Just wanted to see if everyone is diving in and rooting their devices or not. As of right now, I'm still running stock. Haven't found much of a reason to root but would be to nice to have wifi tether and adblock. With one click root, I'm so tempted but still holding off in case any updates. So, have you gone ahead and rooted your new G3 yet?
I rooted mine specifically to disable updates. I'm not so much afraid of root exploits getting patched as I am any potential bootloader exploits being patched. I came from the galaxy s3, which got a bootloader update mid way through that was never cracked, so I'm little worried about that if I wait to long I can never unlock the bootloader. So far I've installed titanium backup, root explorer, and the kit kat sd card fix (no need for hotspot hack since I don't have unlimited data). I'm holding off on anything too major until the bootloader is unlocked and I can do a nandroid first.
I rooted the day I got my g3. I rooted and installed custom roms on my g2 and can't wait to do the same on my g3

I actually got a demo model from VZW, rooted that one, just to see how hard it was going to be, When I got my permanent one a few days later I rooted it out of the box, before installing anything else.
rooted and uninstalled what I could installed xposed tweaked to my liking and waiting for bootloader recovery and roms

Had my G3 a couple of days before I rooted it. It was so simple to do. one of the 1st things I did was get it setup as a hotspot.
As with most of my phones, my G3 was rooted as soon as the battery was charged, and usually before being activated. Now if we could just get a bootloader unlock. :fingers-crossed:

which method are you using for the hotspot? That's a main reason I'd want to root but I believe the method in the dev. section, based on reading peoples comments, it's still not that reliable and requires extra steps to get it working.
I want to root just don't want to screw up my brand new phone. I've always rooted my phones but past couple phones I didn't cause they were locked down so I'm weary to jump back into it lol Everyone using stump root? Seems pretty straightforward with that method for us Verizon guys.

You honestly asked that on XDA???
The question is not "who rooted", but who didn't root?
Me?
1. Out of the box.
2. Activated enough with no SIM to get to ADB
3. Root.
4. Turn off and remove bloat (includes de-activating OTA).
5. Now activate normally and use phone.
My phones go from box to root in under 5 minutes.

I went off of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/mod-verizon-g3-hotspotmod-g2-apk-t2852152 but with a twist after I read the directions. I used Root Explorer to change the names and copy files. Post #15 helped me a lot.
1, download HotspotProvisionVsG3Mod.apk from 1st post and rename to HotspotProvision.apk
2, search for HotspotProvision.apk and HotspotProvision.odex in /system/app. I added .bak to both of them.
3, now copy HotspotProvision.apk that you remaned to /system/app. Change permission's to rw-r-r-
4, reboot

I also used IORoot and it's very easy, Stump wasn't out when I rooted mine but from what I've read Stump is super easy and reliable.
I walked out of Best But, phone activated and Battery at like 70% and hopped on my laptop which I had with me and rooted the phone right there in the parking lot so that I could freeze System Updates right away.
Although Verizon is so slow with OTA updates anyways I really could have waited lol
Root that thing then remove all the Verizon junk and use Greenify... You'll be even more happy with how your G3 runs after doing that and it's quite easy to do.

Becoming more tempted everyday lol My only fear is if the bootloader unlock takes longer than expected, and no recovery access is created so if Verizon releases an update, even if someone pulls the update we won't be able to install because our modded phones and of course, no rom due to no recovery. Maybe I'm thinking too much into it. It's been awhile for me.

The flip side of that is the first update could lock out all root methods and any potential bootloader exploits. There are a lot of smart people on this board, so I'd wager someone will find a safe way to update if no bootloader unlock is discovered by the time it's released.

Very true. Thanks for that link. I'm just afraid of my screwing up my brand new toy haha Not sure why though, it seems stump root is really straight foward. I just know once I do it, I'll start messing with xposed a lot. I know when I had my S3, I was flashing roms like once a day. My gf thought I was crazy.

Anyway, I got my Atrix a couple days ago on AT&T and started learning about rooting and such. Everything on it is still stock, last night I upgraded to Gingerbread from Froyo and I'd just like to know if there's any specific rooting program, method I can use right now for 4.5.91 Also, when I upgraded I lost my music player widget, is there I can get it back without going back to Froyo?

If you are just trying to "root" your phone only, YES, this is the best method.
Thanks for posting this and providing the link in your signature. I was crapping myself reading the other post about how the new updates bricks your phone but no one said if you are just looking to root your stock OTA's you'll be fine. So, thanks again. They should sticky this under "If you are just running stock and want to root without unlocked BL/pudding use this"

Hi all,
Renaissance613, can you post if you had success and if you ran into any problems? I have the same setup as you (2.3.4/4.5.91) and I'm nervous about rooting so soon after the update (I just installed it).
Also, I'm wondering if I will have to undo this root when another automatic update gets pushed down, or if it will just unroot like my gingerbreak root did. I don't have/intend to use any ROMs. I like stock phone with phone-pulled updates and rooted.
In any case, thanks for the link phobos512 - and thanks to this community of developers and users. You guys are awesome.

I'm about to try it but I'm still confused about a few things like when exactly to connect or disconnect my phone and what to do after I've entered all the commands on my computer, will it install by itself? This is my first time rooting a phone, and my first time even owning an android so I want to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing
I hear you man, it's nerve wracking to worry that you're going to brick your phone. I did the gingerbreak on the last release and it worked perfectly. I'm sure this method will work fine as well, as you said I just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing for my goal: stock phone/downloaded updates/rooted. Best of luck, and thanks to anyone who gives us noobs some more reassurance.
this is by far the best method to root on gingerbread, but i dont see any reason to root but to only flash custom roms, i only needed root pre-GB to allow non market apps, and the new GB OTA UPDATE allows non market apps, so im pretty happy with wat i got, before i updated to the OTA GB i had BL unlocked and rooted, just flashed back to 1.2.6 to be rid of root and unlocked BL, then just went throught the OTA updates to get to GB and im loving it, dont really care to flash any other custom roms, BUT BEWARE DOING THE OTA TO GB AND UNLOCKING THE BL THEN TRYIN TO FLASH BACK TO A STOCK ROM WILL HARD BRICK SO DO YOUR RESEARCH so if u dont want a hard bricked phone dont do the ota stick to custom roms and ignore all OTA'S
so I got through the fastboot reboot command, phone booted back up automatically, then put the phone into debug. Then typed in the adb shell code and said the specified path could not be found.
Now I was still in the command prompt that said the c:/root
What did I do wrong?
So, adb says it is a bad path?? Do this instead..it is easier and it works -- I did it this way last night!
After "moto-fastboot reboot", once your phone has completely rebooted, go to the Android Market and download and install "Terminal Emulator." Once it is instslled and you have opened it, enter the EXACT SAME commands that you were going to type into the Adb Shell..once again, type in the commands VERBATIM. After the last command, there should be a message saying (in terminal emulator) that it was successful! Congrats, you have achieved root access on the AT&T issued stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 build! I hope it works for you!

Hello everyone, I am still a little confused between what will or what will not brick my phone. I appreciate your responses.
I am still in froyo 2.2.2 (firmware 1.8.3), rooted using GladRoot method (rooted in previous firmware, then upgraded to 1.83 and used the AfterUpdate.bat.
I am afraid to do the updrade to GB because after reading a looot of threads here on this I am completely confused on what will brick my atrix and what not. If I upgrade to GB OTA, will that brick my phone? if it doesn't brick it, what does? if I upgrade to GB OTA will I able to root it? what method should I use?

Updating to GB won't brick your phone. After updating to GB you can't down grade to older OS (like the one your on right now) that would brick your phone. So as long as you don't plan on going back to a past OS version (and I don't know why anyone would) you'll have no problems at all. As for Rooting >follow this link< and follow the instructions there after you update to GB. It works perfectly, you don't have to unlock your BL or anything else like that to just have Root on GB. Hope this helps.
Thanks!!! That was the response I was looking for
Now, what method should I use if I were planning to unlock the bootloader?
Also, if something goes wrong and I need to reinstall the upgrade (or better, flash with GB again with a spf file) will that not brick by atrix either?

I will buy N2 off contract by next week from bestbuy because I have buy back on my Galaxy Nexus and I like Geek Squad protection.
Anyway, my GN is rooted and has CM10.1 installed. What are your advices about first things to do with the N2??
I am not asking about accessories or covers...etc I am asking about rooting access, unlocking bootloader and OTA updates. Usually when I get new device, I like to use it as it comes from the manufacture for about couple of weeks. Then, I would do root, unlock bootloader, install recovery and try different ROMs for fun, but not a lot. Is there anyway to reject the OTA update permanent even though I don't have root on N2? So whenever I decide to install ROMs, I can do it. I hate to be unable to have unlock bootloader and root forever because of stupid update
Do not let the store update it. You turn it on, don't let them. Reject the update. Get it home and root it and freeze sdm 1.0
As long as the update hasn't been applied, rooting and unlocking the bootloader is a snap thanks to Adam Outler's process. Find that thread and follow the steps...there is even a video to walk you through it. 10 minutes and you will have TWRP custom recovery and can flash ROMs. For Verizon there are two primary daily drivers out there, Beans and clean. Both are touchwiz based so the s-pen works. There are some aosp roms out there in alpha, but I don't think s-pen works with them.

Can I just root it to freeze sdm 1.0 without unlock the bootloader? so that I unlock whenever I want to try different roms.
I guess this is more of a question then anything but any chance the radio update (that came with the new bootloader) will be required for continue functioning of the phone on verizon network? I.e, can you avoid updating hte radio indefinitely or do you have to manually apply that portion of the update ?

I just found the one click root called ExynosAbuse APK on xda. I am thinking to do it and then freeze sdm 1.0 in order to stop the update coming to my phone. Then, I will unlock the bootloader and try different roms whenever I get board with stock.
Yes
Just don't use that app to 'fix' the exploit. That seems to be causing people issues. The are two options in that app....root... And patch the exploit. Don't patch the exploit., just root it.
Bottom line is as long as you freeze sdm the worst you will have to do is flash back to stock. Which will be no problem since you didn't take the update.

I just received my Note 2 yesterday.. What is the release number for the new upgrade?
I have been searching all over to find any information on this new kitkat update for the Note 2. I haven't found much. I think the main thing I found was Knox 2.0 or whatever. Is it possible, or is anyone working on a way to at least get root back on here? I didn't do the update yet, but it's bugging me. I would like kitkat and I like this phone, but samsung/verizon locking this thing down is driving me nuts. To the point that I want to sell this phone. So yeah, is anyone aware of any information on the 4.4.2 update and the possibilities to root it at least. I don't even care to install ROMS.

Yeah this is unfortunate. I would try it if I could flash back to 4.3. Has anyone attempted that? I would gladly chip in and help with this, but I'm new and don't know much about rooting and what not. If there are people working on it I would like to find them.
So... I can confirm that this root does not work for the VZW Galaxy note II running the latest update 4.4.2 (ND7). I tried it several times. Not sure if I am doing anything wrong, but from what I gathered, its pretty straight forward. Just run the app. Also, I can tell you that once you download the OTA you WILL NOT be able to go back to a previous version. I tried to Odin back to MJ9 4.3 and that failed. So, essentially, once you do the kitkat update, you're screwed, and stuck. I can't root, can't go back now. Hopefully someone else can figure this out. Or chime in?
Please try these steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784138
Rooted wife's S4. Ran towelroot. Tried the play store supersu but it couldn't install su binaries so I thought it wasn't rooted until I tried an app that needed root. It got root via supersu even tho it kept complaining about binaries. I then followed the steps in that post and the phone is now rooted with safestrap.
Also try app called root checker from play store.
Towel root does not work. The phone just reboots almost immediately after pressing make it ra1n. Once it boots back up I have checked with root checker. I am not root. Tried it several times. It appears that the exploit gets past the enforce SELinux but for some reason it doesn't on this phone. Or maybe it's Knox that is knocking it down and rebooting the phone.

after reading the thread on towel with the drastic high usage is disappointing. Im seeing now where someone suggested puttting SuperSU on before the the towel exploit .. however it questionable. RIght now most talk seems to steam from shutting off knox which seems to be the issue.
Unfortunately putting supersu on before you use the towel exploit does nothing. Supersu needs root in order to run or do anything. And even so. I ran the exploit several times. First time with with supersu. Second time with out. Then I reinstalled the latest and ran it again. Still nothing. Phone just reboots and is unrooted. Also, you can't disable Knox with out root. Whether that be from supersu disabling it or freezing and/or uninstalling Knox files. You need root in order to do these things. I ended up emailing geohot a few days ago about it, but he never got back to me. Like I said I am willing to try things and help on a project. But, I am no programmer.

You are still good to go. Depending on which firmware it has you might have to downgrade to root and unlock, but there are some pretty good guides on how to do that in this forum.

OK, so I would have to downgrade possibly. I just hate having to go backwards but, if that's what it takes to root and unlock. Would you happen to know which firmware is it that has to go back to root and such. We are both on Galaxy s3, she's wants new, I'm fine with my rooted and unlocked gs3, I actually thought about the n6, but who knows own. THANKS.

10b is what you want to be on. Once you root that and installed the bumped twrp its easy to flash an updated stock and an updated modem to get back on the latest update.
I got mine back in December and it was still on 10b. I didn't have to downgrade.
I am running 12b right now via Eclipse ROM. Fantastic!

Once you are rooted, you can retain root through the updates. So you can root, update, then install twrp if you like. From there you can backup your stock abd mess around with whatever custom roms you like.
read my post under general and flash tool thread last week w links
its easy, I was in your shoes 2 or 3 weeks ago. read my post under general and the flash tool thread = basically 10 minutes total = If I remember correctly just instal LG drivers onto Windows, open flash tool folder, click and drag 10b file to flash folder, run, Root w stump via hard method when it says phone not ssupported/ use hard crack method or whatever is says (forgot) or ioroot, supersu & twrp via play store apps is easy on LG g3. Save twrp restore state on sd, then use 12b file I linked, I love it! My wife will not get a Samsung next time, this thing is awesome due to less big brother and more friendly focus on hardware vs locking u out. Fyi the screen is not dim in the Sun as reviews always said.

I got mine a week ago and it came with 10b

Hello all! I am currently trying to root an LG Premier LTE
5.1.1 lollipop
Straight talk
Please help me, also thank you very much for your time
I have this phone also and I have searched high and low. At a glance it doesn't look good. I hear people saying things like a locked bootloader and unrootable. I remember the Motorola Atrix 2, and what a nightmare that whole thing was for me and my woman. I'ma give this phone to my daughter. She would love it for a birthday present. If this phone cannot be rooted, and if the bootloader is locked, and nothing comes of this it is useless to me. So if a bootloader is locked does that mean this device is unrootable? Any of you developers thank you for your time in advance, is there such thing as an unrootable Android? If I come up on any information I will post it here on your thread my friend
I'm also looking to root this phone. Hopefully someone will come up with a way. I remember when the Samsung Galaxy J3 came out and it took a while before someone came up with a root method for it. If I find any new information, I will also post it here.
Locked bootloader doesn't mean unrootable. You can root with a rooting app, then before rebooting, use flashify to flash the stock kernel(boot.img)
Ive tried Kingroot and other one click methods. Also tried kingoroot on the pc. All failed. Tried using adb reboot bootloader and it just reboots the phone and adb reboot recovery only gives you the option of factory reset.
Anyone able to root this yet?
Has anyone figured out how yet?
Yes I rooted it

How'd you do it? :fingers-crossed:
Can u please tell us how we can root the LG Premier Lte
Or are u just lying to troll all of us as u can tell it means a great deal to us and lying doesnt make any progression
I have same phone and I have tried everything...........if anyone knows a way post here please and thanks!!
I also have this phone. Would love to root it but none of the above were successful: King Root. Kingo root. Srs root. One Click Root. Stump root. Towelroot. LG one Click. Lol ive tried them all.
Has anyone done anything or had any succuess with this phone? Seems to be a higher priced but lower end phone.... My LG G2 from 4 years ago still blows this phone away. I shouldnt have jumped on this phone when my G4 broke. Should have just spent $20 on a throw away for while in the bind and explored my options.
Just a thought here but....
I have read the LG K10 is the "SAME" phone? and that the "LG Premier LTE" is just the renamed version of the K10 for Straight Talks services.... Can anyone confirm or deny that we could use the Root methods, Recoverys and or flash system images etc. from the K10?
Has any successfully rooted this phone yet?
I was able to temporarily root it with King root but as soon as you restart or turn off the phone, root is gone.
After getting temp root through kingroot we will need a custom recovery. Frash that before the phone reboots. Once it reboots. Go to recovery and flash a supersu zip. The only thing we are missing is a custom recovery.....
Need Me Some TWRP Love.

Wonder if the TWRP guys are working on this? :fingers-crossed:
It should be just like every other LG phone
Open McAfee security, sign up and get into the security options. Then disable it's root blocker.
anyone been able to figure this out yet????
Wouldn't Hold My Breath.

I wouldn't hold my breath. If this hasn't been rooted by now, it most likely won't be.
I've been waiting for months and at this point will have a new phone before anyone takes the time to figure out how to root this one.
