Hi all,
I was trying to downgrade my HTC Flyer (3G and WiFi EU version, HTC_001) to gingerbread. Everything seemed to work as instructed but I'm now stuck on the white loading screen with the HTC logo on it, and can neither boot or communicate with the device.
For the downgrade I followed the instructions on this thread really carefully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428104
I was using the 2.23.405.3 RUU.
To begin with, I'd upgraded to honeycomb by following Paul's guide, that had all been working fine for the last 6 months or so.
I've managed to power down the flyer through the adb fastboot, but that's as far as I can get. I'm not very experienced with this, so if anyone can make some suggestions on steps I could take to get my flyer working again I'd really appreciate it.
Many thanks,
Andii
Get into hboot and tell me your hboot version and if it says unlocked. I think you followed the wrong procedure and likely have hc hboot with gb system or something like that
Hi,
Thank you for replying. My Hboot is 6.11.1111
Does it say unlocked at the top or s off

I don't know, because it won't turn on now...
when I went through the process of the downgrade, at one point it gave me an instruction which involved locking. The command prompt said it was "already locked".
If it is not charging you will have to try to charge the battery independent of your flyer. There are some threads showing how to do this. Google it. I think you were soff hc and you flashed gb. The ruu can not overwrite the soff hboot so you are left with miss match parts thus no charge

Thanks so much for your help. I've found some of those threads; I've gotta say, It looks pretty complex and I think taking it apart is way beyond my capacity to sort. Rather regretting getting into this now, lesson learned! Is there no other option? If I send it off, obviously my warranty is voided, but will they repair it (at my cost of course)?
I'll read the charging threads thoroughly, but am really anxious about the process.
They should be able to repair it easily

Greets,
I've more or less exactly the same problem. I was on some Leedroid Custom HC version. For upgrading to a newer Leedroid Version I was downgrading back to Gingerbread using globatrons Downgrade Thread.
Worked fine until first reboot.
First I used RUU_Flyer_TMO_DE_2.27.111.1 (cause I have a 3G/Wifi T-Mobile branded device)
and later I tried again via this RUU_Flyer_HTC_WWE_2.23.405.3 (Stock version?!)
Still not working.
Here some details:
I still can access this revolutionary Bootloader (Vol Down + Power) and I think fastboot commands are still useable.
Here's what is written there
FLYER PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBoot Version is 6.11.1111
MICROP-0950
RADIO-3809.07.04.06_M
eMMC-boot
You have an idea how to fix it?
Thanks in advance !

Hej,
I used the downgrade procedure from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18508210&postcount=1 starting from "Downgrade".
I didn't create a goldcard, I was "just" using the RUUs mentioned in my last post.
Thx!
Your hboot said s off. To me that means you had s off hc which could not be downgraded using the method you tried. You likely have hc hboot and gb system. Go to easy s off hc thread and look at post 3. Download the correct downgrade package, 3G or wifi, follow instructions. Then flash gb ruu or gb rom

Hey Mcord,
thank you very much for your help, worked fine for me!
Now I just set up the gingerbread base (in S-OFF) on which I can install my ROM, didn't I?
It's written in the post that I can use the base for installing a HC Custom ROM (which was my intention) - can I just drop the Leedroid-ROM-ZIP on my SDcard and install it right away via the Bootloader?
Thanks again!
You have me all confused now. You were on hc with s off, why were you looking to go back to gingerbread? You could of just flashed the rom. Now you are on gb s off. To be able to flash hc roms use light package in op of same thread to get back to hc s off then flash lee rom.
What made you think you had to go back to gingerbread
I read somewhere in here http://www.modaco.com/topic/345950-...g-honeycomb-on-your-flyer-the-complete-guide/ that you need to go back to Gingerbread before installing another HC custom release. I was wondering a bit myself, though.
In Leedroid FAQ also globatron's instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19607802&postcount=1) are linked at the Install FAQ. So I was just working off the instructions. First time flashing to Honeycomb was also more or less like this - I was on some GB version and I had to downgrade to a lesser version number of GB before actually going to Leedroids HC release; so this time I was not questioning myself for a sense behind it ^^
With light package I guess you mean the Instructions Part 2 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19607802&postcount=1 this thread?
3 has the light updates meant to be used if you intend on flashing a rom immediately. You got confused a bit with s off and htc dev unlock. You were s off and free to flash roms
Hi I just got my flyer back from repair htc it was stock gingerbread when it went in even though I requested not to upgrade it in written notice they did the upgrade to honeycomb I want to get it back down to gingerbread what are my options from here Hboot reads s-on Hboot 1.11.00.11 any help would be appreciated to get me back to gingerbread
There are a couple of full length treads on this. Take a look in the development section
Its ok i managed to do it all back to gingerbread with s off and custom recovery.
How?
How did you s-off?
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428104
HC root
I upgraded to HC using a OTA update and have Hboot 1.11.00.11. Device is a bestbuy wifi model. It has never been rooted, completely virgin. I would like to root to use apps requiring root access. I have collected that I will need to downgrade back to GB in order to do this. Is there a way that I can downgrade to GB, root, then upgrade back to HC? or will I have to keep GB? I just want to stay with a stock rom for the time being.
Thanks.
yes
there is a thread in development by globatron that spells out how to downgrade without htc dev unlock
once on GB you can use revolutionary to gain s off then follow globatron's easy hc s off thread
Ok, the downgrade thread you talk about is this: Here
Then use this thread to get S-OFF on GB: Here
Then use step two of this thread: Here
Is this correct?
yep
Also, one last question. When globatron says "Run your RUU" what does he mean?
A ruu is a exe file that contains and flashes the stock firm ware for your flyer. There are many variations
Ah ok, thanks! I thought it was similar to a rom file and needed to be loaded on your device and flashed in a special way. Thanks!
I have an HTC EVO 3D That I purchased yesterday, and It's been flashed to Boost Mobile (A company owned and operated by Sprint) Boost is a CDMA service. I am interested in rooting my device, but when I tried this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218193 I was stopped because my HBOOT isn't supported. Baffled, I went searching the forums and found this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695 unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's safe to proceed with this procedure, because I wasn't there when my phone was flashed, and I don't know if HTC Dev was used. Furthermore, I don;t know if I have S-On of S-OFF, because I didn't flash my phone. Also, it has come to my understanding that linux is required for that method of HBOOT downgrade. Is there any way I can avoid that? It's kind of a lot of trouble.
You can check if you're s-on or s-off by looking at the top of the hboot screen. Pull the batt, put it back in, hold vol down + power.
If you don't have s-off, the downgrade is easy, linux is easy. After the downgrade you have to use revolutionary.io to achieve s-off and it'll likely screw up your boost flash. I'll edit with a thread link for prepping to downgrade with a carrier flashed phone.

Hboot says I have S-ON. By following the steps in that link you'll give, will I be able to restore my flash without losing MMS and 3G, etc.?
I'm really not sure, I've never flashed a phone. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want s-off? It's nice to have because it makes flashing roms easier but its not required to flash roms, and if your not sure you can flash your phone back, its probably not worth the risk.

Well the whole idea is that i need to downgrade HBOOT in order to root, and I was under the impression that to downgrade Hboot i needed to have S-OFF.
No, you just need to unlock at htcdev. Then you can root, give me a sec and ill give you another link. Once you think you can flash your phone to boost, I suggest getting s-off. Just less issues with s-off flashing.
Edit... A lot of guides out there, check the roll up sticky thread. This one will probably work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821

THank man, i wish i could click thanks a thousand times. I'll try this method and see what i get.
Any time.. btw, you might be able to do the wire trick to get s-off without messing up the flash. It's in the dev section, called something like junoputabear s-off. Ask in that thread, maybe someone will know.

I got root, and recovery but for some reason the fastboot method wher you extrtact the boot.img and use fastboot to load recovery doesn't work for ICS roms, they bootloop. I found a working Gingerbread rom and I like it. Only issue is i wanted an ICS app. Btw, which gapps should I flash for 2.3.4?

From what I remember, if you boot a recovery from fastboot (fastboot boot recovery.img), you wouldn't need to extract any boot image. When you boot a recovery from fastboot, you'll be able to write to the boot partition, so all you need to do is flash the rom and it should work. With that said, I've read a lot of times that flashing ics roms with s-on will cause bootloops. I've never seen that personally, I was s-off before ics came along.

You probably know this but ill say it just incase. You only flash gapps on aosp roms. I think all the ics gapps say ics in the name, and most of the time gapps for any rom are linked in the same thread as the rom.
Look at your pm in a little bit. I'm gonna send you some stuff that'll help you figure out how to correctly flash a phone so that you can s-off without worry. I can't really post it here.

Picked a 3D up on CL, clean ESN, $50, I couldn't pass it up. In great shape, so I'm a couple weeks into this, read, read, read, and managed to get the wire trick to work on 1.58 so I'm S-Off. Now what?
I guess my main question is, I'm reading S-off trumps all, but how exactly does your HBOOT version affect what ROMs you can load? Is it tied to Kernel basically? Or the base the ROM works on?
This hasn't been so clear in my search education.
I'm running Trib's SolidROM ver 2.1, at the moment (which is stellar), but I'm a flashaholic in need of a fix every few days... and there are so many options, but I can't seem to see the forest for the trees...
Thanks in advance. This place rocks.

Well there are very few rom's that are compatible with the 1.58 hboot so if your a flashoholic then you better off going to hboot 1.40 since with 1.40 hboot you can run both ICS & GB. GB has better compatibility in fact it can only play the 3d games and older gameloft games.
If you downgrade to a lower hboot please let me know how it went because I am thinking of upgrading to 1.58 to try out a new rom but I am afraid to because I am already s-off hboot 1.4.

90% sure of the following information.
Roms that are based directly on the Sprint ICS OTA require 1.58, some roms have used some tricks to let it run on 1.50 like SolidROM did.
1.58 for you means u can flash any ROM and not bootloop.
S-OFF means u can flash a rom FULLY, some of these ROMS have custom Kernels, and without flashing the kernel u get bootloops. u can also add your own Kernel.
so in conclusion your in good shape. u can flash Gingerbread- VM ICS - sprint ICS.
just be sure to stay away from changing your HBOOT, especially any VM firmware!
Hboot 1.58: Can load the new ICS kernel and all sense ICS ROMs. Cannot load AOSP and GB ROMs.
Hboot 1.4 (and others): Can load most ROMs (sense with vm leak kernel, GB, AOSP). Cannot load the new ICS kernel (or any ROM with that).
hboot 1.5 s-off
How can I go back to my original hboot 1.5 s-off, the other day I flashed MeanROM ICS v2.6 and upgrade my hboot to 1.58, for the 2.89 kernel
I also try out SOS M | VER 2.6, and ZR3DX-Sense 3.6, wifi teather will not work on none of those roms, any one know how to get the teathering working. I'm thinking of going back to hboot 1.5 s-off any one know how to go back to 1.5 s-off.

Thanks! This worked great. My research had me thinking the only way to do this was a ridiculously complex 15 step process.
I did the OTA update to ICS and hboot 1.58 and was trying to flash to PagePlus but ran into problems doing "APN Backup and Restore"; it's not allowed on ICS, I tried to go back to a gingerbread ROM but it kept bootlooping because I had hboot 1.58. Your advice got me back to hboot 1.50, then I installed an old cyanogenmod ROM, so I can do the APN backup.
So i was having the ghost touch issues on my phone for the past 2 weeks and thought maybe just to take it into sprint. So i had to unroot, RUU, etc and it was having the same issues. Took it into sprint and they said they ran diagnostics on it and nothing was wrong but when i got home it was doing the same thing. But now im updated on 2.89 and HBoot 1.58 and want to know how to root, s-on or s-off doesnt matter, and also downgrade so i can got back to aosp ROMs or Mazda's and also sense ROMs. So if anyone can help it wuld be greatly appreciated. P.S Yes i've searched this topic and it just came up with a lot of different pages and methods so telling me to search before asking isnt necessary.

You can try my guide which was designed to get you from any build with S-ON to a rooted, S-OFF Sprint ICS configuration as easily as possible. You can probably skip the first step, which is flashing the 2.89.651.2 RUU.exe, since it sounds like they did that already when they worked on your phone.
If they did the OTA instead you could have problems with the HTC unlock, so if that happens just go back and flash the RUU.exe.
Good luck!

Unable to downgrade HBOOT 1.53.0007 to 1.49.0007
Hi, yesterday I decided to "upgrade" my sister's HTC EVO3D GSM to make unlock, root...also S-OFF if needed to flash any ROM, but it was the first time i was flashing EVO3D so it was whole day I sit at the computer watchin&reading tutorials and this forum before I could do anything...finally i partially succed, I made unlock by HTCdev method, flashed recovery via fastboot...flashed ROM from recovery, but I wanted to install CM9 ROM by agrabren and surely it wasnt working, because the phone is no HBOOT 1.53.0007...
So for the instance, the phone:
Is HTC EVO3D GSM
was on stock ICS 4.0.3 OTA rom
HBOOT 1.53.0007 S-ON
UNLOCKED S-ON by htcdev method
followed this thread to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28106291 and flash ROM
Then it's working on ICS NonSense® 4.0
but i want to try CM9/10/AOKP ROMs so i realized i need to downgrade HBOOT to 1.49.0007 and get revolutionary S-OFF so i tried to follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471246
The first method copying mmcblk0p31.img to sdcard and here im stuck....I dont understand why, but the command "adb shell dd....." copies mmcblk0p31 file of 16kB size and total empty content, so I cant change any version to 1.20.720.1 and cant downgrade....
So how to solve this problem? Is it cause that first I need to get hboot 1.53 S-OFF?
Thanks for the reply...
//Im sorry my post is also located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833367 where is I think better place for it and I didnt find how to delete it from here...
