up the stock rom.
Like he said read up.
It gets complicated. I'm running Hyperdrive on my stock slot but there are risks.

to me the risks of losing the stock rom isn't worth it...especially if all this is new to you. You can always go back in the future and do i

You're definitely right there. I had to play the Odin game myself and I think for the time being HD11 is going to serve as my stock and I'm going to use Rom slots from now on.

[Q] Updating Safestrap from 3.65 to 3.72?

I was wondering if its recommended to upgrade to the latest version of Safestrap installed on the Razr X912. I have version 3.65 and I would like the opinion who are far more advance in these types of things than I am. Thank you in advance.

It won't mess with anything. You download the new .apk, install and open it, it will ask yo to remove the old one, and then ask you to install the new. Just make sure you do everything in the UI of your ROM and not in recovery or fastboot and you are golden.

You will not be able to flash a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM as you are not on a MDK bootloader.
With SafeStrap, you will only be able to run TW based custom roms (at least for now).
I hope this helps. Go back thru the forum and check out the sticky threads as they have a ton of info.
You can only install ROMS that are compatible with SafeStrap. I suggest HyperDrive

thank you very much zeb carter and blue.
there any list of supported roms with safestrap?
and using safestrap equals the remainder of the other recovery??
and the last question, the method "saferoot.bat/.sh" is recommended for safetrap?
There is a list of compatible roms in a thread in the general section.

Once you get safestrap I highly recommend Foxhound or Duxter. Venomous is good too if you don't mind a lot of red. You can change out the wallpapers. Baja is another good one.
What about those of us WITHOUT SafeStrap?

That's already answered in this thread. From your screenshot:
You have Baseband version NC5, which may mean that you have the NC5 bootloader.
You have Security Software MDF 1.0 release 2. That has nothing at all to do with the bootloader.
