I have recently installed cyanogen on my desire and have found the mod to be an absolute joy to use. The one irritation however has been the automatic screen dimming. Every 6 or 7 seconds or so the screen dims itself. This can become very annoying when reading long messages or any other text. I have looked on lots of threads but have found no answer to my question. Surely there must be a simple solution to turn off this automatic dimming setting?
Thanks

I think....(not exactly sure) but that may be apart of the actual rom, if there is no setting under display then its probaly built in that way. Under settings/display you can change the screen time out if that help
reply
I've played around with all the settings myself and have so far been unsuccessful. Its not a problem really, just a bit annoying. I just find it hard to believe such an awesome mod doesn't have a simple off switch.
If anyone knows of a way to extend the screen dimming then that will help too.
I think what you're looking for is the Sleep setting. Go under Settings -> Display -> Sleep, and select a longer time interval if needed. Your current setting might be set to sleep after 15 seconds, causing the screen to dim at 6-7 seconds. Change it to maybe 1-2 minutes.
yes you can. Put the widget 'Power Control" on the home screen and you can do it easily from there. Thats how i do it.
Recently I installed cm 12 but I have a problem ie the screen backlight is always on when the screen is off........I need help.....

but the brightness adusting is also not working
I recently got a strange touchscreen issue.
When the device comes out of deep sleep (turn on the screen with power button) my touchscreen behaves weird. Normally, when I touch the unlock slider, it follows my finger. But not now....it's like long press is not recognized. I am able to unlock the screen by wiping my finger to unlock. But the slider is not following my finger. The strange thing is, after about 10 seconds, the issue is gone, and the slider follows my finger....
Also long press on the homescreen is not working during the first 10 seconds.
What I tried to solve:
I completely wiped the phone and reinstalled .42 firmware. Then updated tot ICS using Sony Update Service and also completely wiped my phone. The problem still there...then I flashed a custom ROM (shardur_seth spacious...and also his firmware) but the problem stille there.
Anyone else experienced this? Or any solutions I could try? It was there suddenly....could it be a hardware problem? But why is it gone after 10 seconds?
Thnx for your help
it happens for me sometimes, but most of the time when someone calling me i cannot at slide to answer. what im doing is i just press power button ones and it will silence and press the home key and it will work the slide key...

i face the same problem
my phone is in service center for repair
see the video below and check if ur problem is the same
Sounds like your phone is just sluggish, you're probably running too much in the background/have too much installed on the phone and it takes a while for the RAM to optimally load everything you need again after having cleared some of it whilst the phone was in sleep mode.

Yes, that's exactly the problem.....I also have the problem that I cannot longpress the home screen...U have the same issue? After 10 seconds or after tapping the screen multiple times, the issue is gone until the phone goes to sleep.
I too had this issue and narrowed it down to the sluggishness due to deep sleep.
What I did was,
1) Flash nightelf kernel
2) Installed Set CPU
3) Make profiles for Screen Off
4) Whenever I have the governor as "performance" I never had the issue
5) After lot of permutation combination, I fixed a screen off profile as 460max and 134 Min with conservative as governor.
6) Also added a new profile for "In Call" with "performance" governor.
The problem was gone. Yes, it happens once in a while but much better than the situation before.

Tried using your settings..first I had governor set to performance...but the problem still persists. Wheneven I turn on the screen I have the issue. It is possible to unlock the screen if I wipe fast enough....but it really is strange...why is the issue gone after a couple of wipes or some touchscreen pressess..
Could it be a hardware error....a sensor not getting ready or something? But why is the problem gone when the screen is on for a while.....

me also having same problem and touch is awesome but when the lock is open then this problem will occur and it will open after 2 to 3 attempts..
what's this i think this is not an hardware problem this is only the software ??//??
i have the same problem too. i think there is a problem with cpu.
I had these sometimes with certain combinations of kernel and ROM. Actually it's gone... (Alliance V1/JJs Hybrid ROM 3.1)
I suppose it's a combination of hardware and software configuration...
Anyone tried to higher the minimum CPU speed?

i tried. also i tried to set governor to different versions. and i tried nightelf rc5 kernel. nothing changed. problem still there.
today i realized that's not about only touchscreen. sometimes phone freezing.
problem with neo (mt15i) touch screen
use alliance night-elf v1.1 kernel.I had this problem but when I flash this kernel to my neo my touch screen works good same as the first day...
Well....for me suddenly the problem is solved!!!!
I'm very glad that my display is working again! It has been for about 3 months since I was facing the problem.
Unfortunately I do not have a clear solution to this, but I can explain what I did that day, and hopefully the solution is in there. But I can not garantee it.
What I did that day
1. I tried to get beats audio working, so I had installed a numerous of Beats libs. (see xda-developers for some of those libs). The last one I tried was Walkman port by ThilinaC. Not sure how this can be related to the display issue
2. I flashed a new rom. But this time I formatted /system and /data in CWM. Normally I just did a factory reset and installed the new rom. (but guess factory reset also formats /system and /data)
Still....guess this has nothing to do with the display
3. I did a offline charge. When my phone was empty I wanted to charge it fast. So I switched off my phone, and then connected the charger to offline charge the phone.
Really not sure how the above points could be a solution to de display failure, but guess if it was the digitizer that was the problem, it's strange that it is fixed out of knowhere....but the above actions are what I did that day....so maybe it's helpful and is the solution in there...maybe.
I'm glad the problem is gone
Yes, I am facing this exact problem, I am going to take my mobile to the service center !!!.
Hello,
I got a G9 101 8GB version from a friend of mine. Almost everything is working fine (except touchscreen going crazy at times, registering touch on place where it did not happen, or eveen when not touching the tablet at all). But the big annoyance is that my brightness control is not working.
I can slide the slider around as much as I want to, it does not change the brightness. And because the screen has the biggest power consumption, this is really annoying, as the brightness is set at max.
Tried serching on this topic, found nothing.
I have reseted the tablet to factory settings, updated it, nothing helped. Any ideas? Thanks.
For your touch screen issue is it the same as this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912138
Have you tried any 3rd party apps to see if they are able to adjust brightness ?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Thank you for replying.
The touchscreen issue is a bit different, it occurs only occasionally and only in corner (ie it pushes back or "menu", depending how I hold the tablet). That is not a big issue now as it occurs sparely.
The brightness control is persistent. I tries some apps and widgets for brightness control, I can do what I want, it wont dim down . Any suggestions?
Also I would like to be reassurd - Archos has 1,5A AC charger, am I right?
Thanks.

If you got terminal emulator or adb installed you can go "ghetto" and adjust the value in the sysfs, try "su -c 'echo 50 > /sys/class/leds/lcd-backlight/brightness'". needs root obviously and it's far from ideal but it will get the job done.

Thanks. Today the weirdest thing happened, I was playing a game and the screen dimmed a bit. At first I was like oh no, it is broken.. But now, the brightness control just works. Absolutely no idea what happened.
Now if I could figure out the ghost touches, they occur only, or better said mostly (90%) after starting the devide from sleep and only in the right down corner. After I mutlitouch the device many times it stops. Lol.
Anyway, really thanks for trying to help me. Appreciated.

Ahh the old Fixed it's self method of repair  There is a program in the background on archos tablet call autodim, maybe something like that was locking it.... Meh!
Got a problem, especially when typing (with any keyboard) where the screen image suddenly boats up in size and any further typing or backspacing produces only gibberish. I can get it back to normal, temporarily, by tapping three times on the screen. Anyone ever see this happen?

what is the current OS version of your tablet? if it is 4.3, update it to 4.4.4... else you have to enable the hardware overlay in the dev options in settings.

I recently unlocked bootloader and installed custom ROM in my Redmi note 4(modo).After installing custom ROM touch screen goes unresponsive after waking from sleep. After restart the touchscreen works without any issues until the phone goes to sleep. The problem does not occur in miui.Only occur in custom ROM.Tried aosp extended,rr ROM,pixel experience ROM,ion os ROM the problem occurs in all above custom ROM.All the above ROM are pie based.
that is weird for sure
i didnt face any thing like that before
Yes that is very weird
did you changed your display panel for some reason?
if yes then it might be the issue. i have also faced this screen freeze issue on mido on which i changed display on my own from alixpress after broken screen, may be the lcd driver did not match! Try Havoc OS. it might work as its working for me. Weird!!
Hey i have solution for that
Just open back panel of your device remove the battery connection and connect it again & reboot again
(Note : before removing back panel 1st remove Sun tray)

Thanks Man. I too had the same problem. I repaired my broken screen from a local shop. And after installing custom room like AOSP extended and pixel experience, I faced the same issue. But after every restart it worked fine and screen freezed after lock down again. Now I have been using havoc os for nearly a month. Freezing occurred a few times for the first two or three days. But now it works like a charm. I don't know the actual problem but this works for me. Am using havoc os 2.4. Android pie version.
