I generally don't like using cases on my phones but since I paid so much for my Xperia S I have been using one. I was curious how people who don't use cases on it have had their phone look like. How has the Xperia S survived the day to day normal wear and usage?
i dont have a case, cause i dont want to cover my beautiful XS..hehe..but i have a pouch for my XS.

I didn't use a case at first but a porch, and I hit a table with the lower left edge of my s (really soft, I didn't even drop it, I just put it down quickly) and it cracked and the paint peeled of. I drew over it with nail polish but I have been using a hard case ever since PLUS a porch.
And I still get a lot of scratches on the housing where the cut outs of my case are (mostly around the USB and headphone plugs, even though I treat my phone really carefully)
I wouldn't recommend using the phone without a case, it scratches way too easy.

Man this phone body is like a tin can
Me myself didn't like a case as well
I usually put my phone in the side pocket alongside with headset and it scratched. Hopefully i have it black so the scratch is not really visible.
And do not ever put your phone in the same pocket with your car keys. In my own experience it can dent your phone pretty bad

Nail polish all the way... In a year my complete phone will be painted in nail polish

I got a white Sony Xperia S a couple of days after the release. Never used any cases, I really hate 'em unless they add functionality.
I dropped my Xperia S only once on tiles, but it wasn't a very high drop. You can only see the scuffs if you look for them. They're really tiny.
Also, the only other scratch I have on my Xperia S is just my fault. I tried putting it in a tin case-like thing I had on a tripod which I had made for a smaller phone, but what I didn't realise was that the edges were very sharp.
My conclusion: Unless you like dropping your phone on the floor or scratch it on purpose with very sharp items, the Xperia S probably won't have any scratches at all. Even in white. The screen too is fine and the Sony (Ericsson) logo on the back isn't scratched either.
I've had mine for 5 months. It once dropped from a very low height facing down, so the screen kinda had a "scatter" from the side (volume up height) and the line goes until the very top of the USB port. It is only seeable at certain angles. There are also tiny scratches, but they are on the screen protector, so.... It once dropped from a slightly higher height than the first, but nothing happened.

I am not surprised that the white one has scratch problems. My buddy had a white HTC Hero with teflon coating and it looked pretty bad after a year or so.
My Xperia s has a thin case so the outside is mint. The screen has really minute scratches that all screens get that you can only see in certain light but no biggy. I never rock a screen protector. I would like to go case free but seeing peoples comments it makes me a bit nervous.

Mine is a white one. I don't have a single scratch (none that I can see, at least). And my screen "scratches" are like yours, but they are on the shatter proof that come already applied to the device.

Yeah my screen scatches are literally almost impossible to see. I removed my shatter proof sheet the day I got the phone though.

The Xperia S already has a screen protector on it from the factory. Going case free isn't a problem for me at all
I wouldn't remove this protector though. I read somewhere that it could make capacitive button sensitivity less.
I use some cheap pocket-like condom to keep my sola semi-safe.
Back in 2010 when I just bought a brand new HTC Desire I immediately wanted to protect it. I mean PROTECT IT.
I bought the Krusell Orbiflex thingie (was like uberexpensive) and was pretty happy with it until... after few months I realized that the screen was actually scratched by the case itself!
Then I sent over the HTC to the service point (because of broken camera or something). I repeated the procedure 5 times, so they swapped the unit into a new one.
I was happy and stuff and put the new, shiny device into the same case .
After few weeks my brand new HTC was scratched again in the very same spot beacuse of the case. AGAIN.
Maybe a little bit OT but kind of funny story it was .

No removing it makes it more sensitive. Trust me I have done it on 3 different Xperia S phones.
I use a nillkin case, but the top and bottom. Of the phone have so many scratches now. Hence, changed to a tpu Gel case instead.

wel, I don't really like the screen protector at all and even less a case.
I'm happy with a naked Xperia U, and whenever it get any hard scratches the phone will bet getting old already.
People don't stay with their phones for much longer anyway, so i don't think it's a good thing use cases...
My only scratch is off all places on the glass in the centre of he screen on my s3 after taking it into a repair shop without my case on. Was just glad to have my phone back so let the guy off with the scratch... normally use a otterbox defender case.

Hi People,
just wondering if the Sony logo will come off with taking that thing off. Anyone experienced how scratch resistent the "real" glass of our Tablet is?
On my Xperia Arc S I took it off in the first month of use...got it almost 2 Years now and only 2 noticeable scratches.

After much hesitation, I finally got around to remove the pre installed film last night.
It is not easy to remove , but it is worth it. You get better touch sensitivity and clearer picture; and it feel so much better to touch actual glass than plastic!
Use a blade or a sharp object near the corners to lift the film up carefully without scratching anything else.Fingernails didn't do the job for me!
After you have lifted a good amount of the film, you can pull the rest by hand; but it doesn't come off easily and will leave some residue behind. Use a clean cloth to remove the residue. Voila!

Nope. I think that happens only to certain models of the Xperia Z phone.
Though I personally would have been happy if it did come off; don't care too much for the branding and would have liked a plain black front
Will the screen scratch easier without the film, or is it som sort of gorilla glass under the film?

I don't remember exactly the spec, but I am pretty sure it is scratch resistant glass but not the 'gorilla' brand.
I hate screen protectors and am okay with a few minor scratches as long as the don't interfere with the screen when its on.
Worst case, I got Sony Care if the screen gets really damaged and hopefully can get it replaced.
I expect the anti shatter film to be similar to the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GzYnDnZDRg
I'm keeping it on the tablet, at least for now.

Sir, you mentioned that you have already removed pre applied screen protector on your Xperia Arc S, so I was wondering is that this layer about half of millimeter smaller than the whole screen?
please answer as soon as possible.
Thanks!

It's the layer which stands out a bit if you look from the side or feel it with your fingernail. I recommend something like a thumbtack or something else sharp to remove it but watch out not to damage your screen! The screen may be sticky after removing it. Just wash it with a wet cloth some times and after 1 or 2 days of usage it will be gone.
Hi guys.
Straight to the point here - What colour should I get, Black or White? I want the colour that will be most free from scratches/scratching, and even if it does scratch, I want a colour that could possibly hide it well/blend in etc.
Any personal experiences with black or white and scratching?
Thanks
Black is a damn attraction for all the fingerprints and the scratches in the world. Don't know about white.

Black so much fingerprints. But sexy gloss.
i owned both the black and white ultra and i have to say that the black is more prone to scratches and the smudger makes the phone looks ugly, u really have to clean it really often but it's the most sleekest color among the 3 . The white don't show smudges and always looks clean but it makes the phone looks more bigger and more ridiculous in your ear. I love the white too but the only thing i hate is is the silver bezel that surrounds it , i want the screen to be all black without a white/silver border but otherwise it's a very classy looking color. I've seen the purple at the store and i might say that women probably the only liker on this colors as it looks to gayish for a man to use.
but seriously i still have both phone and i can't still make a clear decision
Black is sexier, but my god it attracts fingerprints.

If the white would have a white front like the iphones with holes cut out where the proximity sensor and all that is then I would buy it but not when the whole front is black then the sides and back are different. It looks stupid to me, like asymmetric in a bad way.

It only scratches easily because the z ultra has shatterproof screen protector on both front and back glass panels.
I still have the film on both sides. Don't want to mess with trying to take it off...too lazy and impatient. But the back of my white ultra looks flawless. But if you look closely and in the right light, you will see a ****load of scratches. You really have to be looking for them and up close to notice. The white back hides any imperfection pretty good.
...and yeah, IMO I still think of the z ultra as a premium device and still one of a kind device. I actually preferred it to my note 4. The z ultra is literally sex in a 6.5mm slab.

It would be cool if you can do the same for the front bezel.
yes only you have it
What a waste of a Z Ultra. Seeing the photo hurt me.
The back of the glass has a powder coat that gives it its black shine, I simply went over it with a Stanley blade for 30 minutes and it came off a piece of cake
The only thing keeping the phone waterproof is some adhesive tape that you'll find holding down any phone display which was a shock to see something so basic to keep the water out.
I only Tried it because I've got an Expensive vinyl gold carbon fibre film coming and a glass screen protector in the post tomorrow so if it did go wrong id be covering it up anyway. its a shame there's no motherboard to look at though just a big ass battery
not digging it... but congrats?
Do you take off all the panels on your car, exposing all the wires and structural metal too?
You've turned a sexy device into an eyesore.
^^ @ avetny, BEST picture in the thread, made me ****king laugh out hard.
The .GIF with Putin smiling says it all.
I'm glad your happy with it's uniqueness but to my eyes it has completely ruined the aesthetic appeal of the device. Like it looks homemade and not in a good way.
For those who have lots of experience handling both the Tablet Z and Tablet Z2, ignoring specs, which do you believe is higher quality from a construction stand point ie. better built/stronger/better build quality?
Why are you not comparing the Z2 Tablet to the Z4?
I own both tablets and I can say both have the same built quality.
Between Z2 and Z4 may not have answer because its rare to get someone having both.
Sent from my SGP561 using Tapatalk
I also own both; actually the wife has the Z WiFi, and I the Z2 LTE.
Built quality is the same.
I prefer the Z2 because
The back is non-slip
The headset port is not hidden under a flap.
The magnetic charging port is much more convenient than the micro USB behind the flap solution.

That only goes for the black version, though.
White Xperia devices never have a non-slip or soft touch finish.
Hate to contradict: my Z2 is white and non-slippery.

It may not be particularly slippery, but it doesn't have that soft touch rubberized finish that black Xperias tend to have
The original Z white has a glas finish on tge back. The Z2 has a "matte" finish.
Don't know the black.
If that has rubber finish, I am glad I got the white.
I hate rubberized! All lint wil stick to, and after a few years it starts to rub off and becomes sticky.
Then again that might be just a Logitech issue. DiNovo Edge, MX Revolution, and Harmony1000.

Well I was actually talking about the Xperia devices with a plastic back. Sorry for the confusion.
This discussion is about tablets, anyway. None of the Xperia tablets have glass on the back AFAIK.
