You didn't give us much to info to work with, but if it just quit working without a change in setup I would think it is hardware malfunction.
I know you've probably tried already....
I had this happen with a nexus device last year. Once rebooted, it went away.
On another device, I had an software conflict (with one of those plug-in-the-headset, do something apps). It also cause one of the volume buttons to quit. Removed the app, button worked.
Sorry if this doesn't help.

Hello,
About two months ago I factory resetted and fully recharged my Acer Liquid MT.
Didn't use it for quite a while, but recently I wanted to but apparently the battery was empty meanwhile.
Charged it for hours but it didn't go on anymore (tried most basic stuff: changing battery, reset button etc)
Didn't show 'any sign of life' however. No screen, no sound, nothing at all.
Yesterday I did hold the Power Button and both Volume Buttons for a few seconds and it quickly vibrated a few times + one (normal) vibrate afterwards.
I think it isn't completely bricked since it did vibrate.
However, how am I going to be able to get this thing working again?
Many thanks in advance!
PS: Rooted, no custom ROM.
Edit
Forgot to mention, but my PC doesn't detect the phone anymore when connected to USB ...
i'm sorry...
it sounds your phone is bricked... i don't know how u could fix it

There is a liquid metal forum on modaco.com, maybe you should look there. If it was working before, maybe it fell down once or got some hardware fault? 3 vibrations were SD download mode AFAIK

No help from there really ...
Well it didn't fell down, it was fully charged & working, until I tried it later on
Ok, keep device manager opened, connect phone and power on with all the key combo's mentioned here and tell me what happens in device manager: what device is popping up etc.

Thanks for your interest in my problem.
The phone doesn't respond to any of the commands anymore.
Also, what do you mean with 'device manager' exactly?

It needs good charging as the battery has drained completely and will take time , may be couple of days. If it doesn't fix the problem then take it to a mobile shop and ask them to power charge it. It will fix the problem. I had the same issue with this phone...
I hope it helps...

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-device-manager#1TC=windows-7
Or just hit the Windows Key (next to Alt by the Spacebar) + the letter R together then type : devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
When the Device Manager is open and you plug in the device, you should see it blink out for a sec and reload and show you the device - probably will see a yellow warning symbol next to it - if so that means the PC sees it, just not loading the correct driver.
Hi everyone...
Some days ago, i was trying, OmniROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544790). I follow all the steps and even get the superSU app going. One night, y saw how my nightly got updated, and in the morning, start to reboot randomly. If I push the power botton sometimes, doesn´t appear the blockscreen but the screen with the reboot option and turn off appear...
I put my cellphone back to stock with root using SuperOneClick from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081. Then, I format my sd card and internal storage...The problem persist...
I would like that someone help me, I'm tryin everything and didn't solve it...
Based on your description, it sounds like a hardware issue -more specifically, a failing power button.
I have read that some users were able to fix the issue by disassembling the phone and spraying out the switch with contact cleaner, and I have read that others had the power switch replaced altogether.
Hopefully others will chime-in with their thoughts.

I had to replace my power button. this is a known issue with the s2.
I recommend this guy's services: http://stores.ebay.com/t989-refurb -- he can do the i777 even though it's not listed. He's a very nice guy and will do a fine job.
here's his video demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0xMMn1DRWs
1. Softkeys ( Menu and Home ) starting to auto-press today suddenly for no reason. Before you ask , I don't droped my phone or any type of shock !
2. After some time sofkeys ( Menu and Home ) stop working at all ! They don't even light out if I'm trying to press them... Although the 'Back' key is working perfectly fine.. :/
These problem solve magically after one restart but after few minutes they still persist ! Sometimes working fine , sometimes autopressing or not working at all and after a while working again.. :/
Anyone else had this problem too or know how to fix it ? ( if it's even possible to fix )
P.S. I don't think that's an Software problem , I think that's an Hardware problem tho...
EDIT : My 'Menu' and 'Home' buttons are officially dead now... R.I.P. !
I have the same problem... After updatee from 7.1.3 to 7.5.1 and to 8.0.1. I tried with custom ROM, with stop Tapatalk... But without success. I tried also with another launcher and they start to work for only 10 minutes.. tried also with wipe cache! This is very big problem

That's not a Software problem , that's a Hardware problem...
In my case all started yesterday... Menu and Home keys started to autopress/not working and until night they stopped working at all , completely dead ! That happened suddenly , I never had that problem or have dropped my phone , never !
Also I read that many Xiaomi have this problem including Redmi Note 3 and even Mi5
R.I.P. Soft keys !
Now they work again after whole day that they don't worked at all now suddenly starting to autopress again and works pressing them :/ They worked again ( including autopressing ) just for few minutes and then not working again..
I'm starting not to understand this device at all !

Acutally it's software problem... I'm sure because when i deinstall Taptalck updates, they start work correctly for around 15-40 minutes. After that they just died. After install new launcher (from Gplay) they start to work again. So im pretty sure that, this is software problem... But from MIUI dont care about our problems

I don't know... I'm using exactly the same apps like always , never had that problem ever with any ROM... Last night I flashed Stable 8.0.2.0 , they worked for few minutes and then dead again !
I still think that's an Hardware problem , but I really hope I'm wrong and you're right to be a Software problem..
If was harfwer problem, when we make clean instal, we sshould have the same problem without any reaction of the button...

I thought buying new LCD too but it takes too long to deliver and I read some bad reviews about them : not original , dead pixels , crash during transport , etc. I'm thinking buying a new device maybe...
Anyway I'm really curious about your new LCD , so please tell me when it arrive and how it works :fingers-crossed:
Btw you bought just the LCD or LCD+frame ?

I had the same problem. If you are using custom rom, you can activate on screen home button and disable softkeys, this may help for a while.
But it still will make some phantom touch on your screen. Finally I sent to repair and they changed another screen for me
Hello dear friend! I changed my display... And now everything is good. Buttons work properly. And I have good news for you. I just finished with one test: I put the old screen again on the phone and now the buttons work again... I just heating up the display when I was removed the old screen. U can try to heat up your phone on the button of the screen with hairdryer gently. Or just disassembly your phone and assembly again if u have any questions I'm here
@vetefan I already disabled Home and Menu buttons because it was really annoying to always get out of apps suddenly without pressing anything !
@ZinovievBG Hey mate ! Few weeks ago I opened my device to clear dust in front camera and also I cleared everything in it including a bit display stuff ( you can't really clean too much display because it's one piece ). I'll try heating soft buttons with hairdryer and see if it works. One question : this heating solved the problem definitely or just for a temporary period ?

Anybody have any ideas why my volume buttons would stop working after prolonged use? They would work initially but after a few hours they would stop functioning and would need a reboot to work again. Thank you for the help!
I'm facing the same problem, no solution yet.
Same happened to me once. Only a restart fixed it. But haven't had the issue since.
The problem is recurring after a couple of restart
Agree, restart fixes it but after some time of use , the volume buttons stop working again .hope the community can find a solution since it's definitely a software issue and hope Xiaomi fixes this
same problem here, i found out, that if i open a game or something who i use volume buttons (spotify, deezer etc) than i loose control of buttons and i need to restart. No fix yet. Factory reset did not helped.
Did some testing and figured out that the issue occurs everytime I clear the recents menu.
in which menu
i have deinstall Android accessibility suite, i am Test
I followed the 2nd procedure and thankfully it worked.

i have the same problem on mi mix 2s, what is the "2nd procedure" to fix it ?
I'm struggling with my volume button. At first I thought they just broke since they don't work when I press them. However, when I restart my phone, they work for some time and stop working for no apparent reason.
I figured I should maybe change my ROM to see if that makes a difference. Any recommendations?
