I'm pretty sure it's not. Our G3 devs are working on a bootloader unlock and they've even said that we already have a Loki Like exploit they could release if a true unlock can't be done. Plus Hashcode has stopped support of SafeStrap as of late due to him getting a new job.

Yes it's possible. But not with out an unlocked bootloader.
No w/ out a locked bootloader you can't even run aosp. (Depressing eh?)

It's not that difficult to get. It's just pricey, and w/ the S5 coming out around the corner pointless.

The S5 is even more pointless if you ask me. It's going to come even more locked down than these s4's
Sure people will work hard at finding exploits but its not going to be any easier. Its getting to the point where more an more people will jump ship over to Sprint where you can still unlock the bootloaders.
So what if Knox gets mad and keeps telling you in tiny yellow and red letters during each reboot.

That's a joke right sprint?
People will jump to Tmobile. Unlockable and actually decent and fast service.
Granted the S5 (on vzw and att) will come more locked than the S4 but people (dan rosenberg or someone else) will initially come onboard and find a 2nd init or kexec method. Also vz has the most coverage around the US.

For those that dont know jcase and beaups have rooted the new Verizon HTC M8 and found that the vuln and exploit also works on Verizon HTC One 4.4.2. This means it likely will work on the Verizon HTC Max for 4.4.2. *I believe* beaups is working on rolling the root exploit into rumrunner to soff the M8 (and by luck the One on 4.4.2). So at a minimun us Verizon Max owners should be comfortable updating to 4.4.2 and more importantly new buyers of the Verizon Max (and hopefully other versions) will have an available soff and root.
See Verizon HTC One forum for more Weaksauce HTC info.

Why don't you do it? Or are you the type of person who prefers to rudely badger other people into doing things for you?
(my "thanks" on your post was accidental and the Tapatalk app won't let me undo it).
Not to mention Hashcode has a TON of devices he supports for SafeStrap.
It's a lot of work to do any of these things that the devs are working on. In time we'll have something I'm sure!

Phone just came out, doesn't that mean there should be recovery, Roms, kernels, and the whole shebang? Slackers!
(Sarcasm implied, please don't take seriously)
I'm on Verizon's edge plan. Have been for little over a month. I want the nexus 6 when they have it in the store. I'm rooted. Would it be bad if I bump'd it and installed a Rom on my g3? Or should I just wait? How do I unroot when the time comes?

When I joined the edge program, I traded in my unlocked, rooted Galaxy S3. When I traded in my Note 3 for the LG G3, it was also rooted. All they care is that the device boots up and isn't damaged.
I'm debating jumping to the Nexus 6 when it comes out, it all depends on dev support now that the G3 has been opened up.

Okay good. I'm just more familiar with nexuses. I had a galaxy nexus, a 4 and 5. So. Yeah. And with the g3 you can't do much. If I understand correctly, you can't run a Rom with a different base as the stock Rom. So most aosp and lollipop Roms are out. And on my n5 I ran the loli dev preview. Its nice and clean. I loved it.

"Bone up"? So are you saying I'm dead wrong? I thought that was the case. It had to have the same base or something. I don't know. I figured if it was completely open I'd see things like AOKP, CM, and PA... but like I said. I'm familiar with the nexus line. The G3 made me realize how much I don't know about Android and how much a breeze nexus is. It's a learning experience.

Lol. You've never heard the expression "bone up"? It means to get up to speed, with current progress. To answer your question, yes, you are wrong. Now that the G3 is unlocked, it is not unlike a Nexus device.

I've heard it in terms of not being a man about something. Kinda like nut up. and I was wondering why you said that. I kinda thought you were just trolling. Lol. Never in that context, no. Lol. I'll go read up on this bumpd business. Thanks for correcting me. I'll do like the other guy and wait it out and see where we are by December or so.

I don't know about that. Since Verizon has confirmed, that they will carry the N6, I would expect them to release it around the same time as everyone else.

I just recently switched my phone to straight talk and it will only work on KitKat ROMs. When I was on Verizon I had AICP as a dd. But no 5.0 ROM has successfully been able to pull up apns. Or allow me to create apns and save them. They don't save.
I'm running the latest 4.4.4 slimkat. And PA 4.4.4 works. Haven't tried LS.
.
I may have misunderstood the question. Of course you can use any VS985 rom/modem whether you are on Verizon or not, with the possible exception of cm12 Lollipop roms due to APN issues.
What I was worried the poster might have been asking was whether he could move to a different variant's rom or modem, a non-vs985 rom, like a T-Mobile rom or radio, if he wanted to drop Verizon.
That would not work.
