I am sure you are right as my friend who is on the Verizon Wireless, and he updated his phone and he lost his root, I will upload a screen shot of my version.
but if you really want to root without tripping knox you can downgrade your firmware to any rom prior to the June update then root with towel root and now you can upgrade with mobile odin to any later roms while keeping root during the mobile odin flash.
however you can't have any custom recovery without tripping knox.

^^ What he said.
The bootloader is not locked. You can downgrade to any stock firmware and flash whatever stock firmware you want. Anything that NOT stock will trip your knox counter warranty status.
I rooted and flat-out deleted all knox apps in the system folder. I have no idea if that tripped my knox counter, I am figuring my knox counter was tripped because I went ahead and flashed TWRP recovery. Removing the Knox apps in /system/app and /system/priv-app are no big deal.

so flash a firmware <june 2014 with odin, root with towel root, then flash newest with odin?
which firmwares are <june 2014?
When you start the mobile odin it specifically says using mobile odin on this divice will trip the knox counter there is no recovery from this. lol so downloaded the ne6 rom flashed with odin and root with towel root. all good now

What'd you use to flash to a earlier stock firmware? Flashify or Flashboot?

Since towelroot isn't working is there another root option for 4.4.4 without tripping Knox?

Any root working at all? Sorry for the original vague title of the thread..
I used Chainfire's auto-root with no problem. Trips Knox, though. But it will root your device on 4.4.4.

I just rooted with kingo and it tripped knox. I am on kitkat 4.4.4 sprint
Towelroot worked flawlessly for me several times on nc5
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001616612 this is the bootloader file . if you upgraded to g900tuvucnk2 by using mobile odin pro and want to upgrade the bootloader as well than flash this file in pc odin under bootloader. this is because mobile odin pro will not flash bootloaders.
Will this screw up root or trip knox?

theoretically you can downgrade the bootloader as well as the firmware to ne6 but I have not tried it on nk2 . my guess is that it shouldnt be a problem . why would you need to downgrade?if it is to root there are two tutorials on how to upgrade to nk2 without tripping knox and being rooted. mine is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t-firmware-t2908019/post56072043#post56072043 and another one by galaxyuser88 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-s5-firmware-knox-0x0-t2909352 they are different procedures but both work. the second one does not use mobile odin pro and involves flashing an older kernel , rooting and then flashing new kernel. but this is only if you have the new firmware installed from pc odin and are not rooted. I hope that makes sense

EASY THERE BUTTERCUP. People have lives outside of xda, just cause you dont get an answer right away does not mean no one wants to help.
Is there any safe method for rooting Samsung galaxy a500f without tripping knox (without loosing warranty), i know about king root but that is not a safe method thanks in advance
KingRoot is perfectly safe, bcoz it doesnt work. And no, there is no method without trippong knox.

I know but as you said before I don't think there is any method right now that can root lollipop a5 without tripping knox
To tell the truth, since 2000, none of my phones not broke. For each of them, since I discovered xda in 2008, I had modified software,so I do not look on the phone warranty.
Take your time, and wait for stable proven solutions.
For now this is warm, new, but unpopular (for the moment) phone.
I have a samsung galaxy s4 Verzion on android 5.0.1 and it's on the of1 update and wondering if theirs anyway to root it. I tried many other roots including towel root, King root, kingo root and all failed.
android 5.0.1
kernel version 3.4.0
baseband version i545vrugof1
build number lrx22c.i545vrugof1
security software version MDF V1.0
Knox version 2.3

I'd love to know if this is possible, too. Now that I can't actually move apps over to my SD card on lollipop, rooting is a necessity. Unfortunately, Verizon and Samsung seem to be following Apple's mindset of not allowing hacking/customization. My phone updated to lollipop and OF1 version of lollipop in the middle of the night without my permission, and now it looks like I'm stuck with it.
There's no root as of now for OF1 but you should be able to Odin the downgrade back to OC1 via muniz post. He has a flashable tar file. The only way that'll work is if you didn't take the OTA and kept root. If you did the OTA and now have OF1 you're stuck for the moment.
so I've done tons of research and lots of people
including me are complaining because there
are no roots or root methods for the new i545vrugof1 update for the galaxy s4 Verzion. for people who didn't update, there are ways to keep your root when you update to of1 but for people who didn't update without flashing a rooted stock rom, there is no hope. you can't downgrade or root your device and you have no choice but to wait for a root method to come out or a new update. so anyone who is making a root for this specific firmware, please do so and help us out and remember to #rootvrugof1

I had successfully rooted I545VRUGOC1 using Kingroot but then I updated to I545VRUGOF1 through Smart Switch, and Kingroot doesn't work now. I've searched a lot but it seems root just isn't available for OF1 as for now. Is it possible that I downgrade back to OC1? Thanks
currently there's no way to root OF1 and you can't go down to any build below it, due to the fact that OF1 has a new bootloader.

are you sure mate? there are tutorials online about downgrading so I was just wondering if it's really impossible? I have the official I545VZWGOC1 firmware file downloaded on my PC, will it not work if I flash it on my phone (currently I545VZWGOF1) using Odin?

downgrading specifically this version?
The bootloader has been updated similar to the way it was from kitkat to lolipop, so downgrade is not possible.
Plenty of people here and here have stated that OF1 bootloader is locked, with failures at downgrading to OC1 .
Go ahead and try it yourself, if you so desire. From my understanding people who tried gotten their phones soft bricked, though I have no idea how to fix.
I'm really interested to see this resolved too!
I just upgraded my phone from 4.4.2 NK1 yesterday to 5.0.1 OC1 and OC1 is still vulnerable to the stagefright bugs....
Could someone who is a developer explain to me why they can't just update the part of Android that needs to be patched..?

Damn I to would love to also see a root or bootloader hack for 5.0.1 OF1.
We have root for the OF1 update! Yes there is a root for this phone however I am having trouble installing the Super SU Binaries. Kingroot will root the phone if you off Knox and disable it. Next I downloaded SuperSU me and installed it on my device. Ran it, uninstalling Kingroot, then, SuperSU popped up asking to update binaries. Clicked yes, then normal and it is done.

Use Kingroot 4.9.6 to root. as soon as it says you have root stop. Then go install Super SU. It will then have you try to up[date binaries. Go download and install Super sume and run it. When Kingroot is uninstalled and done, Super SU will pop back up asking again for the binaries. lick yes and normal installation. Reboot and done. My device is exactly like yours.

You tried rooting with the newly-released CF-Autoroot and it still failed? Or did you use the older version?
Sent from my SM-G925P using Tapatalk
I have used the new CF-Autoroot without issue on OK2. Also using Dual Boot Patcher with CM13.
I would expect this to work

But it will trip knox. It wouldn't hurt to use a newer version of the superuser zip if you can find one.
