My recently acquired S4 was rooted and running 4.4.2/NC5 and SafeStrap 3.72 just fine. Then I went and flashed Hyperdrive 18.1
Now I have Hyperdrive 18.1 rom running but no more root access, Safestrap recovery, or Wifi access.
I'm not sure where to go from here, and can't seem to find any golden nuggets in the forums. Anyone?

Towelroot.com for root. Download the APK and install. Go into the app and "make it rain". SuperSU from the playstore. Busybox installer from the play store. Go into Busybox and "install busybox". Download the Safestrap APK of the XDA thread. Install the APK. Go into Safestrap and "install recovery". Boot into Safestrap and flash this.... https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358539843 for the wifi. Profit.

Amen! Thanks, that was good advice. I'm back to having root, safestrap, and wifi. Incidentally, was I supposed to set SeLinux to permissive before installing Safestrap? I vaguely remember watching an S4 video that said that I should do that to be sure safestrap installed correctly.
Next time flash the supersu.zip in safestrap immediately after the rom.

You can. I never have I do not think. If you have issues you can always uninstall/reinstall.

Hey guys, I was having the same issue and your advice in this thread fixed it for me.
I've still got two more problems that I thought would be appropriate to ask in this thread;
Most importantly, the GPS seems to be not enabled. I can't find anywhere to enable it and I can't make it show up in the status-bar from the hyperdrive tweaks app.
Also, (and this is more a nuisance, I can live without it for now) the clock doesn't appear at the top of my screen. How can I make that show up?
On a complete side note, besides supporting the developer is there any reason to buy the pro apps? I'm considering buying the 71$ version if everything works well just to support the staff but it seems like a whole lot of money if it doesn't enable any features I'd use. I don't know, on the one hand I want to support the developer, but on the other hand it seems like a lot of money and doesn't go with the spirit of the android platform or modding community in general.

I had the Safestrap, SU and NC5 files already on my SD card. For some reason after flashing 18.1 I lost root. Towelroot saved my ass this morning! Thanks for posting the suggestion.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
As far as I know, the donation option does not unlock anything you do not already have. It only removes the waiting period in accessing HyperDrive Tweaks. If you really like it then donate. I have not heard of the GPS issue before so I can not be of help. As far as the clock, did you try playing around with its location in HyperDrive Tweaks?

No worries; I'm still alive.
Are you sure about the pro keys? I bought the bronze edition and it seems that there are still some settings in the hyperdrive tweaks that are disabled.
I figured out the GPS: The toggle button was in the statusbar, then I rebooted once and it wasn't anymore which is why I freaked. I found out how to choose my buttons in the statusbar so I put the GPS back.
As far as the clock; I've looked through all of the hyperdrive tweaks and paged through all my system settings. I never saw an option to enable or disable the clock, nor did I see an option to change the position. I did changed the clock settings that I saw (like you I thought the OS would magically figure it out if its attention was called to the clock) and it didn't help

All tweaks settings are enabled, the keys are only to get rid of the time delay popup.
All clock settings are in the status bar tab of HD tweaks. "Clock alignment" has the options for its position and visibility.

thank you for posting this here! :good:
Many thanks!
Thanks for this! Works great, feels more fluid... Except doesn't seem to fix the touchscreen deadzones that occur intermittently (but of course that's for Samsung to take care of)
How this update should be installed? Adb?
Edit. Sorry, never mind, this is for N5100 but I have N5100. Waiting for new version for my device.
I am interested in loading this rom on my wife's tablet. I have been flashing rom's on my Motorola Phones for years now and am very comfortable doing so, but a real Novice when it comes to Samsung.
I am on 4.1.2, insecure loader. I have tried both CWM and TWRP recoveries and can use either. I have also used Odin as well.
Question, do I need to wipe data first, and how do I load this rom onto a Samsung Device.
Sorry for the trouble, but I am a fast learner and will be on board soon (I hope)

Since this is an OS upgrade (4.1.2 to 4.2.2) a data wipe is highly suggested. Frankly, I would suggest wiping system, data, cache and dalvik just for good measure. If she wants to keep a lot of the apps' progress/settings she has, I would install Titanium Backup and back up all user apps first before doing anything. She may have everything synced with her Google account as I believe you can sync apps and their data through Google now, but I haven't tested it yet.
To install the ROM, you'd just need to put it somewhere locally on your tablet, I have a '000Flash' folder on the root of my internal SD storage for any ROMs/kernels/modems (on my phone), etc. Place it in there, then get yourself into recovery. Once in recovery, wipe everything I mentioned above, then go back to the install/flash option of whatever recovery you're using. Flash the .zip file you just downloaded and put locally on your tab. Wait a few minutes and boot her up!
Just make sure you have the right software for the right version tablet you have, N5110 vs N5100.

No problem, shouldn't be too different than what you're already used to, but I can understand the need for clarification when it comes to different devices as they're all a little bit different.
OK, on 4.2.2, no problems at all after I found how to turn debugging mode on. THAT IS STRANGE

Also you will need to have CWM or TWRP installed as a custom recovery for it to work. There are plenty of options for installing and the new versions that are non touch should fix any issues uyou had previously. Happy flashing!

I'm all rooted and running the ROM...
This ROM definitely needs a little TLC...
How about putting a list of requests together so maybe we have an Idea of what we can expect?
Here is a thread for customizing this ROM!!!
Here is a link to the Google Edition 4.3 Camera
This works I have it installed. and it is pretty sweet. (even on a 5mp Camera)
I installed xposed framework today and it works well on this ROM. Has anyone else tried this?
You can go here for other mods to add to it...
After you have the Xposed frame work installed you can install the app_settings see attachments, to modify the per app DPI settings.
example, you open up app settings go to gmail, set the dpi to 160 & screen (dp): 1000x1600
I did this for System settings as well and they look nice.
Play around with it and we can build on it...
You can find other mods that you can see if they work and build a list in a new thread. REMEMBER TO BACK UP FIRST!
Ge the disabler in attachments to flash in case you get into a boot loop. These work well since this is a stock ROM.
NottachXposed works very nicely for this ROM... You just have to play with it a little bit, but you can tweak it out nicely...
Don't forget to grab the Multi-Window Manager over in the Themes and app section. It works Great Without any flaws so far...!
If you need a 3-way reboot menu, here is an excellent app here for that...

Can anyone recommend a ROM that is the most secure? (offers SElinux, privacy locks, encryption, etc..) and is minimal in nature? By minimal, I mean no pre-installed apps like Apollo music player or movie editor or things like that. Currently I'm on CM11 for the XT912 and it's okay, but my battery like is sucking horribly.

RU running JBX Kernel?
I am just guessing that Paranoid Android would be for you. Very Clean, minimal added apps. SELinux, as far as I know you can go into build properties to enable/disable or add it if it's not listed. To change its setting, use a value '1' to put SELinux in enforcing mode. Use a value of '0' to put SELinux in permissive mode.
Good luck!

Woops sorry could have provided that...but they are just a few threads below so I never thought...
Ya know, I am not that able when it comes to kernels. For some reason I can't see much difference. If I think a ROM on runnin' is slow or lagging I try JBX. I have also used the new AXXION Kernel. JBX is quicker to recover from should you not like it. I think the PA Kernel is adequate and maybe above average!
So I am going to defer to someone else passing through.

I got it installed and I'm using the default ROM. It seems exactly what I was looking for.
A few questions. First, can I use the OTA update (am I using the right terminology?) when I go to the phone settings and go to the updates menu it shows there's updates. Am I able to install those without it affecting safestrap?
Also, what's the recommended way to set SElinux to enforce mode? I know how to do it on Linux (Fedora, CentOS, etc..), but never had to do it on an android.

OTA should work. I can't remember if I have done one on PA. Basically you download it on the phone, obviously WiFi is best then it will ask if you want to install it. The 'phone' will reboot to Recovery and the update should install.
Remember we're experimental here. If you mess up you simply reinstall with minimal whining!
Here's a link for a SELinux app to change from permissive to enable. No clue if it works!

I've got no problems starting over from scratch. I found a tool/script that does it all and I've messed up things so many times it's down to a science now.
As far as SELinux, I found that tool on the market that is simple enough. It just switches SELinux into enforcing mode and you can change it back to permissive. Simple enough. It's on the Play store and also on the F-droid market.
I have a side question regarding encryption. If I encrypt the phone, does that mess with any of the other ROM slots or will that affect Safe Strap?

Just like in the other UNIX based OS, encryption here encrypts only the set ROM Slots contents and other partitions if selected by the user, like for example if u have a dual boot of Fedora and Ubuntu and if u decide to encrypt the contents of a specific drive having lets say Ubuntu, only that much portion stays under encryption and the Fedora portion stays unencrypted... Thus SafeStrap stays untouched... I suppose that's how it works..!!
P.S.: I could be wrong.. i haven't tested this yet... ill have to dual boot another ROM in another slot and test it... and i am too bored to test it right now... Would probably update the test results if i get drunk enough XD
P.P.S.: Man it feels good to be back on XDA *cheers*
Credit for this goes to another user in another discussion forum. I just wanted to put it in a proper forum to help folks.
Please discuss your victories and defeats with your modules.
I currently use two modules: YouTube Ad Blocker and Greenify Experimental Settings. Test your Greenify settings one at a time. I have found that allowing hibernation of system processes causes an occasional bootloop. I think it's related to just one or two apps, so I'm trying to isolate those.
Xposed APK will be attached momentarily. I have to switch to a desktop.
Thanks!

@urquiagal same here. Glad to hear you are having success with Xposed as well.
I hope more interest in the Venue 8 7840 comes our way. This is an amazing system.
I spoke too soon ...
{sigh}
A couple of nights ago my Venue started bootlooping again, and it wouldn't stop until I uninstalled XPosed. I wanted so badly for this to work.
Is the xposed bootloop issue just a problem with the stock ROM, or does it happen with custom ROMs too? I've never flashed a non-stock ROM on any of my devices, but I think I'd be willing to try with the Venue if that would let me use Greenify's full functionality.
Slightly OT: is it possible to put a Venue 3830 into "safe mode"? Not wanting to do another factory reset (still a pain even with Titanium restore), it took me a LOT of bootloop cycles trying to uninstall xposed in 10-15 second intervals. (And why does the Venue app list only scroll one way?) I finally managed to put the StatsOf icon on the primary home screen, change my settings to open the app list first, sort the app list so that xposed was on the first "page", and long-press the xposed entry long enough to get the delete prompt before it looped again. Did a hard reboot at that point and the loop was gone.

Leave the Xposed installed, but disable the Greenify module. That will likely solve it.
No custom ROMs are out yet. If you need it, the Dell 4.4.4 factory ROM is posted in Venue General (7840 ROM, that is)

@spotdog14 - The only way to access a recovery and install SuperSU is through a tethered CWM recovery session made for Intel x86 Android tablets - Check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/intel-android-devices-root-temp-cwm-t2975096
On another note: What do you folks think about creating a generic Venue 7840 "Tips and Tricks/What-We-Know-So-Far" thread and compile this info? I would be glad to lead this.
Thanks!

A couple of weeks ago, I put in a request for a dedicated Venue 7840 forum. Here is what I'm thinking:
Intro
Guides
[**]Tethered CWM Recovery + SuperSU
[**]Xposed module install
[**]Format microSD for support up to 512GB
Resources
[**]Dell 4.4.4 CWM Nandroid rooted image
[**]APKs of Dell-specific apps (Camera, Gallery, etc. - whatever will work as such)
Anything else?

Awesome, thanks! I had some problems finding the right ADB driver but it all worked out. I ended up using option 3 and got an error about too many links but it still booted fine into recovery and I was able to flash SU just fine. The first two apps to install here Adaway and xposed.
**Edit**
I have a question, this is obviously an older version of xposed and one of the modules I use is App Settings and it is saying it requires XposedBridge Version 52. Is it safe to update Xposed from inside the app or should I try downloading an older version of App Settings?
I would not recommend updating Xposed just yet. One of the modules that I use is YouTube adblock, and it complained about not having the latest framework. It still worked, though.
The reason I posted this Xposed (found on another Android x86 forum) was that when I tried the latest framework, I got an immediate bootloop.
Fortunately, though, if you have a problem, you can boot to Android Safe Mode and have enough time to remove Xposed. Boot the system while holding down both VolUp+VolDn, and it'll boot to Safe Mode.
RE: Adblock -> That's my first order of business. Install FDroid+Adblock. It is night-and-day performance boost on Android.

That is kind of what I figured. I just wish I could get App Settings to work.
Also it appears I cannot get Xposed GEL Settings to work correctly either. I'm going to try to uninstall it and reinstall it later today to see if that makes any difference.
I haven't tried Xposed GEL yet. Let me know how that goes. What I figure we could do in the compiled 7840 info thread is include what's been tried and a "Yes/No/Kinda" section of how apps/modules are performing.

Sounds good to me. After reinstalling GEL settings worked fine. I'm thinking about applying gravity box next. I miss my customizable quick toggles.
Update, Gravity Box KK works, but you cannot disable or move the quick access settings for:
My Dell
Sound
Dell Cast
But from my brief test everything else seems to be working fine.
@spotdog14 - Thank you for posting your findings. I will roll this into the general thread.
Som sad news, though. I traded in my Venue 7840 for a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. I really needed the pen capability. Nonetheless, I have the info I need to set up the 7840 general forum.
I am currently uploading Dell's factory 4.4.4 image as Nandroid. It should be pre-rooted, but if not, use the tethered CWM to install the latest SuperSU.

I used this tool to install xposed from day one and has worked great for me the past couple months. It's 2.6.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/tool-installer-xposed-installer-zenfones-t2983589
Worked like a charm.
Hello all, I'm on D855,and after few attempts I managed to get Xposed working. I had issues with SDK 21 thing.
Now its working but can't se 'table thing' on there. It just says 'version 74 is active' with no possibility to press Install/Update. There is screen shot. Is this behavior normal for xposed, or I did something wrong?
Thanks.
Sorry, posted it here instead of general. And now don't know how to delete it...
Sorry.

if you installed the xposed installer apk, then that's one step done. but, unless you haven't flashed the xposed SDK zip yet, you'll need to do that - it's the (or at least probably the easiest) way to install xposed. flash it with a custom recovery or whatever else you have, and after a reboot you should see that it tells you the SDK is installed, and from there you can browse and pick modules from the repo.
I'm not sure if that answers your question (was in a bit of a hurry so skimmed read it incorrectly so no, it doesn't answer the question ), but in general (at least for me), those buttons are blanked out, and I do everything by flashing.

Xosed works. Mods are working, I just needed to know is the installation ok, cause, it wouldn't be the first time for something working, but making phone slower due to bad installation.

just to confirm, here's a screenshot of my device. maybe it's the device itself or something's been configured so that the xposed installer cannot modify the SDK installation. but, like I said, it's normal for me and even if it wasn't the most normal thing you can always perform the operations through recovery anyway

Well I would like something like extended display (it's called like that in CM I think) or PIE from Paranoid android.
So to have them, but hidden.
Stock option doesn't work as it keeps them on launcher and keyboard.

A few days ago, there was an update from zhuhang for the already released Viper4Android 2.5.0.5. It addresses the issues that a lot of people are having with getting V4A working under Nougat. I tested it with my ROM, and the driver installed without error. So then I decided to make a flashable zip that would preinstall the driver and save you a few minutes plus a reboot. Other than possibly needing to grant Storage permissions in Settings, this is a quick flash and go.
The zip that should work on any LG-based ROM, and possibly on AOSP-based as well. Just download, flash in TWRP, and reboot. You may need to grant Storage permissions in Settings.

Thanks for this.. I'm sure many will get use out of it..!
Not sure if I did something wrong or not - but I can't get it to work.
I'm on DevDigital's ls997 ver 6.5 magisk phh.
Flashed in twrp. Granted root permision.
go to SuperSU / un-check Mount_name spaces separately / under the settings. turn on adb debugging.

You shouldn't have been promoted to grant root access. V4A only needs root to install the driver, which is preinstalled.
If you're being prompted to install a driver, the ROM likely uses a different conf file to control audio.
Sent from my iPhone 7 Plus using Tapatalk
He built and ported to magisk recently. Has a module you need to install then install Swansong
I haven't played with it yet. I like the new app but dont see a diffence in drivers from 2.5.0.4 to 2.5.0.5
Magisk has a compatible module in his downloads via the app that works with my rom (2.5.0.4)
I install that via magisk manager then i pulled the latest viper4arise.apk and installed instead of the older ui viperfx apk that is linked on the downloads page inside magisk manager.
Driver installs correctly for many others as well. You may need to dirtyflash my rom and start over. Magisk manager also received a update yesterday via playstore. The process on phh or magisksu as its now called is different now as its "systemless" vs modifying the actual system files.
If you dont want to go 5through the hassel of above. Just go to developer settings inside of the viper apps settings and turn off selinux and recheck driver status. Im 99% sure it works this way but ive said it before, i wont push the rom this route as i dont perfer it to be off by defualt.
Hope this helps
Got it all worked out thanks to the rom creator above. Team DevDigitel.
Thank You
Thank you for your work on this flashable zip it's much appreciated, I just have a couple of questions though for anyone who might know..
I'm still running the original stock rom (rooted with TWRP) on my LG V20 and a while back I followed the directions from another thread to install V4A, and I was able to get it to work (even through bluetooth) but it's kind of wonky and just hit or miss so I'd really like to try this one out instead.
I'm assuming I should uninstall the version of V4A I have right now but is there anything else that I need to do (besides a nand backup) before flashing this one? Also one of the steps to install the V4A I have right now was deleting a system file (I'll have to go look to be sure but I believe it was something like mixer_paths.xml), so I just thought I'd check to see if that will somehow effect this version or if I possibly need to put the original file back where it was before flashing this one?
I apologize if these are stupid questions but I just thought play it safe and check first before giving this a shot, because even though the version I have is kind of wonky it still works through bluetooth which from what I've read is something that a lot of people haven't been able to get working, and since I use it so much I'm just afraid to even risk losing it. Anyway I'll definitely create a backup before doing anything but any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You don't need to delete any files for this zip. You're supposed to delete /system/etc/audioeffects.conf, but I've done that with the script.
As I use this more, Bluetooth still occasionally doesn't process after pausing for an extended period, like getting out of the car for more than 5 minutes, but all you need to do for it to kick back on is exit V4A from the menu, then open it up again. It'll immediately start processing again.
If you have an unmodified system backup to restore, that will help ensure it works OK, but it may not be needed.

Thank you for the quick response and for the info and I have no clue why I had mixer_paths on the brain but yeah audioeffects.conf is the file I had to delete while installing the version I have, and as far as what you said about the bluetooth acting up it sounds pretty similar to the wonkyness that I was describing with the version I currently have.
One weird thing that I've noticed with mine (and I don't have the slightest idea how or why it's doing it) is when I'm listening to music through my bluetooth headset, none of the settings under the "Bluetooth" section in V4A have any effect on the sound whatsoever.. but what's weird is that all of the settings under the "Headphones" section do (so it's basically like the section names were swapped somehow)?!
I know for sure that I don't have anything plugged into the jack and the headset I'm using is definitely bluetooth (because it's pretty easy to tell lol), so I have no clue why the settings under headphones would work just fine while the ones under bluetooth don't do it anything at all?
Anyway thank you again for the info I'll give it a shot as soon as I have time and let ya know how it went, and unfortunately the only thing I didn't backup was my unmodified system (it didn't even cross my mind until after I was done rooting) but hopefully it'll still be ok. Thanks again!

You can definitely control BT devices from the BT tab on this one. And I've found with more testing that before I get in my car, switch to V4A and exit it, then open it again as soon as Play Music connects. Works every time.
I would just like to say thank you!!
I installed this .zip on my T-mo variant over the previous V4A install via dirty flash. It resolved my Bluetooth processing issues on the stock V20 ROM. I've been working on this the past few days. VERY happy it now works in my car like my last phone did!
Now, once I get the nerve to flash over the new modem and bootloader via TWRP to get up to 20j, I'm highly inclined to check out the new ROM by NATF.
Cheers!

The new modem and other firmware is not a strict requirement for ROMs built on 10j. You just need to make sure TWRP is on the latest release.
