Battery Drain Issue - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hey guys, so I just got the Z Ultra C6833 with 4.4.4 Kitkat, and battery is going down very fast, and gets me a little worried. I have the brightness set to the lowest, however I am not even using the phone, just simply keeping the screen on with doing nothing and battery is dropping from 100% to lets say 95% in about 1-2 minutes.
Something does not seem right, what do you guys think? Can someone please give me some input. Also no suggestions on rooting or anything like that if wouldn't mind.
This would cause me some bad issues because I cant have my battery drain that fast, just not acceptable.
Thanks.

you can check the battery logs in settings, see if you can find out what uses the battery.
Also, there are some programs you can download that can monitor your device ("CPU Monitor" is one) and tell you what is going on.

do you have location based services turned on, and does the phone get a GPS fix quick?

Download Greenify app and then Greenify all the apps that you don't require to run in the background unnecessarily. It greatly improves battery performance. In addition you can apply the Stamina Mode.

[Q] 60 percent idle battery usage / 15 hours

I am having huge issues with my battery on my galaxy s2. It drains really fast, 60% over the last 15 hours this night when the phone has been idle. This has been an issue for about a week now; I cannot seem to find a solution? I have tried various roms, wiping and doing a clean install, but the problem continues. Currently using lightening rom 3,2.
Do anyone know what can be causing this battery drain? Is the battery defective??
What apps do you have installed?

That is quite a drain I can see there. The drain might be caused by having too many widgets or having too many applications open. If you plan to put it on standby, do close those apps that are not important to you.
Have you tried rebooting?
I have a stock lightening rom 3,2. no apps installed, except titanium backup pro and opera mobile. I have frozen all kinds of stuff in titanium to try find the cultprit, but without success. As you see, no apps except andoid OS is running. Same drain on villainrom, lightening. Don't know what can be causing the error. Is there some way to check if the phone or the battery it self is to blame?
Try with screen on - normally I think that should run for 6 hours or so. Using that as a reference, you can check to see if the energy stored in the battery is normal. It doesn't look like your OS is staying overly active to me.
Hi bjorninge,
Every time after you flash a new ROM you should calibrate your battery.
Get the app "battery calibration" from the market and follow instructions and please report back whether you can achieve better performance.

I have a similar issue, as was the same with my captivate. I have stock ROM on my GS2 though, the way I got it out of the box pretty much. Android OS takes up most of the battery usage. I don't know what it is. Widgets updating constantly? The constant syncing from Gmail/push email?
Well that's surprising! Awake and Screen On bar is quite low and totally synchronized, yet 60% drain, now I gotta say it's weird.

Tried calibrating the battery, but it doesn't seem to help too much

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you've described above. I am running on stock KE2 kernel and the battery drain is quite a lot. The 'Android OS' is always consuming a lot of processor time on standby mode.
This needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!
Download and install the app BetterBatteryStats from Android section, it is a very useful app which will show what Awaking the device from deep sleep and processes too. For me, it was the damn Latitude stuff going on background and wasn't letting the device to go to deep sleep.
Regards.

Thanks for the tip. I have downloaded the app now. what spesifically should I look for?
You just look under 'Wakelocks' and you will know what apps are causing the Awake, then you could take further steps.
Regards.
Would be great if you could look at the screenshot and tell me if something is wrong. Also, after the battery calibration, I've "only" lost 26% the last 7 hours mostly idling. I don't see anything abnormal in the screenshot I provided :/
Well nothing is wrong imo as everything is very low. You should check those which are using more than 10 mins Wakelock, some seconds doesn't matter actually. And you can post any query further to the original thread of this app, here,

Regards.
OK, So I'm now back to 12% battery usage (from 100% to 88%) with 17 hours and 30 mins on battery, which IMO is normal.
What did I do? Well, I removed the battery and put the rest of the phone into the stove for an hour on 50-60 degreed celsius. My 98% android OS usage is gone and the battery works as normal .I also had problems with the phone constantly going into "car mode" which is now gone.
I got some tips around the internet that my issues were all related to moisture on the inside of the phone.

Standby current and identifying problem processes.

Those of you using a battery app, what is your usual standby battery drain? I have been having some issues lately trying identify what's killing my battery on standby. I get pretty decent battery life using the device, but it seems to drain quickly on standby.
I am seeing 100ma+ with Wifi on, after turning all radios off and rebooting I can get it down to ~20ma or lower. It seems in the battery usage screen in settings that "Android OS" is using a lot of the battery, but it's hard to tell what actual service or process it is. Is there anyway to pinpoint the exact service or process munching the battery?
Thanks.
I'm no expert on this app, but Betterbatterystats might give you some useful information.

Thanks! That actually helped me narrow it down, it seems to be the "locationfriendservice" part of google maps, and a quick search indicated that this is a big problem for lots of folks.
It's possible I just had noticed it before when I was all stock, so I was thinking it was a result of a new kernel or something.
I have done what I can to mitigate the battery-hungry maps processes and will see tonight if I can retain better battery life (was losing like 10%+ in 6 hours on standby!).

Battery drop, 91%-17%

Hie guys, I just woke today to see my phone was off and when I switched it on the battery was @17%, from the battery stats in settings it shows my phone switched off after 2hours of me sleeping. So what can really make a phone lose 74% battery whilst it's OFF??!!
Help me or you can paste me a link to where similar problems have been discussed.
Thanx.

Download a battery calibration tool off the market and use it, I have had this happen to me before where i would lose over 50% of battery life just by restarting my phone, and it would gradually go back up.
Also check if their are any updates for your rom and os you are running

Probably a pointless exercise since it's been proven you can't "calibrate" the battery in an S2.
I've had something similar happen, I was raping my battery with a torch app then restarted. Before the restart I had about 90%, after it was around 30%.
Could it be a sign of the battery failing? I've not had any real problems otherwise..
Perhaps you have wake locks? Purchase better battery stats or download it using the search button.
A high battery drain is often a limiting factor for a great user experience.
With BetterBatteryStats you can analyse the behavior of your phone, find applications causing the phone to drain battery while it is supposed to be asleep and measure the effect of corrective actions:
- Spot drainers based on detailed information about the root cause
- Use the online Knowledge-Base to find how to reduce or remove the wakelocks
- measure the effect of actions to reduce drain
- detect changes in the awake/sleep profile and quickly find the causes (rogue apps)

Battery drain during standby/sleep

Has anyone noticed significant battery drain whilst the screen is off, my phone loses around 1-3 % every hour even when there are no programs running. I have monitored the running apps and uninstalled many that were running in the background. Does this mean that the 5th core is not activating or am I doing something wrong, google now, wifi, bluetooth, 3g, etc are all turned off, If anyone experiences similar issues or knows a solution please post, other than that the battery life on this device is actually pretty good despite all the people stating how horrible and unsatisfactory it may be.
I believe someone mentioned that the WiFi is the cause of the drain while the phone is on, is your WiFi on while it's sleeping?

Google Now may cause battery drain while on standby, I think. You might want to install Better Battery Stats so you'll know what's eating up your battery while the phone is in sleep mode.
My WiFi, Bluetooth and 3g are all turned off and Google now has been disabled, don't know what is causing the drain but the people over at the original one X forum are sating that standby drain is higher as of the jb update which I find odd seeing that the battery life is better screen on.
Turn off auto sync & just enable it when you need to, or use an app that will enable it for you after a certain time period.

Nah I can go a day and half on stand by with little use. I have 30+ apps installed and mods to firmware plus nik3r's custom elite kernel.
I'd say its one of your obscure apps you still have I stalled. Do a factory reset on your phone and install each app one at a time each hr monitoring the drain till you find the culprit.
Install nik3r's kernel.

1) go to Facebook app, disable chat, disable location... disable auto updates/notifications too if you can. This crap (especially the latest version) can take 20% of your battery life easily.
2) go to Google Maps settings, disable all the tracking/reporting options out there (up to 15% battery life without ever even starting the map app)
3) install EliteKernel and use power saving if you need that extra standby juice (it actually saves power in my flavor compared to the stock version)
There - fixed.
Wifi is not the issue, I get better life on 100% wifi than on data connection. It's the apps that actually use tha data.
Thanks guys much better now!
turn off this, do not use that.....
if is this the solution what is this? a phone or what?
only hope a room that end with this battery drain, is not normal that my wife S3, the same battery (2100mA) like hox+ has more hours, and not only 1 or 2, 6 hours more battery life, both without use.... in the same place, we did it as a test and..... that´s the Q, why? we have the same apps installed, and we have the same on, wifi, data, gps, blutooth..... the same conditions

[Q] Help - ANDROID SYSTEM, GOOGLE SERVICES AND BATTERY DRAIN RELATIONSHIP

Anyone with some knowledge about the system and their workings (and what caused the battery drain), PLEASE HELP!
Attachment file is screenshots from GSAM, and the help I need is to understand what is causing it, or what would be just as nice is to learn how to stop it.
Basic info
Still .475 firmware
rooted with Vroot
Stamina off, but happens to an extent with but not as severly with Stamina on
I have Greenify installed, but doubt that this is the cause, since it happened before installation too
Only the chinese SU and Google+ disabled by going into system/apps
Here is the flow of what happened.
I Fully charged to 100%, disconnected and went to bed listening to podcasts (Beyond Pod)
I wake up 5 and 1/2 hrs later to find battery down to 15%
I open GSAM, take screenshots of what looks suspicious
I note that App usage is whopping 92%, where the screen is only accounting for 1.1% usage of screen.
Of the 90%+ of power used by apps, close look tells me is 44.7% is Android System, and 41% is Google services
Looking further into these 2 culprits, is where I get lost.
Is it something about wake lock? CPU usage (background)? WifiStateMachine is high up in the list of both Sysytem and Google services?
%numbers tells me that they are something to do with it, but I have no further understanding, thus powerless to prevent or cure.
As the first screenshot will tell u, when things were smooth, I get 15-16 hrs of Batt life
Any suggestions/actions???
If this is any hint, I have no idea, but once I remember seeing in notification bar a notice saying that some app was preventing Stamina mode from going into sleep mode...
It seems I faied to attach screenshots. Here are the missing ones in attachment
Interesting. I also use vroot and 475 kernel workaround to root my 510. Your phone clearly didn't enter deep sleep all that time.. Held awake for 5+ hours, and WiFi is on for almost 5 hours initiated by google service (strange, in my phone google service doesn't initiate WiFi on) but your first screenshot suggests that WiFi is active for only 33 minutes.. Looks like conflicting information.
My ZU also sucks a lot of power when held awake (not as fast as yours though - almost 100% in 5 hour is full screen-on for me; logging gps track with screen off is around 50% down in 4 hours) and the major power drain is the kernel, android service, and google service. Looks like a lot of background processing, but I can't figure out what's the specific cause(s) is..
For those with more proficiency in these things, is there any recommended place in the internet to start deciphering the power usage logs?

Yes, please, anyone?
Just to give update on what has happened since....
Still on .475 HK Firmware.
I have traced back what apps I have installed (in order, un-installed them one by one)
I dont know if the conclusion I reach is correct or not, but results seem to have solved it.
The 2 apps I have rid since are GREENIFY and TITANIUM BACKUP.
My guess is that Greenify was maybe the culprit?
It worked well on my previous device. But Not Z Ultra. Is it because it is SD 800 and it takes different kind of working/updating to fully compliment this SoC, Z ultra being the first out with SD800?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Does Greenify feel like it is working for you? Can you feel battery life being longer? Depending on your opinion, I might give it a try again...

Yes, the hibernated apps are not giving notification anymore and gsam battery didn't report any wakelocks in sleep from them. But I can't really say about battery life, though, since in my case, sony's stamina mode is the main factor for battery saving. I treat greenify as a tool to minimizing data footprint.
