Leaving Verizon for TMobile, can I keep my G3? - Verizon LG G3

Hello,
Since Verizon is hiking up the grandfathered Unlimited plans $20 bucks I am leaving them.
Current idea is to go over to TMobile. I am wondering if I can take my phone over and get Calls, text and Data like normal with the phone on TMobile. I've seen some things that lead me to believe I can only get data.
Phone is currently on JasmineRom.
Thanks

First off, yes, you can.
I use my vs985 on T-Mobile via the $30/month prepaid 5gig 100min unlimited SMS plan. You will need to add in APN settings and change mobile network away from CDMA, but that's not hard to figure out.
I would get a T-Mobile sim while still on Verizon and check it out. You may be in a T-Mobile band12 LTE region, and if so its not going to work for you. I get band4 LTE on both T-Mobile and/or Cricket/AIO with my vs985, but that's about it. T-Mobile coverage is a fairly distant third behind AT&T and Verizon in my area.
Don't forget that your Verizon Unlimited data plan is valuable and that you can sell it on eBay for good money. Check under "Assumption of Liability".

TMO Bands, Bold = VS985 has.
2G EDGE: 1900MHz
3G HSPA: 1900MHz, 1700MHz/2100MHz (TMO is starting to refarm this to LTE)
4G LTE: 2, 4, 12
You'll have LTE in major cities, but will fall back to 3G pretty often.

You can't AOL consumer UDP accounts anymore. Only business.

Thanks for the info.
Like xtermmin pointed out you can't do the AOL anymore. And even if I could I believe I would have lost my phone number which I'd lie to keep.
Good to know the G3 will work. It is actually my wife's G3 I will switching over, I just got the Nexus 6P in the mail. She doesn't really care as long as it works lol

Help with International GS3 in US

For some background, I'm an intermediate Android user (I have a tablet which I tinker with all the time) but a complete noob when it comes to cell phones. I bought the international GS3 with the intention of using it on T-Mobile's Walmart plan, but the radio doesn't seem to be compatible with anything other than edge.
I read the other thread about this and I realize that the only option on T-Mobile is to wait until they refarm their network, but I'm wondering what options there are on other carriers.
First, what networks (other than T-Mobile) are the phone compatible with, on 3G and hopefully 4G?
Second, what is the cheapest unlimited data plan on any of those networks?
Third, when will T-Mobile's refarming hit the northeastern US?
Thank you.
You can use it on AT&T and also Straight Talk with AT&T compatible SIM both will allow you to use HSPA.
Thank you.
What is the cheapest plan with reasonable data (if not unlimited, at least 2 or 3 GB). talk and text on AT&T?
450min voice is $40 + $30 for 3GB data + $20 for unlimited text with unlimited mobile-mobile calling. total is $90 whereas Straight Talk is $45 unlimited everything with I believe 2GB data cap at high speed.
Is there any difference between the two in terms of quality of service? That's a huge price difference.
I havent used Straight Talk but as soon as my SGS3 arrives I am going to try it out. Once I am satisfied I am dumping ATT.

[Q] Does international version work on T-mobile or Verizon?

I just learned that Galaxy S3 US version only has dual core, which is kinda lame. So now I want to know if international version will work on T-mobile or Verizon? Because T-mobile is my carrier now but I may switch to Verizon in the future.

Unfortunately it will not work on Verizon because the international model is GSM and CDMA. It will work on T-Mobile but you will only get 2G.

Thank you. I have done research and it shows verizon is better than t-mobile, att and sprint. Is it true? For example, att and tmobile have fake unlimited data like when you exceed a certain amount they will slow ur speed down.

If you would read some of the threads here you will see that you can use the International version on AT&T with Unlimited HSPA+ Data. No slow downs. All for $10-$15 per month.
Whether Verizon is a better network is all a matter of location, location, location.

HSPA+ is 3G network right? I just personally don't like Att and T-mo cuz I have had bad experience with them. Heard verizon customer service is a lot better and true unlimited data.

Dont even know where you are getting your information. HSPA+ is 4g but not LTE, like others have said it depends on where you live.
Verizon and AT&T do not have Unlimited data anymore for new customers, (you can get the international version can get unlimited data on AT&T with the dumbphone media net plan) Sprint has unlimited data still, the only major US carrier with *true unlimited data*

It really doesn't matter if Verizon's is "true unlimited" as unlimited is only available to those who already have it.
In addition to that, those who have it will be forced to come off of it soon or face inability to upgrade devices at all.

Your statment of Verizon's customer service is a matter of opinion. Years ago when ending my service with Sprint, I made a call to Verizon. The Verizon customer service representative easily convinced me that I didn't want to deal with them too often.
International version will only work great on AT&T, Its GSM not CDMA... therefore it will not work on Verizon ..
It will work on T-Mobile but you will have to settle for EDGE (2G)
HSPA+ is 4G.. you can get like 5-10mbps if your in a good area .. and some can go higher
It all depends on where you live, VZW sucks where I live I can't even get more than 2 bars.. AT&T is the only carrier that I can get full bars and 4G
but vzw might be good where you live. . Or maybe sprint might be better where you live... you just have to ask around or test it out for yourself .. they give you 14 days with a new contract so you can end it and get your money back ..

Where did you get the info that unlimited HSPA+ Data is 10-15 bucks per month? I checked att website, they only have 5GB for 4G for 50 bucks per month.

There are threads on the topic. The International GSIII is not an AT&T phone. So, as far as they know, you are using an old flip phone from 5 years ago. It doesn't require a smartphone data plan. You can get Unlimited MediaNet Data for $10-15 a month depending on other variables on your plan.

The AT&T Galaxy S3 does not have AWS bands for T-Mobile so it will only get EDGE. I am using an international S3 on T-Mobile right now and getting EDGE. I don't care as much because it saves battery and is not the worst thing in the world when I am around wifi all the time and have a hotspot anyways.

See i'd be okay with that but Google voice text messages and calls don't always come through on edge so I need at least 3G lol

[Q] SCH-I545 T-Mobile Switch

Howdy all,
I bought the VZW S4 when it was brand new and am lucky enough to still have an mdk bootloader. But wow vzw is expensive and living in Denver and being a world traveler for work, T-Mobile has peaked my interest with their prices and the international data usage...
I am running hyperdrive 17.1 and the phone is great and running like butter. From what I've read I can get a T-Mobile Sim card, change the APN and voilĂ . But T-Mobile employees say my 4G LTE will go in and out and only work where T-Mobile has certain bands of 4G. The coverage map looks good but I have no idea what band of 4G LTE it is.
My question is if I can flash the T-Mobile version of hyperdrive or another T-Mobile rom onto my mdk vzw s4, change the APN and have a fully functioning T-Mobile S4? Or will it lack certain frequencies and drop 4G often? Anyone who has attempted the switch please feel free to comment on your experience so far. Thank you XDA!

Nothing you flash will add more bands than this phone has, it's a hardware issue, it only has AWS (which T-Mobile uses) and 700c (band13) which (I think only) Verizon uses.
I'm not sure exactly what other (if any) bands T-Mobile uses for LTE
I've got the sane setup in Chicago. I'm not a world traveler but while your her you can expect anywhere from 20 to 33 mbps. You should tell your job to get you a dedicated line w/ tmo.

That's great to hear! Did you flash a T-Mobile rom or just use the vzw rom with T-Mobile APN?
I just want to make sure that I still get a decent connection in most cities, not slugging along at 2g, 90% of the time because its not a T-Mobile phone. If that's the case, I might consider buying a T-Mobile phone, but that hurts the whole argument of ditching vzw to save $$
changed mine to metroPCS...

I changed mine to MetroPCS which runs on the T-Mobile network. the guy at the store did the swap and it runs on the network and 4G/LTE in most metro areas very well, but loses any data connection in remote areas (I live in east-central Wyoming and it only works data in the larger towns here but still gets calls and texts anywhere you get a signal. It will at times toggle between 3G to 4G in some areas. and foxfi will run on it too if you hide the data usage when tethering. hope it helps.

[Q] Prepaid Providers

I am considering purchasing the Verizon LG G3.
I am currently with Straight Talk with $45/month for unlimited everything (basically 3GB of Data).
What potential prepaid providers work with the Verizon LG G3? Would straight talk activate it? Does Page Plus offer LTE? The Verizon Edge $50/mo for 2GB is tempting.
Thoughts?
Straight talk will not activate Verizon LTE phones. I believe Verizon told them to stop after a few months of doing it. I think you can use Page Plus but personally I like my roaming while prepaid doesn't.
T-Mobile 5gig 100 min $30 SIM and AIO/cricket Smart SIM both work.
I noticed in QPST that this phone has all of the bands enabled... So could you put an AT&T SIM in it and use it as well?

Yes it will work, doing that exactly on my Verizon G3. Just need to input the APN manually. Get full 4g/LTE.
On a related note, I would recommend Cricket (ATT network) as it's cheaper especially if you have multiple lines.

Nice, Ill keep that in mind! I have VZW with unlimited talk, text, and data right now, so I dont expect Ill be going anywhere.. lol

Will my Verizon V30 (LG-VS996) have any issues if I switch over to T-Mobile?

I know it's a Global phone and supports a plethora of different network types and data bands but I'm not sure if it's missing any that are specific to TMobile and might not be able get the fastest speeds or other problems.
A good friend has a corporate plan and can add lines for $30/month (includes tax) and it's "unlimited" (supposedly you get throttled only after using 50 gigabytes and only if the tower you're using is too congested). I currently pay Verizon just over $100/month and the few rare places I go where Verizon has better service doesn't seem worth $70 every month.
I paid Verizon upfront for the phone so I don't have to worry about verizon letting me cancel a payment plan since I'm not under any contract (currently on an old school grandfathered unlimited data plan).
I'm just hoping my current V30 will work so I don't have to sell it used at a loss and then buy a new one from T-Mobile.
You will be missing band 71, which is T-Mobile's newest and fastest LTE band. However, that band has not been rolled out officially yet and is only available in a couple of test markets. It should have the bulk of everything else needed to run just fine on T-Mobile's network.
