[Q] Xperia z2 charging problem... - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am xperia z2 user since july 2014.
Until tooday everything was fine.
Onw hour ago i started playing Angry birds epic, and phone got really warm.
After few minutes i noticed that i have low level of battery, so i puted it on magnetic charger, and...nothing. It didnt start to charge. So i connected USB plug and also no reaction.
Phone is working except that it is not charging , and even in a basic menu it gets warmer then usual.
Any ideas??

Soft reset it. Hold volume up + power until3 vibrations

Or let it cool down first

I tried this way and it does not work.

I have z2 with same problem but I solved it
I have z2 with same problem it started with me after I bought the magnetic cable charger since then and the usb cable keeps bilnking on and off and the battery drain instead of charge and I can onlycharge the mobile using the magnetic cable..... I read here that the cause of the problem could be connecting the magnetic cable upside down and I did it by mistake and then the usb problem started so to solve my problem i connected the magnetic cable upside down once again and then connected the usb cable and its working but if I used the magnetic cable again the problem come back to raise so I do the same by connecting the magnetic cable in a invert way.

Hi, i probably have the same issue. Have you connected both cables at the same time to solve it?

USB car charger

Does anybody charge their TyTN in car via a usb car charger. I use a usb car charger for different devices: Bluetooth headset, gps reciever...
I also used it to recharge my Blue Angel.
Unfortunately I can't charge the TyTN. Has anyone had the same issue?
The charger says that it can charge 1Ampere. The original home charger is also 1 Ampere, so I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Have tried it with two different usb car chargers and both have the same problem: It charges only if TyTN is turned off. When I switch it on then the red charging light turns off.

I had similar problems except I didn't need to swithc the pda. I saw the usb charge couldn't charge completly or it was very slow to charge if I had screen with light or TomTom running.
I solved using a diferent charger, that generates 220 volts. It has 140W and costs around 40 euro.
Do you have a link, a picture or a brand name to this product?

Same problem.
I was told by the dealer that it's a matter o cable (the pins in the cable)
the one sold with the device is fine just to sync and charge from pc, but can't charge through car adapter.
I'm bought a new cable (arriving next week): it's a double cable, one side for pc, other side for charging.
if it works, I'll post..
bye
I'm afraid to tell you that your new cable will not work. You were not well informed. I am sure that it is not a cable problem, but a charger problem. According to me the power output expressed in Amps (Ampere) is not strong enough even though it says that it's 1 Ampere as the mains charger. Those cheap chinese made chargers are not strong enough for the TyTN. That's why it charges when the TyTN is switched off but as soon as you switch it on, the power output from usb car charger is not enough.

mmhhh, I'll wait the new cable, hoping it works ;.)
the fact is that with original cable the car adapter doesn't charge even if the device is off..
same thing with a 220V usb adapter.
only the original kit seems to work..
I'll tell you in a few days
btw: both adapter are chinese ;-)
Nope, Lio is right on this one. The car charger simply doesn't supply enough juice to charge the TyTN. O2 Exec users have had this problem for ages.
I use the charger bought from the Orange shop for the spv c500. Works fine, if a little slowly.
There are strange things happening!
The USB cable should not enter in to the equation as USB is USB and the pins should be wired correctly.
Here is what I have found.
If charging in the car all is ok until the power is cut, then it only charges whilst off until the TYTN is soft reset. This looks to me like there is a software / powercontroller confilct. It is a little confusing but see the scenarios below;
Soft reset TYTN, leave it off. Plug in to cigarette charger, turn TYTN on/off all is fine.
Turn off TYTN and unplug, all is fine, plug back in (TYTN off) will still charge when TYTN on.
Turn TYTN on, unplug, will not charge whilst on anymore until soft reset but will charge whilst off.
This is the same if I turn the ignition to power the lightere socket.
However, another spanner in the works, if I pull out the charger even with the device off and re-insert it it stops charging until soft reset.
What seemd to work best was to do a soft reset whilst the unit is charging and powered on. After that I was able to unplug, plug in even when the unit was on, turn ignition off/on etc... It only reverted back to not charging when I removed the charger from the socket as it was charging.
These are my findings and I presume each charger will be different.
I presume whatever electronics are in the chargers also causes problems. I have tried 2 USB and one fully wired charger and it is the same with all. I know for a fact that at least 2 of them have overcharge circuitry built in but do not think the 3rd has, I also presume the TYTN also has so perhaps there is some conflict here also.
I do know that there are car chargers specifically for the TYTN so will try one of those and see if it solves the problem. (anyone tried one?)
Anyone with more ideas please let us know.

Thank you for this tip. Now I can recharge in car thanks to u! I tried it and it works.
Great Lio,
Glad it worked. When you get a chance, could you pull out the chrger from the lighter socket as it is charging and let me know if it then stops charging again. I just want to see if the same happens to you as it did to me. It will work again once you soft reset whilst plugged in.
Thanks.

I believe this trick should go to FAQ.
A week ago I visited a lot of shops trying many mains-to-USB charges to no avail. I already had one for MP3 player that didn't work too.
After reading your post, I connected the original charger and SRed. Now that another charger works!
Can't imagine what's the reason but it really works.

Same here.
Is this a bug in the software ?
I found this : http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138248
I think it should work fine, I am not sure.
"I found this : http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138248"
Could you contact them and ask about its power rating and whether it is susceptible to the problem/bug?
here I am again.
finally I got the new cable and... surprise... IT WORKS
I used it without soft resetting the device and it worked
I tryed soft resetting the device and it worked
But the biggest surprise of all is that after using the new cable, also the old one started working ..
i guess there must have been a software bug that has gone (hope forever) away.
For those interested, the new cable is a double one: one side is usb, other two sides are charge connector and hotsync connector.

have you got a web link for this one you now have?
friend of mine has apparently got a tytn, I'll pick up a 1.2A USB / Car adapter this weekend and see what happens, hopefully the extra .2A should enable the tytn / exec to charge normally in a car.
Having had an exec for a while I will agree that most 12v/USB adapters struggle with the exec, but hopefully this will make the difference, if it works I will post the details of the company selling them (they are listed for the PSP)
I haven't had this trouble. Just got my new MDA Vario II and I've used it with my old MDA compact mains charger and the car USB charger and it works with no problems.
Tried it with the Vario II on and off and have a charging light on both.

Just use a miniUSB cable and plug it into your computer. Any USB wall charger should work. I've used iPhone USB chragers with a miniUSB cable, Nikon camera chargers, as well as a Motorola one. You just need to plug it into any USB port either on a wall or on your computer. Leave the device off while it charges overnight.
Problem with charged
I use both ways but no result , phone indicates to charged but battery not charging.Charger is original and consists of two parts: the charger and mini usb cable .When i run it sometimes on the displays show this message : The charging current is not enough for device power consumption. Please shut down unused applications , or switch to AC adapter. And I do not use any applications. I tried to load phone in the off position , indicates that the charger is ON but the battery is not charging .Please help if someone has the same problem

Try it with a different miniUSB cable. If you don't have one handy, miniUSB cables go for pennies on Amazon or eBay. You can find them in retail stores for about 10 dollars or so as well. If the cable isn't the problem, then it is either a problem with the charge port on the device, or the battery. It's far cheaper to trouble shoot the cable, so let's just start with that.
Sound like the charger is insufficient power, even though it says 1A. Try charging from a computer USB port and see if it charges. HTC don't list TP2 as suitable for this charger.
I am also facing same problem. LED shows charging but phone does not charge. And when I insert charger "USB TO PC" page shows up, Like I have connected the phone to PC.
Please Help...
I just had an issue charging which turned out to be an easy fix.
The led would come on and the icon would show charging but it wasn't increasing the battery %. Then I would get a message about the power not being enough and to plug it into a charger. I tried several chargers and was getting the same thing happening. I blew a few puffs into the charging port which looked clean and it was still happening. I wiggled the cable/plug in the port and occassionally the charging light would go on and off. The charging led even started to go on and off with the phone just sitting still on my table. I feared that my charging port had gone bad so I ordered 2 spare batteries and battery charger from ebay for $10 (works well and battery life good).
While waiting for the ebay purchase to arrive I did some reading up and saw that pins could be bent etc. In my fustration I used a pair of tweezers to gently scrape the charging port pins/contacts (in a straight direction). Then I used an old toothbrush and firmly brushed out the usb port - a whole bunch of lint and stuff come out of the port even though it had previously looked clean.
I plugged in my charger and bingo! My charging issue was gone.

That was the biggest problem with MiniUSB was the width and height of those ports. It's a haven for stray dust and dirt. They need to be brushed out every so often, especially when you just drop it in you pocket.
hi buy and it schould work
buy a new charging cable

I was facing the same charging problem and was looking for a solution. And i found this forum and read it and did the same thing and my problem is fix.. I can charge my mobile now. Thanks a lot for the great help.
Sarchy Minimum
All of these dumb charges, ie bricks in the wall, use the unused USB pins to communicate how much power they can provide. There are some resistors they put on the D-/D+ to say this is a 700ma charger or whatever. Trouble is that there are limited standards on these resistors so it's more than possible that a phone will charge but not enter high current charging when attached to a new brick in the wall. The cables however are more universal.

Z Ultra has Charging problems

Recently I got a Z Ultra with a deal with my dad. It's been fine so far, but then I ran onto a bump.
Charging seems a little "Annoying". The phone persists I use a Magnetic cable for charging, and every time I charge, whenever I unpkug the device, It shows that its still charging. Even the led is on. (Note, i just unplugged the charging cable!)
A fix which I do is plugging the magnetic cabke inverted, without being plugged to any wall adapter. But even after that, as soon as I charge, It still persists.
Is this a hardware problem? Software?
Note: it DOES charge with a regular microUSB cable... But it doesnt even fill up the battery.

Xperia Z2 not charging with USB Cable but works normally with the magnetic charger

So, it started while I was charging my phone in my car and all good. I had to remove the USB cable from the charger and put it back in, but it never worked again. At first I thought it was the charger or the cable but as soon as I got back home I realized it was not.
When the phone is switched off, the red LED turns on when i connect it to the charger but it does not charge. Also the blue LED turns on when connected to USB cable while pressing the up volume key. can not detect it on PC when it is fully on however.
I tried another battery but it didn't charge also. Got a magnetic cable and tried to charge it and then it worked!!
Flashed a new rom but still not working.
Any suggestions? Thanks

This was not expected. This is a typical issue if you plug-in the magnetic cable upside-down.
Anyway it seems your phone has a hardware issue: To be more specific the mainboard has one faulty diode - the whole mainboard has to be replaced.

Magnet Charging Cable Question

I've got this http://uae.souq.com/ae-en/z3-titanium-magnetic-charging-cable-with-smart-led-color-change-indicator-for-sony-xperia-black-7770328/i/#Reviews cable a few days ago. And It was charging fine as it should. But today I did something stupid/funny. I've connected the cable opposite side, display was off when I connected it. But after that when I was trying to turn on my device display, I realized it's not turning on. When I connected it to stock charger/wall charger. It was blinking yellow and after a minute it was blinking red. And got damn my device doesn't want to turn on  Tried to hard reset, still nope. Then I've removed all cards(sim/sd) and connected the device to my pc and boom! it turned on. Thanks to God! :silly: After that I tried to reconnect the magnet cable in right direction XD. And now the device indicator is blinking yellow(Charging on/off) And also when I connect the magnet charger do the device without connecting it to any usb slot, It lights blue. The thing is the cable is not charging my device like it should after connecting it in opposite direction for a few second.
Now my question is : The cable is dead or my device magnet port got screwed?

If you inversely connect it to your phone, the cable instantly become a magnetic port killer and so your magnetic port is killed in this incident.

Should have brought the WSKEN Mag Charger
I once tried connecting the opposite way the charger would just turn off because of some safety feature. Did that three or four times.
Cable and phone works fine also the cable is well-built.
You can get it for the same price from AliExpress and it delivers to UAE as well.

Don't know if, I've to replace magnetic flex cable to fix (battery not charging after 96-97% and device goes on/off when battery is charged with green indicator on/off as well)
I also did a fully discharge on my device today and charged it when device was off. And it charged to 100% now time to see if it can charge back to 100% when the device is on. (But device still goes on/off with green indicator on/off. When device is charged)
I read somewhere in this community that downgrade to kk solve problem.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Update :
Looks like battery or device mb screwed!! Battery won't charge after 96-97-98% and display goes on/off on/off when it reach 96-97-98% and after that green indicator + charging indicator goes on/off as well.
Not going to touch magnetic charging cable anymore XD
