[Q] how to update Lumia 920 (Dev Build version) to 8.1? - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi, I just got a Lumia 920 Dev Kit from Build (developer unlocked) and I'm trying to upgrade the software/firmware to a version that will allow me to upgrade to 8.1. I was able to install some updates and now it's saying it's on OS version 8.0.10211.204 but no updates past that.
Manufacturer model name in extras + info is RM-820_nam_canada_246
Can I manually flash to newer firmware? If so will that allow me to upgrade to 8.1?

You have to flash the Rogers 8.1 rom. Or ask anaheiim in the general section

That's correct. I also have att. I have flashed the same rom. We can't flash back to att because of a ffu signed error, so we are stuck at the moment. Rogers is basically att and or uses the same bands. No difference except in the phone signature. Go for it.

Perfect thanks! I'm downloading that rom now.

I'm getting this error

Does that mean I need a different rom? My device is the unlocked Dev Build version, not a retail/branded version or anything.
How do I find the correct one?

Thanks everyone, the ATT rom worked. I'm now on 8.1 Update 1, only downside is it's Black firmware not Cyan which I think I can deal with until ATT releases it.

I don't see the point thus anyone could download them from Nokia Care with navfirm and flash with NCS; it seems to me pretty useless, correct if I'm wrong sir.

incorrect. for somebody that will 'bash' a thread, you sure don't follow them... see here for those that can Introp-Unlock and load a Custom ROM, when they become available.
plus, this ROM doesn't have to be used only for the Nokia Lumia 800. parts of this ROM can be used in other Custom ROMs for other devices. e.g. HTC, Samsung
If I flash this will it magically let me use the 850MHz band on AT&T's network? Currently I don't get very good 3G coverage with just the 1900MHz band.

I know some people can now load custom ROM's, that's right. However they still can be downloaded from NCS. If you want threads for official ROM's to collect them for devs, they'd better make one thread which collects them all...

Radio frequencies can't be unlocked via a software change. frequencies are locked at the hardware level.

No, but it's much easier to find a ROM if they're collected all in 1 thread. If chefs search for something, they'd rather search one thread (and if possible only the first page) to find the ROM, instead of trying to find the thread that has already gone in the crowd because he searches an old or unpopular ROM...
Just some thoughts...

HI,
Mine is black AT&T lumia (059L848) and I downloaded via NCS.
I got the product code of dev edition (059R2L5) from this link http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f60...ting-care-suite-download-1660094/#post9434277
So I just tried flashing that version to my black AT&T 920 and it gave me the error Platform ID check fails. Says the FFU file is not meant for this product. Platform ID of image does not match with the platform ID of the device.
Did you flash to any other version prior to going to the dev rom or straight from stock ATT to ATT dev? Perhaps I have to be on an earlier version of the stock ATT rom to do the flash to the current dev rom?

im flashing to this ROM right now... i was originally in AT&T stock but moved to Rogers pre-portico then jumped to european trying to get to Stock ROM unsuccessfully i ended up with the Mexico ROM and now im Trying this one...
edit - using Developers ROM
- this ROM work perfect to me now... i have all the languages that i wanted to change my phone with, I get LTE as well as before was only 4G

So for those using the developer ROM, is it worth doing? What's different about it? What's the branding on it?

First question is why do you want to flash? What do you hope to gain by flashing?
You sat it is AT&T, just so you know flashing alone to another ROM will not allow you to use it on another network if that is your hopes. You have to unlock it first through one of the many services that will show up when you do a google search to unlock your Lumia 920.

[Q] How to download firmware on Lumia 920

there seem to be many different guides on how to download ROMS, but either I'm being really stupid, or something is wrong.
I have a UK Lumia 920, unlocked but with EE firmware. I want to debrand it and put on the latest version of generic UK firmware. I have tried using NaviFirm 1.7 (and 1.6 and 1.5) but I recieve an error saying the connection is unauthorised, no matter which of the 3 servers I select. If I try to use Nokia care suite (product support tool for store) v 2013.8.3, I can open a product, but I can't view or download any firmware. I have tried the older version of the care suite (2012) but it had the same issue
I can see on some guides it states I need to use NaviFirm to download the firmware (which I cant do due to the error described above) and import it into Nokia care suite.
how can I download the firmware for me phone, and how do I go about flashing it? Am I using the wrong programs or reading outdated info?
I have Windows XP 32bit
Am pretty sure Nokia have stopped people from using their servers through Navifirm and Nokia Care suite, The last version I used that worked was on a Lumia 900 and was ver 1.5 but that was some time ago :crying:
It is still possible to download FW with the help of Nokia Care Suite - without any obstructions.
Install correct NCS and copy new *.cfg file. Then if you know the PC you can download i use to flash only NCS
So how do I go about doing it, because using the versions described above i cant do it. What is the 'correct version'. The 2013 version of NCS i used the cfg file but it didn't make much difference (not really sure what it does)

Hi Did you manage to upgrade your firmware in the end? I have a Lumia 925...I've only had it a few weeks, but already hear there is a new version of the firmware... which is great!... except Vodafone are unlikely to release it anytime soon.... I understand WP8 is a hard OS to crack in terms of rooting, but if anyone has a simple way of installing official Nokia ROMs - it would be really useful to know. Cheers!
Hi, my product code is 059P632 RM-821 LIGHT SWAP ENG GLOBAL.
Do u have the download link for this model's latest FW?? much thanks

Enable VoLTE on EE in the UK?

I have a sim unlocked Xperia 1 J8110, there is no such option in the settings for VoLTE anywhere, I tried doing *#*#4636#*#* then going on to phone information, but the VoLTE provisioned is grey'd out, is the another firmware I can flash?, Preferably unbranded as I don't want bloatware.
Edit: my device was previously on Vodafone before unlocking, does that make a difference, also my build number is 55.0.A.6.16
Flash ee firmware

I've got Xperia 1 from o2. It was factory unlocked but branded to o2.
I've had to flash unbranded generic UK to get VoLTE and VoWiFi on EE.

So I just flash the unbranded firmware then put my sim card in & should be good to go right?, No unlocked bootloader needed etc. OTA's working fine?

Yes . No need to unlock bootloader etc.. It will wipe your current data and settings.
Please use this guide to flash. https://www.xperiablog.net/2018/01/...-firmware-for-xperia-xz-premium-xz1-and-more/

I believe generic as that's what'll give me VoLTE and WiFi calling, was just making sure, thanks
Owner of a J8110, was on Vodafone but is now unlocked however I assume I'm still on Vodafone firmware..
So what's the best firmware available, unbranded?
I need WiFi Calling & voLTE but also would like to be on a firmware with the fastest updates possible
Any help is appreciated, be specific as possible please, thanks guys

The first to receive the updates usually are RU an UA regions, not UK... But J8110 firmware of that regions are not available.

So other than the RU & UA regions, Customized UK is the best to be on? Considering I'm in the UK.., this is unbranded and has WiFi calling & voLTE with fastest updates in UK?
I thought Customized firmware was best and fastest but EE had update first, why is this? Is unbranded not better anymore

The EE one is basically an unbranded one, probably just the luck of the draw for which ones come first
