I am extremely disappointed in your company and the poor business practices.
I purchased a transformer prime based of the specs and supposed solid company making the unit. I read many articles about the issues the prime had but made a poor decision believing the delay in reaching retail was to fix the issues with the unit. After purchasing I found that the GPS is almost useless and our way to fix it was to remove the reference to GPS from the product sheet. This was very underhanded and shows a lack of standing behind your product. I have also lost a SD card because the SD slot was poorly implemented and results in them being easily springing out of the unit.
Now I find out that instead of fixing these issues you decide to scrap the Prime within weeks of release and ship a newer unit and leave us early adopters in the cold. On top of that not only are you releasing a fixed and fully functional unit you upgrade their screen resolution again leaving us out in the cold. I realize that there is always something new on the horizon but you clearly
released an untested unit that is a black eye on you company and instead of making it right you sweep it under the carpet and hope the new
launch will make everyone forget about the troubled prime. The pathetic thing is this will work but thousands of early adopters who spent there
money on your product are left in the corner crying that we have a product that was sold to us not fully functional.

Yes, Asus only read the thread title and moved on. They are feeling pretty good right now. High fives all around the office.

The new one isn't coming til q2 and it costs more.
Also is asus only allowed to release one product a year or something? Newer better stuff comes out every couple of months.

Wow, the new features are:
1. Back design change to enhance GPS/Wifi
2. Higher resolution screen
3. 2MP front camera.
This is certainly a bug fix release. How do you sell the current Prime along side the newer one with a $100 different in price for higher res screen and modest increase in MP for front camera? The current prime will be quietly phased out shortly after the release and the price for the new one will drop to the current Prime price. I kind of feel dry fu**** now.

new hardware is always coming out. do you want to wait another six months and then another six months and then another six months when new hardware keeps getting announced. you pick your point and you dive in the river.
it's just like buying a new car, it depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Only problem is that there is not much new hardware here and it is releasing before they even have stock in retail. It is a bug fix release period.
Wow, people are impatient. This whole GPS thing just happened. Why does anyone expect ASUS to have already decided how they're going to handle it?
If we're in the same place at the end of January, beginning of February, then maybe it'll be time to pull out the pitchforks. Until then, hows about we relax a little?

If you buy a 2011 car in July, you know that the 2012's are coming out in the Fall. If you buy a 2012 car in the Fall, you'd assume it'll be "new" until the 2013's come out. How would you feel if they announced a 2012.5 immediately after you purchased? And that the dealer knew and even had the brochures in his desk and didn't show them to you? You may still buy the 2012 but at least you'd have had the option of waiting. Kind of a clunky analogy but it makes the point.
On the plus side Prime owners, all the smug cnuts rubbing our faces in it will get the shaft from Asus in about 6 months so we piss all over them too at that time. And they will have paid more to get screwed over.
The people saying to calm down because new tech comes out often are missing the point. The issue here is that it's pretty clear that the new Prime is coming out to address defects of the current one. It's not a "new" product in the traditional sense.

how are they releasing it before there is stock of the tf201? this thing is slated to be out in q2, and with the delays that surrounded the prime and tf101, it probably won't hit stores before fall.
as to the lack of new hardware,
remember the iphone 3gs, 4s?
the droid 3/4/x2?
a plethora of HTC devices?
many companies offer slightly refreshed versions of hardware as "new" versions, it's nothing new and since they are charging more for the new tablet AND it won't be out before june most likely i don't really see the problem.
if anyone is unhappy with this development, everyone here is still in their return windows, no one is holding a gun to anyones head and forcing them to keep the prime.
now what i do find issue with is them not offering to replace the back cover for prime owners who want the better functioning gps/wifi, but since the dimensions seem to be the same (since the docks are compatible) they still could offer something like that for us.

Exactly. The Asus execs all sat in a room and said, how can we fix our design flaw issue here so it doesn't haunt us all year? Let's fix the back plate design flaw and add a couple of small new things so that it appears to be a new product and slap a new model number on it. Once released, we will quietly phase out the original prime and blame poor sales on the decision. Then we drop the price of the newer prime and all is fixed.
Which is my issue. I understand new tech comes out quickly. I had a Xoom day 1 and in less then a year upgraded it. My issue is that they are being very unethical in how they are handling the design flaws. When did it become acceptable to sell a product that is advertised with certain abilities and then saying later that because you removed it from the spec sheet after launch they are no longer accountable. And when has any company announced an upgrade before the original is truly sitting on shelves.

Agreed. Regardless of whether I decide to keep my Prime or not (I'm leaning towards keeping it, as I want a tablet now and don't see any other suitable alternatives currently available), I will never be buying another product from Asus again. There are plenty of other companies that make similar products. I'll 100% be using them over Asus in the future.
whoopde do. When it comes out in six months i'll sell my prime for $250 or $300 and buy one.
I am not within my window to return it as once you opened the unit many companies will not return them. Best Buy only allows a 14 day window on tablets which is also past for many of us.

You make a great point. Most people will by while still hyped about a product. Let the people buy the product, then let the hype die down after thousands of tablets have been sold, not before!
its because apple waits a whole year before announcing anything. then 2 weeks before they plan on releasing, they announce it. they give no hint of a new device throughout the whole year.
Android gives you a heads up of what's to come since so many different tablets to choose from. Apple has only 1 tablet so no need for a heads up earlier in the year. they let rumours build till the next year.
Apple set the stage for this a few years back when they pulled out of the MacWorld conference and started hosting their own events. That way, they 1) isolate their message and 2) establish an annual upgrade schedule for their products. This is brilliant in a few ways:
1. It creates a built-in base of customers anticipating the next, great Apple product and ready to upgrade. If they don't upgrade annually (say, from the iPad to the iPad 2), then they absolutely upgrade every other year. They offer just enough value to entice those biannual upgraders, and count on the hardcore fans to upgrade every year.
2. It gives the media a chance to plan their stories (i.e., prime the hype pump). Editors and reporters love things they can plan out, and they likely keep their slates clean the month of the next Apple event.
3. It allows them to build out their inventory before announcing, and then release almost immediately. Because of #1 and #2, they're virtually guaranteed to sell out of these initial inventory runs. There's always some wiggle room on when the event actually takes place, so any glitch in supply of a week or two (or three, or a month) can easily be dealt with just by moving the date a bit.
Android manufacturers, however, pretty much rely on CES to show off their best stuff, and CES hardly ever seems to correlate with their product cycles. If they DON'T show at CES, then they're left out of the biggest hype cycle of the year. But by showing at CES when their product cycles are months out, they lose the hype. And Android manufacturers aren't alone, either--consider that HP pretty much killed the TouchPad and Pre 3 by announcing in February (around CES) and not releasing until months later. The same was true for the original Pre, which won Best of Show at CES 2009 but then completely dropped off the radar by the time it actually shipped.
Who knows, maybe Android manufacturers will start synching their product cycles to CES. Or, they'll do like Samsung seems to be doing--holding off on showing their best stuff, like the Galaxy S III, until it's closer to shipping. I have a feeling that the SGSIII will be released a few weeks after it's announced. Same thing with the next-gen Samsung tablet.
But someone like ASUS could NEVER get the traction necessary. It's CES, or fade into oblivion.

This +1000 time over. It looks like Samsung are starting to do their own thing now trying to compete with Apple but for smaller operations like Asus (who appear to not even be able to keep up with demand when one of their products does get hype), it's pretty much CES or bust. Its not just Android manufacturers at CES either, PC manufacturers and the custom PC parts companies have to show of their wares there too and for most of them it doesn't match their release cycles. I had to wait months after seeing the Corsair 600T Special Edition case at CES until I could buy one in Australia, very frustrating but its what they have to do to get it out there.

Yep. Apple really knows how to treat its customers.
My Apple Experience:
-iPad announced with official release date and all details.
-Available on website for preorder right away.
-They released a map a few days later showing the exact date they will be delivered for every city.
-They release the exact hour and stores where the iPad will be available on release date.
-My iPad arrives at the door on release date.
Prime Experience
-Announced in friggin October or something.
-"Release date gonna be November"
-Delayed
-Release date gonna be December 9, 11, 21, or 23
-Delayed.
-Don't get it before Christmas
-Don't get it before New Year
-Finally get it in January.
If Asus didn't mention nothing about the new Transformer's, i would have bought the transformer prime and be happy with it.

My prime experience is the same except you can add.
-Got Prime up and running and had Unknown Serial, No GPS, a white spot on the screen and another dark spot
-Finally got ICS by manual update (dealt with other issues)
-Decided to RMA device once Serial Number Unknown wasn't getting fixed OTA
-Sent it in
-Arrived the next day, checked in at Asus 2 days after
-Went straight to repairing for 2 days
-Went to WB5-Waiting for 3 weeks
-Contacted Asus and they said they would refund me and my issues may not get fixed if I wait it out.
Seriously?
This is a piddling thing.
My problem with Android makers is two fold
A) They won't support (i.e. keep the OS current) their old product after the next version comes out
and
B) They keep locking the bootloader so WE can't get support anywhere except from them.
And they don't release their hardware drivers when they stop support.
In short, the whole thing is designed to be disposable in the short term.

Sorry if I was a little harsh, but you maybe got a little of my frustration about the *****ing on this forum that has been a bit much lately. Sorry about that.
All I´m saying is if you have that much against Android manufacturers and what they are able to deliver then maybe you should consider to switch to something else.
And if one of the things that is your biggest problem is a locked bootloader....yeah well..
Do you have anyone else in mind that does better?
I think the OP is on to something with what he is adressing. Because this hurts Android as a hole and not just us consumers.
People get their hopes and dreams up only to forget because of the very very long time it goes from launch til release.
The technogeeks like us stays with it, but the "normal" people loose interest quite fast.
That is one of the things that Apple do right imo. They tell everybody that "Hey...we will have this and that for you soon" and they actually deliver a couple of weeks later when the story is still fresh.
None of the Android manufacturers do this. And that is a shame because not only do we as consumers loose upon this, but the companies loose as well.
And the Apple way of doing it do look much more professional to the most of the public. They dont want to wait 2-3 months from they first hear about it until they can buy it.
And I am a Apple "hater", and wish that Android would rule the tablet world as well as the smartphone world.
I can´t stand the "Apple way" but I´m big enough to admit that they do something right.
Apple has their own stores. You cant provide the same experience with 3rd party stores. The way apple releases their products is nearly perfect.
But in my case, the prime situation was very good. I preordered in November and soon after that got a date "late january" - I got my prime around the 20th January and it worked perfectly out of the box (C1). So i'm totally happy with the situation.
What i really dont get though is that Asus decided to announce their new products so far ahead of the release (Tf700+Tf300). I dont see any positives to that.
->It stopped people from buying the tf201.
->before the new tablets get released there was the launch of the ipad 3 (i'm sure asus knew about that) - so alot of customers get lost to a competitor.
->It pisses off tf201 buyers and provokes product returns.

Or maybe both.
The reason Apple releases so quickly after announcing is because they are already way behind the curve and don't want to fall back any further.

If I've helped you in any way... hit the "Thanks" button.
Its not really Android manufacturers to me but rather most tech companies.
I wish more of them would do it like Apple. Announce something and sell it in 1-2 weeks.
While I understand OP's point,
I respectfully disagree, One have to understand Apple is in a different place with other tablets on the market right now.
They have their own ecosystem, they don't compete with other company that builds systems using the same OS.
They have their own timeline, and with their experience in software/hardware + load of cash.
And Apple customers are loyal, once they are used to apple products its not unlikely for them to switch.
Android is a different story, 10-100s of manufacture competing, every company has something to offer, and since they are offering a very similar user experience (like windows on PC, you are likely to have owned ASUS, Acer, Dell or HP and switch between them). If you don't get a heads up on what's coming a few months earlier, you are very likely to have bought say, the Motorola xoom II, which still runs tegra 2 and was released about 1 month before the prime.
And if you have already bought the xoom II, its very unlikely for you to buy the prime since you had just bought a new tablet.
So now which user has more buyer's remorse?
1. Someone who waits for a quad core tablet to come out, but got delayed for a month or two to receive it.
or
2. Someone who bought the Xoom II, have it for 2 weeks, and to find out the quad core tablet is releasing in 2 weeks?
And I think the reason they announced the TF700/TF300 has to do with a few points:
1. the IPAD3, people know the ipad 3 has retina display, so they have to show that they are working on something with ultra high display too, so android user are less likely to switch to IOS due to the high resolution display.
2. Other Android Manufacture, people know that other android manufatures are going to come up with some in the Android department too, so they have to show something new in order to stand out in CES.
3. X'mas is too close to CES, they tried to release the prime before X'mas, but it should be clear it was a nearly impossible mission, considering now almost 4 months later, there are no other tegra 3 devices out yet. But ASUS managed to release it right before X'mas. And as a result, the CES show was just 1 month away.

There are at least 4 in NZ, that I know of - a country of 4 +million, extrapolate that to the world population - that means that there should be about 8000 sold
We'll never know because that will translate to how much tax they gonna pay lol...

Sony has released its numbers for Q3. They sold 10.7 million Xperia devices in Q3 which means they sold, and will sell around 40 million Xperia devices this year, which is a lot more than i thought myself. How many of those 40 millions are Ultras? I have no idea, but at least 1/40 should be Ultras, so 1 million (yes, i'm only speculating).

I had no idea Sony mobile where selling in that sort of volumes. I have been keeping an eye on Samsung sales and knock all other mobiles way out of the ball park. Oddly enough when magazines mention and debate mobile sales only three main names even appear, Samsung, Apple and LG. HTC even Nokia have been trying hard to play catch up.
Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola and HTC have all been in dire straits this past few years.
Sony has also obviously pulled itself up by its shoes laces as they also saw a very large drop in sales. I am pleased to see Sony making headway again. If only Nokia had made Android phones. Now they never will.
Just imagine the size of the Samsung empire! Jeez its a behemoth of a company. Must be THE most successful electronics manufacturer of all times not to mention its heavy and light engineering divisions. Korea became what Japan once was as Japan became what the UK once was.
No prizes for guessing what the new leading countries are going to be.
Interesting.
Ryland
Yeah, and Sony sold its VAIO division today. It's a sad day, but I think this will make Sony even better and they'll hopefully think twice before they do anything or think about releasing mediocre products. Sony should only release well engineered and designed products from now on, so they can get back to being the company they once were, that Steve Jobs admired and loved.

Sansui, Sanyo, Toshiba, Aiwa, Nakamichi, Pioneer, Rotel, Technics, Akai, Sony, Nagaoka. Denon JVC, Hitachi, Stax, AT, Sharp, Kenwood, TEAC, Onkyo, Marantz ............Many of those names in Hi-fi where legendary. Some have now disappeared all together.
Nakamichi made some of the greatest tape decks ever produced while Pioneer of old made some outstanding amplifiers as did Sansui. Sony AV multi channel audio amps.... So many now owned by other companies or gone for ever. Sony was one of the high street brands one could take for granted as being top of the range. Must add very expensive BUT one used to get what one paid for.
Sony has been one of the only brands to have their own high street shops as do B&O and Apple.
I have also been reading some reports today about Sony and the billions in sales they make every year yet some sections of the company still manage not to make a profit while others only make a few million in profit. Some years ago Sony nearly went under all together.
Rather pleased to see Sony now back on the right track. Sony have always been a niche market and never sold in massive numbers with regard to Hi-fi, Mobiles and TV's etc. Perhaps they diversified to much by purchasing all those Hollywood film companies?
I waffle, Sorry,

Great post. I also just read that Sony is cutting loose its Ebook business. It's pretty obvious they're restructuring the company and are cutting loose everything that doesn't make them a profit. It makes perfect sense, and i support the decision. They should focus on a few things, and make them as good as possible, and not do everything half assed and hope for the best.
although their ereader is good.
Down here they have a good chunk of the TV market, although I suspect Samsung is making inroads into it
Not enough sold. The Z.Ultra is a ahead of its time. If the screen was bigger in the same form factor would be amazing.

You may well regret saying that:laugh:
Product identity and consumer understanding.
Grab a coffee, this could be a long post...........
Like most of us I spend a fair amount of time reading various reports, industry reviews and forum posts. There is an awful lot of confusion with regard to mobile devices.
When is a mobile phone a mobile phone and when is a tablet a tablet? Part of the sales problems with the in between range of devices is identity. Unofficially we have named them 'phablets'. This IS important. Far to many professional reviewers write about the size of over 5" screens as being to big and not mobile. I tend to agree with them. Hang on. I tend to agree with them when they review said device as a mobile phone. IF we could officially adopt an industry name and categorisation such as 'phablet' this would reduce customer confusion and also help with sales and customer satisfaction.
When the net book was introduced they initially came out with an 8" screen. Toshiba made them, started a whole new segment in the portable device section. Consumers then purchased them and moaned about the screen being too small! Next model came with a 9" then 10" then before we new it we where in the lap top range so customers reverted back to lap tops and the net book died.
Then came the ultra book with an Intel industry specification. That seems to have worked as the industry has kept to that specification thus there is zero identity crisis when one purchases an ultra book.
The Xperia Ultra et al are not true mobile phones. With this is mind such devices come under an awful lot of fire as reviewers compare such devices with, for example, the Apple 5S. rather absurd when one thinks about it BUT understandable because as yet the term 'phablet' is unofficial. it matters, identity matters to avoid wrong and negative comparison.
IF those who make 'phablets' call them 'phablets' and box them as 'phablets' the consumer can make a much more educated choice of purchase.
The Ultra and those of a similar size should be marketed as a new breed of device, their strengths should be highlighted and that way this constant comparison game wold stop. No one reviews a car with a motor bike! Tow different machines.
I would very much like to see an industry standard with regard to this situation and each device market under that criteria. So much criticism is aimed at the Ultra also Note and Mega etc as being too big as a mobile phone. They ARE! They are not too big if we call them what they are...vis,,,a phablet
A phablet is not a mobile phone nor a tablet so why should we not celebrate the difference and concentrate on our phablets strengths?
Words and correct identification matter. Sales and consumer opinion matter. To this end we could boost sales also have a greater customer level of satisfaction if we called out Ultra et al what it is and not what it is not. What is the problem with the large companies marketing their phablets as phablets?
Just another ramble.

I understand your point completely. May I suggest the following? Maybe sales are affected due to consumer confusion vis, its much to large and rather preposterous to be sold under the guess of a 'mobile phone' YET absolutely spot of size for a superb 'phablet'?
Second point. Sony went thin on the Ultra. To reduce those top and bottom large bezels would mean making the Ultra fatter. if we think on this for a while it is logic as the electronic components have to go some where. If we take pastry we start with a think lump not wide.as we roll it out it becomes thinner and bigger, same amount of pastry in both scenarios though, not my best analogy!:silly:
Hey. Much better example. The MPV, its not a car nor a mini van and isn't sold as either it has its own unique identity
Visit the sites of Phone manufactures and they separate, for obvious reason, a phablet from a mobile phone. Why not introduce that third option the phablet? Correct and accurate branding will help greatly with sales as we human being do love to compartmentalise things be it people, behaviours or purchases, all to do with out comfort zones.
Place an Apple iPhone 5S along side an Ultra, mega or Note3 et al and call them 'mobile phones' and............its just speaks for itself.
Now remove that possibility and introduce a new product category with the correct sales identification and you have a wonderful option. More than a mobile phone and more portable than a tablet, its a phablet..........away ya go..........:good:
IF only life was that simple eh?

Sony have their own finance company in Japan. makes tens of millions profit. Their manufacturing dep. don't make nearly as much. However their view is to "Be the brand of choice in the hearts and minds of our customers by delivering the best customer experience."
They said they didn't believe other electronic consumer companies did that, so they decided to stay in the market.
Interesting... I have had an excellent experience with their products... but not after sales service...
Hi,
I'm confuse whether to buy or skip and wait for other smart watch. I'm interested with omate cause it come with sim slot any comment ;s
Well, you've got only one choice from the big OEMs...is the Gear S. Otherwise, there's the AI Watch which is expected to release soon. I say soon because they have delayed the launch a few times. But take a look:
www.aiwatchtech.com
Otherwise there are quite a few SZ (Chinese) watch's out there. Be careful, many of them are junk. I would stay away from the TS, there is NO developers supporting it at all.... and neither is Omate for that matter.

Not that I disagree with the above assessment, but I have now a used 1G/8G extreme version/US TS and I am pretty happy with it.
It is the only one I know of (including the Chinese copies out there) that offer it all: reasonable size with 3G/Wifi/bluetooth/gps AND full android, which I really like.Battery life is actually a bit better than expected (mine came with one of the ensec roms): I get easily 1 day.
I also own a Gear 2 (3 days of battery life; everything works well and less weight), which is a great little watch, but I hate being dependent on the companion phone (and even worse, it has to be one of the more recent Samsung ones: one reason why I never switched to iPhone/Apple).
Now, with the Omate TS you get something that works probably 95% of the time. If anything brakes, you are on your own though....no customer service, no replacement parts....so it all depends whether you are willing to take that risk....
On the positive side there is a lot to explore with the TS. I just installed Big Launcher (10$ on google play) and it works great (so far). Many apps that surprisingly work well on it. The freedom to get apps running from the Google Play store was one of my biggest incentives to try this little beast.
So far so good
Good luck!
PS: I am not 100% sure why Omate dropped development of this watch. They are now starting to advertise the Omate X, good looking, but not much different from all the many, many others out there (from companies with much bigger/well known names)....I would have sticked with the TS design idea and come out with a TS V2 (and continue to support TS V1 to not lose all the V1 customers!)....but that did not happen unfortunately....so this TS is my toy until one of the well reputed companies deliver something equivalent....(and not force you to their very confined infrastructure like Apple or Samsung)
I'm also happy with mine. I'm not happy with the company in general because of the no support thing, but luckily my watch works great (after installing the ensec rom). It's basically an android phone on your wrist..pretty damn cool.
It's a great phone in stand alone mode, but too much for me I wanted something less phone and more watch. I purchased the 1G/8G model.

TS is only workable WATCH SMART PHONE
Unfortunately, I think there is no US version available now! I bought one that seller claims as US version in Chinese TAOBAO, but it is not! I don't have 3G in US, only EDGE. It doesn't bother me too much because you don't have 4G in the last. Although it is not, the watch performance is damn good. The quality of the watch is not damn good but good. It is the best quality I can find in Chinese Market. BTW, the back cover in fact is plastic not metal.
TS is a WATCH, a SMART, a PHONE(WSP). If you need 3 things togehter, TS is the only option now or you need to wait for more than 2 years. I saw WSP in 2012, a Chinese toy named Z1 only work in Android 2.2, pretty slow and bulky. And you can see several advanced versions in KICKSTART recently. Only TS is released!
No need to wait if you have 300 bucks. Such toys will not last 2 years. You can not buy a life-long cellphone. Every 2 years, you always change your mind.

I love mines. Worth every penny.
So glad my Sansdisk HD Class 10 32 gig worked.
9 TS's later, and all have issues. 8 had serious mic issues (512/4, 1/8 US, 1/8 EU) making them useless as a phone. 1 had no mic issues but was completely lacking in seals. Funny part is the a number of the competing devices that somebody essentially called junk, have working companion apps, 4.4, less issues and better QC.
Sold all my 2 watches. No more product from Mr. Romantic Lepeng. I will not buy a single item from omate...
If the idea of having a phone stuffed into a watch is what you want and you can deal with the somewhat poor quality control, poor water resistance, and gaping security holes in the ROM, then the TrueSmart might be for you. Bear in mind that doing most tasks on a 1.5" screen requires patience. Right or wrong, there's a reason that phone sizes have been trending upwards and typing anything on a 1.5" screen is cumbersome.
If you want a companion device to display notifications on your wrist, go with something else like Android Wear. Personally I fall more into this category. I don't want a 1.5" screen running full Android. I don't want to answer phone calls on my wrist. I found the TS to be sluggish and difficult to use to the point that I chose not to use any watch at all versus using the TS.
I Think Dees summarizes it very well. Everyone on Kickstarter has been screwed by Omate in countless ways, but in the end some are still happy with their TrueSmart, for example for sports purposes.

What about the zgpax s5, s6 and s8, and what about the inwatch one & Z and the ec308/9 and the ec408/9 watches and the k8 watch?
Nobody has got standalones right yet. In many respects you are better off grabbing an LG GD910 or Samsung S9110 from 2009 and calling it a day.
i've been appealing to customer service at omate for months, no, over a year to have my truesmart repaired and received no response. the power button stopped functioning after about a month of ownership. which is weird because i never really used that button. no help. screw this company.
They have recently started another kickstarter for the new omate. Oh my God...Good luck to those who participate
.. and now we have the Omate Rise, with a 48 hour promotion on indigogo.
Getting the right set of computer parts, whether for a brand new PC build or an upgrade, involves a good amount of research and most importantly, patience. It is wise to purchase individual PC parts over a period of time which can help you save some money. But as I mentioned, this requires a lot of patience especially if you have been planning to build a new PC for some time.
If I am being honest, there is never a good time to buy computer parts. You might get a new monitor today, but in a few years or even months, it will be replaced by a new model that will be brighter, sharper, have a higher resolution, or even a faster refresh rate.
Yearly sales
One can anticipate a potential drop in price during recurring yearly sales. Amazon hosts multiple sales throughout the year with the biggest one being Prime Day that is usually hosted in the month of June. Similarly, Newegg is also a good place to buy PC parts at discounted rates during their Supreme Tech, and clearance sales. Additionally, Newegg also has Shell Shocker exclusive deals where prices change every day on different types of products. There are also smaller sales on occasions like Valentine's Day, Labor Day, and of course right before the holiday season.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are your best bet if you are looking for the best deals on PC parts. These are the biggest electronic sales where you can expect discounts, deals and price drops on a large range of hardware, peripherals, and other small PC parts. Retailers and sellers often host pre-Black Friday sales for long periods and those are not to be missed.
Having said that, don’t expect price drops on every single component. A lot depends on what you want to buy especially if you are seeking a particular model or a brand. There is a good chance that some component is not even included in the sale or the discounted price is not marginally better than the original cost.

Generational upgrades
This can be very tricky for the layman. However, if you are a PC enthusiast you can potentially capitalize when a newer generation of product is released. For instance, the introduction of Intel’s new 11th-gen CPUs has led to a small drop in the price of the outgoing 10th-gen CPUs. So yeah, it is s good time to get your hands on Intel’s Comet Lake processors.
The most obvious thing to note here is that you are not getting the latest piece of hardware, potentially missing out on a new feature or two. But if you don’t mind using hardware that is only one generation old, then this is a good way to save some money.
This isn’t always the case though, as it was evident when NVIDIA introduced its new GeForce RTX 3000-series last year. The entire GPU market has fluctuated with older generation parts selling at a premium, almost double the cost of their original retail price.
Price trackers
A good way to stay updated with the changes in the pricing of PC parts is by visiting PCPartPicker if you live in the US and PriceSpy if you live in the UK. These websites offer a breakdown of prices for a particular product from a list of vendors. This helps in comparing components, especially older generation models where you can end up saving a significant amount.
There are various external factors that can affect the price of PC parts. The most recent one is the ongoing chipset crisis along with crypto mining that has lead to an increase in the prices of graphics cards all over the world. Today, getting a new graphics card has become next to impossible, let alone getting one at retail price.
With this general chip storage and mining requirements (RTX and hard drive), I would be glad to buy a piece of hardware at MSRP... Not many deals these days...
The best time to buy computer parts? When you can afford them.
There's a bad time?
Haha
After building many PC's over the years starting in the early '90's there is never a good time to buy PC parts. Every last one of them become obsolete before you drive home and start building. This is why I retired from build PC's as I was always in the hunt for the latest and greatest. I have a stack of MB, graphic cards, HDD's, sound cards etc. You can never keep up. The best advice I can give is to buy the most forward looking motherboard and hopefully you'll get a few years out of it.
The best time to buy anything is when you need it, or, when it's in season.
When it's in stock and on sale.
Depends You Planning To LULZ
I got lucky when I built my Mecha-Godzilla PC a year ago, especially for the video card. Turns out I didn't really need one after all but I thought I did at the time, and I feel lucky for paying less than $200 for an nVidia 1650 (overclocked). So video cards were already expensive but they jumped up even more right after that

Just a small note for Canadian aligned part seekers, in relation to pcpartpicker.com - specify ca.pcpartpicker.com or you will at some point forget to make the adjustment and start getting all excited and giddy with the amazing prices that are happening at a time that does not coincide with cyber monday, black friday or the news that quantum computing just rendered all compy tech that is not included in the quantumyummygoodness effectively.. ineffective, the amazing prices are actually in USD and you didnt realize your cache refreshed or you're using a different browser or device - which you will then at least consider smashing a la "Hulk mad" mode. Yes of course it seems sensible at the time. So does fighting Thor. But its not his fault, its yours. May all your future "rodes" be as bumpy as my life since my current upgrade which started on January 23rd, 2021 and ends at some point in the yet to be determined future, I friggen hope.
Why the glum chum?
Amazon. Amazon is the reason for my bumpiness. Due 3x bad MSI B550 Carbon Wifi motherboards, followed by 2x altogether WRONG Gigabyte Wifi Elite z390 INTEL boards which were supposed to be Gigabyte Aorus Master x570 AMD boards, since I already had a Ryzen 5 3600 cpu waiting, and had also paid for at more than double the cost of the wrongfully delivered board - and this is where the inexplicable and nasty starts - at which point I was told that they would offer no other replacements, my only ootion being that once I returned the 5th board <as if I didn't return the first 4 promptly or notify them when they sent me 2 of the same product and returned the extra insulated water bottle as im an honest.. idiot>, they would send the 2 refunds.
They eventually sent back the refund for the Aorus <I had double paid for the first MSI board, and then upgraded to the Aorus Master with my tax return, so at one point was out $700ish to this mess>, but the initial 285.88 that I paid for the MSI Carbon board in January, which bank account by then had been closed for months, <an account that had been closed 3 months without my knowledge - after the first mb purchase made on Jan 23rd > - and this was now August 16th.
Amazon claims CIBC accepted the refund, CIBC said they didn't recieve it, <and still could not locate the refund with transaction codes given to me to take in to the bank so they could track it down>.
Then Amazon made a promise to rectify the issue within 72 hours after making me wait 15 more business days, after which they said 'too bad, we arent going to do anything'.
Thats not even bringing up the fact that I had explained to them that I had JUST been illegally evicted <after 5 years of residence> by the new landlord who wanted to jack the rent way up, like everywhere else during covid, and that I was living in my car <a Coupe no less> with my cat and dog for 2 months and was out of money. I also had a storage unit full of my things, costing me monthly until I could find another apartment.
So, I've had a brand new Phanteks white case, with aio rgb addressable liquid cooling, a new cpu still in box, new white 850 watt platinum plus ps fully modular, killer addressable rail rgbs, 2 sticks of white Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600mhz cl15 ram, new white grouped cables with rgb combs, m.2 512mb nvme pcie 4, corsair dark core rgb mouse, all gathering dust, until it was stolen while someone "helped" me move. I did talk to a buddy of mine, who is the right guy to know, and got it all back, BUT STILL WITHOUT A MB AMAZON. I started a new job, but by the time I backpay covid debt, and save up, itll be obsolete again. oh and i saved up the parts to build it, and did get to use it for a glorious 2 weeks before MSI Carbon board number 2 took a dump. All 3 had flashback bios issues. I spent days and weeks on them trying to get them going again. Never had bios flashing issues that i couldnt recover before those. Im 43, been building my whole life.
Oh, right, my point.. sorry didnt expect all that despite leaving out all kinds of details - I had to stick with my pair of MSI 970 GTXs 4MB Gaming gpus, selling one along with my old rig to afford the new parts because i couldnt find ANY that were anywhere NEAR affordable.
Hence the bumpy rode wishes, but not really obv just jerking around bro, seriously. Glad you got yours before things went full retard.
1st total upgrade in abour 12 years, after mb mods kept my Asus Crosshair V Formula Z relevant, even now. I have pictures of my gloriously short run, during the two weeks, if anyone is interested pm me. Sorry to detract from thread. All 3 24" Samsung monitors, also collecting that figuratively tear stained dust.
What? Fine. Not ALL figurative tears. Stupid covid. Hulk sad.
