Hi Guys,
My Galaxy S2 simply will not send any text messages.
It's a UK phone running on Orange network.
It was fine until last night, when I decided to root my phone.
Used ODIN and flashed with the insecure kernel, then rooted using the S2 Root app, and reflashed with 'I9100XWKE2_Kernel'
Now, whatever I do, text messages simply will not send. I've been in to Wireless and Network settings and enabled packet data etc, but nothing works,
Have I installed the wrong kernel, firmware etc?
Have you checked if your Message Centre Number is right?

Love you!
Never seen this number disappear before! Rooted my previous phone {Desire} and installed 100s of clean install ROMs over and over, odd!
where did it go?...
Have also developed this problem recently (possibly as a consquence of migrating from Litening Rom to Criskelo Rom), but I see people with new phones also have it so that may be unrelated.
I've checked the Settings both in Stock SMS and GO SMS Pro, but don't see an option for Message Centre number anywhere ... am I going blind, looking in the wrong place, or has the setting been moved elsewhere?
As on Criskelo Rom, Android is at 2.3.4.
Any ideas gratefully received ... really do not want to do a factory reset in the hope that it will get fixed ...
thanks.

Thank you for trying to help.
This is what I have:
Settiings:
Message font size
Split view
Background color
Storage settings
Delete old messages
Text message limit
Multimedia message limit
Text message (SMS) settings
Delivery reports
Read reports
Auto-retrieve
Roaming auto-retrieve
Creation mode
Push message settings
Push messages
Service loading
Notification settings
Notifications
Select ringtone
and that's it ...
I tried changing the value via the #*#*4636*#*# menu but it doesn't 'stick'.
thanks.
SMS problems
For those who experience problems with the SMS, probably the message center number has disappeared and displays as Not Set.
Open the SMS app and then press the left soft key Menu> select Settings>select Message Centre and type any of the numbers below in the Message Centre input box (depending on your network provider):
O2 - +447802000332
Vodafone - +447785016005
Orange - +447973100973 or +447973100974
It will sort you out

Just a heads up that this doesn't work on quite a few custom ROMs since they don't have an SMSC setting in the SMS app.
I ran in to this problem when I messed with the "preferred network type" setting in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. The only reason I did that is because my phone was stuck on 2G after upgrading my version of Resurrection Remix and I thought this would help. It didn't, and to be honest none of that menu seems to work properly on this phone. Settings don't stick and messing with them seems to screw stuff up in general, though perhaps I'm just stupid (likely).
My SMSC was then set to 00 and I kept getting an "update error" message when I tried to change it back to the right number. I flashed working backups of previous versions of Resurrection, only to have the problem persist (is this setting held on the SIM, rather than on the phone?) and even tried flashing to an old GB version of Lite'ning, still the problem persisted.
In the end I flashed back to stock Samsung ICS, and the SMS app in that ROM has a setting for SMSC when you press menu key -> settings. It was really annoying having to flash back to stock just to fix it, but I assume any ROM based on the stock Samsung version of ICS (rather than AOKP or CM9 based ROMs) will have this setting in the SMS app.
Just a tip for those not on stock Samsung based ROMs, I was tearing my hair out trying to fix the SMSC setting and thought this tip might be helpful.

I have the same problem, but nothing seems to work. After I flashed Resurrection 2.6 sms just stopped working. I flashed stock ICS. Same. I wiped everything I could wipe. I flashed other 3 ICS stock roms. Same problem. Flashed Paranoid Android ROM, now I'm back for the stock. The message Centre nr is correct, I tried *#*#4636#*#* and the SMSC code is correct there as well, but it is still not sending SMS. I am reaching my limit... I don't know what to do! I feel like I have tried everything...

Try flashing a complete older official firmware package then flash back to the latest using Kies?

Tried it. Flashed official carrier branded GB. Kies upgraded to ICS official soft. Upgrade worked, but it's still failing every sent text message. Again, checked and the message center number is correct, everything else works perfect, it's like a new phone, but with no possibility to send text messages. I have rooted and installed custom ROMS for years now on so many android phones with no problem, this is just ridiculous...
same problem.....
with go sms i can send messages, with stock message application doesn't work.
And i have succesfully configured the SMSC value
Check your carrier, I've had same exact problem and even went back to Gingerbread and upgraded to ICS officially. My carrier did something, elevate it past the customer service reps.

SOLVED!!!
I solved it! I walked into an Orange Shop and the girl checked their servers and there was a problem from the network. She reset something and then it worked with no problem. It took 2 minutes to solve! I flashed so many roms for nothing. Well, back to AOKP now... I'm happy!
Hi,
I recently acquired this galaxy S after my HD2 stopped functioning. When I got it, it had Cynaogenmod on it; however, I wanted MIUI. So, I reverted the phone to stock configurations and loaded MIUI on there.
I used the methods posted in this thread and loaded the revamped SS-6 MIUI rom (I tried all the way up to SS-8). I later found that this was an outdated method and used the suggestions made by the rom creator. Both times I loaded the OS successfully. Unfortunately, the data wasn't working. It showed that I was connected and had full bars with 3G or H connection... but all apps that required data still failed to connect.
I always got a message saying "Data connectivity problem: Server failed to communicate. Please try again later." So, I reverted the phone back to stock JFD using ODIN. I still have the data issue -- nothing connects. The bars are still full and the 3G symbol is still there... it just won't work.
The phone info is:
Model Number: SGH-T959
Firmware Version: 2.1-update 1
Baseband Version: T959UVJFD
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build Number: ECLAIR
The "Mobile Network Type" reads "HSDPA" and the "Mobile Network State" reads "connected".
Just to clarify, I can still text and call. I just have no data. Wifi works. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated; I'm completely stumped here. Thanks!
You saw the answer in the other thread, right?
Nope, I've been looking for an answer. Is there a thread that has a solution?
The one titled: "Miui completely ignores Data settings". It's a problem with the latest MIUI.
Check out the second post in the GingerZen thread. Follow the steps and ODIN using Eugene's Froyo That Does Not Brick. It should give you a fresh start. As a bonus, it re-roots your phone in the process. Note: only check re-partition for the second flash.
Awesome! Thanks, I'll try it. So, I just use the PIT file that comes with vibrant AIO?
You could grab the one from s15274n's "Noob Guide" too.
Then save all 3 files on your desktop for the next time you have to ODIN.

Your APN settings are screwed up. You'll need to reset your APN settings. Do not go flashing random software to fix your APN settings.
Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I followed the steps, but I'm still experiencing the data failure. :-\
I expected that to restore all settings. Google the correct APN settings as suggested. Hope that's it.
(But keep the EFTDNB files handy. They aren't exactly random and will usually get you out of a bind.)
I'm pretty sure I have the correct APN settings. At least, they seem to match what everyone else has posted. I noticed that the arrows around the data symbol (3G or H) only light up on the left side. This to me seems to show that I'm sending data; I'm just not receiving it.
Edit: Solution Found! It was on T-Mobile's end. Apparently, the data package from my HD2 was not compatible with this device. So, they set me up with the "Android equivalent" and "presto!", it works. Thanks for all the assistance!
Hi all,
I own an i9100T device. I know that basically the roms are compatible between i9100 and i9100T, but I'm just pointing that out as my question is related to calling.
Sorry for posting this CM11 related issue here, but apparently I can't post to the discussion in the dev forum yet.
I tried to flash CM11 latest nightly this Friday, the installation was okay and so the booting afterwards and the installation of the apps, but for some weird problem, I simply can't make any phone calls.
After dialing, I simply see the call window pop up and simply stay there without any call initialization (I've checked that with a friend) or any calling sound.
I must say that data is working (I can send and receive whatsapp messages for example), wifi is working and I receive signal from the network (I also tried to flash another modem, no good).
I don't know anything about regular SMS messages, haven't tried that.
I've tried to flash CM10.2 back then and had the same problem, and reverted back to stock.Thought it's just a glitch which will be fixed in the future, but it seems to appear in CM11 as well.
Thanks in advance,
A.
I installed Cyanogenmod 11 on my phone and I've been having nothing but problems with APn settings and not being able to send MMS.
I keep getting No APN specified on device and I can't send MMS messages.
I've reinstalled the rom many times reseting factory settings and wiping dalvik cache.
I've tried using APN backup and restore app to backup from stock rom and restore the apn settings to CM 11..
Nothing is working
I'm about to give up and find another rom..
And now for some reason I cant even access the APn settings in CM11.. The menu option isnt there..
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Its a CDMA phone and my carrier is Cricket Wireless its the 3g CDMA plan Galaxy S3 before they merged with aio and now use GSM phones and new plans..
CM 11 - 11-2014078-SNAPSHOT-M8-d2lte
If no one has any suggestions can anyone recommend a good bug free fast and clean rom?
Thanks.
UPDATE:
I've since tried installing Carbon Rom and same issue there.. I can't send MMS messages. Keeps saying no APN specified on device..
I tried looking up Crickets apn settings and entering them manually but every time I change the MNC? setting the APN just vanishes.
I tried just leaving that field alone and just setting the rest but I still couldnt send MMS messages..
I'm going crazy here..
I rooted my phone and now Im stuck on 4.1.2 unless I use a custom rom as rooted my phone wont let me update the stock rom..
I really liked both Cyanogen and Carbon my phone ran AMAZING compared to stock but without MMS messages and constant APN error popups I can't take it...
Any ideas?
How's it going I recently rooted my lg v10 first time I've rooted a phone since the galaxy s3 I've always liked cyanogen mod I was originally on mm I rooted it and the root worked good except if I put a mm ROM on it I can make and receive calls but no data or MMS msgs ,I've had all the same result's with resurrection ROM and cyanogen mod 13, I went and tried cyanogen mod 12.1 and instantly after installing I had data and phone calls worked ..except I kept getting a random black screen glitch where I would have to remove the battery to restart the phone..I don't really care about getting the 12.1 to work but I would like to be on a mm ROM with working data has anyone had this issue and even better has anyone found a fix thank you who ever has any input
Wow, everything packed into one sentence. I had to read it three times before I understood your problem (I think).
Is it so hard to write more than one sentence to make it easier for people willing to help?
Regarding your problem: have you checked the APN settings? A missing APN is the main reason for not having a data connection.
I do have the correct APN settings. I also went into the strore and they put the APN settings in and had the same results
the cm roms for this phone currently have data issues even with the correct apn settings.
