Hello All,
I am facing a strange problem.. Till yesterday noon all was fine but since evening whenever I connect my phone to my laptop, I get a prompt that USB device is not recognized.
I re-installed USB drivers and Kies and also checked on different ports on the laptop but same issue..
Further on the same port, my hard-drive is successfully detected,
USB icon does not appear when connected to laptop
Can you please help?
Other information:
1. Phone model: GT-i9300 International
2. ROM: AICP 01-Sep nightly
EDIT:
1. I am able to charge the phone using the same USB cable and laptop USB slot
2. On other laptops as well, I am getting the same issue

Yes.. however tested with a different cable and found that the cable is faulty...
It's quite strange.. one moment the cable was working and was gone in another !

Hi,
Do I have to use original USB cable to transfer data to/from my Hero? I tried my USB mini cable which I use with my digital camera and other devices, and Hero started to charge it's battery, but didn't display any notification about possible file transfers. Also dmesg on my Ubuntu doesn't show any connected USB device. However, it works with original HTC cable, but it's quiet short.
You need the original cable. Sorry :-(
No you don't. A normal USB to Mini USB cable works fine.

So, why mine doesn't work? As I said, the cable works fine with my camera and MP3 player.
all generic usb cables i have used so far (at least 6, maybe 10) have worked fine. charging, file transfer, adb worked.

Whilst you don't need to use the supplied USB cable, this part of your statement is *incorrect*. There have been many, many, examples here on these forums where people have had to switch to using a different cable in order to get a PC to recognize the Hero correctly.
My advice to anyone having such an issue is to try a variety of different cables, even if the cables you are using work with other devices.

Dave
My samsung galaxy does not recognize that it's connected through a USB cable connected to my computer, and thinks it connected directly to the wall plug.
Is there any way to force-connect to the computer or something.
I don't know if it's the cable or the phone. I hope it's the cable, because it's a new cable, and this had never happened before. But then again, this should not happen. Right?
untick usb debugging in settings/applications/development
still nothing.
Have you installed kies or samsung usb drivers for s2 on your pc ???

Do you see some errors in Device manager?
If yes, try to update every driver marked as error.
Try to update windows. It's very important to install Samsung driver from windows updates. This is how do i resolved my problem.
Good luck!
I was just having the same problem myself, and found a possible solution. Make sure you're using the cable that comes with the phone. Other cables (such as for HTC phones) will charge the phone, but won't allow data transfer.

I'm pretty sure it's not the computer since I can detect other peoples S3 , and already tried it on several PC's ( kies and different drivers too)
is there a possibility of a busted USB port ? even though it still charges , but nothing appears in the device manager
Connect it to the PC in Download Mode to install some drivers automatically. So I understood it will work. For me it didn't work in like first week I bought it. Then, I was charging it on my PC for like half an hour and then it connected by itself. First days I connected it rzisted more nd more connected. Let's say like a car when you start it and push on the trothle. It goes more and more until you can go how long you want. Try via Download first then come back and report

Get a toothpick and clean your USB port on the phone. Had a problem that was similar to yours caused by dust .
That might be the problem.

.
Yes, because data uses other pins than charging does.
I have an other question, does your phone give -any- feadback at all when plugged in to a computer? Did you try a different usb cable?

connect the phone in download mode and observe if the odin detects it..
also try flashing any file through it(say recovery) and see if the transfer works.
if it does ..no issues with the usb , go for the pc then.

Hey guys,
My SGS3 suddenly stopped connecting to the PC. When plug the USB cable the phone just charges. No notification shows up on the phone or the PC. I tried using different usb cables and laptops but no luck.
I was running on CM11 when the problem started. Then i changed to a stock based rom. But nothing seems to be working. Any solution????
Search and read, hundreds of identical threads. You have a problem in windows, not the i9300.
find your developer options

Hi. I want to fix my USB connection.
S2 I9100 charge via USB to PC work (however, Kies or Odin is unable to find and connect properly).
Action steps done:
1. Updated Windows 7 with Samsung drivers - still does not see it
2. *#7284# -- checked settings to see if USB is in PDA mode.. - YES
3. Unplug and replug USB.. still nothing pops up via PC and device.
4. USB utilities settings does not do anything when selected
Q:
1. Where can I go to fix it?
2. Is it a missing driver?
3. What is the hardware or software called (terminology so I can search)?
4. Is there other samsung codes I am able to use to fix it?
Thanks in advance.. It's driving me crazy ...
Sounds stupid but did you try a different cable? I've seen many (mostly cheaper) cables which sometimes work for charging but don't work for data connections and sometimes it's the other way around. Also it sometimes helps to try a different USB port.

I have the same problem of no communication with Kies on one of my devices.
I have the benefit of two I9100's, one will connect the other will not, so in my case the cable and drivers are confirmed as good. Is it a hardware issue?

My device is able to charge via USB to PC, would it be hardware issue to be replace?
Is there another reference to show how to change it?
