broke usb port - Motorola Droid RAZR

i managed to break the usb port while cleaning it. For some days it sorta charged at an angle but now it's dead, not charging from wall charger or even pc. What would you suggest? Is it easy to replace or can i use another port for charging?

Really tough fix...
Unfortunately I as well got a little overzealous in cleaning the micro USB port and broke one of the pins. After tons of research I found that the soldering work to replace the port was so tiny and tedious that it was beyond my beginner soldering skills. I did use a teardown video for instructions on how to get into the phone so I could see for myself. Definitely too advanced for me. I tried to suck a little more life out of the phone by using a hack to charge the battery and even though my multimeter showed the battery was charged, the phone no longer recognized the battery. I found quite a few people who replaced or upgraded their battery with the same problem, as well as someone who paid to have the port replaced still unable to successfully charge the battery. Most places do not work on Motorola because they are not meant to be opened (even though the only real barrier is the double-sided tape) and based on a couple estimates to ship it somewhere for repair it costs less to replace the phone. I bought the same device on eBay because I really loved the phone so much.

[Q] htc charging problem

When i charge my htc and put the cable in the phone i have to lift the charging cable the end bit slightly before it starts charging otherwise it dosent charge
well its pretty obviously gonna be the cable or the socket, got a spare cable or a friend with one? maybe a phone shop will let you try one?
i have a generic cable that has started doing that whilst my normal cable doesn't.
its not the cable my dad has the same phone and it works fine im thinking a bent pin, how much could it cost to fix
very expensive to fix - normaly its a new board, you may be better off buying a battery charger on ebay and just swopping out the batteries when needed, its a rubbish solution but its a warranty fail imho
try giving the socket a detailed clean with a toothbrush, maybe a careful poke with a toothpick (howls of "noooo" from the purists), focus not so much on the pins but build up of dust dirt at the bottom.
helped for some people with usb issues before.

[Q] Phone Not Charging - Draining While Plugged In

Hey, been on these forums for a while, I rarely ask for help (been pretty lucky with the phones), but I have a question.
My phone won't charge. Or rather, it requires a time consuming process of fiddling, unplugging, replugging, and sometimes minor surgery on the USB port with a toothbrush or a tool I've crafted out of a Q-tip. However, after a night of charging (or some interrupted equivalent that results in a charged battery) the battery quickly depletes while still plugged in.
This is most clearly illustrated when yesterday, at 8:45 I rolled over and checked my phone to see if it had been charged. Pleased to see that it had been charged up to 100% I fell back asleep. When I woke up again to go to school at 9:10, my phone was entirely dead. I couldn't even get it to turn on to the point where it showed the I9100 screen. After following the time consuming and frustrating process of fiddling with the USB port and Micro USB charger, I coaxed the phone to show the powered-down charging screen, where I left it to charge to full.
I have been experiencing this over the course of a few weeks and I have tried many chargers, but only one of them will work at all (Interestingly a Motorola cord). Upon inspection of the USB port, nothing seems out of the ordinary, though the 2 prongs on the outside of the USB port male receiver look slightly different than the inside 2, though they difference is symmetrical.
Does anybody have any idea of what could be plaguing my phone? USB or battery? This is my second SII, a replacement one after my original one was tragically lost in a hot tub . Any thoughts would be awesome.
Thanks
Braidonh
If you are using Siyah kernel have you altered the charging current through EsTweeks?
If so then it is possible that the battery / charging circuit has been damaged. Try resetting the values to default (I think its 700mV on AC and misc and 600mV on USB but dont quote me).
Failing that then some hardware trouble shooting (trying a new battery / external battery charger) will help you figure out what is going on.

My signature is quite outdated... Currently just running CM 10.1 with stock everything. Haven't tweaked anything in that capacity... but will try my other battery (if I can find it). Thanks!
I was having this same problem with my HTC vivid. I tried charging with may chargers, the phone claimed it was charging (orange light lit up) but the phones battery was dying while plugged in. Just like you said, the battery depleted rather quickly when plugged in. Since my phone refused to accept any form of charge I bought an external battery charger and some extra batteries.
However, last week I wondered if maybe there was some sort of dust, or small pieces of sand inside the Micro-USB port on my in my phone that were possibly "blocking" the charger from properly charging.
So I bought an air duster and blew air into the USB port of my phone. I guess there must have been something in there because that fixed my issue and now my phone charges!
Now I have 4 batteries for my phone and an external battery charger.
Try it on your phone, see if you have the same luck I had.

Maybe I'm missing something here because you seem to be experienced on this forum and understand about searching first.
Anyway, this sounds like the common USB problem that S2s have. It can be the jack or more typically, the flex cable. You replace the little board. Search for USB in this forum. I just changed mine with one I got on Ebay. Cheap and easy.

[Q] Should I replace my charging port?

I've been having terrible charge times for the last week or two. I don't know if I should trust the Galaxy Current Charging app or not, but assuming it works correctly I can only get 0.6A charging rate in AC mode. I've tried several different combinations of OEM and aftermarket chargers and cables and with all of them the best i can get is the 0.6A. If I go PC mode I get the 0.5A rate.
I've combed through the forums and haven't found anything that seems applicable to my situation. I'm running stock with the latest updates and no root. I just took the phone apart, pulled the charging board and sprayed inside the micro-usb with electronics cleaner. It wasn't dirty but I figure it can't hurt. I then pulled and reconnected every connector I could locate just to make sure everything is tight.
I want to get this resolved, but I am against buying parts for the hell of it. My current charging board looks to be in perfect condition, so I would feel kind of stupid changing it only to have no difference in results.
Anyone have any advice? (besides mentioning cables or chargers. i assure you that has been eliminated from the equation.)

S3 not charging/home made charger.

Hi my s3 is no longer charging. The USB micro port is damaged.
I am not anywhere near my home at the moment and I really need the phone. So I made the most ghetto charger known to man. Which is basically just a stripped USB cable attached to some paperclips acting as springs to charge the battery when it is removed from the phone. This actually works surprisingly well and consistently charges to 88% in a bit over an hour.
However, what I'm really interested in (and I want to stress that this is only a temporary solution while I'm travelling) is what are the two gold pins in the middle, left on the back of the phone for?
I believe they are for attaching an extended battery to the back of the phone.
However I can't find any information on them, nor do I have a multimeter with me.
Can I just apply 4.5 volts to these two pins so I can charge my phone while using it?
Also which is positive and which is negative.
I just need a quick and dirty solution, thanks.

Magnetic chargin problem.

Hello,
One day my tab stopped charging from the magnetic cable.
Whenever i plug-in, i get a blinking light and the battery light on status-bar goes on and off, ultimately not charging. The cable still charges my Z1.
Factory reset didn't help either.
Sometimes it hapens to me too.
My conclusion is that it is a matter of bad contact between tablet and the magnetic connector.
Cleaned up the connector with alcohol. Thankfully it's still under warranty.
Sony RMA the device and gave me a new one. Old one was 16gb , this one is 32gb. Win - win
The problem returns with the new device! Took it around 2 weeks but this tab stopped charging aswell, over the magnetic interface.
Wth is going on.
I never had this issue with the original Sony charging cradle, but I noticed it when charging via cable using a smartphone charger. If the charger does not have at least 250 mA, it goes on and off. Is your magnetic charger an original Sony device?
Well after two weeks the issue reappeared. Dont know if the power is sufficient or not, but then how come it worked with original device AND replacement device.
I know this forum is probably dead a long time ago (years?), but ill take a shot and ask a supplementary question.
The Sony service denies fixing my tablet, citing the cause of problem the non-Sony magnetic cable as the fault.
Ive been using the magnetic cable on my Z1 phone for almost 2 years now with no issues. I dont understand how the cable can **** up the Tablet.
Are they legally valid not to repair my device free of charge (its within the warranty period) ?

I wouldn't have told them I was using a different cable, but yeah they can deny service. Technically, they have to prove that your aftermarket device loosened the port, but I'm sure they've tested it at this point since so many people had the same issue. On the other hand, this also compromises the waterproof ratings.
The issue is the port gets hot and the adhesive weakens. Aftermarket magnetic docks have stronger magnets that yank the charging port right out. Honestly it's a stupid design defect and there should have been more than adhesive, you can try that task with customer service.
You can remove the magnetic charging port and replace the small adhesive strip with a suitable thin high temp doublestick adhesive. I've considered epoxy as well but haven't pulled the trigger. In the mean time, know that the magnet unseats the port on the device and it must be pushed back in.
Hi, my Tab never got a loosed port. When i connect it, it starts blinking red, not charging.
When i drove there to pick up my un-repaired tablet back, along with the cable i gave them, they delivered the cable without a magnet.
After a long verbal fight, denying that the cable was ever send to them in its nominal form (with the magnet), they finally gave in and gave me an official Sony cable (i know , too late, eh?)/.
Truth be told, the Sony magnetic cable is SLIGHTLY different.
For example, i can charge my Z1 phone while wearing a silicon sleeve-case with the an-official magnetic cable, but with the Sony one, there is no clearance.
Also, a very important difference is, the old magnetic cable would convey the charge from any power source (like any type of Ambers charger, for example the usb port, or a less strong (less Ambers) sony charger.
The official magnetic cable, work almost only with the Z2 tablet charger. For example, it wont charge my Z1 over the USB PC port like the old one did.
Can anyone exaplin this, since i just cant see any extra type of filter or dunnowhat present on cable.
