I cannot boot to download mode, because my boot loader keeps loading. I have a Sprint LG Optimus G (LS970). The way to get to download mode is when off hold vol down + vol up + power. The way to get into boot loader is vol up + power. When I try to enter download mode, it keeps giving me boot loader mode! And the forum for this phone is no help, so that's why I'm asking here.

Download mode is when your turn off the device, hold vol up and plug it into the computer.

Holding vol up and plugging it into the computer does nothing and download mode is when you hold all three and let go of them when the captive lights come on. But it's not working.

If it doesn't do anything, then something isn't working right. That's how you get into Download Mode on the G2 (volume up and plug in).
I'd try different cord, port, or computer.
Edit: Sorry, can't read...lol I thought it said Ls 980. For the 970 you need to do volume up AND down while plugging in.

I have always used the following and never had it fail:
With a device that is turned off:
Hold VolUp + VolDn
Insert USB cable - no need to hit Power
VolUp + VolDn + Power with no USB cable inserted will put you into recovery mode (3e for stock kernels, CWM for custom kernels). Note that you need to let go of Power when the screen turns on but keep holding VolUp + VolDn.
With a device that is turned on, I usually do "adb reboot download".
That button combo works for the i9100 version of the phone.
For the i777 our att version it its
1. Make sure phone is powered off
2. Have the USB cable attached to your computer but NOT your phone yet
3. Hold down both volume up and down (do NOT touch the power button) and plug in your USB to your phone
4. Accept the warning that flashing custom modified software your phone could cause problems
And bingo your in download mode
Or optionally buy our make a USB jig which will put phone intro download mode and reset your binary flash counter.

No problem , thanks for replying anyway
For anyone like me that finds this thread, With my I777 you had to hold power, vol up, and home. Hit accept and then you could plug in.

hi i hav galaxy grand i cant enter download mode becoz the volume buttons are not working .so how can i enter download mode...i want to flash
official firmware to give it to service centre,....help me out plz
Okay, so I think I brainfarted and softbricked my Vibrant. I tried to get it into download mode, but pressing vol up+down only gets me a gray battery icon, not the usual download screen. When I power it up regularly, it goes into bootloop. It's never had a problem going into download mode before, so I don't know if there's a malfunction with the vol buttons or what. I'm otherwise following the instructions for getting into download mode to a T. What else can I do?
Did you pull the battery then hold both volume buttons pop the battery back in then plug the USB cable

Do you have Froyo or Gingerbread bootloaders?
with GB bootloaders hold Volume up + Power for download mode(no need for battery pull or to be conected to usb), also Volume down+Power for recovery.
with Froyo bootloaders do what was listed in the post above.

The GB bootloaders combo worked great. This forum rocks. Thank you so much.
I cannot turn on device, enter recovery, enter download mode (volume down + power), and phone does not vibrate or have any sign of power. Phone was about 60% when I attempted to flash something and it powered down and bricked my phone..

What build were you on? What were you trying to flash, and using what tool?
You can usually recover from interrupted flash attempts by rebooting into the downloader.
You're missing part of the downloader boot. Starting from powered down (best to pull battery), hold down home and volume down. Then hold power. When the phone vibrates, release power but continue to hold volume down and home.
Hopefully you can get into download mode and be able to recover.

I was running a carbon nightly, twrp, and was trying to flash a kernel.
I did what you listed above, but phone does not vibrate..
Try jtag
It shows the logo whenever it has battery power. It cannot be turned off unless the battery dies. After letting the battery die and charging the phone, it immediately shows the logo screen without me touching any buttons.
I cannot put it to download or recovery mode. I have tried holding power + volume down and power + volume up buttons.
Guide I followed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ecovery-twrp-3-2-3-1-galaxy-j6-j610f-t3875150

Looks like it is hard bricked the only option you have is let the battery drain connect it to your PC and hold the button combo for download mode, and keep trying until it enters download mode. And the download mode combo for J series is Volume up + Volume down + insert USB cable

Very nice, now flash TWRP version for your device and you should be good to go.
I tried going through recovery to bootloader, but that does not put me in download mode. Any other tips except Adb. Just thinking about what I can do in a boot loop or brick except wipe.

If you're in recovery mode, you can use ADB to command a reboot to bootloader, which for most Samsung devices opens download mode as well - the screen is just black instead of green.
Getting into bootloader mode via the buttons depends on the device, but the universal method seems to be this:
Power device completely off, wait a minute or two
Hold both Volume + and - buttons, do NOT press Power
While holding Volume buttons, plug in USB cable connected to your PC
Device should start in download mode.
If you press Power, or connect the USB cable before holding the buttons, your device will just power on.
Going into bootloader does not put me into download. I ahead to use Adb reboot download and you can’t use Adb in stock recovery
