I think they will. I just update my XT-1021 to 4.4.4

As far as I know moto stated that a big update will b given to moto e which mean a jump from kk to L. I personally don't feel updating to 4.4.4 was its main aim. I'm more sure of getting andriod L soon after its release..

Hope they give us the update. though the update to 4.4.4 was hardly anything but still it was an update. Anyways even if the update doesnt arrive, I m sure the people in our forum may try to build one. If not anyone else i may give it a shot if i have time.

I don't think so.
As you know, Android L will use ART, and it'll use more internal memory compared to Dalvik. In Moto E with its 2.2 GB... it will be harder to manage an balance between few free space and good performance.

Android one is going to release this month. In IND Micromax, spice and carbon are ready to release One. As per as update is concerned ,these phones are one step ahead . Hope, Motorola has already started thinking about the future of E. To stay in the low priced market , they will hopefully release 2nd gen E also with better internal support.

Most probably I think they won't.
And even if they do, they will have to compress the apps to a great extent, trying to optimize the space of the OS, because of ART.
least we can do is wait if Moto updates any news on its devices.

that would be hella laggy, maybe!
cuz only 882mb is available for system
the internal storage = 2.21gb and if i enable art
only 15-20% of the memory remains for other apps!! without installing anything else than the stock apps!
so without the art only system in L
they will have to remove some or the other apps or they can optimize the memory in such a way that low internal memory devices can have a taste of lolipop too!
damn, it just hit me.
they are doing it crossplatform?
am i right? so android L we can hope for it to be updated or AT THE LEAST ported to our device!!
they may let go of the bloatware and give us a app2sd feature to compensate for our own apps, that would be ok as well?
any way we can let moto know about our wishes??

Flipkart should stop selling moto E in India soon. Lots of offers are there with moto e in Flipkart which indicates that its losing its popularity ,may be indication of launching 2nd gen .But practically it is difficult for moto to provides L update to 1gen E.

Android 4.2 waiting thread... screw jellybean

Ok rumor is key lime pie aka android 4.2 will be announced next month or earlier... so why wait for jellybean when 4.2 is about to be released. Also why only 6
months or less between 4.1 and 4.2 as it takes atleast a year or so for makers to skin the android and butcher it. I cant wait for google to remove blur from my xt912 nexus razr...

Have you ever tried JB? It's awesome! We have some great custom roms here. You want to wait for Motorola releasing an update to JB? Have fun...
And btw: As soos as 4.2 comes out Google will release 4.3 and so on...Then you could open a "screw 4.2 thread"! If you want have Blur removed from your device go ahead and flash one of the great custom roms!

Thats not what i am saying.. what i am saying when they announce key lime pie android 4.2 then jellybean is yesterdays news no matter how great it is. I always want the latest and now its gonna be 4.2 so google and moto should just skip 4.1 and just give us 4.2 or 5.0

Waiting for JB on our Razr's is wishful thinking and we could be waiting for ever. Waiting for 4.2 is even more ridiculous. Not to diss you OP, I just feel I know where we stand. It's always a possibility that we'll get JB but I doubt it. Mainly for the fact that Motorola and Verizon already have new and better phones coming and they will be more focused on selling those. Once the Razr HD and Maxx HD come out, that's pretty much the end for the Razr/Razr Maxx. Why would Verizon invest in our old Razr's when they have 3 new ones (Razr M included) to make money off of? Remember that Android updates now have to go through Verizon's approval.

Google's plan is to release an major update of android every 6 month.
Since motorola take almost 1 year to update, you're done.
If you want to be sure to have all new version of android, you should buy a nexus or at least a popular unlocked bootloader phone, like htc or samsung.
Sad stories, last time i buy a phone without checking if bootloader is locked or not

I thinking all moto devices will be nexus devices but i think usa verizon will demand like they did on the s3 that all phones be locked with the bootloader as vzw said that the Unlocked requirement only applies to apps.

4.2 is actually still likely going to be Jelly Bean, according to Android Police and Google's server logs (look under the section "Laying the Foundation"), not Key Lime Pie. This may change by release, but for now, it is still using J in the build number, signifying that it is still currently Jelly Bean. If that's the case, it may not be something worth getting hyped about, and we should still be glad if we get 4.1.
But my phone works good now

like how they did 2.0 and 2,1 how silly
Fact: Motorola will give you ONE upgrade which will be Jellybean. On all their devices they usually only go up one more Android version then they ditch the device in order to support all of their new devices which will also end up with the same fate. Enjoy Jellybean. You won't get 4.2 at the least not from Motorola.
I'm currently running JB, in the KOA Resurrection flavor, on my razr and it has made me very excited for the official JB release, when it (hopefully) come to our phones. JB, at least as the rom I'm running, is fantastic.
Like others have said, the current trend for devices seems to be one to two android updates before being left on the back burner, if not being taken off the burner entirely, to allow focus on supporting newer money making phones and devices.

we should always get the latest android as soon as google releases it. now that google owns moto mobility then i suspect that all future devices will be apart of the nexus certified program meaning that google atleast on gsm will push all updates to the phone the same day as announced. However those of us like me on verizon will never be apart of the nexus certified program as vzw along with other cdma carriers play their natzi best to delay all updates for the sake of testing.... well i thought google already tested the stuff anyway... we need to take back control of our phones from verizon (axis power alley) and give that power back to us (the allies power)...

Doubts regarding Android L on moto e

For all people out there worried about Android L
update,
Our device specs definitely supports L. The only
problem is the less internal storage we have
As Android L will run only on ART more storage is
required and upgrade will consume more memory.
We will have less internal storage.
One good hope is with Android L a better ART which
consumes less memory (as art was beta in KitKat, it was not completely flawless.
Android L is going to be a major update by Google in recent years,
so Motorola is now testing few builds related to Android L (not the original L as its not released) to see if it can sustain the major update.
But one this is for sure we will have a lot less internal storage I guess.
But in the END in am Confident #Motorola will release
Android L for us. I hope you understood my point.
We will surely get Android L
No idea how Motorola will manage space issue in Moto E. Currently with default apps itself its taking around 1.2-1.3 GB of internal memory . If we change to ART run time available space will become around 200 MB. Not sure how they will manage that.. Hope beta version ART only have this issue
yes it may be a issue with the beta build/...and motorola may change something in the android l for moto e..so that sd card memory can be used and reduce usage of internal..may be...lets see what happens
My hope as always is not with OEMs, but with independent developers who will release a L based custom ROM.
ART and the lack of space in our devices is indeed a problem, let's just see how optimized it becomes on the final build.

Moreover Android L will support permission to SD card

Changes in Android L —
SD card permission granted (for apps)
better art (faster and optimised for less space)
So we have more than 90% chance to get L

A similar device to moto in terms of specs

Can anyone tell me a similar device to moto e which has almost same specifications (the price be anything) as compared to moto e which has good android development. It may be from Samsung Sony or any company but it should have good android development.
The most important features to get matched are
Screen resolution
Processor
Screen size (it may be 4"-4.5")
Ram
Android 4.4.4
I can easily port roms from that device thats why asking

Well, only these phones have matching processor : Blu Studio 5.0, Blu Studio 5.3S, Nokia Lumia 530.
However, a lot of phones have 1GB ram as the Moto E.
And, similarly, a lot of phones out there with Screen size from 4"-4.5"
But, only few on Android 4.4.4, I believe. Actually, no one with matching specs above.
And, problem is, the phones having matching processor have no android or no development.
So, I guess, that's unfortunate for us, but that's how it is for now.
But, CM11 sources for our device are there, now.
Can, you refer to them, and maybe see some other phone which has 1GB RAM, android 4.4 and a similar screen size, and make code changes to port it for Moto E ?

where is nexus 9 android 5.1

Why has Google ignored nexus 9, I bought this tablet so that it would be first to get updates but it's the opposite? Why Google why?

64-bit must be giving the developers trouble compared to the other Nexus devices, or maybe there's something else about the K1.

Yes, I want to know myself. Google suposed to be giving nexus devices upgrades for 2 years and the nexus 9 is still a new device and no update to version 5.1 yet. Stock images is still 5.0.1 version. I tryied updating to the pure AOSP 5.1 from the dev section from this forum but it had errors so bad it was unusable.
We already know that 5.1 still has memory leaks. At this point, I would prefer to wait another couple weeks and have them release 5.1.1
Sent from my Nexus 9
well.. it has been almost 1 month since 5.1 images released... And still nothing.. the funny thing is that they realized that there is a memory leak in 5.1 and yet they released 3 versions of 5.1 for nexus 6, and 2 versions for nexus 5. All versions with the memory leak. The most funny thing will be nexus 9 to receive 5.1 with 1 month delay and not 5.1.1 with the memory leak fix...

The Nexus 9 doesn't seem to be a priority for Google. Even the Nexus 7 2013/2012 have received 5.1 despite being much older than the N9, they should at least give a release window for the 9 even if they are unable to provide immediate updates. Although, I think the user base for the Nexus 9 might be small, so perhaps Google doesn't think it's necessary to cater to N9 users at this time.

I believe this too, due to the extremely low "nexus market share" this device has. Anyway, eventually it will be released.. Let's hope that it will be a final version. There will always be bugs, this is how software development works.
The SoC is a catastrophic choice. No other devices use it, I think, and development will be less than nothing from Nvidia.

Reports of "memory leak" from morons who don't even know what a memory leak *is* are meaningless. Your assumption that "they realized that there is a memory leak in 5.1" is without merit.

Right, u know better... There is memory leak , its there. Whether u like it or not. The only thing that u have been doing is being acting like a smartas* , next time try to explain if u will.

Whatever pal. Believe whatever you like.
But the fact that neither you nor anyone else has actually *demonstrated* a memory leak really says a lot about how well (or rather poorly) you understand.
In fact, first thing I would do is challenge you to explain (without looking it up) what a memory leak *ACTUALLY IS*, as well as *prove* that there is one in play.

Android Wear 2.0

UPDATE ON 20/4
Watches will receive Android Wear 2.0 end of April/late May
Moto 360 Gen 2
Moto 360 Sport
Source: https://support.google.com/androidwear/forum/AAAAI6hwIZU5v_b7oHHsy0/?hl=en
UPDATE ON 15/4:
Android Wear's Twitter : Android Wear 2.0 OTA will be arriving to your Moto 360 Gen 2 soon.
There's a confirm that our watch can upgrade to Android Wear 2.0
And there's a release date of AW 2.0 (9 FEB 2017)
Is that means the 2.0 updates will release on 9 FEB?
I don't think so.... I think the OEM's (Like Motorola) need some time to personalize the new Android Wear...
I just downloaded what it says is 2.0 to my phone, and it looks pretty much the same to me. I don't get it!? Was expecting something new. It definitely says Version 2.0, updated 1/25/17. Am I missing something?

Android Wear on your phone may be 2.0, it is on mine, but that's not the software on your watch. It may contain the code needed to run the newer Wear when your watch gets it but that's what is important and isn't released yet. Won't be for a while most likely. I'm sure the new watches being announced next week will get it first and then it's up to Motorola to release it to our model which could be days, weeks, or months after.
If you go on your watch into Settings --> About --> Versions what do you get?
Mine is attached

I thought part of the licencing for Wear prevented the OEM's from customisation. Other than bootsplash and pre-installed apps.
We should get it pretty quickly due to this.

Android Wear 2.0 is the firmware not the app
It's easy to confuse between the Android Wear app and the device firmware

Thanks! Version 1.5.0 on watch. So is this considered the firmware? Because 2.0 in the AW app is pretty much same as usual. Like everyone, I've been anxiously waiting for the big update. False alarm I guess.

I'm afraid that's what I've done. Thanks for the clarification.

Motorola should already be working on Android Wear 2.0 for the Moto 360 2nd Gen since the final preview was released last month.
9 Feb is coming, it's time to count down
still we have different time zone haha
why can't we make a rom from the moto 360 v2 and make it able to flash to the moto 1st gen?

Because that isn't how it works.
The two watches have entirely different chipsets. The OG 360 has an outdated TI OMAP processor, while the 2015 360 has an SD4xx variant. Not just that, but, the 2015 360 has no POGO pins to connect to, meaning dumping the firmware from the watch, and like I said, even if you did it via BT/extracting OTA files, you'd have no way to flash it to the OG 360 without a custom cable, and even then, it wouldn't work because of the architecture change.

It's possible to make a custom rom
The problem is moto 360 doesn't have a usb port

As far as I know, it's completely impossible. Moto 360 1st gen runs on different processor and architecture while Moto 2nd gen has a Qualcomm.
Anyone had any luck yet?
do we know if there are a lot of new features expected with this update?
edit:
nice roundup of the updates. now i'm really looking forward to it.

I'm waiting on it also, I was actually a bit mad that it wasn't an 'all in one' release where all the watches received the update simultaneously
I asked Motorola Germany on Twitter. And they said they don't have a release date but they are working on the OTA.

Cool, hopefully Motorola America is working on it too
I think they will launch it Worlwide at the same time. I think there are no regional differences?!
From Wearable.com:
We have it on good authority that the rollout will actually begin on 15 February and, while Google has tested Wear 2.0 on all the devices listed below internally, it's up to the manufacturers themselves to sign-off on the revamped OS and get it out the door.

So it seems unlikely that we'll see anything before next week at the soonest. My guess would be the individualization for each watch/company would be a lot smaller than android phones so I'd hope that it would take a lot short time to get it approved, but we'll see.
