So I don't know why, but the RUU exe files just don't work for me. I've done everything but start fresh on my PC, but it's exam week in a computer modeling class and I just can't do that right now!
I've had nothing but problems since I attempted one of the 2-step processes out there for updating to the radios/kernels, so I really want to get through an RUU so I know I'm clean at my lowest levels.
I have found the PH98...zip files for the shipped version of the ROM, but thoes don't work due to my version of HBOOT (not mainver.. that never got updated).
Does anyone out there have one for the newest RUU? At this point, I think flashing that from HBOOT is the only option I have.
I have no idea how to extract it myself, so I can do that too if someone can tell me how!
Thanks for any help.

You did relock your bootloader before running the RUU right?

Oh yeah. Really, tried everything. It sees the phone, reads the current build, goes through the next screen or two, and then once it says "Rebooting to Bootloader" it either sits there for a couple minutes till it times out and errors or errors immediately. I cannot find any other posts of people having problems, so I'm really at a loss. Makes me worried about having more troubles once the official ICS build comes out... but I probably have a lot of time till then.
Thanks guys!
Tried this as well, and my phone is not seeing the file
Make sure you are naming the file correctly "PH98IMG. zip" the instructions provided give a different file name than want the Rezound uses.

I updated to the latest ota that verizon sent out. I didnt flash a rom, only perm rooted/unlocked...I relocked my phone tried the ruu exe many times didnt work..I done a backup of my nandroid but it took me back to the earlier firmware but still have the updated radio..So, I will relock it and place this on my sd card and try again..I was getting error 140 on the ruu exe
Here is the no-brainer fix for those that end up having Mainver issues, or maybe want to come back from an ICS ROM to GB and RUU and the normal methods don't work...
Go to www.scottsroms.com and hit the download section, look for Rezound and Stock Roms. Grab his boot image for the latest OTA.
Then download his "Cleanflash" utility and copy the boot.img file to that directory on your PC.
Run it and select option "2".
That restores the stock boot image and mainver right there. If you made a Nandroid of your system from before you went to ICS, boot into recovery and restore it. His tool will also install Amon Ra or CWM recovery, just like the boot image, download the one you want and copy that recovery.img to the cleanflash folder and run the tool.
I went from a completely hosed ICS install which would not allow RUU or Hbooting the PH98IMG.zip file... nothing worked, was contemplating replacing the phone, when I tried Scott's tool to push the stock boot image to the phone and then restored my Nandroid.
Worked 100% in under 5 minutes, the Nandroid Restore taking most of that time.
Hope this helps!
Hello friends,
One of my friends has got an HTC Amaze 4G from the US. The phone is already factory sim unlocked. He's given this phone to me because he wanted it to read and write Arabic letters and RTL in general.
I got this phone, what I've already done till I had the problem was, unlocking bootloader -> installing EXT4 -> got a patch from Hasoon2000 (Link to the original thread) -> EXT4 Recovery for wiping cache, dalvik and fixing permissions -> Flashed the Arabic Patch zip -> Wooops! the phone is stuck at the HTC screen.
I've searched the forums for an RUU to get the phone back and fix the soft brick. All what I found were RUUs for different carriers from CA and US (RUU collections thread)
Later on, I relocked the bootloader, downloaded this RUU
PH85IMG_Ruby_TMOUS_1.43.531.3_Radio_1.08.550L.19DC _30.66.550L.08D_release_228638_signed.zip
Put it on an Ext SD card, went to fastboot bootloader, it started detecting the ZIP and finished showing this error "Incorrect Phone ID"
Then I downloaded this one (Asian RUU) too after some searching.
PH85IMG_Ruby_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.60.707.3_R_Radio_1.13.550L.13DC_30.69b.550L.101_release_253820_signed.zip
The fastboot detected it but ended up with going back to bootloader main menu without any prompts or errors.
Finally, I am clueless and came here to ask you for your help and suggestions to overcome this problem.
Notes:
-The phone is Factory Sim Unlocked and does not have any names of any carries burnt into it (Unbranded Phone).
-After finishing the process of unlocking bootloader, I saw the list of the languages selectable were English (Singapore), English (Pakistan), and other Asian languages and no US and EU languages were present (That's why I was trying to install the RUU of Asia)
-The phone is on Stock GB 2.3.4, stock kernel, and EXT4 Recovery.
Thanks all
Have you tried restoring a backup. Can you boot into the bootloader and recovery?. If so you just need to figure out why this device is unbranded. I never seen an amaze unbranded unless the digitizer was replaced at some point. Was this phone ics or gingerbread before it was tampered with?
Sent from my VLE_U using xda app-developers app
if by unbranded you mean the phone just has HTC and no other carrier lable on it then its most likely the Canadian version from Wind Mobile or Telus or Mobilicity. and as far as you downloading the RUUs have you renamed them to PH85IMG.zip before trying to flash them in bootloader? another easy way to find out what stock ruu you need is to check your HBOOT version on the boot loader so you can see what stock RUU's are compatible with it

Unfortunately, I have not taken any backup, as I assumed at first that the process is quite simpler (which is already is). I already ran at much harder work than this one with ios, symbian, bada, and android.
Yes, I can boot into the bootloader and recovery.
I neither know the reason for unbranding the device.
It was Stock Gingerbread 2.3.4
Thank you for your appreciated time and help.

Yes, I have already renamed RUUs each time before copying them to the SD card.

Could you tell me how to know which stock RUUs are compatible with the phone?
Note: I ran across this thread, but I don't actually know whether S-off and SuperCid would help me in my case or not. I don't want to put water into soil
My Cid is the same as his one, HTC_044.
Thank you for your appreciated help and time.

I'd wait for a 2nd opinion to be sure, but the HBOOT looks like mine did on Gingerbread which is a US T-Mobile brand.
I'd also wait to get a working RUU on it before doing S-Off and super cid. But, once you do both, you'll be able to flash any carrier's RUU.

I will try flashing other RUUs till the moment I get a second opinion.
Thank you Wolf.
Just figured out why the Asian RUU did not get flashed in the bootloader, as the package contains 4 bad files (CRC errors); you can see the 4 files in the attached screenshot.
One guy also had those bad crc errors before, Thread.
Therefore, the only solution to my problem is to s-off and supercid to get another RUU from other carriers to work.
The question is, is there anyway to s-off the phone from the bootloader?
Because the JuopunutBear method requires the phone to be on (operating normally), USB Debugging on, and fast boot off from power options.
Hope someone helps me.
Thanks all
EDIT: Just finished downloading the ruu from another mirror, Winrar does not show any errors!
will transfer it to SD, and retry.
wish me luck guys.
UPDATE: The phone is back to life again! Time to backup!
wait you were on GB i would have updated to ICS before trying to flash any custom roms, most roms are designed for android 4.0+ let me see if i can find u a stock GB RUU

ohh okay didnt see you had it up and running, this time do an official update to ICS before trying to flash anymore roms, and always remember to do a NANdroid backup before flashing any and all roms, once you update to ICS you should S-OFF your phone and superCID it so this way next time you can restore to stock with any RUU from any carrier, good luck and happy flashing and dont forget to hit that thanks button for ppl that offer help/advice ^^
plz share the link for the Custom ROM

Hi all,
I was hoping for a little help. I got my phone last summer on At&t and immediately converted the Developer's Edition. The phone is currently rooted,
has s-off and is on a KitKat Rom.
The above said, would I be able to get back to stock? I've Googled it and can only find instructions on Stock to Developer's, not the other way around.
TIA

Thank you! All though I have email notification set up for replies, I never received one. Interesting is that my CID remains the At&t and i currently have s-off. When I RUU.exe (I downloaded the same the other night), I get an error and it restarts my phone. I'm wondering if it's because I have a KitKat Rom already installed and the software number is slightly higher than the RUU? The software number is 4.18.502.7 (my phone). I think the RUU is 502.1.
Thanks again,

I tried as you have suggested your decrypted file. Unfortunately, I get an error when trying to run it via ADB in fastboot.
I've rooted when I first got the phone last summer using Revone method/tool. All worked fine and i had continued updating the OS a few times with stock rooted phones.
The last that i updated to was a stock rooted odex kitkat ROM found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2676986
Only thing that seemed wrong was that I couldn't reinstall any of my apps requiring root. The error that would pop up is "Could not install to SD card".
Now, I have to say that I noticed that with some updates, it seems that new ROMS don't clean up the old files/framework even after fully wipes. It seems to back it up in some folders (sdcard0, sdcard00, sdcard000 etc). All though the sdcard folder seems clean and refreshed, the others mentioned had all my old files in there. Since I've updated to kitkat, I can no longer view these folders (I used to use Root Explorer, but now since the kitkat install - I can't). What caused me to notice was the fact that my storage, in the 'Other:' section, shows 20GB out of 32. So, I used ES File Mgr to see if I can create some space by deleting the so-called backup folders. I think that was a bad mistake because now, even after a full data wipe, I still can't:
* Install root-required apps
* flash the zip file you provided
* use the exe version of the zip you provided (still get an error with that as well)
* Clear the 20gb of data I don't need
* get back to the At&t carrier brand from the Developer's Edition that i switched it to back last summer.
Fortunately the phone works fine, but is this hopeless? Anything I can do to get this going again (really thing I messed things up)
Is there anything else I can try?
thank you,
infg3570

There is no such thing as a "normal" device. Every region or carrier has its own variant. If you mean the EMEA versions (often called "international") than you are still in the wrong version section. This is specifically for the AT&T variant.

my android version is 4.4.2
Middle East version (I am not sure if that what you are talking about)
because I did not knew that m8 has many models,
Only US versions have RUUs.
Go to the stock backup thread, find the stock nandroid for your CID, and restore it with custom recovery. As long as the nandroid was not rooted, you should not have root after restoring. But I don't see why you would want to unroot, unless you are going to return or sell/trade the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Also, this forum section is specific to the US AT&T version. For your version, you might get better exposure on the "international" M8 section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8

You just said your CID is HTC__J15. So that is the CID! You find the matching stock nandroid for that CID.
On the stock nandroid thread, click on "Click to Show Content" and you will see the nandroid backup for HTC__J15. Its lumped together with a bunch of other CIDs. All WWE versions (multiple CIDs) use the same software, which is x.xx.401

What version of TWRP is installed?
In TWRP, did you pick the INSTALL option (on main TWRP screen) or RESTORE? Since its a nandroid, you need to RESTORE.
Also, are you ware the nandroid is not a flashable ROM zip? Did you extract the zip contents, and copy them to the proper folder location? See the nandroid thread, Post #2 under Questions & Answers, question #2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51536075&postcount=2
You obviously didn't wipe "everything" since this would include the place you saved the nandroid. Please don't be vague, and list specifically what you wiped. Often when folks say they "wiped everything" they don't really mean it literally.
Its also not clear to me why you want to unroot. Another approach would be to pick a custom ROM that is Sense, and just not too modified, and stay rooted. Just flashing a ROM is a bit more easy than restoring a nandroid.

First: I am sorry for being vague, English is not my native language, I am not a developer.
1-my CID is (HTC__J15), so I downloaded (3.28.401.9 - TWRP) based on:
(3.16 hboot = 1.12 / 1.54 software
3.18 hboot = 2.22 software
3.19 hboot = 3.xx software)<<< HBOOT-3.19.0.0000
2- I extracted the zip file and I put the extracted folder into /external_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS
3-I entered to RECOVERY,Wipe,Advance Wipe. check:
(Dalvik Cashe,System,Cache,Data,Internal Storage) then Wipe.
and I Format Data and Factory reset, and I am not sure if it need all this but I did it.
4-I entered Restore, to the extracted folder then(Swipe to Restore). >>> failed
that is what I did exactly.
roms like MIUI has many bugs, nothing works, I think stock rom is better for me
and about the root, if I can upgrade the htc system and I can use it without any problem then no need to unroot the device. I miss stock rom
UPDATE
finally I did it
the problem was from the extracted folder
when extracting the folder and open it, there is another folder to access the files
I moved the files to the first folder then my phone was able to recognize the files
folder/folder/files that is my problem
folder/files good to go I moved the files to the first folder then I deleted the empty folder(second folder)
Thank you all for helping me

Problem is now i didn't backup like a dumb arse my working OS and flashed a bad one or maybe the radio or some crap needed to be done first since it was going from 4.4.2 to 5+. In short all i have is recovery and sideload and every rom i download fails to sideload on the phone side and says sucessful on the pc cmd window. Need help with this please

Wipe data, cache, dalvik, put the appropriate ROM for your carrier/build on SD card or root of internal storage and flash. All else fails run an RUU, bring you back to 100% stock then you can properly reinstall the custom recovery of your choice.

I do the proper wipe before flashing my new rom, i'm under the AT&T HTC One M8 section i believe my phone was only @ 4.4.2 before this and here is the bootloader info is :

Tried cm-12-20150131-NIGHTLY-m8 it fails to flash and its on the sd and internal. SkyDragon M8 Sense Rom installs but doesn't boot (tried 2 versions of this rom 700mb and a 1.6gb), believe i tried a couple other roms in my phones section there's only like 9 of them there. I have the stock RUU but fails to detect the phone and fails i think it's meant to sense a turned on functional phone i don't see any kind of recovery method with the stock ruu. All i want is a rom to work with Straight talk the stock os even being unlocked and rooted with su still shoved the default APN down my throat(I even paid 2.99$ for the SQLlite and deleted all other APNs still won't let me check off a APN profile i created as default) making my signal on ST flakey and couldn't get mms to work just picture txting wasn't working. So i went full on like my old HTC One X but dived head first too fast didn't backup my old OS and didn't know firewater was gone till i was at that step of the procedure and it was too late Oh and using TWRP 2.7.1.0 it's the highest i can use before it won't boot.

Boot into fastboot, check device manager (if youre on windows) for any unknown drivers and install them if you can. Then run the RUU I posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/100-stock-4-4-4-ruu-t3017594 which would update you to 4.4.4.

Ok TY i'll try that soon as it downloads, i did finally get RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_ATT_SECURITY_Cingular_US_1.58.502.1_Radio_1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L_release_368350_signed_2
To see the phone and no progress bar shows up on the phone and the program errors out, i even did a full system wipe before i tried it again still to no avail.

You'll have to setup your APN and mms message size settings for straight talk, that should fix the text messaging problems.

No matter what message app i try i can't send pictures or large txts my mms is borked and to make matters worse when i installed this rom i must of removed the stock HTC messaging app so i can't find any settings to set the mms size limits. I'd like to figure out how to put the stock messaging app back on the phone without redoing the whole OS
Using Handcent and hangouts and i see no size limit options within the apps or anywhere in the phone settings. Looked up my phone specifically and where the option/s is supposed to be the said section of options is not even there.
If you've got a stock rom downloaded to your computer or sd card you can unzip it and look in system app folder and find the htc messaging apks. Then just install them as system apps and fix permissions.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Before i try and fix my obvious other problems does anyone know how to fix a bad flash of TWRP? I'm used to just adb command line flashing it and never had a issue before on my HTC One X, but seems it a was bad idea and it landed on boot partition and is causing glitches. is there a stock boot i can flash or what do i need?

Why do you think that partition, in particular? If you are talking about boot.img, that gets re-flashed any time your flash a ROM.
Try fastboot erase cache, and flash recovery by fastboot. If Clockwork doesn't work, try TWRP.
If you indeed have some corrupted partition(s), your best bet is to RUU. You are non-specific about what error codes, so its hard to help you troubleshoot why the RUU failed. Try a more updated RUU, such as 2.23.

Error 155 Unknown Error it says, do i need to relock the bootloader? I could never find a way to S-Off the device so idk if its that or corrupted partition like you said but all my services on my phone crash constantly. But that's better then aokp_task650_m8_kitkat_5.13.2014 that one won't even make it through setup the services crash so often the badseed rom is the only other rom i found that is actually usable. Oh my RUU is 2.0.16 how can i find the newest one for my HTC One M8?

You always need to relock the bootloader to run RUU with s-on. No exceptions.
Hopefully this will clear up your RUU problem, although the RUU number you just supplied above doesn't make any sense (doesn't correspond to any RUU for this device) Where did you find it, and its not what you referenced in Post #5 above.
CavyS already supplied a link for the "latest" AT&T RUU in Post #4 above. Although be aware, that if you are successful in running the latest RUU, it will render sunshine unable to achieve s-off. I suggest RUU to 1.58 or 2.23 (if you want s-off), as those should still be supported by sunshine.

Relocked and flashed the ruu utility version said 2.0.16.2014 and is KK 4.4, idk about sunshine as to reading about people with my phone and it not working so for a 25$ leap of faith not sure what to do about that. My phone is running perfect now in a locked down carrier branded and bloatware way lol. Thanks guys, anyway i can tell if sunshine will work on my phone?

I think that is the version of the actual installer software (.exe) not the ROM version it will install on your phone. Kitkat for AT&T would be either 1.58 or 2.23. That number will be in the actual file name of the RUU, so just look there (actually a much longer string of numbers starting with 1.58 or 2.23, but I've abbreviated them for convenience).

You install the sunshine APK, run it, and sunshine will tell you whether it can s-off the phone or not. You won't be charged unless it can successfully s-off the phone. I haven't heard of any folks here that got charged, and sunshine couldn't s-off the device.

Wow thanks for the info! Before i try this can after S-OFF/rooting/SU can i install the unlocked/developer ruu from HTC and get HTC OTA and get away from this bloated carrier branded crap? So much in the forums and i can't find a answer to this question anywhere.
