Ditto here.
Works fine here, even after the recent update. Perhaps you should uninstall and then reinstall.
Same. I got this message when installing google voice:

It made me wonder if Verizon was blocking it on purpose to try and get more people to pay for their visual voicemail.
Ok, think I figured it out......I had VZWAVSService disabled. Enabled it and now they play just fine from the call log...

I have disabled VZWAVSService too because it was popping up an error message every time I restarted the phone. I'll have to mess with it and see if I can leave it enabled without getting that error message.
So far having VZservice 're enabled I'm not getting that message anymore. I was getting it in the past which is why like everyone else I disabled it. Seems to be good now and I have restarted the phone several times which is when I would get the message.

I defrosted mine, whatever it is, and it force closes soon after every boot just like it did before. I am currently going through all my Google voice voicemails and they play fine, but I think they were already before I defrosted vzwavsservice. I'll freeze it again and see if Google voice voicemail still works.
There is also some Verizon based voicemail on the phone too.

Still no luck here. I re-enabled the VZWAVSerivce and it still popped up when I restarted with a message like "Unfortunately the service stopped". I even tried deleting the cache for that app and still the same prolem.
Oh well, I get the voicemail notifications from Hangouts and Google Voice app now so it's not I'll ever miss them.

Ok, but did un-freezing it at least allow yo to play your voicemails from your call log? Just trying to pinpoint the reason I couldn't at first. With VZWAVSerivce un-frozen I can still play voicemail from the call log so I'm guessing thats the reason. And I only get the force close message when I restart my phone so I can lie with that.
Im curious to see if those who have un-fromzen VZWAVSerivce have voicemail playing from call log again? Thanks!!
You can always try the new Hangouts with Google Voice integrated. I've frozen the VZWAVService and voicemails work through Hangouts perfectly.

I'm not rooted, so I just disabled it in the application manager. There were no voicemails even listed in my call log anymore... which is weird because I remember seeing them listed before with a little play button next to them when it wasn't working. Maybe that's the problem... Maybe disabling VZWavservice removed all those from the call logs and I need to enable it again and have someone call me and leave a VM to see if it shows up again?

I'm hit and miss on Google Hangouts...been using the new Verizon message app as it sends text over wifi and the app itself is multi platform (OIS,OSX,Android,PC,etc..they make an install-able app for all platforms) I'm not sure if Hangouts sends sms over Wifi and if im correct it only sends actual hangouts over wifi? Does Hangouts save sms and hangouts on the server so if I wipe my phone i can get the messages back? (Verizon message does)
I know its slightly off topic but would love to hear a users opinion on Hangouts.
I read in comments on Play Store from Verizon indications that VZWavservice was a rebranded McAfee antivirus.
It is confusing.

If you have Google Voice turned on in Hangouts, all of your texts and calls are done over wifi/data. From what I've seen, your texts are saved online because they show up everywhere that you have Hangouts installed. The nice thing is that SMS and calls can also be done through the Chrome extension as well.
I just read a further response from Verizon on Google Play for the Verizon Support and Protection app, which is rebranded McAfee AV, in which it is clarified that VWZavservice has unrelated to Verizon Support and Protection. They did not clarify what it IS for though.
Could stand for Address Verification Service.

I wish this was the case but it only seems to happen with the Hangouts messages and Google Voice messages. Any SMS sent through hangouts using your Verizon number doesn't get synced to all your other devices running hangouts. Google really should do that.
It would mean no more backing up and restoring text messages when moving to a new phone.

btothec is using VVM. You are using AT&T Messaging, a different app. There's nothing in the settings about playing messages? For the day I used it I got a VM that was converted to text, but it didn't play on my speaker.

wheres this ATT messaging app that gives a transcript of the voicemail message?
You can get it in the market. I uninstalled it because I didn't like the way it took over SMS messaging. Once you install it you lose VVM on the account and have to call CS to get stock VVM back, though, so be aware of that.

That "AT&T Messages" app actually came pre-installed on my Note. I ignored it, though, and chose to sideload the VVM apk instead.

The "AT&T Messages" app handles both text messages and visual voicemail, so the stand-alone sms messaging app no longer handles your text messages. Make sense?

It's FREE on any properly provisioned AT&T LTE device, and $2.99 per month on their 3G devices.

It does take over as VVM and it does display a unified inbox of all messaging. But it doesn't take over SMS/mms from the messaging application. You can still use that or Go SMS or any other if you want...but while AT&T Messages is installed you will get the orange notification in the status bar.

I am not sure if I setup the new phone correctly or not. With my old phone I went under Settings--Call-Voicemail Service and could select voice. With this new phone not seeing the option. Also I have to click and open to view if someone left me a message or not inside of Google Voice application. Is this because of how HTC is doing multi-tasking a little different? Thanks for any help or insight.
I'm not getting voicemail notifications from GV either. It started after I flashed a custom rom.
could be the sleep issue that seems to be plaguing everyone, but other than that im not sure what it could be
I saw someone else post but did not fully understand the sleep issue and since I have not unlock phone was not clear if that is what cause the problem or stock has the same issue. Thanks for the information.

i really don't know if it affects stock, but since all custom roms are having the issue then i would guess its also a stock issue? just a guess though since i dont develop roms, i just tweak them to my liking lol
I just called myself from a land line and left a voicemail. Within 30 seconds, I got an email and a text from GV notifying me of the new VM. I'm on Fresh 5.1.1 and have been about a week now. This is the first I've heard of this problem so I was worried that maybe something had recently changed. All appears to be fine here.

That's not the issue. Those are separate notifications. He's talking about getting a notification directly from the google voice app. You can turn off text and email notifications and just rely on the app. I have not been getting notifications from the app either.
You are correct timtlm that the app is not giving me the notifications anymore or I guess ever but still pretty new to the phone. Also wanted to mention in my old Evo 4g I had it setup to not to use the carrier voicemail service. Does not seem to be an option but that might be because of IC version.

OK, I just got it to show the notification. I had checked the settings in the app to be able to review google voicemail within the call history. I'm guessing sense doesn't support that since I don't see anything in the call history. After unchecking that, I started to get notifications again.

I unchecked it. It's in the Google voice app under menu, settings, voicemail display. It was unchecked by default. It's supposed to be a new ICS feature.
I already have that one checked. This is just so strange but guessing it has something to do with the sleep feature of the phone.

He said he UNCHECKED it i believe.
I also was not getting notifications for voicemails, but was for texts so I don't think it is a sleep issue. Sounds like unchecking that setting should give me voicemail notifications too, thanks.
I've been using Google Voice with these settings from the Sync And Notifications menu with no problems. I never did set up the Voicemail on the phone, and for messaging its Google Voice unless its a MMS instead of SMS. Google voice doesn't support MMS so it automatically goes to the messaging app. Notification works fine for all.
Just flashed cm11 and don't get GV text notifications.
Well I see them slide up in the top if I'm looking while I get a text but they don't stick. (Or no notification if it's off)
I didn't set up vm within GV, and I've reset GV app data, still no luck.
Also I use 2 accounts. 1 main one for email (and app purchases), and 1 primarily for Google voice.
I have no sync off for gv account. But the thing is the same setup on my tablet, I get notifications. (Same amounts, same sync settings, running jelly bean on tab, kit kat on phone)
Any suggestions?
So I don't know if it's just me, but I noticed lately that my stock messaging app doesn't display all my text messages. For example, twice today someone sent me a message, and twice they were wondering why I never replied. I do have my sprint number set as my Google voice number, but I hardly ever use the google voice app to send text messages. Oddly enough, all my messages are displayed in my Google voice app, so I did receive them. Does anyone have am idea why the stock messaging app just doesn't display some messages?
Your going to have to uninstall and deactivate your Google voice. For some reason, no matter what setting you have Google voice, it will intercept all your calls and text.
I had to deactivate my Google voice account and wait the recommended 15 minutes. Reboot your phone and you should be fine.

You can still keep using Voice for voicemail while having text messages get handled by Sprint. Here's how:

Reboot (this is important). This should allow you to already have text messages working but to also have voicemail working in perfect harmony, do this:
Open up Google Voice again but follow my instructions for activating it. In the first screen hit skip NOT next. Next will activate Voice with full settings -- we don't want that:
Select your account and hit sign in. Hit Next and select how you want it to handle international calls (I chose mine to ask me every time). Hit Next and touch the 'dial *284066466449' button and wait for it to go through. Then go back and hit configure, select Google Voice.
To verify that you did it right, your Google Voice account (if you go into it with your browser -- voice.google.com) should look like mine:
Notice there is no 'text messages' or anything like that on the left hand side or tabs. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll look into it more. I had this issue before and it was annoying. Couldn't find a solution until I messed with it myself.
EDIT: After re-setting up Voice (had to disable it for screenshots ) I noticed that it now has a setting to allow messaging app to deal with texts. Settings> Notifications> Receive text messages through messaging app.
I can't vouch for that method, however.
It's not Google voice. It's the Evo. I don't have Google voice and I don't receive texts from at least three differ people. I been pissed about it for days. I'm about to download a messaging app and see if that help

In his case it is Google Voice (probably, since they do show up in Voice). With you, I would recommend profile update but if you already did that, early on some people were having issues with phone going into roaming and getting texts late or not at all. Re provisioning the phone fixed it.

Had this problem when google updated when i had my shift. You can just update through the online gvoice settings as well. (not the app, via the web)
sent from my LTEvo
I've seen plenty of posts where people are trying to get AT&T VVM to work on an ICS/JB ROM. Some are successful, some aren't.
I missed - from my iPhone days - a TRUE VVM... an INTEGRATED VVM. I feel that having to open a 3rd party app is a very inelegant solution.
This post will serve as a guide on firstly; how to setup the Note to work with Google Voice, as the automated setup just plum doesn't work, and secondly; how to integrate it into the Call Log.*
* NOTE: Integration with the call log currently only supports an AOSP (CM/AOKP/LiquidSmooth/etc) Dialer and possibly any 3rd party dialer that explicitly states compatibility with GV. Sadly, TouchWiz Dialer does NOT support integration. So neither the GB nor ICS stock ROMs' dialers will support this.
One of Google's services is Google Voice. Many people use it for SMS and VOIP, but you can also use it strictly as a Voicemail service.
First things first. You have to be provisioned by your Carrier for Visual Voicemail. As I'm on AT&T and came from an iPhone, I already was. So I had nothing to do here.
Just for the record, my phone is:
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note
CyanogenMod 9.1.0
STEP 1
Go to Google Voice on a PC.
Log in, and set up Google Voice. For straight VM purposes, you do not want to make outgoing calls with GV. Be sure to choose that.
Once initially setup, you will click on the Settings gear at the top right, then click Settings.
Now click on the link that states "Activate Voicemail". (you would have this during initial setup, but this is how to return here always)
You'll be presented with the following box of information:
NOTE: you will NOT do what this box instructs you to do. This is the part that does not work.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Jot down the number you see after the *004*. This is your GV VVM routing number.
STEP 2
Install Google Voice on your phone and setup.
Simple enough. Here's the link for the Play Store
Open the app. You'll want to sign in with your gmail account that you created the GV account with on your PC.
You'll step through the setup. Be sure to select as shown below:
Once you reach the below screen, select SKIP. (This is due to the auto-config being ineffective)
Once you've finished the setup of the app, you'll eventually be looking at a GV screen that's empty of VMs (or not if you've used it before).
You're done here for now.
STEP 3
Setup your Dialer manually to forward calls to GV instead of Carrier VM.
Open your dialer, hit the menu key, then select Settings.
Ignore everything else about VMs, scroll to the bottom and select Call Forwarding
After this loads data from the Carrier, you'll be looking at three sections with numbers in them. These numbers are your Carrier's specific routing number to forward unanswered calls to their VM service. Record this number down if you wish.
Tap the first box with a number in it, then change it to the number you recorded down from the GV webpage.
Repeat this for the following two sections with numbers. You want all three to route to the same GV VM routing number.
STEP 4
Integrating GV with the phone's Dialer.
At this point. Your phone is setup and will work. You can go ahead and test it out if you'd like. By default (i think), GV will transcribe any message left to you and send you an email and sms with the contents, along with making an entry in the GV app on your phone. This is OK, but it's still not INTEGRATED, like I'm used to with an iPhone.
So, right now, the Call Log in the Dialer looks like this:
Open the GV app.
Hit the menu key, then select Settings.
Select the option "Voicemail Display" (honestly they should make this bold and name it INTEGRATE TO CALL LOG)
Now open your Phone and go to the Call Log. If you have any VMs, it will look like this now:
If you tap on the Play button by an entry, it'll go to the following screen:
And there you have it. Now, don't you feel silly for trying till you're blue in the face to make the AT&T VVM app work? It's trash compared to this. PERIOD.
-John.

I haven't used ATT Vmail (visual or otherwise) in years. I use GVM instead. Not sure what the issue is or why the above is needed (and I am not trying to put the OP down), but I simply put GVM as my voicemail number a couple of years ago and now I get both a text and an email with a fairly accurate transcription of the VM. If the transcription is really bad, or it has specific information that I really need, I press "play message" from my email voicemail transcription and it opens a browser window, automatically downloads the Vmail as an MP3 and I listen to it.
EDIT: Sorry, I reread the OP's post and the only difference is that I do not have it integrated into my dialer. I do have a contact with my GV number listed so on my dialer it comes up as Googlevoicemail, which is what I listed it as in my contacts.
You're correct. This is something inherently easy, but some have expressed difficulty with setting up on the Note, plus I wanted to share the integration which I really wanted.

I like using att visual VM because I don't like Google voice taking control of my text messaging. From what I remember you could turn it off but it was a pita and every time you flashed a new ROM you had to set it up again

Not sure if it used to be that way, but that's completely not how it works now.
When I flash a new from, I have install google voice app, go through the setup in the app quickly, then change that option in the settings to integrate. That's it.
SMS and such still goes through at&t network.

My bad.
Voicemail integration works great, but there is one issue:
When there is a new voicemail, although there is a notification in the status bar, there is no ringtone alert. I have double checked the notification ringtone selected in Call Settings under Voicemail setup. The phone vibrates when a new voicemail arrives and vibration is enabled, but never rings.
Anyone else facing this issue?
Nice set of instructions. Very easy to follow.
Personally, I've been using AT&T Messages app (free on Play Store). It puts transcribed vm, mms, and sms in one conversation thread. It only works with AT&T however.
Great instructions. I would like to add 1 thing that was not mentioned...very helpful if you would like to access your voice message by holding down the 1 key in the phone dialpad.
How to update the actual voice number in settings?
1. Open your dialer, hit the menu key, then select Settings.
2. Scroll to Other Call Settings and select Voicemail
3. Click on setup and then Voicemail number.
4. Enter new Google Voice access number i.e. +19161234567
5. Click OK and exit settings.
Note: Your Google Voice access number is different than the Google Voice routing number mentioned in this thread that is used to setup the call forwarding.
THANKS!!
Is anyone else having issues with outbound SMS on the latest CM11 Nightly? I have tried the stock Messaging app, Hangouts as default SMS, and 8SMS app. I can receive sms, and send/receive MMS just fine, but sending regular SMS is not working. Just getting the "Message not sent" error. Also, the default Calendar app as well as Google Calendar app isn't working. It can see my google accounts, but it will not display my calendars under the "Calendars to Display" area.
I'm having the same problem..no sms

Are you having the same issue with just the outbound SMS? My inbound sms and in/outbound MMS work just fine. It's weird.

I'm having the same problem. I believe it started with the 12/9 nightly, but updating to 12/10 didn't help. I've tried both Hangouts and the regular Messaging app.
Able to receive fine, but not send.

OK, so here is the fix that worked for me. If you have Voice+ installed, disable it. Outbound SMS will work after that!
yyyyep. that was it. thank you!
Glad it worked for you. That was starting to get on my last nerve!
Ok, i have the exact same problem on latest CM 11. I can recieve just fine sms, but i can't send any. What Voice + are you talking about? I disabled voice dialler but that dint help and i dont think that is not what you have referred to. Thx.

It's the Voice+ app thaqt accompanies the Google Voice app. If you open it you will have the option to disable SMS through your Google account.

"Disable" is grayed out ... i can only FORCE STOP
You have to disable it in the Voice+ app, not disable the app itself. (see below) you can just uninstall the Voice+ app. Either way. Once it is n ot sending SMS through your Google account then the outbound SMS through the default messaging app should work.
Im also having the same issue. I actually uninstalled Voice, and tried the CM wiki but would not accept the sprint #s.
Anyone else?
How did you started the Voice+ app, I can only find it in apps with options to stop thats all and it didn't help. Guys please tell howto start it to disable like picture above?

I'm not sure if it doesn't show up in your app drawer. That's where it is in mine. Do you have both the Google Voice and the Voice+ app installed? If not trying installing the Google Voice app to see if the Voice+ app will show up in your app drawer.

not worked for me, firs I searched for google voice apk over internet, downloaded, installed, disabled google voice like on screenshot but my sms won't send.... disappointed
I am having a similar issue: incoming SMS works, outgoing times out. I had to actually install Google Voice so I could get the Voice+ app icon. I've disabled Google Voice using my google account and told Voice+ to disable... whatever it is that it's offering to do.
Still no outgoing SMS after a reboot. Any more ideas?
