Scenario: Installed Vegan 5 on gtablet. Play angry Birds and get to level 20, input my location into Weatherbug, setup icons in launcher, configure wireless, write a short note in quickoffice and set up network share in Astro. Now, do a clockwork backup of the rom. I wish to now install TNT lite 4.4. Before installing a new rom you usually wipe partitons, etc. then install the rom. After the install I have to do all these things again, including starting over in Angry Birds! Especially annoying is having to set up the desktop again (after I re-install all the apps). What I would like to be able to do is use TNT-lite 4.4 today and tomorrow restore Vegan 5 and have all my user data and settings from today persist into the other rom. I would think settings are stored somewhere that could be preserved between rom installations. Can this be done?
Not going to happen.
You can use Titanium Backup Pro to backup your apps and data (don't backup system apps though) and restore them with your game progress, etc....
But you can't have persistent configuration/data between different ROM installs.

I was afraid that would be the answer. Going the Titanium Backup route - I'm looking at the backup/restore screen at the list of apps. You recommend not backing up system apps. Short of "just knowing" from experience, is there a way to identify system apps in the list? Clearly Angry Birds is not but what about email 2.2, download manager 2.2, etc. I'm pretty sure they are but is there a definite way to tell? Or, can I just backup the whole batch and then only restore things like Angry Birds to retain my game progress?
There are batch options in the Backup/Restore tab that give you a one click backup of what you are looking for.....
Hit the menu button when on the Backup/Restore tab in Titanium Backup and choose "Batch", then "Backup all User Apps" and this will be all the apps you have downloaded and their data (game progress, notes, etc..).

I assume that I need to configure TB tl write to sdcard2 so it can be restored after a different r.o.m is installed? I'm unclear as to what gets wiped during the install/restore process.
/sdcard does not get wiped unless you repartition the device. You can also sync to dropbox in the paid version.

So I want to back-up all my apps+data , i also want to keep my contacts etc
I have now tb pro. But i don't know which one i need to choose i also don't know how to restore it after i installed the new rom.
After installing new rom tb pro is also gone right?
Can you guys please help me ?
Use batch backup to backup all user apps + system data. Also you'll need the tb apk for re installing after flashing

Indeed, just click on 'Back up' to back up your apps and their data, but only on your own user apps, never system apps. After flashing, install TB from the Play Store and click 'Restore'.

There is no need to backup your contacts, they are automatically backed up by your google account. As soon as you sign in on your new rom it will sync your contacts for you.
If you want to backup your apps you should just use the batch icon in top right and then choose the section for backup of user apps and it will backup your apps and appdata.
On your new simply re-install TB and then use restore option. If it doesnt find your backup location/show backups in batch you will need to go to preferences and choose backup folder location again.
To do all this silently (not click install on each app) you will need to be rooted and have pro version.
PS. This is not a galaxy s2 topic. These types of topics belong in the general/android section as its not device specific.

- through tb..normal backup->restore..update.zip...your choice..
- or any other b&r app
contacts
- sync via google
- import/export trough app (.vcf vcard)
- through tb..backup&restore Contacts data then reboot
[Kontakte 4.1.2-eng.root...]
& optional , cause i don´t know atm if needed..[Kontakte-Speicher 4.1.2-eng.root...]
cwm-backup to be save
yes..at the new rom you will have to install tb first in order to use it.
dowload the apk from authors website to your external sdcard
.u could do.
dowload titanium-backup-apk to your phone..
sync your contacts with google..batch-backup all inc sys apps+data..
make a cwm-backup..copy cwm & titanium backup folders to a safe place..
do your rom-update
do the appropriate settings and install tb..restore what you need and have fun :victory:
Or if you've bought titanium backup you could restore it from store after installation

Backup all (even unbackupable) Android apps!
Enable backing up of all Android apps. Useful for adb tool/Helium app.

OK guys .. where is the feedback " those who already tested it " ..
Such app is always welcomed
Thank you Dev
Will test on 5.1 and report back if it works
Edit: doesn't work
could you give an example of unbackupable app?
E.g. SuperSU, AquaMail. Not possible to backup them via Helium without this module.
It would be a great mod if it would work 100% but there are still some apps on my phone I can't back up with Helium such as Facebook, Messenger and ebay. For some apps it works. Using a Xperia Z running stock 4.4.4 KitKat.

I found out how to activate backup for the rest apps in Helium. You habe to start the apps shown under deactivated backup once. After that you can back them up with Helium.
Edit: I should have tested it first. The apps area listed under able to back up but the process does take too long. So it does not work.
Edit 2: The result of another test is that I can not back up those apps on my external sd card but on my internal memory.

It does not create any shortcut. This mod disables the hook in apps that deactivates the possibility to back these apps up with Helium or adb. There is nothing to set up.
What are the advantages of this over titanium backup? I've never come across an app I can't backup
Great! It's working... :good:

Thanks. OP really needs to put a full description in the main post.
backups?
Have u ever heard of titanium backup?
Titanium backup is not backing up some apps fully called Modern combat 4 whose size is 1.97 Gb (backups only 24 Mb) and the other app called Nine whose size is 338 Mb (Backups only 91 Mb) even after setting value of 2048 MB (2Gb) in 'Select ex external data by max size in MB'
Here's what the dev says in help section:
" v. Extended Backups
Some applications (especially games) require more than just the APK and settings data. In most cases, these are assets of the particular application. In our terms, we call these “external app data”. With Titanium Backup, you can create backups containing these if you have enough storage on your device. To do this, you just need to go to Titanium Backup’s preferences and look for “Backup app external data” option. If you decide to set a limit to the external data, the subsequent option in the preferences namely “Select external data by max size” will allow you to set the respective limits.
Note that Titanium Backup only includes external data that is stored in /sdcard/Android/data/ directory. Some files like the OBB files are big and are downloaded straight from Google, thus never contain user generated content. These files are NOT included and are NOT considered as app external data by Titanium Backup"
Any better backup app? Please let me know.
Hey
Im using Custom Roms now for over a year, but i always have one problem with restoring data.
I mostly use the Google Feature, that restores all your apps. But all the time i have to login in every app again and again. I mostly als make a Titanium Backup, but when i restore these over the preinstalled apps some apps crash or on Lineage OS the whole System was unusable. I also make a TWRP backup, restoring is not always possible when you switch to another Rom.
I also dont own Titanium Backup Pro, so autoinstalling dont work.
How do you restore apps + data ?
What guide did i miss ?
Thanks in advance
move up.
I 'm also interested which app for backup is recommend.
I know oandbackup and TitaniumBackup.
Till know I only tried oandbackup but there are several problems. Backup to SD-Card doesn't work. Also to internal storage the backup was complete but only a few MB big but should have a lot more.

After letting Google install all the apps just restore data from titanium, NOT app+data. Also, if you do this often just buy titanium. You spend so much money on the phone and titanium also works on all your future phones. It really saves you a lot of time and is well worth the money.
Titanium is the answer , it is feature packed as hell.
Also if you want to use a different android version backup to another version (Like from 9 to 10), you can always just restore the Data, it works for me always.
You can let google download all your previous apps in android 10 and then restore only data from Titanium, you can obviously batch select the apps to restore.

About the best way to Backup & Restore Data on Xiaomi phone, if there is a computer, my suggestion is Coolmuster Android Assistant. It's easy and safe. You just need to connect your Xiaomi phone to computer via usb cable, enable usb debugging on it. A deep scan later, you can take backup of your Xiaomi phone with 1-click. After that, you can use it restore data from backup directly.

Does it back up app data ? What about permissions ?
My device: Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F), Custom firmware (Lightrom Pie), Custom Kernel (Thunderstorms 2.3) and Magisk Root
- USB debugging is enabled
*All backups of apps in this example where located on internal storage, existed in TB recovery menu & could be selected for restoring.*
Problem:
Why is that, Titanium Backup, is able to restore apps like for example Firefox, Amazon, eBay, Naptime, Franco KM, 17Track, Root Browser, Wish
but unable to do so (it gets stuck in the process) with some other apps, like for example:
AliExpress, Bird, Lime, Voi, Ringtone Maker, Canvas Student, Tank Stars

Does anyone know for sure if TB *ONLY* has problems restoring split apk's, but has no problem backing them up?
Meaning, if I use TB to backup one of my app's and then export that TB backup (as "separate files"), part of that export will be a "....apk.gz" file which is the APK G-Zipped. And you can un-gzip that file to get the APK.
Can you then install that APK with SAI (Split APK Installer) and it will install OK?
Or, is the problem that TB can not "BACKUP" the apk properly (and thats why any restore of it will crash)?
