Hello there. So here is my problem. I tried to root my note tab(8.0 gt-n5110 on kit kat) using odin and it was unsuccessful. Ive deduced that there is no official root for the 8.0.... I could be wrong but I'm pretty. Idk jew to this whole thing..... anyhow... unsuccessful root.... and I cant figure out how to un root and I cant find any spcific/clear instructions on how to fix this for my exact model(too afraid to follow steps for diff note models) SuperSu is installed but whenever I try to open it it says the app has stopped. I no longer wish to root even id it is possible. I just want to go back to normal.... if someone could reply with a clear step by step on how to fix this I woild be in your debt. Thanj you
Why give up on root just because the first time didn't work? But anyway, unless you modified the recovery, the SuperSU app being installed doesn't change or hurt anything. You might just go to the Play Store and see if you can update the app. Depending on which method you used you can just uninstall it via the Application Manager in Settings or the Play Store. If it was installed as a system app then you can just disable it via the Application Manager and no harm done. If you really need to restock (you don't) then this would be a guide:
http://androidromupdate.com/2014/06...-n5110-official-4-4-2-kitkat-update-firmware/
Thank you got your prompt response. The answer to your question about why not try root again.... I work in market research and I sometimes do product testing so I will have to eventually give this back one day so I just don't want to risk it. Also after attempting the root my tablet started like flickering and not staying on for to long unless attached to charger and then when that finally stopped I went to open Google chtome app and got a page saying something to the affect that Google was being hacked into our something like that and totally freaked me out so in this instance not worth it for Me. I have had a rooted android device (galaxy s4) and I do love all the mods and endless benefits to root so I do understand why you would question. Again I thank you and I'm going to be trying out your suggestions here in just a moment.

Hello!
I did something really stupid. I rooted my Vibrant, and all was super easy and fine, but my home button was being unresponsive so without thinking enough did a reset on my phone. I wanted to make sure I covered my bases so I downloaded Titanium Backup and "backed up" all of the important things....call log, contacts, browser history, etc. etc. then did the master reset, but I don't think it worked. So now that I have done the reset it gives me force close messages on all of the main functions of the phone....dialer, web, you name it. Plus my home button still isn't working :/
So, the way I see it I have two options; risk sending the phone back to t-mobile under the guise of the home button issue....and maybe pay dearly for it (Superuser is still in the apps)
OR....
Hope and pray in the power of the XDA Gods, at least in order to get this to the workable category.
Thanks for any advice!
Are you able to get to the "Terminal Emulator" without it FCing?
You could boot into Clockwork Recovery and flash eugene's STOCK rom to see if that fixes anything.
hmmm, there's only the superuser and then the preinstalled apps. i did the one click root, so maybe that was missing the terminal app?

No its not missing, the "one click" just does rooting for you. You have go to into the market and download the application "Terminal emulator," if you're able to get that then you can unroot yourself and exchange your phone without T-Mobile ever finding out that you rooted. Or you could try flashing a stock ROM with Clockwork Recovery
got it! unfortunately though, every time i click market i get the force close :/ Meanwhile, I downloaded the clockwork recovery, but I'm definitely new to this, so where would I wanna go from there?
Thanks a lot by the way

Get Terminal Emulator as well; where do you want to go from now? You want to try to troubleshoot this problem or just unroot the phone and exchange it
Edit: Figure ill just make it easier.
If you want to troubleshoot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7329357&postcount=2 is what you're looking for. Follow those instructions and your problems will most likely go away.
To unroot
Code:
su
rm -r /system/app/Superuser.apk
rm -r /system/xbin/busybox
rm -r /system/bin/su
Also remove apps that require root access.
Either one will do the trick. I would go with troubleshooting, the directions are simple. If it doesn't work then.. unroot and make sure that all the bloatware is there + no root applications so they wont be able to tell.
Here dude. It seems you can not download terminal emulator from the market, so here it is with the root file for good measure. Only thing is I hope you have a way to download it and get it to your phone. Gl, and let me know if you need any more help.
Just making sure we're on the same page.....so you meant to install clockwork on my computer right?
My market FC's every time i try to go in there.
Any way that I can at least get this guy to fly in under the warranty inspection radar and be functional is the way I'm wanting to go. should i attempt to load the files from the clockwork program into my phone? Sorry I'm so fuzzy on this.

If you can follow directions good, this post should solve your problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747634&page=2
Hey bro, here is a simple fix.
Download ROM Manager which I attached below and install it. Within ROM Manager you will have a option to install Clockwork, so go ahead and install in through ROM Manager. ( Clockwork gets installed on your device ). Then follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740077 to download a stock Vibrant Rom. Follow the instructions on how to install the ROM, and you should be good.
Forgot permission for "unknown" in superuser app
Ok, so I accidently tapped forget for the "unknown" in super permissions and now when I try to type su in adb shell it says access denied. Any help?
I ve tried about 4 imulaters none will open.then I thought I had found the aswers to one of my issues, getting terminal imulator to work. But after ive installation and reboot just for good measure. I get the message that I cant install apps connected to the market. Im thinking maybe I should try unrooting and resetting the imei. Is there another way?
if youre getting a lot of fc errors, then odin back to JFD. make sure to use the .pit and .tar files. you'll be on official stock. then you can root/ update to official. anyway, its never a bad idea to go back to complete stock after major errors.
I tried this emulater su removal thing but it said that none of those fials exist. I am clearly rooted with su. Could it have something to do with my 17 digit imei cant seem toswitch back?
No and you seem to be pretty clueless to what they are suggesting you do. The easiest way to fix most problems with FC. Are using Odin to flash the OS back to stock. Several guides in the bible. Look under android development for the vibrant bible.
Maybe I should elaborate my issues so I dont seem so clueless, I dont have sync! I have tried kies, and odin but does didly squat w/o sync.
I dont have market access or OTA support. I just got back terminal after about 15 tries.
So im basically try to see which I get first; unrooted or stock reset. All of which seem to have some OTA necesity unless I can find a complete APK or termina access deal. Yea im a noob to
If your going to do anything to your phone such as rooting you need to download odin. There is a tutorial in the dev section under the vibrant bibal. Odin will restore your phone back to stock like it was out of the box. There are plenty of ppl willing to help on these forums so if you run into problems just ask. Every time I thought I screwed up my phone odin has saved my life.

Hello guys. this is the first time i have ever posted on a forum and i really need help. i have rooted my samsung epic 4g with the samsung one click lag fix and ran titanium backup and installed titanium backups busybox. i backed up then deleted amazon mp3, email 2.1, facebook, asphalt5, sprint nascar, sprint football, media hub, task manager 2.1, sprint hotspot, SNSAccount 1.0, y!finance clock, and sprint zone. first problem is i cant reinstall these items that are necessary to do the MR 2.5 DI18 system update from titanium backup, and a factory reset does not restore these items either. so i was going to unroot the epic and it will not unroot either. it will not unroot with the one click lag fix unroot method or another one click unroot tool i downloaded. so i guess my question is, how do i restore these stock sprint apps and unroot my epic 4g? any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks for reading!
Hi
Can you tell me the steps u followed to root the epic. I wanna play with it for some time....
Mithun
sure. there is a youtube video that just got posted a while ago that used almost the exact same steps as i did. go t oyoutube and type in root samsung epic. it is the video that is 7:07 long. the steps he took are almost identical to my own. so close in fact that i cant remember where they differ. then i proceeded to install titanium backup and backed up EVERY app on my phone including sprints bloatware like sprint football nascar and sprint zone. then i uninstalled all of them through titanium backup and now cannot restore them for the di18 update. i tried to use the unroot tool in the root pack .rar file and it just came up with an error message. if you have any other questions please ask, and if your trying to help me i REALLY appreciate it. the di18 update has a few bug fixes i reay want. any info or other questions that need an immediate response can be emailed to [email protected] thanks for your help everyone
ok guys. i found out i can flash the stock rom with odin. i found another post here on xda developers on how to do it. so thanks everyone for all your help and thanks to everyone that made odin and contributed to development! you guys rock. and if i had more money i would totally buy you all a beer.
I rooted my Samsung Epic last Friday using the one.click.root.exploitv2.3.0. Then installed Wifi Tether and launched it. Everything worked great. I was able to connect my laptop and browse just fine. I need the feature this weekend for an event so tonight I tried to launch Wifi Tether and it would not launch. I reinstalled with no success...error was "could not start tethering". I decided to install Barnacle Wifi. Got it installed and when I tried to launch it the app told me I needed su access and access was denied. I have the Superuser icon in my apps and it loads.
So I attached the phone to my pc and tried to unroot using one.click.stock.flasher.&root.uninstaller-di18. When I follow the steps the command prompt hangs. I check adb devices and the device is shown but nothing happens. So I tried the sdk tools option to unroot manually. First step is to type adb shell. I did that and nothing happens. I have the phone in USB Debugging mode. If I unplug the phone the command prompt then shows error: protocol fault <no status>.
I need to find out why I don't have su access anymore. I can't get to the point of typing su in the command prompt window to verify...everything hangs. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as I need to get my tethering fixed.
Thanks

I'm a little lost when it comes to this stuff. I am unable to unroot my Samsung Epic also. Did flashing the stock rom with odin allow you to unroot it? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I am trying to unroot my Epic so I can take it back and am getting close to my 30 day return window.
I followed some youtube video to root it and it all seemed to work fine (I don't remember exactly what one I followed). But I am now unable to unrroot. I have tried a couple different sets of instructions and nothing works. I have even tried doing a restore and that didn't do either.
I struggled like I was trying to last a long time with my first encounter with my first girlfriend. I tried all kind of techniques thinking of rooting while I was in the act, side loading my attention, direct adb insertion, and many times I would make it through to or three steps only to be rejected by her.
I finally found, what I believe to be the best and easiest method of rooting and unbranding. I don't know who could mess this up, although try at your own risk.
this is only instructions on how I rooted, I take no credit for the applications and resources
I downloaded the file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907
ran only step one in boot mode, this only needs the seus drivers, no other drivers needed.
go onto boot load and quickly start step one. when it is done, reboot, set up, go to settings applications and check of unknown sources. Now grab the one click root apk found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7913568&postcount=338.
put the apk in a folder on your sd card, use any explorer to go to the apk and click, install, presto you are now rooted. Don't forget to get superuser from the market.
If you have trouble getting internet data, just go to wireless controls, mobile networks, auto internet settings.
Hope this helps the tons of people that get stuck rooting like I did.
Not at home, can't try it.
Has anyone already?

If you're just rooting all you need is the app, if you're debranding run step 1 in flash mode, but you then need to then run SEUS to update the software. If you wanna do both do the above in reverse order.

dude you've got serious issues. anyways glad that it worked for you but to be honest, WTF???
First of all, I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong section. Secondly, please be aware right now that the device in question is the S3 4G VERSION. Very different to the vanilla S3. I have dabled in rooting/flashing and general messing around with android firmwares before so I have a mild understanding but please be patient
Now the problem: Rooting. It shouldn't be hard. Should it? Not with tools like chainfires auto rooting kit these days... Alas, CF's auto root isn't doing it for me. At first I was having dramas with KNOX (congrats on loosing a long time customer there samsung). After i got rid of that with the de-samsungizer kit flashed through CWM it stopped showing the stupid "an application has attempted to gain root access and was blocked" crap. However SuperSu continued to crash, I'm assuming because the root was not properly completed. NO error codes or anything are ever returned from Odin, or CWM, everything looks like its happy but just not rooting. Confirmed with rootchecker.
Now a couple of other things I should mention: CWM keeps getting erased or something aswell? Like I'll turn the phone off to go into recovery mode, and im sitting at the bone stock one again, with the little red exclamation mark over my poor android corpse D:
I even tried disabling auto-reboot in ODIN when flashing CF's auto root, droppping the battery and manually starting recovery mode. I get excited when I see the red pirate-droid executing instructions, all goes well, everything is happy, still no root -_-
EDIT: In download mode, knox still exists and has logged EVERY attempt i've made. so everything is definitely executing just fine...
This is also my first time rooting in the presence of KNOX
I don't know what else to do... Am I missing something? is there a glaringly obvious thread or bit of information I've missed?
Thank you in advance for any help provided.
Ok so I took a break from this for a while cos i got really busy and didn't fancy doing MORE work on my phone when i finally got a spare tic. However, I came back to it today and managed to find a magic combination.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKING YOUR DEVICE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CRY IN A PM ABOUT IT THOUGH I COULD DO WITH A LAUGH.
The following is a guide for anyone having issues making the root stick on their GT-i9305 samsung galaxy s3 4G/LTE on android 4.3. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ON ANY OTHER OS VERSION, VARIANT OR DEVICE.
I noticed a particularly important piece of information in the following link: How to Fix Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Rooting Problem for Galaxy S3/S4/Note 2/3 - W0lfDroid
A superSu update. So i went there grabbed that package ( SuperSU Download for update package ) and started my grand master plan. If you would like to actually read what hte user said yourself, its in a quote bubble naer the bottom, just before the comments.
now. Using an important piece of information in a thread I cannot, for the life of me, find through my browser history (apologies) I grabbed a copy of pihlz touch which you can find in the following thread: [CWM][PhilZ Touch][GT-I9305] 4.00-b21 Touch … | Samsung Galaxy S III I9300, I9305 | XDA Forums
Now. grab yo-self a copy of busybox's supersu root How to root Galaxy S3 I9305 with SuperSU 1.02 - Samsung Update located on that page. Make a folder on both your phone's internal storage and external, name them both the same thing and something you will remember. For instanceI called mine Root stuff. I only do folders on each of them in case I can't extract from external for whatever reason, its not necessary. Put both the supersu update you downloaded earlier and the one you just downloaded from above, busyboxes root, into both of these folders if you did it my way.
To avoid having to reboot your phone an extra time, make sure you did the above step BEFORE moving on
First up, I flashed philz touch with Odin (ensure you have the latest version, use your PDA checkbox and be sure that auto reboot and F. reset time are checked). Next up, turn your phone off and boot into your magnificent (no seriously, this is amazing. Its like a GUI in todays BIOS's...) new CWM recovery mode. Go into advanced and hit reset permissions or something like that... My phone is downstairs atm and I CBF in going and getting it and rebooting. Note that I am unsure if this is actually an essential part of the process, this is something I did because I worried about the permissions on the phone after my, by KNOX's count, 15 attempted flash operations -_- More like freaking 20 thousand....
Now once you have done that, go back to the main menu and tap install zips. FIRST you select the actual root, supersu1.02 busybox. Next, select the extra zip file option and que the UPDATE supersu-v2.02 after the actual root package. Once you have done this, swipe to install. THESE TWO PACKAGES MUST BE IN ORDER!!!!
Thats all I did. My phone rebooted and I was able to use Root checker to conform the root, allowed access to supersu and no crashing. Finally. THat was way too hard.
Thank you for hosting the website gentlemen/ladies where we can all come and share knowledge.
all credits go to anyone/webpage I linked people to and the brilliant programmers that made the packages. And finally, a HUGE thanks to Google and Linux (from which android is based) for freeing us from the shackles of iOS.
Alright XDA Community. I need some help. Desperately. So I had plans on rooting my tablet (TF201) to install a custom ROM. Being that I have version 4.1.1 installed I would looking for something a little newer and modern. That did not go as planned from the beginning. Since the first step was rooting it, I looked for a ROM. So I searched the web, including XDA and found KingRoot to root my device. Either KingRoot was a terrible choice or something did not go right with the process. Now when I turn on my device I get random pop ups for for stupid garbage that I don't want installed like What's App and UC News. Everything functions as it should but I get random messages that Settings stopped working. I get random apps being installed on a regular basis. I could be in an app and I get a blank / black box on top of something trying to open or install. This very frustrating and I am completely over my head now. So here is what I would love help with;
1. I would like to UNROOT my device to ALL stock settings and firmware. Completed
2. I would like to ROOT my device PROPERLY. Completed
3. I would like to install a custom ROM with Android 6.x or 7.x (Something plain and vanilla)
4. I would LOVE this help if at all possible in plain English Step by Step with pictures if possible. I would like it dummy proof.
Thank you very much for any and all help. It will be very much appreciated.
PS. I do not need to back anything up. It was a fresh reset recently and I do not have anything to backup.
Step 1 is complete. I used Kingo Root to UNROOT my device.
Step 2 is complete. I used Kingo Root to ROOT my device.
Have you unlocked the bootloader using the Asus supplied software?
NP
No. I downloaded it and installed it but when I go to run the APP it asks for my Google Credentials but it does not accept them. I use the credentials every day so I know my username and password but it does not work.
Delete you google account then run the bootloader unlocker again.

Thank you very much. That did the trick. Here is the problem though. I think I am way over my head on this. I did a Davlik Wipe and a Factory Reset but there is something still not right. I did both a Dalvik wipe and Factory reset last night before bed. I did not touch it once complete but on a regular basis I get pop ups about Android System stopped working or UC News. I cannot get rid of either of these on my tablet.
Any idea what I can do?
Now that you have the BOOTLOADER unlocked next step is to ROOT the TF201, I used MOTOCHOPPER. Check out this thread;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230763
NP
That worked. I was able to Root my device without issue. Actually that was a great tool. Nice and easy to work with.
So here is my next stop. What ROM do I pick? I was looking at 6.x or 7. It looks like KatKiss is pretty good but I am not sure.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-prime/development/rom-katkiss-nougat-t3459313
No reason not to go straight to 7.1.2 just make sure you flash the correct TWRP.
NP
And this is the part I don't understand. I have downloaded TWRP and ROM Manager from ClockWork. I have copied the ZIP folder to my SD card and placed it in my TF201. From here I don't know what to do.
I follow the instruction from 5.1 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-prime/development/rom-katkiss-5-1-tf201-22-t3080892
using the 7.1 files from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-prime/development/rom-katkiss-nougat-t3459313
NP
Yeah. So now the tablet is stuck at the Asus Splash Screen. Been for the last 48 hours or so. I completely drained the battery but when I filled it back up, no difference.
Can you get into the TWRP recovery console?
NP
Nope. I can't do anything with it. I have power cycled it many times over holding different buttons but no difference.
