Quick question (water-proofness) - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a quick question about the Z2 water proof-ness. I got the Z2 about three weeks ago and everything is fine except when I run it under water (not submerged) the microphone doesn't work properly for a good 20-30 mins. I seen a video where the microphone was picking up everything fine even under water so I assume my device has a defect? if it has any sort of contact with water the microphone sounds like it's underwater literally even in calls. Has anyone else experienced this issue? thanks :good:

From the owners manual
If the speaker or microphone get wet, their function may be impacted until the water has completely dried. Please note that the drying time can be up to three hours depending on the environment. During this time, you can, however, use other features in the device that do not utilise the speaker or microphone.

[Q] Aria Front (In-Call) Speaker Stopped Working

The in-call speaker on my wife's Aria doesn't consistently work for calls. I've replaced the digitizer on it, but I don't think it's hardware related, because I took the battery out while it was on, and when I started it up again, it worked; and sometimes it works, then doesn't, then does.
What happens is when she calls or is called the speaker just doesn't work. She transfers the sound to the external speaker and it works fine.
She's running the Liberated ROM (not sure what version, sorry; I can find out if needed).
Thanks for any help!
It's probably a loose connection.
Using a wired headset has screwed 2 arias for me now.sometimes I can wiggle the plug before I remove it and get the speaker to work but generally I just turn speakerphone on and turn the volume all the way down to use the ear speaker.fairly common problem.

I'm going to agree on this one. I've taken my Aria apart more times than I probably should have... the first cellphone I've ever repaired on my own, so go figure.
My bet would be that the in-call speaker is still in place, but loose. If you open it up again, the piece you're looking for is maybe a half-inch long rectangular block with two prongs on one side. If the phone is sitting screen up, the prongs should be facing down with the points towards the top of the cell phone. It sits in a little recess above the lcd assembly.
You need to push the piece up so it's snug in it's little recess. Easy peasy.
If you've already done a digitizer replacement, you should have the tools to do a quick check and make sure the speaker is secure in the proper position.
I still think it may be a loose speaker connection, but I also think mtnlion could be right, too.
When the in-call speaker does not work, does the phone show an icon in the notification bar that indicates that a headset is connected?
In any case, I do think it's a hardware issue and not a software issue. But if the OP really wants to be certain, he can install another ROM and see if the same problem occurs.
Yeah, I took the thing apart again, and stretched those prongs a bit to make the speaker fit more snugly; hasn't had the problem since. But I think now the seal isn't quite as tight as it used to be so her screen "squishes". That'll be another day.
Thanks for the thoughts on it.
Adhesive issues
I had that issue too. To fix it, all I had to do was use a space heater (or a blow dryer) on the phone (take the battery, sim card and SD card out first) for about 15 minutes. Then take it and smoosh it underneath something flat and heavy like a book, but make sure to put something down beneath it so the screen doesn't get scratched. Once it cools down, it should be significantly less squishy.

[Q]Can't hear during converstion after fuild droplet

Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the proper section to post this question but since it's Q&A, I thought it won't hurt.
Desctription:
My wife owns Xperia U and our daughter managed to spill couple of drouplets of vitamin C, on the part of the phone right above the "Sony" branding, not sure how you call it; "hearbud" maybe.
And now my wife can hardly hear anyone on the other end of the line during a call...unless she uses loudspeaker or headphones.
Actions taken:
I did wipe the fluid with a tissue, also powered off the phone and wiped that part with ear cleaning stick with alcohol and then dried it with hair dryer and powered the phone but that didn't seem to help.
Question:
I was wondering if anyone had similar case and what would be the recommended action to take at home, before I take it to shop for repair.
Many thanks in advance
Just wait for a day or two
When I happened on my e90 ( yes I used that brick type of phone)
I kept it in sunlight for 2-3 hrs
Bt still had some issue regarding voice quality
It's been few day now, since saturday and still the same problem.
Any other inputs?

Headphone jack problem

Hello!
Half year ago I purchased my Z2 and after using it for a month some problems started happening with the jack plug. When I plugged in any headphones and started listening to music, it would stop if the jack got moved even by a tiny little bit, like if you put it in your pockets or just by rotating it with my hand very slightly.I took it to the local service centre and they replaced it.It was working fine until now and it started doing it again. My phone is fortunately waterproof, never had problem with that.I'll take it to the service again but do you have any idea how to prevent this next and what could cause this?
Thank you
Bad luck bro.No one from here complained about that kind of problem. From my experience the only problem i had with the jack was when i dived the phone in to water. After that the jack was not responsitive for like 2/3 hours.I dont know if there is some kind of protection preventing it from working so that the jack can dry in that time. After the 2/3 hours the thing was that when i plug the earphones in it the same problem like yours occured for like 1/2 hours.Sometimes it detected the earbuds, sometime it didnt. It constantly connected/disconnected them, but only for like half an hour or so,then it went back to normal working perfectly.
I got the same problem, and my girlfriend got it also since two weeks ago. I fixed it (actually not fixed it, but made it much less annoying) on my phone by blowing in my headphone jack. (It has nothing to do with water here, phone hasn't been in contact with water!!)

Wow! I remember trying this before but it never worked, now I got out all the dust with a chopstick and I blowed in it really hard and now it's working perfectly.Don't know how long this is gonna last but thank you!
I have sometimes fibre from jeans stuck in the headphone jack and have to use needle to take it out, otherwise headphones aren't detected at all. I almost had a heart attack that the phone is damaged, but it was just debris from a pocket..
You could also try enabling the Smart Connect - Music on the go such that it would auto play the music tracks that you have to mitigate the problem u are facing. Else, try to get a RMA

That wont solve it at all lol. It has nothing to do with software.
I had such a problems. I messed a bit with a screwdriver and I got it fixed, but DON'T do that if you have warranty. I was scared that I almost broke it forever back then but I somehow fixed it and never touched it again.
However, what you can do is to take a needle and on the bottom there might be some dirt from the pocket. Try to take it out.

It's most likely software issue. the proof is me. I had same problem. When my Z2 can detect the earphone, I tried to reboot it without unplugging the earphone. Guess what, the earphone is undetected after phone reboot. And unplugging / plugging it again did nothing. There's workaround though, my Xiaomi Piston had button on it, so I pressed the button while plugging the earphone (there're a lot of thread about it here). Then it worked, sound came to the earphone, but the buttons didn't worked (when it works normally, the button works). So I think it's most likely have something to do with the software. If it was hardware issue, then once the earphone detected, a reboot would still make it detected.
It never happened so far on the bundled noise cancellation earphone, always detected, spot on.

Xperia Z2 Call microphone (solution)

Hello,
I do not know that this is in the appropriate forum section, but i want to share with you the solution i found related the microphone in-calls problem (the other call party cannot hear what you are talking).
If you unticked the noise suppression button and the problem persists, find a powerful compressed-air pistol and blow in the phone's bottom 3 holes (the ones over the microphone). Many said it's a hardware problem because it disappeared after they had their microphones replaced. But it disappeared only because within the replacement method the dust/water particles or whatever was stuck in there were cleaned.
CAREFUL: try to no blow the air directly into the holes, blow from an angle!
I tested this solution many times because i've noticed that the problem persists especially if I wash my phone often.
Hope it helps.
Yes, mine disappeared after the board was replaced but it is now back again, only took 1 - 2 months.
I will give this a shot, sounds plausible.
Why do you blow from an angle though? does that somehow allow the dust to come out and not get stuck further in?
Edit: I didn't try this and my microphone is working today so I'm kinda of thinking this is not the problem.

Question microphone won't work unless on speaker phone during calls

Hello everyone
Guys I don't know what happened to my pixel 6, no one can hear me on a call only on speakerphone ! I didn't make any changes, the problem happened with all apps, WhatsApp, telegram, phone, Snapchat, recorder ... etc
I've tried some troubleshooting like enable microphone access in privacy, Safe mode, and finally i did a factory reset, but nothing help !
Please help me.
Thanks.
I had this problem and as my Pixel came from the UK and in my country there is no support or guarantee I had to do whatever it took to resolve it. This problem occurs on some Pixel, the microphone deforms and stops working. The solution: Fit your mouth as close as you can to the microphone outlet, try to seal it, and blow hard. I'm serious. I did it once and it started to work a little bit, then I did it a second time and it totally fixed it. I never had that problem again. You can also use compressed air

Doing this using my mouth it won't affect on any components but using compressed air there is a risk, and i did it with mouth i blew hard in charge port and the right slot where the mic existing, but no difference!
