Anybody else experiencing this? I get the " Samsung video player has stopped" message when trying to open the app.
Hmmm..I can play any video file I open, I just can't open the video player app.

What video player are you tryung to open.. my video?
Stock Samsung video player. I've cleared the cache and data within the application and still no dice..I really don't want to have to do a factory reset, not rooted (no titanium backup) and have WAY too much stuff I'd lose.

I never use the stock video player, MX player is the best one out there. Give it a try.
Thanks for the replies guys...I figured it out, a corrupt video file was keeping the app from opening! Duuuuhhhh lol

I flashed ICS build 6, and mx video player doesn't open. It gives the message "unsupported device" and closes.

I really would like to use mx video player. the other video players don't hold the candle to MX video player.
Same issue with ICS 4.0.4 on Galaxy Nexus LTE. Was fine on 4.0.2.

Tell me, did you use Titanium Backup to restore MX Video Player?
I decided to remove Mx Video completely [including codec] and I reinstalled from the market, and it fixed everything! Worth a shot. Tell me if this also works for ya

Good man! I had tried just removing MX's data via Ti, which still didn't work. But upon your comment, I tried uninstalling, then just restoring the app only via Ti and it's good again!

edit: this was before you replied, and before I got it working:
That's good! I emailed the MX Video dev, they asked for a logcat. So then then said it was a cyanogenmod bug.
So I was stuck without a video player [Stock movie app cannot seek large h.264 MP4, it FC (ICS build 6)]. I got pretty tired of that fast, and I seemed to remember other people saying about other apps "reinstall from the market".
But I wonder why you have to uninstall it first?
sorry if this has been posted before i really dont know what im doing buti have ics passion the newest build? and im having a problem with the music player it works for awhile and then it just goes in to "cannot play music at this time" and nothing works trying to get it to work and then i notice i have 5 of the same song and non of them play is there a fix to this or is there one on the way thnx
Yes it has but since this is your first post, we'll let it slide.
Go into Manage Apps->Musicplayer and clear cache and data. Reboot and Bam!! there you go.
Also don't forget for the future that your External_sd is now called EMMC just in case you need to direct something to your extsd card like 3rd party music player, camera,...
jyound New
it didnt work now it only shows one song but it still says it cant play the track you requested! am i the one person that had to get the busted samsung vibrant!

This happens to me as well and this is how I solve it.
First, force exit the music player (I use long-press on the back button).
Second go to manage apps > music player > clear data and clear cache
third restart music player and go to settings and refresh music from google music
Give it a little bit. It take mine about 20 minutes to complete the refresh but I have about 16GB of music on my phone.
This should solve it but for good measure, I reboot into recovery, clear cache, clear dalvik, and fix preferences.
Let me know if this helps.
That EMMC threw me off for the longest time. I bounced off a couple ICS ROM's before I realized the external was mounting fine, lol. They should put that in the OP of ICS ROM's
i tried clearing the data and cache and rebooted
i did everything and nothing i even tried to delete all music off of it and putting it back on and it gives me the same message immediately am i cursed?
is there nothing i can do
ive tried all of the above and still nothing is there anything i can do i really like using my phone as a music player its kinda important to me should i just switch to an iphone?
Have you tried another music player?
Install winamp. If it works, then try reinstaling google music.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
ive done it all
ive tried win amp and something else and when i tried those it just never played the song and there would be like 6 of the same song and non of them would play
Is the file type .mp3? If so it should play just fine.
Can you play the songs from the file browser? Try using "file explorer" or "root explorer", navigate to the folder that contains the music files and see if it plays from there. Sometimes after a fresh flash I need to do this to get music player to find the rest of my music folders.
Goodluck!
p.s. If you break down and buy an iphone send the vibrant to me dogg!
Try PowerAmp. It doesn't rely on the Android music scan or library. This eliminates the problem with tracks appearing multiple times. It also uses its own codecs and supports more formats.

I agree with the post above!
I had the "cannot play music" issue and tried the clearing of caches etc. nothing worked so I downloaded Power Amp and have been happy ever since.
Hey guys, suddenly the apollo music player cant see the music anymore and cant even play anymore a mp3 file using apollo, its not in the list anymore.Any solution?I tried wipe cache/dalvik cache, still nothin,im using CM9 STABLE.Any solution?Dont tell me reinstall the rom cuz i don`t want, except that, any solution?:good:
Try a different music player. I recommend PowerAmp, although it has a 15 day trial after which you have to buy it.
Or if you want rudimentary music playing, there are lots on the Play store that can do the job.

Already got the full version anyway, my problem is apollo itself, it doesnt want to work again, damn with it.

it looks like the system media scanner is not working well, a process which Apollo depends on to find your music file.
PowerAmp works because it has it's own scanner.
You can force rescanning of your media files using some app in the market.
Search for media scanner in the market. Most of those apps are free and will sure get the job done.
Good luck

Hi All,
I've just started having this problem on my SGS3. LG8 Firmware, LH1 Modem. CF-Root 6.4.
Video player opens up ok (shows the animated previews ok) but when i go to play a video the screen goes blank for a second or 2 and i get the dreaded "Unfortunately, Video Player has stopped working". This also happens when i launch the video from the Gallery. It was working ok and i cant pinpoint any app i installed that could have caused this.
I've tried clearing the data for the Video Player application in the Application settings, no joy. The phone still records video fine and plays back videos ok on a PC or using MX Player on the device.
Any suggestions before i do a full wipe and restore?
Cheers

Reboot into CWM Recovery and clear the cache and dalvik cache, then reboot. See if that fixes anything...

Go into Settings / Apps / All Apps / Find video player and clear its data and cache. Most of the time it will solve all the propblems

Sorry, my bad. Didn't read the whole post :banghead:
May be a permission fix might help along wiping the dalvik cache as you have suggested.

Just tried that (cant believe i forgot!) . No dice though
I'll put up with MX Player for now - it works perfectly well and see if a solution presents itself
Only other thing I know to do would be to re-flash the firmware again and see if that helps.

Hi, since 4.3 I have a problem with the album cover at the stock music-app (google play music too). With Poweramp I don't have the problem, but I don't want to buy this app. I usually sync my music with doubleTwist or easyphonesync. Can anyone help me?
Sorry for my english.

Seems completely random. You can use a free music player. Its possible the music you have did not come with a image/cover. Clear music player's data in app manager and also try deleting the music from your device and transfering it again.
Likewise clear data wipe the album cache etc .
Odd that its missing on Google Music something turned off ??

I usually add the covers in iTunes and after that I transfer that to my phone with some little programms (easyphonetunes/easyphonesync/doubletwist). Till 4.3 I never had problems but now some images are not shown. I already wiped and flashed the firmware again and again. I also changed the PC. I copy my music to the external card
I should have mentioned that I use the Galaxy S3 LTE with 4.3. Maybe someone can confirm this.
This is not I9305 Q&A
