Hello guys, I was trying to solve this for a couple of hours but all I could find were variations of this but the problem is not with Play Store, that works fine. The FC "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" occurs every time I try to sync contacts, either to Gmail account (which hence doesn't have any contacts in it) or to Samsung cloud. So it appears that the process responsible for collecting all the contacts in the phone and sending them to backup is making trouble. Reseting app preferences in Settings -> Apps -> All didn't help. Another suggestion, when someone was solving this FC for Internet Browser, was to delete data and cache of Internet Browser. So do you have any idea which one of the many tiny system apps showing up in All Apps might be the one that is responsible for sending contacts to backup so that I could delete it's cache and data and see if it helps? Or do you have any other idea how to solve this unfortunate problem? The phone has unrooted stock ROM with everything updated to the latest versions.

So, I upgraded to HKTW 2.3.4 and went through TiBu to debloat a bit.
To my frustration, every time I open a contact, I get a FC for contact manager:
"android process com.motorola.contacts has stopped working"
Thinking it was the beta build, I reflashed several times. Turns out its certain apps in TiBu that cause it. Now of course, I didn't freeze "contacts" or anything obvious.. but I froze the following that caused the error (I did one by one to see what it was):
Ypmobile
Yahoo mail authenticator
I have no yahoo mail nor do I use the yellow pages app. If I freeze either one (or sometimes both) of these, I get a FC every time with my contact manager. Anyone know why?
Thanks
Hi
I have a Motorola XT319 Android 2.3
I tried to save some space linking (LINK2SD) the contacts app and contact storage app.
I first had to Move them to user app (as they were system apps) and then proceeded to link. All went well but when I tried to open the PHONE app y will NOT load. Nor the CONTACTS app. I tried to UNlink it and switch it back to system app but it wouldn't.
I can't make any phone calls. PLEASE HELPPPP!!!!
Problem Update
I got no answers so far so I deleted all cache and data files and restablished factoru settings. Since reboot, I keep getting to error messages, One recarding android.process.acome and the other Google Frameworks. They keep poping up over and over. The dialer will know load, but the contacts WILL NOT.
Contact Sync is IMPOSIBLE and even though I unselect the sync option, the errors keep poping up.
I believe the problem has someting to do with the contact app.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
I am running on the latest stock Verizon firmware on my Note 2. Starting last week I've been having this very annoying issue where at least once a day, all my contacts will disappear on my phone. I am using my Google contacts as my only source of contacts, it is a fairly simple contact list with no extra labels or anything complicated involved. When the contacts disappear, I go under settings --> (accounts) Google --> my gmail account, and see an error under Contacts stating "Sync error: Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Hitting "Sync Now" again and again will not clear this error. When I restart my phone, the sync will work and my contacts will return, but after a day this error will occur again and my contact list disappears.
I have tried removing my google account from the phone, restarting, and readding the account without success. I have tried going under settings --> application manager and deleting the cache for the phone, contact list, and messanger without any effect. I have also tried completely resetting the phone and starting from scratch without any success as well.
It is sad because I have never had this issue before on my previous android phone (Droid X) and it is making me want to throw this phone against the wall!
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Try downloading app "Contacts Sync Fix" from the Play store. Worked for me!

Problem solved: I have an application called Call Control Pro that blocks telemarketer phone numbers. Apparently there was a bug that caused all contacts to disappear requiring a reboot for them to come back, process then repeats daily. They fixed the issue in the latest update. Thank goodness, because I was being driven crazy by this issue.
Hello, my Atrix 4G (MB860, Android 2.3.6, 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US) got new problem, currently the biggest (it's really worth than one day on battery working or error updating on 4.5.145 firmware). Phone is unlocked, rooted.
The full error that reads is:
"The application Contacts Storage (process com.motorola.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly Please try again."
Then I get a Force Close.
This error appears after viewing a contact or trying to add a new one. It makes really hard to call on contacts second or third number...
I did some internet searching, and what comes up most often is people having frozen some application (usually Yahoo Mail). I haven't frozen anything before it stopped working.
It all happened today after couple of app updates (Endomondo Sports Tracker, Evernote, Hex Editor, Lan plugin for Total Commander, Skype, Smart Compass, Speedtest, Winamp, Yandex Navigator, Lookout Security), Lookout Security is already uninstalled.
More internet searching led me to an answer that seems to help most people: replacing the files in /system/app:
blur_yahoo.apk
blur_yahoo.odex
YahooContacts.apk
YahooContacts.odex
Mine weren't missing, but I went ahead and got the Linux 2.3.6 versions of those files, copied them over, changed the permissions to 644 and the owner/group to root, power booted (battery out), and no good.
Another suggestion was renaming the two BlurContactsSync files to *.bak. Did that, then reboot... no change.
Also tried to use "ExDialer & Contacts" it's getting the same error when adding contact but gives ability to view contact.
The last thing I did was a complete restore of all apps and data with Titanium from a backup back when I know contacts was working. Reboot. No fix.
I'm now at a complete loss. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
Go into cwm and fix permissions, then clear cache and reboot. Once rom booted, go to settings and clear contacts app's data. That worked for me, althrough i lost all contacts, i synced them again

Problem in Endomondo
I too got the same error message as you, and also like you I have Endomondo. But I have Android version 2.3.5 and it is NOT rooted, just out of the box operating system settings.
I tried clearing the data first for Endomondo under "Manage Apps" but that didn't help. Then I uninstalled it and cycled power on the phone and when it came back up I could look at the contacts. Yey!
Let me know if this helps.
I have a SM-G9250, never rooted is factory stock with Android 5.1.1, which had been working with no trouble at all, however, this morning the contacts app started doing something funny,
I tried openning a contact and the app read: "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" and it shuts.
It only happens with a few contacts, not all will close the app, don't know how to fix, I have restarted several times, and did a back up and restore of the contacts only,
Has anybody come across this? I searched the forum but didn't find a thread about it,
Help is appreciated in advance.
Sign out / Delete of all your accounts that sync contacts . Restart your device. Then slowly add each one and let it resyc.
