There are ways to switch the download trajectory to my SD card but it still will not work. For whatever reason I can't create a file, move files or do anything with my card. I have tried over ten things and I got it to work one time but I forgot how and I've flashed a lot since then so I was hoping someone might have an effective method we could all benefit from. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Yes download this app called Folder Mount. Run app. Grant super user rights. It will patch your system. Then reboot and you should be all good. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount

ok so I had trouble finding a PG86IMG zip file that would actually give me the option to upgrade. I had two issues that caused this, first the sd card i was trying to use was junk and second is that my phone would only work with one of these downloads. This is the download that worked for me. I hope this helps anyone else that has this same problem. http://d-h.st/ru0ow8ps0i01

Any clues on how to get FolderMount app to work from a Rom / slot ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...evasque.fmount
It seems the source path is wrong as compared to running it from the stock ROM where it finds the given folders/apps.
the source path shows: /storage/emulated/0
Normally this would populate with the given apps/folders desired to select but not working (as in listing anything) when trying from a ROM/slot and I have no clue what the path structure is via booted in a ROM slot in safestrap.

Yea me to, lol, and I've been having a hard time figuring out where to best report/post about this issue to get a response or possible solution. I brought it up once in the "Safestrap" thread in [General] but got no replies. Then later on in that thread, another user was mentioning the use of FolderMount as his solution to free up internal card memory to another Safestrap user so I replied to that posing my question again, however, got no response as to the answer. I know it's a source (path) issue but can't figure it out when booted into a ROM slot.
Thanks for replying though because I myself was starting to think I was losing my mind. :cyclops:

Likely so.
Wish we could get help with this as it would be a lifesaver for those of us using safestrap and wanting to free up space on the internal card since even more pressing for us having to slot our roms on it thus losing more phone storage.. :highfive:

Just curious a general idea of how much space you've saved on internal SD by doing this?
And I doubt though that in my case the program "CoPilot USA" /maps directory can actually be moved into system.. :silly:

Any progress on this?
Is this a safestrap issue or is it a hyperdrive issue with the way HD structures the file system?
Does FM app just need to include/make available the option to choose /sdcard0 rather than emulated? The option to choose your own path in FM does not show this branch?
I am caching over 10gb of slacker music and this may be the deal breaker for using safestrap.
I had to do this. Go to Walmart camera section. Buy yourself a sd card reader
for usb. I bought one that can read 6 different sd cards for 10 bucks. Now just
pop that puppy in the computer and move the files you
need to reflash into your recovery. Now put the sd card back in your
phone and reflash.

I'm a little confused...what's the fix? And why rooted only? You can have cwm or twrp or another custom recovery without being rooted, and your ext sd card slot doesn't require root? Is there supposed to be recovery files linked here or something? Either the op heading is a little misleading, or some details need to be added cause I'm Def a little confused...or is this just a post about sd card readers? Thanks

Let's consider what means 'root' - as you can read in Wkipedia:
Android rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.
Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user.

(Sorry for long quoting).
That means, without root you can only manage user apps and have not access to /system where are placed most interested things...
So aside of question if this method brings something really new, for successfull meddling in system apps root is a must! And fixing things in Android needs such meddling for sure

Yea I'm well aware of what root access is...I develop roms and kernels, themes and other mods ...my question is about the post...was there suppose to be root packs here or is this just literally about an sd card reader...As the the op is about a fix for all androids which does not exist as they all require different root access files and methods, and most devices other than samsung have no external sd... and response and op have almost no relation to one another? What was the point of the op is what I was asking, not for a quote about root? Thanks:silly:

Hello all, I am looking for a little advice. I'll give as much backstory as possible:
I used the cyanogenmod one click installer, everything went well. Since the one click installer put twrp on I went and put clockworkmod on since im more familure with it. Everything fine restarted and phone worked however after I installed (attempted to install facebook messeger) the device rebooted and would not come back on. Sat for 5 mins vibrating over and over and over. Its not completely dead I am able to get to recovery and to download mode and believe I just had a bad download/install. Since i have Clockworkmod on here, I am thinking I could just install the most up to date stable rom available but I have a question:
How do I put the rom zip files on phone if phone wont come on.
Any advice towards this would be appreciated.
First off, where did you find a cyanogenmod one click installer? Possibly that was not meant for the I717.
Don't you have an external micro sd card? Place the card in your computer and copy the ROM zip to it. Put it back in your phone and use it to flash.

Sure thank you for the reply, from beta . download . cyanogenmod . org /install apparently it detects your phones version and does everything for you really, no option to pick your model/version # it auto detects. sorry for spaces it wouldnt let me post link complete.
And I did not know I could put the zips on external SD I had though only internal SD is option for where to put roms

I have done all the things in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632730
Everything "seemed" fine until I tried using WiFi, I actually have to hit the wifi button and then restart my phone for the wifi to actually work, weird...
Besides that, the phone has just been restarting itself and it's happening more and more. And lately, it's wicked slow with just about everything I try to do... its just super glitchy. So I thought that maybe starting from scratch would be the best way to make things right, and then re-root...
But doing this caused many questions while reading through the forum and I'm hoping that someone can help point me in the right direction...
I guess the most important questions are:
Do I wipe the phone and do a clean install, going back to stock first?
If so, because I have followed the instructions in the link above, what are the exact steps so that I don't brick it?
Should I just buy a new phone?
If I did a clean install and then re-root will it run better than it is now?
I have many more questions but I think answering these first will help out a lot...
Thanks to whoever can help me out...

Edit: I installed the new Dodol Launcher and miraculously my WiFi is working again! So I uninstalled the Nova Launcher... I am happy that I can toggle my wifi settings once again =) But I read something extremely upsetting about 2mins ago in regards to the people with unlimited data which I have, and that is, we cannot use third party apps to tether the hotspot if we did the 4.3 update!!!??? Does anyone know if this is true? I thought that I couldn't tether because my phone is somehow screwed up, not because they blocked me from using it...

Thanks lacoursiere18!
After I get back to ramc3 and reunlock do you know how can I stop the OTA from popping up and trying to get me to install it? I want to be able to tether a mobile hotspot, so I need to stay on this one (because of the unlimited data), I think...?
On another note (no pun intended), I was starting the backup process and noticed that the phone has 10.3GB of internal storage, but when I add up all the folders it only amounts to 2.24GB! Does that mean that the OS is taking up 8GB!??? It just seems like a bit much and I can't see anything, there were no hidden folders or system files that I could find either... weird...

Try backing up your data and then reformat it through your phone settings. If that doesn't work you might want to reflash the ROM. Or go into the settings and remount it that way. But if it worked fine before you flashed the ROM I would reflash....

It has to be the something to do with the format of the memory card and the ROM. My twrp recovery reads that all of my stuff is still there. It's just the version of the ROM that doesn't. Any ideas?
