First I'd like to introduce myself, I'm InfamousChicken, or you can call me Tim if you prefer. I can't wait to divulge myself into this community and talk with people and make some friends, now onto my question.
I am buying the Galaxy S4 next week, and I wasn't sure what I should get case wise. I was thinking of getting the Otterbox Commuter, along with getting Glass.tR Is this a wise choice and will it keep my phone and screen safe?
I'd post links if I was allowed to, but with 4 million users I understand they may not want that!
Thanks guys!
Hi Tim, welcome to XDA! You may want to check out the Accessories forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2317
There are a ton of case-specific threads/posts with very helpful reviews and pictures. Personally, I use a red Spigen Neo Hybrid and I love it. There's a ton of photos/reviews in that forum, so check them out.

Thanks, I was looking through that. How do you feel like that is for protection, and how do you feel that is protection for your screen incase you drop it face first?
Yes I also have the neo hybrid case and glasstr by spigen lovly combo. Im sure its good w/a commuter case as well

It has a very minimal lip surrounding the screen, so if it were to fall completely flat, I don't think there would be much for protection. However, most drops land on corners or edges. In that case, I think the Neo Hybrid provides very adequate protection - at least for me. I typically use phones without a case, as I think cases cover up the beauty of the phone and add bulk. This case feels and looks amazing, better than the pictures IMO. The only downside I can think of is the slim cutout of the headphone port.
What about the Spigen Slim Armor case, would it be as equally good or better than the commuter?
The slim armor is on sale if you bundle it with the glass screen protector, 40 dollars for both. That's what I would do.

Hi Tim, Welcome!
I decided on the MIME Ghost Glass for my GS4 for 3 main reasons instead of the Spigen glass protector. To note, I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid case.
1st reason: Spigen glass has a hardness rating of 8H-9H and the MIME was a solid 9H rating (Gorilla Glass 3 i think is a 7H-8H). That means it takes something harder to scratch it.
2nd reason: Spigen has a thickness of .40mm and MIME was .32mm. This i noticed after I installed the glass... The MIME Ghost Glass STILL sits lower then the rubber edge of the Neo Hybrid case so setting it face down, the glass still doesn't touch the table, and it BARELY sits below the case edge leaving me to believe the Spigen glass would be even with or sitting past/above the edge of the case.
3rd reason: I don't think that Spigen has a lifetime warranty with their glass protector. MIME Ghost Glass does. It's lifetime but its not replacement its 60% off your next glass it the first one you bought gets scratched/cracked.
I hope this helps your decision.
Eric
this may be a dumb question, but what is the advantage of a glass screen cover as opposed to flexible plastic one. i just ordered 6 matte/anti-glare covers on ebay for like $5 and they're great. fingerprints are a thing of the past, not that it was that big of a problem with the bare screen. but what is so much better about the glass? i've never covered a phone with a glass screen cover, but i'm definitely interested in why i should be.
it is glass... simply put. It feels just like the gorilla glass so it feels and looks like you have nothing on your phone!
Plus it protect ur screen much better than a plastic protector. I think u get around 3-4 hardness when then spigen glass ones get 8-9 hardness. If u drop ur phone on the screen the glass screen will crack before ur phone screen. Yea its alil pricey for 1 but its worth it

I'm sold on mime glass, my only question now is, what should I get with it to make a solid combo that will keep my phone safe. I guess it is true that in a drop, people are more worried about shattering their screen.
But It's either Spigen Neo Hybrid case.
Otterbox Commuter
Spigen Neo Galaxy S4 Case Slim Armor
or the WorkMate by cygnett
Which is sturdier of the 3? Which spigen neo is sturdier?
I hate both, there's no other way to look at that, I like my phone as it is, but well scratches will come with time, that's a fact too, so I was wondering which to get. I mean if I go for a Tempered Screen Protector, could that save the display from shattering in case of an accidental drop? Or shall I be using a Protective Case? I know that the corners of a phone are the most important parts, that's where protection should be present, so am I wrong to guess that a tempered glass protector can't protect the corners? I am thinking from a phone drop point of view, not normal scratches, for normal scratches I think I don't need a tempered glass screen protector, a normal one shall do.
So what shall I aim for, a case or the other?
If it's a case then which one? I love the UAG cases for the protection it provides, but hate them for their industrial design, but I won't buy something which won't have a good amount of lip around the screen to protect it from drops and kinds. I need something simple and neat looking, low profile and lightweight and the material should be half rugged so that it won't slip out from my palms.
Thanks in advance.
Tempered glass will NOT save the screen from every drop. If it's face impact then yes most likely will save but if impact is on back of phone and no case or very slim case will Crack LCD it self. Wife's note had a super slim tpu case and LCD shattered but both glass were fine.
i always go with glass screen protector and thin tpu jelly type case. doesn't protect if like an otterbox but will be able to handle any of the minor mishaps i might have. i am very careful and treat my phones like gold so it hasn't failed me so far.
i realize there are plenty of things that setup will not protect your phone for but i can not stand to add bulk to any phone no matter how thin it starts out

I don't like because the nilkin one gets fingerprints too easy.
Gonna look into others and change this one
Best one I've used so far is the xtremeguard spartan. Not as bad as others as far as smudge and prints. All though, they changed the design lately, and sold them, was hoping for them to send me the previous design.
Hello,
i just received my Nillkin 3D CP+ Max tempered glass two hours ago,
and guess what? it was damaged 10 minutes later because of my casology vault 1 case!
i wonder what should i do to protect my phone's screen from drops?
any ideas about Anything compatible with that case i should use to protect my phone?
seems like all glass protectors are the same with the cases , also other soft protector isn't designed to protect the phone against drops
what should i do?
Honestly i'm giving up!
I break 3 tempered glass screen protectors with small 0.5m drops. Reason is different from yours. Due to our edge screen, temper glass will get cracked easily.
For your case, u should look for " case friendly " screen protectors. Find those which does not cover the edges or/and full screen. Can be tempered glass, PET or healing verison.
I tried without screen protector. The conclusion is very nice screen but gorilla glass 5 is NOT scratch proof. I got some minor scratches.
In Singapore, we have plenty in physical shops, and online shops like q10sg and lazada etc. selling mobile phone accessories. So i have no links to share with you. Just search for some " case friendly " screen protectors.
Ps:
I wasted about sgd100 on screen protectors. Hahah
I gave up on tempered glass. I use spigen neo flex wet apply for now. Going for lifeproof fre when it comes out.
I basically gave up on TGSP's on these types of devices as well. Display is holding up pretty well w/ my rough handling, haven't seen any scratches yet but I'm sure it'll have some sometime down the line. Lol
Ive spent over $100 on screen protectors for the S8 (whitestone dome was $45) and not a single one has worked. The amount of money Ive paid would have paid for 9 months of Samsung Premium care and with the free month Id get 10 months of insurance which is longer than Ill have this phone. Yes Id still have to pay a $99 deductible but Id have a perfect phone in 24 hours if I break it vs no insurance and a box of useless screen protectors.
Ive been able to return all but one protector so Ive decided to focus my money on insurance and peace of mind knowing that when it breaks Ill have a new one.
Skip the screen protectors and get insurance. The headache is just not worth it. If the scratches get to the point of bothering you, start carrying the phone naked. Eventually you're going to need to file a claim.
Here's another one https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/accessories/type-screen-adhseive-glass-sort-t3618285

I've just got one of those plastic screen protectors from Invisible Shield that doesn't go all the way to the edge. It does the job. Either way, with or without a protector, your phone is still vulnerable to drops.

Oh yeah, I should've mentioned -- I've got a Spigen Neo Hybrid and it slips on/off without any issues and works with the protector.
I've had the same exact issue. I've bought the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case (perfect case by the way, I love it, had the same on my Nexus 6, showcases the back of the phone while protecting it just as well as the well-known neo hybrid case). I knew that the tempered glass screen protectors won't work with it well and I didn't want to waste my money on them. I looked for something different. I ended up buying the official screen protector for under $10 (you get 2 for the price) (this one, only for S8 instead of S8+: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/accessories/official-samsung-s8-screen-protector-t3600373 , model number is Samsung ET-FG950CT).
I thought it might fit with the case. But when I came home, after a while I realized that this isn't gonna work. So I was deciding what to do, return the protector? But then I'd have to find another one, which might be long and expensive journey. I didn't want that.
So I grabbed my scissors and started to cut the protector carefully. There was not much I could lose. I cutted it to the point where it doesn't interfere with the case, but covers pretty much the whole display. It isn't the most elegant solution, but it works and I am satisfied with it. And I still got one screen protector to repeat the process in case this one ever gets damaged

The tempered glass that works for me is the Ankoon tempered glass screen protector. The screen protector just covers up to about where the edge begins to curve. In that way when you put a case on it, it doesn't rub up against it were it bends the tempered glass protector.
I have the GS8 with the Spigen Neo Hybrid case and I do not have any problems with the tempered glass screen protector lifting against the case. If you do get this tempered glass screen protector, I would advise you to get the 2-pack of this screen protector since its not that much more than the single pack and you have a spare screen protector handy to replace the current screen protector if it starts to break down.

i opened the link at amazon and i saw A LOT of angry people reviewing the Protector
Same, I would only trust full adhesive ones and not ones with adhesives on the sides only.
I guess I got lucky on mine. Have the S8 Plus and have had no problems at all with my screen protector. I read up on them beforehand and read plenty of reviews and just decided to not even attempt a glass screen protector.
I ordered two kinds on Amazon. The IQ Shield liquid skin, and the Spigen Neo-flex. I put the IQ Shield on, took maybe 10 minutes, and haven't had a single issue after about a month now, all the edges are still stuck down. It's very clear and seems durable. It reminds me of a Zagg invisible shield but not nearly as "rubbery" feel. It feels like a cross between a Zagg invisible shield and a glass one. I'm still on the first one so haven't had a chance to compare it to the Spigen and I also have a spare IQ Shield.
I also ordered the Caseology coastline series slim transparent cover. Works great with the above screen protector. Like they were made for each other and it protects great. It's taken quite a few drops and at least twice has flown out of my cycling top flying down the road at 23 mph. Barely a scratch!!

Yes because they are bunch of noobs that do not know how to apply this tempered glass screen protector. Anyways it seems like with these curved screens almost all of the tempered glass screen protectors just have adhesives on the side and you stick it on.
I was like you fed up and almost just gave in to do the wet screen protectors but just the mere thought of having to spray the beautiful phone with the solution and squeegee out the excess AND not to mention that you have to wait like half a day for the thing to dry out before using it made me at least consider trying 1 more tempered glass screen protector which this one talked about having less real estate it covers to provide enough cushion to apply a case and sure it enough it worked for me. I ordered the 2 pack version which is through the link below. For some reason Amazon separated the product reviews so this one has more positive reviews but you are never going to satisfy everyone.
I guess I could post a pic to show what my phone looks like with the screen protector on and the case.

There is no need to use screen protector in today's phones. I stopped in late 2015 and none of my phones got any scratches on screen (and I put them in my bag with my keys all the time). The gorilla glass 4/5 are super strong and scratch resistant.
I bought a couple from AliExpress dint work as well as needed the screen fully works but bringing the notification panel down was an issue but give the Whitestone dome protector i have a friend who uses it and says its brilliant though its pretty expensive but rather 50 bucks than getting a new screen my Opinion
Just got these in 2 days ago and it works great! They actually have the screen protector just the right width do that the case does not peel up the glass, also my old Spigen case doesn't peel it up either, just throwing that out there if you dont like the cases.

My mother and I have had the S8 since release. We have never had an issue with breaking the screens until this phone! The Zagg one on release day absolutely stunk as the adhesive was only on the curved part of the protector leaving the whole screen non responsive to our touch. Since then we have been daring and been going without one. Within the last 3 months my mother dropped her phone twice. The phone was replaced at a $149 deductible the first time. I refuse to pay it again until I can find a screen protector that works!
Please help!

Doesn't make since to make another thread, but I'm looking for something that's similar. Preferably one that is case friendly, doesn't ruin touch sensitivity, and doesn't have a weird cutout for the sensors at the top. I bought the Pro Glass one in the above post, but it wasn't case friendly.

As far as I know, having tempered glass only won't help when the phone drops.
For myself, I watched several people try drop testing S8 using rhino shield bumper case (can search on YouTube). I too, have one, but since I don't like the glass back getting smeared with fingerprint, I go to otterbox defender (a hefty one), and finally to spigen tough armor (the one I currently use).
For record, I have dropped my phone twice (forgot whether using defender or rhinoshield), without any tempered glass, and the phone is still working without flaw.

Neither is wasting money on cheaper versions that just don't work. If this one actually prevents screen damage without compromising the user experience then it's a good investment.

What case are you using with your GOBUKEE?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074SJV133/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got these. There is about ~1mm gap between top and bottom edges clearance with spigen tough armor on. The sides of the glass are almost right on the edges of the case. I don't recommend using it without a case or with rhino bumper bc it doesn't go to the edges and feels weird bc of the extra gap. It does come with a tool that clips onto the phone to line it up perfect. I'm happy with it.
I'm using a Spigen case. I do have an S8 active, so the case is different, but Spigen makes great stuff
Incipio Plex Plus Shield Edge is awesome, had mine for a couple months and it's still attached lol
I purchased these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078W2LZM6?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd
It may be a PET protector but it does the job and is super thin and case friendly. Another aspect is that it's cheap! 3 for 8 bucks and was easy to install.

What is the best Glass Screen Protector for Galaxy S8
I've always admired how my friend’s phone looked so seamless and smooth, it always fooled me thinking that his screen protector came with the phone when he purchased it. To my surprise, he installed it himself. Now I’m not a bad friend, but this guy can get excruciatingly stupid at times. I thought if someone as dense as him had managed to somehow not mess up with wet installation, how hard can it be?
I got the Ounier screen protectors, a squeegee, a tiny piece of cloth, a manual, and a small bottle spray solution. I’m the old-fashioned type, I never even knew that “wet installation” is actually a thing if not for my buddy. All these items looked so weird to me. I’ll never understand how people come up with this stuff but if it works, then it's fine with me.
Is the included clear case tempered glass screen protector friendly, or does it lift it up from corners? Any recommendations for screen protector? And if that included one is no good, also recommendation for clear case is appreciated.
im using the MOFI full screen tempered glass screen protector with the factory case without issue.... just too bad the MOFi looks like a oild slick in the middle of the screen otherwise it would be perfect
I bought a Spigen case which is, as usual, nice and protective.
For the tempered glass, i bought a Force Glass ($$$) which is really nice to touch without fingers trails, but finally it's ****. Like all the S8/S9 (not dome glass) it's only glued with the edges and not very well, so it'll become dirty fast . And if you look at it under a bright sun you don't see anything.
I don't recommend to buy this "way too expansive" Force glass! I regret it! 2$ glass will do a better job.
Am I not right in thinking this phone comes with a screen protector already on it.? Mine looks like it does, obv don't want to try and take it off in case it is one lol... Came with a clear case too
Cheap tempered glass + clear case (Huawei case)
I used the clear case which came with the phone as for tempered glass I used a cheap (£1.99) from eBay.
The tempered glass covers the screen almost perfect. It isn't edge to edge, but it is wide as the screen.
The glass hasn't got a good oleophobic coating, but is better than the plastic one and has adhesive on entire surface. (i would add a photo but I've got no clue how?

I've applied Zabra tempered glass (Amazon purchase) without any bubbles but after applying the Huawei clear case, edges came out, disabling my screen touch features.
Highly not recommended to buy this "Zabra full glue 9H tempered glass screen protector"
On of the best tempered glass for P20 PRO is Nillkin the hall series..
I have try Nillkin amazing H (3mm cover real screen leave 2mm at the edges case friendly) Nillkin amazing H+ (2,6mm cover real screen leave 2mm at the edges case friendly best clarity) & Nillkin CP-MAX 3D (3mm Full Cover edge to edge full adhesive full glue)
They are all fit perfect with excellent fit & clarity
No bubbles, no rainbow effect, no halo effect, no dot matrix, no fingerprints
I prefer CP-MAX 3D for full protection with original clear silicone case or ipaky case
I have bought the Spigen tempered glass screen protector and Spigen Ultra Hybrid Crystal Clear case recently
those side adhesive screen protectors suck!!!
whitestone is loca based and because of that full adhesive and it will be released in a week or so on amazon. great feel to the proctector, just like the original screen, no 3d dot matrix, no problems with touch sensitivity, almost no fingerprints and if they are gone with one wipe and so on.
i will get it asap since it's doing fantastic on my note 8 for over 9 months now.
i got the spigen rugged armour and i love it. Feels great in your hands. its like velvety soft. Using this with the stock screen protector, which i feel is sufficient for me
i just wish spigen released the ultra hybrid clear case with a built in kickstand for this phone.
I've never used a protector on my previous phones but opted for the Spigen and think it's great. Had it in five days now, doesn't get too messy from fingerprints and only issue with haloing was my fault, had to take it off a couple times as I want happy with how I put it on. I bought the Spigen Slim Armor case ( £15 ) and Spigen Tempered Glass ( about £8 ) and am very happy with both. I moved from Otterbox a few years ago when I couldn't see a decent case that I liked. I've had 4 Spigen cases for various phones so far and have never been let down to date
ESR products for me fits perfectly
It looks like there are not much good options for this phone (compared to my last one), I have ordered the spigen ultra hybrid (transparent) & tempered glass combo.
I'll post photos with the result
Do some regions not get an included case? I just bought this device yesterday in Canada and there was no case with it.
Spigen crystal clear case and Nillkin Amazing H+ for tempered screen. Trust me, this glass protector is the only one I have found to not retain fingerprints and to stick perfectly and evenly on the 20 pro. If you correctly align it with the edges of the screen, there will be no air pocket whatsoever. It's impressive.
Anybody know the brand of this screen protector and where I can get one? I'm most interested because, well, it's full screen and not just adhesive around the edge. But also the guy mentioned it works with the case I'm going to be using ( UAG ) .
