Hello !
My sisters' Samsung Galaxy S' screen is broken, and need to reach the contacts. The Google sync were off,so no contacts on google account. There was not saved any csv files on memory card or internal memory as well.
Is there a way to get the contacts somehow ? Where to find the contacts in the internal memory ?
If USB Debugging was enabled, there's a chance. If not, pretty much out of luck. Other potential options, find someone with the same phone and swap motherboards long enough to get info or installing a custom recovery and doing a backup to restore on another of the same type of phone. Sorry, there aren't any easy options, but that's what happens when you don't make backups of important data - ESPECIALLY if not using Google.
On pc. Go gmail. Contact tick alll.
Go. More. Export. In. Vcf. Then download. After download. Copy. That. Vcf in. Ur. Any. Mobile. Go. Contact. Import. Give. Path. Other wise. Automatic. Find path. U hot it. Contacts. Enjoy. If. U success. Reply. Me. Any type. Of. Ques. Reply. Me.

Really helps to read the OP. They said there was no Google account associated with the phone. And your typing like that is just awful. You need a new keyboard app or something.

I think you would have to be rooted too as you would need to try and pull the contacts.db from /data/data/ which is not a part you have access to without root permission.
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db

Check the Device Manager to see if there are driver errors. Other potential causes include the cord, USB ports on the computer, and the port on the phone. Switch things around and pay attention to how the Device Manager responds as you do for more information.
Also, I don't know if this might help. If she set up Google account to sync here information from her phone, you could try this:
Android contacts
Syncing, importing, and organizing your Android contacts
Syncing your contacts
Your contacts are automatically synced when you first turn on your phone and sign into a Google Account, so make sure to add your Google Account to your Android device. Any existing contacts from that account are synced with your device.
After that, all your contacts automatically stay in sync, whether you make changes on your phone, from another device, or from any Web browser. The contact information on your device is also available in Gmail, Google Talk, Messenger, Phone, and other apps where it's useful. As you add contacts from different sources, they are synced automatically across all the places you need them.
Since contacts are automatically synced, if you delete a Google contact from your device, it will also be deleted from Google Contacts, which will also remove it from other places, such as Google Chat.
Importing Android contacts to Gmail
Android contacts are automatically synced to your Gmail account, so there’s no need to import them.
You can find any contacts you’ve created on your device in your Gmail by following these steps:
On your web version of Gmail, click Gmail on the left side of your Gmail page, then choose Contacts
Click My contacts on the left side of the page
If you’ve starred favorite contacts on your Android device, find them in your Gmail contacts by clicking Starred under My contacts.

::facepalm:: It's literally in the 2nd sentence where he says there was no Google account synced, otherwise we wouldn't be trying to jump through all these other hoops.
OP: If you know for certain that USB Debugging is on, you can try one of the big carriers and see if they have a Cellbrite machine. If they don't know what that is, then you're calling the wrong places. lol The official VZW, ATT, T-Mobile, and Sprint stores should all have access to one.

Hello everyone...
everytime I try to create a new contact (saving a phone number), my p500 selects the contact to be a "PC Sync" contact type...
I want it to be a "google account" type instead, so it can be synchronized with my Gmail acount...
I know I can change this option when saving a new contact to a google account type, but if I accidently save it as a PC Sync type, I just cant change it by editing the contact, I must delete the contact and create a new one again as a google type...
in short words - I want to disable\delete the LG PC Sync option from my Optimus one p500...
please help me out, and excuse my English.
Thanks alot..
Anyone? please help...
If you have a rooted phone, install 'titanium backup' and freeze the 'pc sync' service. This will remove the option of pc sync from appearing when you are trying to add a new contact. Unfortunately, for me, the default contact save location changes to 'sim' rather than the google account. I still am unable to remove the ' sim' option. You can try for yourself. if the 'freezing' doesn't work out, you always have the option of 'defrosting' through titanium backup.
And
I had created a thread with the same question. searching for it would have provided you with the same info as in my post.would have saved me the trouble of writing it twice.
Sorry, I did searched and never found an answer, thats why iI started this thread...
Hi,
any progresion here? It's realy annoying to allways set it to google - should be default definitely. I allways miss it and have to create contact twice :-(
I'm searching too for a fix for this thing. Did somebody managed to solve this?

Dumb question, but I have yet to figure it out LOL. So I got 2 new phones for my kids and I add them to my contact list and sync contacts, but everytime I flash a new rom and log in to my google account the 2 new phones are never on my contact list and I continually have to re add them. How do I get my contacts to sync and update to my google account ?
Thanks for any help it's driving me nuts.
When you add a contact, there are options to save to the phone, google, or sim card, make sure you change from phone, to google.

Since we're on this topic, I've noticed that when I edit a google contact on my phone it only stays changed for a few mins until it re-syncs with google contacts and then it goes back to the way it was. How can I set it so that I can edit info on the phone and it'll update the contact on google's servers. It seems like its only a one way sync on this HTC phone. I've had galaxy S phones before and never had this problem. Thanks.

I have the same problem on an SG3. It is driving me crazy. At the moment is seems that the only way to get a new contact on the phone is to enter it into Google first.
This seems to be a big problem for a lot of people.
I expect that there is some simple answer and that it is simply that smething which is being misunderstood - but if some knows the answer and could post it here - there would be a lot of grateful people.
There is also the option to back your phone up with your google account when you first sync it. DoD you select that?

I hope I'm doing this right

Complaints here are worthless without saying what code is being run. I use rooted/debloated stock firmware, and contacts sync just fine between the phone and gmail.

Same. I've never had an issue like this in all my years on android. All I can say is make 100% sure you are changing the Google contact in your phone book and not a phone/facebook/sim one. Any chances made via phone or Web to contacts should sync pretty much instantly.
Also if you have multiple accounts like I do, I'd recommend using just one for all your numbers and having the others just for email addresses and such. Maybe the multi account sync is just showing the one with the most information vs the actual one that you edited. See if this helps
finally i found the solution on the net. @ https://forums.motorola.com/posts/4b949ea56b

Google syncs with your phone contacts, so you should have the contacts both on google AND on your phone. Make sure that sync is set up correctly.
NO is not in my phone.. thats why I was wondering why I was missing these new contacts..
HAve you notice, when you go to create a new contact, by default below the name it says, Contact type ... Google
well I didnt see that and I saved it like that, but I want to have it only in my phone saved

I think in the people app you can change the settings to only show the in phone contacts then when you add a contact it will automatically create it in phone rather than a google contact.

why would you want to save it only on your phone? If you save it on google, that way, when you get a new phone, you won't have to go through the hassle of transferring the contacts.

I save mine only in my phone, I hate it when it adds it to google. All you have to do is export them onto your sd card and the import them on the other phone, it's actually easier than dealing with the google contacts, they seem to bug out at times, weird characters in the addresses, missing didgets, etc.
Reclaim your Contacts !
Actually turned out simpler to do than i initially thought it would be.
Enables "Keep Locally" ( keep_local ) option for adding new contacts instead of forced google account.
Prevents google from deleting all you contacts when you remove your account
Disables google contact sync
The offending package comes with gapps if you got google that way.
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk you will find it in /system/app/ (need root file explorer to see it though)
You can make this fix in 3 ways, the first may not need root but i cant test as my phone is rooted.
In Settings>App find it in the list of all installed apps, click it, click disable. (please someone tell me if they can do this without root)
Use a root file explorer such as "Root Browser", navigate to /system/app/ backup the app .apk to your sdcard for example, then delete it.
You can also try clicking the app .apk in "Root Browser" and choose uninstall, but i could get this to work.
Thats it ! , no need to reboot. Enjoy
(to test it worked, just navigate to Settings>Accounts>(your google account) and you will see there is no longer the option to sync contacts)

What would be the thing to replace this with? It's important to have something as convenient as what we're replacing. You can export you contacts to a single .vcf file. This can then be bluetoothed over to your desktop, uploaded to a server or transferred by USB or sdcard but what we really want is something as convenient as Google Contacts which syncronises to a place/server that you control automatically and easily.
Not sure if there's an alternative app out there though for this?
There's Go Contacts, ContactMoney and alternative dialers but I don't think these have alternative sync methods.
I think I'd prefer something from the fDroid/homebrew/commandline way. Perhaps a SyncML solution, or just something that automates the process of exporting contacts, encrypting them with a basic password and uploading to dropbox or an email address.
i was thinking the same thing, like ftp/sftp backup. it could be done pretty easily but i may not be the person to do it , i havent looked around though and suspect there may already be something already that could do this...
btw, yes i love f-droid too and recommend everyone to install its repo browser app and check out whats on offer.

In f-droid you find funambol (syncML), LDAP Sync and aCal (CardDAV).
I don't use any of them (to lazy to set up a server) but with some effort you should be able to make contact-sync work for you.

hotmail/corporate sync
This worked fabulously till i decide to use a Hotmail account (with the stock email app), from that moment on the problem reappeared, just instead of trying to store the contacts in gmail, it now tries to store in Hotmail/corporate account!!!!
Has Google hired all the stupid developers that Microsoft fired??? Microsoft is becoming famous for it ability to consider their clients stupid and the attitude: when-know-what-you-want-better-than-you, now Google seems to be going with the same mentality!
Any idea how to stop this on the hotmail account?
p.s. my only workaround was to use the Hotmail app instead of the stock email app, unfortunately the Hotmail app (Microsoft, remember?) thinks i will never need to see any email older than 30 days?!?!?! WTF???

I use MyPhoneExplorer - it syncs my local contacts to my Thunderbird and vice versa. It syncs calendar events too ... so eventually I've got a copy and it's all local. One thing it doesn't do is contacts photos, so I also use SuperBackup to make a copy on my SD card (this way I can get the pictures up quickly).
When contacts are in Thunderbird (I've created there an address book just for syncing the phone) I can re-arrange, edit, etc. and when syncing back the pictures are retained ... Then I do SuperBackup to have a copy of new phone book with pictures.
Regards,...

This little app will do the trick:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.mylocalaccount
After you install it, go to Accounts and create one "MyLocalAccount". After that, all you have to do is to transfer your contacts from the Google account into the "Local contacts" account just created. You can do this with the built-in Export/Import contacts tool.

Hi, i want to reverse this topic
sync google accounts
It's been a while since I've been through this, but unfortunately I have a similar problem. My problem is "Google account" in accounts and sync. But I can only select google photos when I click on the sync mark. No selection box for contacts. How can I fix that?
The device has clone s3 and ics 4.0.4 on it. The gapps packages available for this release also do not work. It does not synchronize people in any case. I cleaned the data from the applications, I deleted Accounts.db and reinstalled it.
Finally, I found the following lines for Accounts.xml and added it, but still there is no positive situation. What else can I do? Thank you.
Syncable = "true"> <authority id = "3" account = ".." type = "com.google" authority = "com.android.contacts"
<PeriodicSync period = "86400" />
</ Authority>
So i have some friends with personal contacts that i have had for years, their facebook profile does not have their phone number attached. I go through manually and join them to merge the # with the facebook email and pictures. Then i use Ubersync to update the facebook pictures so when they call the picture isn't blurry its crystal clear.
Problem is when i factory reset my phone, and tried to do what i normally do, the contacts wont merge. It says Contacts Joined on the phone when i select the two i want to merge, but the data does not move nor does the pictures.
I then googled around for a bit and found a program called Sync.ME, ran it and it moves the pictures but will not move the emails or information provided by facebook.
When you delete the facebook contact by the way, it mentions read only and im not sure if there is some setting i need to enable or what.
Thanks for all the help in advance

Give the app Haxsync a whirl. Sound like it is similar to Ubersync but I never have issues after a factory reset. Been using it flawlessly for over a year on multiple devices.
Make sure you also install the jelly bean workaround file....you'll see it if you search haxsync

It is haxsync specific. Without it only half your contacts will sync properly. You don't need to do anything with it aside from just making sure it is installed along with the app.

You may just have to play around with the settings a bit. Some contacts won't auto-sync if the google name is slightly different than the way it appears on Facebook. In that case just go in the google contact, tick menu, then merge, then find their haxsync FB contact.

exactly what i did, So i got it working and heres how just incase someone runs into the same issue.
Go into the facebook app -> Settings -> Disable Sync
Leave Hacksync enabled and syncing
Go to your contacts and the one with the # you want to attach to the hacksync'd contact information is the one you will edit
Change the name to the exact name they use on the other contact
It will ask you to merge, accept and feel superior.
Thanks for everything
