[Q] PLEASE HELP!!! OTA Update Problem - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I just did a software update on my HTC One (AT&T,stock ROM, stock Recovery) and it failed. The update successfully downloaded and installed, then went through 77 optimizations. After that it went to the lock screen, but when I swiped up, instead of going to my home screen it keeps displaying a popup that says:
Unauthorized device
This app is not compatible with your phone
OK
All I can do is press OK and every time I do, it just displays that popup again. I have the bar at the top of the screen that shows the time, battery life, data signal status, notifications, etc., and I can swipe it down and enter that menu, but I can't access my home screen or any of the other screens. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Or can anyone help me fix this? I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thank you for your time.

I just tried a factory reset to no avail. It is still doing exactly the same thing.

I had to get into settings from the pulldown then apps/running/ and clear the cache for google services and google search

[Q] Cant reselect phone icon for lock screen shortcut?!?

After getting the software updates installed and the phone rebooted I noticed the left lock screen shortcut which I believe was "phone" is gone. I tried to add it back but am unable to. "phone" does not show up however it does on my evo.

From what I've read is that this happens after an OTA you have to do a factory reset and it is supposed to come back.
From the home screen if you hit:
Menu Button --> options --> system updates --> HTC Software Update --> Check now.
It should show some updates to install. One being an update to the HTC Lock Screen. Do the updates and reboot your phone.
That will correct this issue.

Bugs - Apps/Widgets

I have been having a few issues lately...I have done all of the firmware updates that have popped up on my screen. Randomly if I try to add a widget/app to my home screen by long pressing on the home screen nothing shows up in the widgets/apps/wallpapers categories and I am unable to add anything to the home screen. I also tried adding an app by going to the app drawer and long pressing on the specific app...in this case youtube...and when I would place it on the home screen in a specific location it would just disappear. Also I have noticed that randomly some of my apps would just vanish from my app drawer like they aren't installed and would come back only after a restart.
I am fully stock (no root), fully updated. I do have a microSD card plugged in at all times but I haven't put anything on it yet. Other than that it's just as it was when I opened the box.
If anybody else is having these issues/has a fix for these issues please let me know.
Any help is appreciated. I searched the forum but couldn't find anything...I hope it's not just on mine.

CM11 Problems

I've just this minute flashed the latest CM11 zip file on my SIII through the CM update in the settings and I was surprised to see that it was relatively slower than other updates and there was also a lot of screen tearing and juttering when going from app to app and scrolling down the screen.
Anyway, the problem occurred when I tried going to back to an older version, it successfully installed the older version without a hitch but the problem is that the home screen UI crashes every time I press the home button. I can do everything else on my phone, I can pull down the notification pane and gain access to all the tiles there and if I get a facebook notification for example, I can load up facebook but as soon as I press the home button I get a message saying 'Unfortunately, Trebuchet has stopped.'
I know there are always problems when reverting back to a previous version but I was wondering if there would be an easy way to fix this without having to factory reset my phone.
EDIT - I just updated back to the latest version and the home screen UI is back but I don't really want to be on this version as it is laggy so if there's a way to use an older version without the home screen error then I'm all ears.
As you can see with the screenshot, I have the settings open which I opened through the tiles pane but trying to press the home button will result in that message popping up every time.

Just go back to a nightly where it didnt crash and you have a smooth UI. There is no problem with that. Dirty flashing works in both directions

That what I did do. I was using cm-11-20140131 then I updated to cm-11-20140202 which was laggy so I reverted back to cm-11-20140131 which was working before the update and this is where I encountered the home screen UI crash

Try another nightly. If you can open the settings, go to apps and look for the launcher. Clear its data and cache then

Same, with my GS4. Tried going back a few nightlies and back to the M release, but Trebuchet (or Launcher3) keep crashing even after wiping caches. I'm actually looking under Settings > Apps > All and don't see Launcher/Trebuchet anywhere...

This worked for me: Clearing data and cache
Pull down power menu and select settings
Method 1: Clearing data and cache
Go to system settings >> Apps>>Open “All” tab>>Select Trebuchet
Click Force Close>>Clear data and Clear cache of Trebuchet
Restart the phone

Stuck in Ultra Power Saving Mode.

I've been using nova launcher for months and finally uninstalled the stock S launcher. Today, I went to put my phone into ultra power saving mode and now I cannot exit it. If I get a notification, I can switch to that app and get into system settings, but I cannot exit ultra power saving mode. Without a notification, I can't even turn the screen off. The home button does nothing (no launcher) and the UPSM toggle is missing from the notification window.
So, my question is- does anyone have the stock APK for the Samsung launcher -OR- know an ADB command or some other way to get out of UPSM?
You didn't say whether you looked at the full quick settings palette or just the selected tiles subset? You should find the power saving tile on the full palette. Also does the phone exit UPSM when you fully charge the phone battery?
If that doesn't work, then just download the firmware for your phone and you can extract the stock launcher with winrar.

There are no settings tiles. After I get a notification, I can pull down the notification screen (not before) and hit the gear to get the settings page. In there, there's only wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, mobile networks, location, sound, and brightness. There's no way to get rid of UPSM.
Fully charging it didn't work. Fully discharging it didn't work. Wiping cache and dalvik didn't work.
Can you provide a link to the file in question? I'm not entirely clear on your terminology. I thought the firmware was just for the radio and such while the rom had the program files?

Have you rebooted? Usually does it for me.
I tried taking the battery out, restoring my SYSTEM backup from a few months ago, upgrading to a newer version of the stock rom, and nothing works.
Everything I've tried ends up with the phone going back into UPSM with no way to leave it.

If you are using TWRP there is a file manager under advanced. Use that to navigate to the /system/app directory and rename "Emergency" apk to have .back appended to the end after the .apk. This will "hide" it from the system and should disable it. Btw the name of the apk has Emergency in it i don't recall the exact name of it though.

No we can't. And the reason that we can't is that you didn't provide any details about your phone. The firmware is different for every model of S5 and carrier. We don't know if you have a 900T, 900F, 900A or some other S5 version. We can't see your phone and can do little unless you provide extensive details.
Simply go to a firmware site like sammobile, click on firmware and enter the model number of your phone. Or do a search of this forum. Then use the Odin program to write that firmware (factory software) to your phone.
.
I'm having the same issue on a Verizon S5. Under /system in twrp I don't see anything. Tried chmod but didn't help. Any suggestions?
Apps Drawer
Same thing happened to me. Mine was stuck in between normal and Ultra. I was able to go to my apps drawer, clicked on the gear/settings, found Power then disabled Ultra Power Saving mode there.
I had same issue and I SOLVED it.
No disable option in the notification drawer. Gear 'setting' option (in the notification drawer) only display few setting options (no disable ultra saving mode).
I solve the issue by holding down the HOME button to trigger Google NOW app. In the search bar of Google NOW app, I clicked the microphone button and said "OPEN SETTINGS". This will open the full version of setting window. If you scroll down, you will see the 'POWER SAVING MODE', click it and you will see the disable "ULTRA POWER SAVING MODE" option.
It's a unusual way but it worked.
I also faced the same issue while running Action Launcher 3. Google Now wasn't working for me, so the way I solved it is:
- press and hold the menu button (capacitive button on the left) and select "Manage Apps"
- from the three dots on the top right corner select "Reset app preferences"
- reboot
- pressing the home button showed up "TouchWiz Home", which then allowed me to select "Disable Ultra Power Savings mode"
-done
HTH
I have they same problem with S5 LTE+ on Android 4.4.4. (I hate this ****ing bad Samsung Software!!!!) The above two posts unfortunatly don't work for me because Google Now is not working and Home Button does nothing.
I will try to launch settings due adb if I find a PC to do this (Unfortunatly I'm on holiday at the moment)
Were you able to figure this out? Facing the same issue on my friends phone. Can't believe Samsung would takeover the phone like this.

Best I remember, it had something to do with disabling the stock launcher and I ended up reflashing.
thug_life_inc brought me to my personal solution. I had the problem with the Google Now Launcher. And there is the possibility to go to the app info by placing an app on the home screen, but not dropping it there, but above it (you know the area where you can access app info / delete the app).
That brought me to the settings page for the google app where i could delete the standard launching options.
I had very low battery (maybe 3 or 2%) and then i activated the ultra power saving mode. After a while, the phone battery died, so I recharged it. The problem now is that I got stucked in UPSM. Everything is black and white, I have no acces at any of my apps and the settings is incomplete, I mean I don`t find the "disable UPSM" function. I also cannot factory reset the phone, same reason, I only have acces to wi-fi, bluetooth, volume, brightness and location.
Thank you!!!!

Thank you! It worked for me!
I tried multiple methods include using microphone to trigger Google Now but still nothing in Settings. The idea is trigger the Launcher Picker. here are some notes
Wish I new this sooner, wasted a whole day figuring it out. This fix is way easier
The easy fix - just open the app drawer, drag the google app to app info and drop, clear defaults , when prompted choose you service providers origional default launcher

That is not possible .. in UPSM there is no app drawer or any apps settings.

Almost all apps (including launcher) crash

Hey all,
Just got my new OnePlusX and the first time I turned it on it prompted all the set up screens. I had to skip through them all because the keyboard would not stay open. It would open and then immediately minimize. Not a great start but no problem, I'll add my accounts and connect to wifi later.
Once I get into the 'home screen' I could see my status bar at the top but no icons and no way to access the app draw. I pressed the capacitive buttons and opened the notification slider which both worked and eventually got into the play store. From here I installed an app or two and got prompted to do a system update, which I did.
After the update I was hoping my launcher would work.. it didn't. The home screen is a black screen with the status bar at the top and no icons - the home button seems to do nothing when I'm in an app and press it.
I installed a third party launcher which worked - I now have a home screen and app draw. However, after opening an app, it crashes after a second or two (chompSMS does this as well as messenger, phone and contacts which are stock apps).
Does anyone have any information about this, what can I do here?
I know one option might be flashing a custom rom but being a brand new phone that should most definitely not be something I have to do to be able to call and message people..
Update: I ran a factory reset and all problems seemed to be resolved now. Not sure what was going on but I guess something happened that a reboot couldn't fix. I'll leave this post in case it helps others.
Have you done a factory reset after the system update??
