[Q] How to just update an apk in ROM pack?

Hi all,
I'm new here. May I ask what are the minimal necessary steps to replace an apk with updated one in a ROM image?
(e.g. If I want to replace the google map in a ROM file with latest version)
Thanks alots!
A newbie developer
N.B. I tried to replace the apk directly in the ROM .zip but it reported errors during verification in installation. There should be some checksum updates in certain files in the ROM and signings steps I omitted.
you only need to replace the APK.
what kind of error appears in logcat?

After replacing this APK you have to resign this zip. Try Android Commander to sign thiz zip.
Another more "direct" way to sign update files (or apk/jar files if they need signing) is using the Win-sign.zip from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629151
Look at the README and sign.bat inside for how to use it, its quite simple.

[Q] Theme installing problem since 4.1.1 update

Since the official update to 4.1.1 vrtheme zip and morph zip themeing methods will not work in the way they did.
If Ii put the themed xml and png files in the vrtheme folder or in the morph folder as with previous versions of ICS such as 4.0.4 then flash the updates they don't work it just returns a message saying there was an error with the file.
If I put the actual APK's into the system folder then run the zip file the same way the theme install.
Has anyone else had this problem and solved it, or is there something that needs changing, I am using the same zip files for flashing that I have alwasy used, just replaced the xml's and png that I am theming to work on JB

[Q] Unknow ROM directory for kitchen

Hi guys! I own a Doogee Valencia DG800, a chinafone with a stock rom. For many reasons I've decided to customize my ROM, and teak some little bugs from the original ROM. So, I've dowloaded the original ROM .zip file installed in my device, and placed in the directory of android kichen called "original_update". The problem comes when I try to setup the working folder for the rom, I recive the following message "Error: No Rom's found under original_update folder!", and this doesn't allow me to cook the rom. But I've noticed, that the rom that I've downloaded has not the classical ROM directory with build.prop folder, system forlder, etc... To makes things more understandable, I've attached a screen with the directory of my ROM.
So what can I do to make recognize my rom into Android Kitchen?
Thanks in advance.

Flash light app

My HTC One X+ is O2 UK branded and I was surprised to discover that many of the apps I have on the HTC One X are not available on this phone. Most are just bloatware but I miss one in particular which is the flash light app. Now I can get them also on the market, but the stock HTC flash light is the coolest and I was used to it.
Since I rooted both phones I thought I could simply copy the app from the HTC One X to the X+, well it does not work, it simply fails to install. I have even taken a copy from an online 4.2.2 deodex ROM with no luck.
First i copied both apk and odex files from a plain odexed HTC One X /system/app into the same on the X+ and it did not show, then I tried copying the apk into the sdcard and manually install it. Did not work either. So I copied the flashlight apk from a deodexed /system/app zip and put it into the sdcard, and this one too failed to install.
I was wondering if anyone could help me understand what am I doing wrong and why it does not work.
Thank you in advance.
All you need is the apk file

All you should need from the old ROM is the apk file, nothing else. It could be a possible hardware conflict, or signature conflict. What does the error say as to why it fails? Do you have installation of 3rd party apps blocked in the settings? Check that first, then copy the apk to your phone's storage, use a file browser & install the apk. It should work. If not post the error message here.
