How to make usage of a s3 with broken display? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
i just found my old s3 i9300. the problem is that the display is broken, if turned on, it does not even light up the backlight of the lcd. the phone itself turns on, i can use the phone as a usb mass storage and the keys light up when i press the power button.
i searched on the internets for a lcd display but it seems to be expensive and hard to fix. but before i throw it away i thought maybe i can use it to give my TV a nice interface, if i am able to mirror the screen via mhl or something. would that work?
best regards

you can buy an mhl cable for connect your S3 to TV or monitor with HDMI interface...it should work

[Q] MHL being wierd and OTG crashing phone

ive had my MHL cable for over 2 weeks now and its got the official samsung logo - and i got it from suntekstore... only problem is i havent got it working...
ive tried with my dads stock 2.3 i9100 on a viewsonic monitor and samsung tv
same with my 4.0.4 i9100 resurrection remix 1.7 + siyah 3.1.2
the other two items i got from suntekstore were 2 OTG adaptors which fail to work... (i also have one that does work from another store) so i think it might be the MHL adaptor itself
yesterday i was frustrated and kept plugging my phone in and out of the samsung tv.... and BAM i got a visual =S after like 10 'no signal' and 2 resolution not supported... but the screen was stuck in portrait... thats the closest ive come to using MHL properly!
on top of that... when i use OTG keyboard connection... the phone freezes if i try pressing caps lock to check for power on my phone! any one else running same OS version and its working?
When successfully connected via MHL the S2 will display in portrait, so that was normal. Apps that run in landscape will do so when run, or where sensor orientation works, like in photo gallery etc, you can rotate it to landscape yourself.
No, as for your issues regarding getting the picture to stay on; first, you did have the Samsung Charger plugged into the MHL cable right, and the correct output channel selected on your tv?
Assuming you did for both the above, the problem is likely with your hdmi cable, not the tv's. Have you tried using different cables? I have a problem with one of my hdmi cables where the screen goes black for a few seconds whenever it pleases, with another cable (which comes with the sky box), it stays on all the time. So try changing cables and see what kind of response you get.
Also, some users have mentioned that they seem to get picture when they put their phones into flight mode first, I've never needed to do this, but give it a go and see what happens. Once you've got your picture up, you can use your tv's remote the control your S2, assumming your tv supports that function.
Hope that helps
I have not tried that rom but last I heard any source based rom doesn't have a working MHL output. I don't know the status at all of OTG on source based roms.
You said you tried it on your dads stock phone but didn't clearly state if it worked or not which it should if the phone is stock. So use that as a basis of if the adaptor is broken.
thanks guys - yeah it could be the hdmi cable... they are pretty cheapo - but on seeing 2 OTG adapters from the same store dont work... the MHL being broken cant really be a coincidence? it was in delivery for over 1 month =[ maybe someone broked it! lol
I think in the end it was the MHL adaptor... ive got a replacement sent out as now the phone wont even recognise power to charge when plugged into the mhl however the charger directly into the phone works! argh may be a long wait for the replacement took 30 days to get my other shipment! may have to resort to a more expensive one

HDMI as primary display

Basics. I have a Coby MID-7042 tablet. The touch panel cracked on it so it is useless and cost to much to get fixed. With that said I am now using the tablet as an Android TV. I have hooked the tablet up to my HDMI TV and am using a mouse on the USB port to control the tablet. The thing is I am thinking of ripping the tablet apart and removing the screen and battery and other items. The thing is if I remove the LCD screen then I cannot get into recovery if needed and I cannot see the system booting on the HDMI connection.
Is there any way to force the HDMI connection to be the primary or will this happen naturally when the LCD panel is disconnected?
Since Android is Linux shouldn't there be a value somewhere that allows the selection of what screen is the primary. I know this can be done since there are quite a few Android TV boxes out there that use the HDMI connection as the primary display.
If you can help at all that would be great!
Thanks

troubleshoot sinked phone without screen

Hi,
My brother dropped his Archos Diamond in a bath...
The screen doesn't work but when I power on the phone, it vibrates.
I'm not sure it's the screen so I don't want to buy a 50$ screen for nothing
Because maybe it's the screen connector, or another component before that.
I entierly disassembled the phone, but nothing looks bad.
It seems I can't use Android Control to see the phone screen on PC
Because he didn't enabled USB debugging, except if I can flash it with a rom that has it enabled but I don't know where to find that.
Is it possible to connect a screen not made for this phone if it has the same connector ? Are LCD connectors standard ?
Any ideas ?

Tab S6 SM-TM860 wire to external screen?

Hi,
Cross posting from Repurposing old devices...
My Galaxy Tab S6 screen is completely shattered and dead. Replacement screens are hard to come by or in the region of $250 - $300 which is a bit pricy. Is there any way I could connect the tablet to an external display to repurpose it almost as an android all-in-one or am I stuck with a paper weight? Any help appreciated.
What sort of external screen? You could obviously connect it to a TV or computer monitor simply with a USB-C to HDMI adaptor although the digitizer would need to be functional to register touch inputs.
Use a bt mouse
and run in DEX mode.
No luck
Thanks all, but no luck. Bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter and connected to monitor. Tried reset (Power + Vol down). No output to screen.

How badly damaged is the screen, can you tell the tablet is actually functional? Because there's no reason I know of why it wouldn't work - My Tab S6 works fine on my UHDTV via USB-C to HDMI and the adaptor is nothing special, it only cost me circa £5. Might be worth trying a different adaptor if you're sure the Tablet is functional.
The one I bought was the silver one from this eBay listing...

Tried a USB-C to HDMI + a Dell USB-C docking station. No display with either option. Left the tablet to charge overnight and get the vibration and charge sound when I plug it in. Other then this, no way to know if it is working. Screen completely shattered and dead.

Yeah, if you're getting the charging sound then it's safe to assume it's booting. Might be worth trying the adaptor I posted? The cost is very little and I've used it so it's definitely compatible.
