I am considering purchasing the Verizon LG G3.
I am currently with Straight Talk with $45/month for unlimited everything (basically 3GB of Data).
What potential prepaid providers work with the Verizon LG G3? Would straight talk activate it? Does Page Plus offer LTE? The Verizon Edge $50/mo for 2GB is tempting.
Thoughts?
Straight talk will not activate Verizon LTE phones. I believe Verizon told them to stop after a few months of doing it. I think you can use Page Plus but personally I like my roaming while prepaid doesn't.
T-Mobile 5gig 100 min $30 SIM and AIO/cricket Smart SIM both work.
I noticed in QPST that this phone has all of the bands enabled... So could you put an AT&T SIM in it and use it as well?

Yes it will work, doing that exactly on my Verizon G3. Just need to input the APN manually. Get full 4g/LTE.
On a related note, I would recommend Cricket (ATT network) as it's cheaper especially if you have multiple lines.

Greetings fellow forum peeps!
I am new to AT&T and the Note and have read so much that it's dizzying, LOL!
I think I am good and know what to do about changing the APN settings, however, I am not sure what to say to AT&T when I call them to set up the plan and activate. I do have an older AT&T cheapy prepaid phone that I bought for $5 late last year. I am under the impression that I should use my new SIM card w/the Note, but first activate the card in my cheap phone? Is this right?
What are the steps to take to activate the prepaid $50/Unlimited plan? Would you mind giving them to me in order of preference?
Also, I've read that some are on the $45/Unlimited Straight Talk plan. Is one better than the other? I was under the impression from talking to the guy at Worst Buy that AT&T may make you purchase a data plan, which I normally would have no problem with but they only offer the $30/500 mb plan.
Thoughts/Suggestions?
I appreciate your time and consideration.
I remember reading that AT&T won't allow smartphones on the prepaid plans. They automatically upgrade you to the lowest monthly plan.
Sent from my AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note using the XDA Premium app.
If you have an at$t branded phone on their prepaid and its a smartphone ...they make you carry some sort of a data plan....
Straight Talk is a better value at around 49 to 51 depending on taxes.

If you have the AT&T Note (four buttons on the bottom), you can't do this. If you have the International Note (One physical button, two soft buttons), you can absolutely do this! I am using it right now.
Do NOT activate the SIM card with the crappy prepaid phone. Just activate it with the International Note using the International Note's IMEI online and you will be fine.
Just curious what kind of speeds are you getting on the international Note on this unlimited ATT data plan? Thanks in advance.

Hi JoshNichols189,
What do you mean by Int'l version? Setting up on AT&T Prepaid? I was told that H20 (an AT&T MVNO) is easy to activate on the AT&T Note.
I also read (on this forum) that it's easy to unlock this device. I was planning on possibly using on Tmobile but I was told by TMO that this device will only work on 2G or Edge, 3G/4G doesn't work on non-TMO phones.
So, it sounds like I am stuck w/AT&T or H20 (BUMMER, unless there are other alternatives???).
So, with that, should I unlock and pray for the best with an Edge connection? I'm looking to spend about $50-$60/month.
I may also try Straight Talk --- if I do, do I have to order the SIM card, or can I simply walk into a Walmart, buy a cheap phone and use that SIM card?
Thanks so much for your advice.
I'll be more than happy to pay small reward/fee (via Paypal) to get some strong/solid advice on setting this up, APN settings and all (PM me).

The International Note is from Europe, which is what I have and am using on the $50 AT&T prepaid unlimited everything plan. I don't think the AT&T Note will work on the prepaid plan, because AT&T can tell what your IMEI number is and force you to upgrade to another smartphone plan. The only reason what I"m doing works is because it is a European IMEI, so AT&T doesn't know it's a smartphone. You won't be able to get T-Mobile 3/4G, but H20 should work just fine if you get an unlock code for the phone and unlock it to work I think Straight Talk is a T-Mobile MVNO, so that won't work either. You should get 3/4G on H20 since it is an AT&T MVNO.

Straight talk uses both ATT network and T-mobile network, they give you a choice to pick a sim card and which MVNO service suits your needs.
I have used both Sim's Tmobile as well as ATT, and i found that speeds on Tmobile network are superior than ATT network when when using Straight Talk sims.
But then again it will depend upon your location.
Get original iphone 2g and activate with your number on at&t which will give you $20 unlimited plan.
Use it couple of days then purchase at&t smartphone from craigslist and goto at&t store, tell them it's gift and you want to use it with your unlimited plan.
You will have $30 unlimited plan on lte, 4g, 3g whatever.
Enjoy.
If you want original iphone 2g, i can rent you one or you can buy one.
I did this and this still works.

Hello,
Since Verizon is hiking up the grandfathered Unlimited plans $20 bucks I am leaving them.
Current idea is to go over to TMobile. I am wondering if I can take my phone over and get Calls, text and Data like normal with the phone on TMobile. I've seen some things that lead me to believe I can only get data.
Phone is currently on JasmineRom.
Thanks
First off, yes, you can.
I use my vs985 on T-Mobile via the $30/month prepaid 5gig 100min unlimited SMS plan. You will need to add in APN settings and change mobile network away from CDMA, but that's not hard to figure out.
I would get a T-Mobile sim while still on Verizon and check it out. You may be in a T-Mobile band12 LTE region, and if so its not going to work for you. I get band4 LTE on both T-Mobile and/or Cricket/AIO with my vs985, but that's about it. T-Mobile coverage is a fairly distant third behind AT&T and Verizon in my area.
Don't forget that your Verizon Unlimited data plan is valuable and that you can sell it on eBay for good money. Check under "Assumption of Liability".
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
TMO Bands, Bold = VS985 has.
2G EDGE: 1900MHz
3G HSPA: 1900MHz, 1700MHz/2100MHz (TMO is starting to refarm this to LTE)
4G LTE: 2, 4, 12
You'll have LTE in major cities, but will fall back to 3G pretty often.

You can't AOL consumer UDP accounts anymore. Only business.
Thanks for the info.
Like xtermmin pointed out you can't do the AOL anymore. And even if I could I believe I would have lost my phone number which I'd lie to keep.
Good to know the G3 will work. It is actually my wife's G3 I will switching over, I just got the Nexus 6P in the mail. She doesn't really care as long as it works lol
There was a thread about this but it just kind of died without any answers. I know the complication with this is that Verizon is CDMA. I was talking with a friend that's a Verizon cell site tech, and he said that all the new sites and small cells are LTE bands 13,4,2 only... no CDMA. Of those 3 bands, the tmobile has 4 and 2. Some, I have read, are able to use their Verizon v10 on tmobile. So I'm wondering, with the fact that the new sites and small cells around me only uses LTE and not CDMA, am I able to use a tmobile v10 on Verizon? Has anyone tried it?

I will soon be testing this. Bought a unlocked tmobile v10 off swappa...gonna try it with my Tmobile prepaid sim to see if I can actually use their service in my apartment....then will try my active VZW sim. According to spec pages i have read, should have the correct bands for LTE for vzw.
Sorta worked. The t-mobile V10 recognized the VZW number and sim. Calls worked (disable Wifi calling and volte). I had to add VZW APN settings, and it connected, and recognized Verizon network, but I could not get a internet connection. Not sure if i had the wrong apn settings or not.
how were you able to edit the apn settings? when i try i get an error, i've unlocked, rooted, deleted the telephony.db nothing seems to work.
Are those places (sites) that you pay to unlock your phone legit? Is it possible to unlock the Verizon version of the G6 so I can use it on T-Mobile or does the Verizon G6 not have the proper bands support?

Verizon doesn't lock their LTE phones. You should be able to drop a SIM card in it and have it work.
I don't know about all the LTE bands though.
I'm on Verizon. Seems everyone I had would work on most carriers out of the box. I had S7 Edge (Verizon) worked on a few different prepaid Sims. I also added a new phone for me and put a dif sim in my old LG Stylus and sent to my son in Boise. And put old sim in my LG G6 and it worked (cause I needed old number in new phone and new SIM went in older phone.
Hopefully that made since haha.
Just remember that the phone/SIM must be in good standing or you will have problems sometimes when activating on major companies. Unless its prepaid SIM you can pop a new one in that's already activated.

I'll have a chance to buy new Verizon LG G6 for cheap, but I'm on AT&T network. Just want to confirm before pull the trigger, do I need a Verizon SIM to activate the phone first then swap with AT&T SIM, or just put in the AT&T SIM would be fine? Thanks in advance!
Put the att sim in, during setup connect to WiFi. After setup input apn settings. Restart the phone. The phone may occasionally inform you that the inserted sim is not a VZW sim. I think that will go away after you disable all the VZW apps.
I have tried different sims but does not recognize the sim. Only recognizes verizon sim. I'm not a verizon customer and where I am at we don't have verzion.
any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Update: Working now. Sim card readers were bent.

Thinking of switching from a tmo baby carrier to one on ATT. What are the highest speed bands you able to get ... LTE, HSPA...?

I'm sorry but where I live don't have Tmobile or Atnt. I was getting 4g LTE with my carrier.
My brother has an iPad pro and on the tablet in the settings he can browse many available plans from verizon, att, tmobile etc. He is able to purchase it and then immediately use the cellular data plan. I specifically like the $20 for 5GB for 5 months plan that he has access to. Do Samsung tablets have similar functionality (probably with esim)?

No. It uses a nano SIM. Find the best deal, get a nano SIM from the provider, and you're off to the races. There are no LTE versions being sold in the U.S. currently and the overseas versions don't work on CDMA so no Verizon and Sprint although they may work on their LTE networks for data because it supports their bands. The dialer and MMS definitely won't work. When the U.S. versions are released they'll be locked to the carrier you bought it from, loaded with their crap on it, the dialer will be disabled, and you can't reflash it using an international ROM because the model numbers are different.

So no phone/SMS/MMS function even if you have the right sim? I was going to look at the T-Mobile tab today but if those functions are disabled why would I want to pay $100 more for a tab with half the storage? I'll just get the WiFi version and run it if need be from my hot spot on my phone for internet access.
You can get genuine LTE versions from E-Bay no problem, why would you buy a 'carrier specific' one that then locks you to that carrier.
Note that, as mentioned earlier in the thread, that the S6 does NOT have an unlocked CDMA version so even with LTE certain carriers won't work.
In the UK using the LTE 256GB S6 with Giffgaff means unlmtd calls and SMS and 8GB data for $12 month, rolling 30 day contract (so no long term commitment). I'm always shocked that my US friends pay fortunes for phone and cable services compared to the UK.
When I travel in the States I use a UK Three sim in roaming mode that allows me to use my UK calls/SMS/Data allowance without any surcharge, still works out loads cheaper then using a US SIM.
