Seriously, what's with these "reporters" trashing devices they've never used?
http://www.slate.com/articles/techn...g_new_trend_toward_enormous_smartphones_.html
All that negative talk about the note while admitting:
"The Note hasn’t been released yet, and I haven’t tried it out"
He gives himself away in the last portion of his biased rant:
But I will point out that the iPhone remains, by far, the best-selling smartphone in the world, and it has never deviated from its original dimensions. It’s time for Apple’s competitors to take a lesson from this success and realize that bigger isn’t necessarily better and that a phone’s utility decreases as its screen inflates.

Right, and when the iPhone finally gets a screen size upgrade all these trolls will talk about how great the new size is, how it doesn't feel bulking with little baby hands, how it's not at all awkward to hold up against your head. Christ, they probably shoot a premature load when they find out their new 8" tablet makes phone calls.
I'm currently an iPhone user. Have been since the day they came out, but that will be changing once FedEx knocks on my door on Friday (tomorrow would be even better). I have always loved my iPhone. It has been nearly perfect for what I've needed it to do except in one specific area: Screen size. Sure, I could have made the jump to a 4.x" Android phone but there weren't any phones of that size that I was interested in, and with the push to 4G/LTE there were even less Android devices I was personally felt were captivating to me. What really pushed my decision to leave the iPhone was the release (or the announcement I should say) of the iPhone 4s. Wow! What a disappointment. I didn't find the move from the 3g to the 3gs to be all that spectacular and I certainly wasn't overly awestruck by Siri. Sure, there was some increase in performance but there were no improvements in the area where I wanted it, the screen size. 5.3' is big. There is no doubt about that, but I have big hands, and as much as I've enjoyed each and every iPhone I've ever owned I have always had a problem fumbling around with the virtual keyboard, even when in landscape. My kids on the other hand, they love their iPhones. They use the crap out of them for what they do, and they love Siri. And you know what, that's fine too...
I can't stand how 99% of the reviews for other phone find need to even mention the iPhone. Review the phone your reviewing and stop swinging from apple's nut sack like Tarzan its pathetic to say the least...

This and BGR's "review" were disappointing. All I got out of them was: "My hands aren't manly enough, give me a phone that won't mess with my manicure"
I'm so frakin sick of apple. I hate the way they do business I hate the way they make phones. And yes I have owned plenty of Apple products. Apple treats the world like poo by trying to hold every patent available and trying to sue and banish anyone that even tries to do something with mobile phones. Frak u apple. Just Frak u. Bow Down in the presence of one of the greatest advancements in the mobile world apple lovers the Galaxy Note!

It's funny how in this piece Farjad writes that "When you go back to a normal phone after using something so large, you wonder what on earth you were thinking." While Engadget says "After a few hours with the Note you'll very quickly become accustomed to the size, and once you have you won't want to go back."
I don't see how he can justify that the utility of a phone diminishes as it's screen size increases. So long as it is pocketable, and increase in screen size will always increase utility. More screen real estate means more room for your fingers, more room for enjoying media, less zooming, and much less eye strain. I absolutely despise anybody that brags about the fackin 'retina display'. At 3.5", holding the phone a foot away or more makes small text unreadable anyways. Yes, our ppi is slightly lower at 285 I believe, but hell, you can at least read text from a foot away. Also, if you move an iphone close enoygh to make the screen appear the same size as the note, or the note far enough away to seem the same size as the iphone, guess what? The note has higher resolution. Bam. Some people are just too stupid and ignorant to accept the fact that the note destroys the need to carry a phone and a tablet. Yes, readability on an iPad is probably easier with the large display, but it's still an extra device that you have to carry, and it really cannot be held comfortably for extended periods of time anyways due to its weight to size ratio. The note will have a great weight to size ratio, making enjoying media for extended periods of time rival that of the lightweight kindles and nooks. Plus it makes calls. It's sad when people are so loyal to a brand that they fail to realize that other brands make superior products. I would take my current infuse or my old cappy over an iPhone any day of the week. And my old cappy is two years old.
The other thing that apple lovers fail to realize is that fragmentation isn't a completely bad thing. It gives you options. You have phones from the size of the HTC aria or xperia mini all the way up to the infuse, galaxy nexus and note, and everywhere in between. You can choose the device that suits your needs best, and aren't locked to a single size, incrementally update phone.
Also, I hate when apple fans bash the rate that new android phones are released. That hate is fackin stupid. It allows you to get the latest and greatest smartphone whenever you are available to upgrade, not just once a year. It also promotes competition that has driven the quality and technology of android devices at an unbelievable pace. Yes, your phone will not be the latest and greatest shortly after you purchase it, but you still have a top of the line phone that is every bit as good, if not better in my opinion, than an iPhone. Fragmentation pushes manufacturers to try new things that will bring great phones to the market much faster than one phone per year. I guarantee that if apple made multiple versions and screen sizes of the iPhone that their market share would not increase. Instead, they would have fewer people per each device, with roughly the same number of people.
People like having choices, and until apple realizes that, iOS will forever be behind android.

Once I got my HTC Advantage 5 years ago, I knew I would never go back to a "normal" phone. I have always loved having a 5" screen. THAT is normal.

Love this comment. Completely agree. It seems nearly impossible yo read a phone review without mention of an iPhone. And why?!!
Constant mention of it is probably the only thing that keeps the iPhone relevant (in any way that it is). Is apple paying all these people!? Jeebus! iPhone is crap compared to even my 2yr old Evo 4g. And I've got ICS on my Evo lol. Would apple ever ALLOW THAT? Hell NO.
Hey, "reviewers", listen carefully,...there is no need to mention iPhone unless you are REVIEWING an iPhone (once a year). Try that, and see what happens to apples market share. I guarantee it would stagnate. You currently are just providing free, unwarranted, press for apple. And looking a fool

While I agree that it is stupid for so many reviewers to talk about the iPhone, that is not "the only thing that keeps the iPhone relevant." Millions of people have and will continue to buy iPhones even if new Android phones are not compared to the iPhone in reviews. The reasons the iPhone is popular are legion, from people who are clueless, to Apple cultists, to people who legitimately prefer the feel of iOS to other mobile options. The clueless people are the only people who might be influenced by lack of iPhone mention in reviews, but I sincerely doubt that many of them have ever read a review of Android device online.
I don't regurgitate blog pieces as a rule, but this was kinda funny...
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-5...have-a-clue-as-to-why-they-need-the-new-ipad/
No, no snotty "iSheep" comment from me. I fully believe that people are the same regardless of whatever toys they buy. But this illustrates the power of marketing in influencing consumer behavior. Heck, people buy bottled water!
Who else but Apple can get people to line up days in advance for its toy launches? The other day, my 6-yr old niece came up to me and said she wants an iPad for her birthday. Shut yo mouth, girl, where did you learn that nasty 4-letter word! 10 Hail Marys for you! And no ice cream either!
Then, thinking about it, if I were to get a tablet for little tyke, an iPad would be tops on the list right now. It's a great learning tool. And $400 one-time payment for an instant babysitter is not bad.
This is what Android has to face up against. It's not just a tech thing. Kudos to Apple marketers.
Then again, I take heart in realizing that all tech co's have their wax-wane cycles. Back in the day, it was the Sony Walkman that can do no wrong. Public tastes can change quickly.
The competition is great. Let's hope Goog will rise up to the challenge. I want my $199 Nexus tab. And my $499 Win8 tab.
Kind of ironic that earlier today I read a thread where you were quoting mods about xda rules/stances/etc yet here you are creating a thread that has NOTHING to do with a prime in the PRIME forums......
And some people have no clue why they'd need a new android tab either... I mean, some ppl buy new things just because they're new. That's not just the case for apple.
>And some people have no clue why they'd need a new android tab either... I mean, some ppl buy new things just because they're new. That's not just the case for apple.
When was the last time you see people get in line for a Dell or HP or anything Android...for days in advance?
For that matter, I'm hard pressed to think of any consumer product that had caused such anticipation, where even the act of waiting in line has become an "experience."
Beanies Babies? No...no lines, IIRC. Can anyone think of an equivalent example?
So, yes, it is really just the case for Apple, at least from my limited recollection.

Justin Beiber?
Totally agree. What apple does best is marketing. Go watch some apple documentary from the 80ies on YouTube. There's one dude talking about the goals of apple and i quote:
"We want to convert people"
Guess they succeeded.
If they didn't do so much in marketing, I don't think they would be like they are now. I've said this before to people, but I just feel like the i"product" owners are brain washed by Apples Marketing techniques. Sure the iPhone and iPad and whatever have "cool" features here and there, but I'm sure if I would get bored of it.
Maybe if i STARTED with an iOS device, I would look at things differently, but since I started with an Android OS device as my real smartphone. I can't really see myself using an iOs device.
Apple people are just ignorant to the better options or f*cked up people.
I asked my co-worker why the skin on her phone had a hole on the back (was to show the Apple logo), and said it was to "advertise". Haha
They really love to show them off like they have something magical.
Anyone seen that samsung commercial where their is a huge lineup in front of a apple store and someone show up with a galaxy s2 and the guy say:
"I'm creative, I can't have a Samsung. "...
I think that is pretty much it.
The irony is that up you can't customize a iphone whitout a jailbreak and even then it is very limited...

I think its mainly just a social standpoint piece. People want others to see them with an Apple device. Some see so many going crazy over Apple products an assume that they are superior products, because they simply don't know better. Others I believe buy them for what they are, easy to use, anyone can figure it out, modern electronic devices.
My younger sister has an iPod touch (never any apps on it, just music. Any mp3 can do that), an iPad 2(very very few apps), an is getting an iPhone when her contract is up. She currently has an Android phone. I looked at it the other day an asked why she had less than 10 apps an only 1 home screen setup on a phone she's had almost 2 years. Get reply was that she isn't in to that kinda stuff. What!!?? LOL. Yet all you can talk about is wanting an iPhone an using your iPad!!!??? If all you care about is texting an placing calls, then get a Jitterbug!!! Its just a social status for her. She is 24 too.
I bought an iPod Touch 4th Gen shortly after they came out. I love having access to Apple's Appstore. They have some great apps an games that I thoroughly enjoy. I would never have an iPhone as my primary phone, Android is so so much better an so much more fun. I do have an iPhone 4 that I got from a friend. I never activated it, just use it as a second iPod basically. I've jailbroke it, customized it some, used the Cydia apps, and I just don't see how so many people love those devices. It is so much slower than my Evo 3D even before root an overclocking. Evo 3D camera sucks, my Evo 4G was better, but its better then the iPhone camera.
Apple devices get boring quick!! I feel they have 3 owner categories: social status buyers, those who don't know better, an those who want a dumbed down an easy to use smart device.....

I agree. I think for majority of iPhone 4 and Ipad owners its more of a social status thing. its like having designer clothing and wearing Jordan sneakers. people go crazy over it just so they show it off and be like hey, look at me. I'm cool too...lol. iPhone and Ipad are really good devices. But not superior like most tend to believe. Apple is just a marketing genius and their app store had a headstart. ill give apple credit for making tablets popular or making them mainstream. they didn't create the market but made it popular instead.
I'd tend to think most apple device owners like to keep up with the Jones's. if you know what i mean.
The thing is though when everyone does something it goes beyond cool and becomes the normal! And something else becomes cool then the cycle repeates!

I think it's interesting how you put this: it's a "great learning tool" and an "instant babysitter." No offense meant anywhere here--I'm a parent, and I know how blissful a few minutes of peace can be.
However, I don't think tablets and smartphones and such are "great learning tools." I think they reinforce the notion that kids have today that learning has to be entertainment. I'm of an age where I remember learning math, vocab, grammar, science, etc., etc., the hard, boring way--and I'm convinced that I learned more and better skills that way. Later in life, today's kids aren't going to be entertained every second in their jobs, which is why I think so many young people today don't perform well.
I'd say that a tablet for a kid makes for a decent toy, and can definitely provide a better form of entertainment than TV. But I would never call it a "great learning tool." And, if I were to get my son a tablet, it would be an Android tablet--at least that way he can learn to explore a device and devise ways to make it fit his needs, even how to dig into something and modify it, like rooting and such (which is why I think a $149 Nexus tablet would be EXCELLENT).

Here's what I think: Apple seems to be eating into their profit margins with the iPad. This will only get worse as lower-priced (and higher-quality) Android tablets continue to hit the market. Since it's such a huge portion of their overall profits that have been driving their stock price, any reduction will have an impact going forward.
I think a $149 (or even $199) Google Nexus tablet of any decent quality and marketed well could be a killer. They WILL eat into Apple's market share, and Apple will be forced to either come out with a lower-priced iPad (thus destroying their place at the top and validating lower-cost products), and/or continue to eat into their margins.
Bottom line: I think we could see Apple's stock price drop considerably over the next few years. And as that happens, they'll stop getting all of the attention from the media. The same cycle of hype driving stock price driving hype driving stock price could reverse pretty quickly. All that depends on Google doing some smart things, of course, and there's absolutely no guarantee that they will.
OP is ultra tier troll. Kudos to you, emote.

Apple made a mistake going with a hi res screen, making a heavier and thicker tablet. On a 9.7" tablet, the better screen is not that noticeable. I saw the thing at the store. basically an overkill. Heavier and thicker is a big step backward. Apple wasted a year and an upgrade. I'm not gonna upgrade my wife's ipad2. I'm so tired of columnists praising the new ipad. I hope there are more article like this on cnet , speaking the truth (that the better screen isn't that different).
Threads like these are sad.

Maybe they just want a tablet which works out of the box? And they think "Well, the $100 doesn't matter to me if I get a better screen and newer iPad". Android is great for people who want to change things on their tablet, but not for people who just want it to work.

Sure, you will not notice the screen is better but will notice it is a full 0,6 mm thicker and 50 grams heavier.. I mean come on, the first minute you will notice it is heavier (not even it is thinker) and then it isn't noticeable anymore.

there's actually more and more of those articles popping up. that people actually can't even tell the difference between the two displays side by side.
plus I did a little test of sorts last night. using opera browser I was looking at the font. I have good vision so it all looks clear to me. then I zoomed it up to the Max. the font still looks very clear and no jagged edges or anything. plus I can't see any pixels or whatever.
IMO, this shot looks clean as a mofo. so for me, the higher screen resolution is a bonus, but by far is needed. I came from an ipad1 resolution to the Prime 1280x800 resolution. now that's a bigger difference in clarity and why I think Prime has a great display itself.

I'm pretty sure it took me a week to find a sprint store with my Evo 3D. Sure, there weren't massive lines but for how hard it was to get one, sure seemed that way.
Also, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 all had massive lines. Apple isn't the only one. I remember seeing on the news that people were getting get shot for a Wii. Don't think I've heard of someone being shot for an iPad/iPhone.

I know I don't have a lot of posts and you guys don't see me around a lot, but I'm on this forum for a couple hours each day and I just see a TON of Apple and iPhone hate. What I don't understand is why you hate them so much. A lot of you categorize ANY iPhone user as a sheep who doesn't know that there's any other phone out there.
I have an iPhone and I can guarantee you that I'm not a sheep. I chose my 4S because the specs are great and I love iOS. I also bought an Evo 3D on ebay because I like Sense also. I use my iPhone as my main phone because it fits me best, I love the apps, and I get updates the day that they are released (ICS was released back in October, thats 7 months ago and we still don't have it on our phones!!!!). Just because I prefer a different phone than you doesn't mean that I follow everyone else. It just means I have a different preference than you.
It annoys me that the majority of users on this forum think that Apple is evil and anyone who owns an iPhone is evil as well. Why can't you accept that people have different preferences on phones and that doesn't make them sheep or stupid fanboys?
I'll probably receive a lot of trolling because of this thread, but I just wanted to get this off my chest.
It really goes both ways; just as you have rabid Apple fans, you have crazy Android fans. There are a lot of really immature people here who don't seem to think before they post. Many of them seem to believe that just because they decided to be different that they are better than people who purchased Apple devices.
I don't really understand why people are so insecure with their choice that they feel the need to belittle others, but they do it. Even mentioning something that iOS has over Android will provoke twenty people saying that once they overclock their phone, tweak everything, and so on, they are able to get the same performance as iOS and that Apple users are homosexuals and etc.
It's like a group of people sitting at their computers waiting for someone to say "Apple" so that they can go on about their petty little vendettas against Apple. It's like a group of children who only want to pick on each other. It's disgusting. They're just hypocrites, and not worth anyone's time.
i completely understand you and i also dont understand why so much hate, but i think it is more between samsung and apple users XD i also like iphone, ios and sense but i dont like small screens, so thats reason why i never even thought about buying and iphone xD but if there will be iphone with bigger screen, ill consider about buying it, but ill keep my evo
I Personally don't like Apple or any of their products. Never owned one and never will, I'm proud to say so.
I will say they are very good at what they do. When the IPhone first came out, it was very impressive.
You are right, it is just a matter of preference. Most people on here like HTC phones. I'm sure if go on IPhone forums and start talking about HTC phones, they will hang you out to dry.
The name calling specifically sheep, has mostly been in jest
The recent hate is justified though. These lawsuits apple has been filing are for the most part frivolous because the wacked patent system in the US. The EVO 4G LTE was delayed because apple claimed it infringed on one of its patents. HTC found a workaround to avoid using the patent but even so one unit per shipment of phones has to be examined by US Customs thus delaying the phone some more.
Important to note that iPhone 5 is being held up or delayed to workaround 5 patents HTC owns.
Both companies have been suing each other. However one has been a royal douche. One of the companies says the other blatantly copied the former while in fact the former ripped off features from the latter in its last major OS update. If you haven't noticed, the former is Apple and the latter is HTC. It's appalling because Apple is making more money than ever and can't be happy with that.
For me, I say screw the patent system and let all the companies out innovate each other, that way the consumer wins.

i refer to the sheep as those who buy it for posing around with....then when they see another phone they start moaning that the iphone can't do this and that and the other. And the fact that people complain about the monthly prices after buying them and signing the extortionate contract.
Also i don't like the fact that how some iphone users seem to belittle others by very slyly implying their phone's better by doing this that and what have you, and if you argue...it doesn't go down well with them.

I like what they've done, its pretty much bought that section of the market along with the rest of the competition to the mainstream. the phone specs right now are good...the original bunch of iphones not having 3g and multi-tasking? wtf to that decision....but anyways they learnt. I myself am thinking about getting an ipad 2 soon (depends on a few things....not $) because it is way ahead of anything for now.
the lawsuits don't help, i dont care whether its for stopping products or the conspiracy of giving them publicity. they need to stop because its a bad PR for anyone, including the consumer.

Welcome to XDA, can't even refer people here because it's a bunch of 2 year old out trolling the other.
On a OP note. Apple has to be doing something right. They customer service rates are so much higher. I loved my iPhone. Yes we don't have ics yet but who cares. The ONLY beef I have with my current setup is sprint. I know not HTC's fault. I can not stand having to download a video to watch it because it's faster to do that then stream one. All in all HTC ftw on AT&T network? Lolz

I own an iPhone and iPod. Daily devices have always been Android phones though. It's all preference. I need the Open Source nature of Android.
Some people are better suited for an ios device.
Being called a sheep isn't technically inaccurate as a majority of ios users don't believe in much else besides the device they have.
I don't agree with fanboyism though, It's annoying and immature, but it'll always continue.

Apple are marketing geniuses. I don't get into the fanboy wars between either OS, but my problem with Apple is the way they lock down their OS & the choice of apps, or rather I say users have no free choice of apps cuz they only get what Apple feels is good for them. Now they have amazing hardware, but the cost for it isn't worth it IMO since they're paying way less for the parts & production of their products.

I completely agree, unfortunately the stuck up people from either side are the ones who let themselves be heard. I see Apple fans also hate on Android a lot and I really don't see why everyone can't accept that other phones and OS's are really cool.

It's definitely worse between Apple and Samsung, but I still see stuff between HTC guys and Apple guys. I can kinda see the Samsung thing because they have actually taken ideas from Apple, but HTC? I think Apple and HTC are the best two phone companies out there. The screen doesn't really bother me, but I would like a bigger one.

This video pretty much sums up the attitude of a lot (not ALL) of Apple users. This is why I will never buy an Apple product. At first, yeah, the iPhone was cool. Now there are much better devices (technically speaking) that do much more, yet "Oh my God look mommy it's an iPhone!" is still heard everywhere as if it's some sort of magical device. I suppose my hatred for Apple products stems from irritation from ignorant consumers who simply get on my nerves.
The reason why there are people who have issues with Apple is simple: Apple has become an icon of Corporate World. Yes, corporations are evil and after Steve Jobs has resigned from Apple even more people have turned against Apple. By buying an iPhone you support the wealth-culture that thrives on social inequalities created and sustained by global corporations. There is nothing wrong about hate towards corporations and those who support them. It is only natural.
In fact Android (while being not so different from Apple in its core) still represents all those have-nots who deserve just as much as their wealthy counterparts.
As for homosexuals and iPhones, well...this is obvious: they have become the driving force of the trend-over-intelligence kind of tendency that have only added more crap to already TV-brainwashed minds of the general North American population. Another thing homosexuals should have never done was occupying the entire artistic and design-related industries and forcing all the talented straight folks out of the market to completely eradicate even the possibility of having a healthy competition that can damage their reputation as the only worthy artists on the planet.
Now the iPhone owners are called sheep because of that very trend-over-intelligence choice the majority of them have made when they chose to buy iPhone. Did you notice that all these crappy musicians and graphic artists turn to Apple computers not because of the fact that those are the most optimized for the industry tools, but simply because they are the most expensive ones? Just like the worst musicians always own the most expensive instruments that money can buy.

I personally don't like the iphone because 1. The screen is tiny 2. They want to charge you for every and anything (including help)smh 3. It's very easy to break and 4. All roads lead to apples wallet, they limit you to only the apps and music they want you to have! I do believe apple is evil and don't care about there consumers at all. Yeah ics isn't here yet but android phones still have better costumer assistance. I bought a g5 apple for thousands of dollars just to find out its incompatible with lots of things including websites like netflix for example and can't even be updated therefor I have to spend a few more thousand for a new one... **** apple!

I have both Android and IPS devicrs(phone, iPod & ipad). Both have pluses and minuses. The frivalous lawsuits by all companies is getting annoying.
Pluses to Android is the openness. I use my phone for work and personal. I want to be able to have the option to block calls with a white list and also block calls permanently. I jailbroke my iPhone but it had several app issues. Once I returned to stack all issues went away.
Minuses for Android is background bugs that lead to severe battery drains. Some of the apps on Android are not as nice as iOS.
Pluses for iPhones are accessory like extended life batteries as a case and battery as one

This display has 44 percent more color saturation than the iPhone 4S display. “This is the most acfurate display in the industry,” Schiller says. It has integrated touch in the display, which makes it 30 percent thinner. Now, it has ultrafast wireless technology too. “We’ve built in GPRS, Edge, EV-DO, HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSDPA, and yes LTE,” Schiller says

All of Apple’s software is being updated to take advantage of this display: Keynote, Pages, Numbers. iLife software too like GarageBand and iMovie and iPhoto.Apps run at the same size as on previous iPhones, with black borders above and below if necessary, if they aren’t optimized for this larger display yet.
10:16
“This display is simply amazing,” says Schiller. They’ve added a fifth row of icons to the home screen — the better for those hundreds of apps you’ve downloaded. The calendar shows more events, email shows more emails, Schiller demonstrates all this with a few slides.

The iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest phone Apple has ever made: 7.6 mm thin, 18 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S and the world’s thinnest smartphone. Its 112 grams, 20 percent lighter than the iPhone 4S. It has a 326 PPI Retina display. The new screen on iPhone 5 is 4 inches, 1136 by 640 pixels with a 16 x 9 aspect ratio. “A phone should feel great in your hand,” Schiller says.

First, Apple has been releasing new phones every year, not 6 months.
And every single industry does it. Not just cell phones. Computers, tablets, cameras, cars... Everything. It is consumer's choice to decide when to spend.
Carriers carry a multitude of phones. They can't train their employees to fix everything.
At least iPhones have Apple stores to fix them. If my Note broke, I have to find a service center which is alot more inconvenient. If anything, Apple has this the easiest for their users.

you cant argue these facts...I would MUCH rather take my phone back to a manufactures "store", than the 3rd party service centers or send back to the factory option that we are saddled with as Android users..For this, I give Apple kudos for..
And, I agree with an earlier poster, about IBones having their "place" in society for the non techie hordes...You dont sell all those phones that Apple does, unless there is a really strong demand from SOMEONE for them..
Apple ....uh....(sorry, I threw up in my mouth there for a second )...
I guess what gets my goat ...is the level of high mindedness that apple users often have toward the android community in general.
Several people I work with are absolute azzhats about it.
They presume that they hold the greatest level of technology ever created in the palm of their hand, and scoff at any android device.
When in truth, the device is a few years behind the latest device in terms of software advances, and hardware as well.
I guess it might be the denial factor, or maybe the lack of freedom to do anything with the device other than turn it on or off and put a case on it.
Regardless...the latest device is still the same as it always was.
An iPhone, joined at the hip to it's Creator, and ever so badly needing it's users to understand that truth.
Folks can buy and use what they like, but I would "Never " buy a device that had to answer to anyone but me ....g

i notice biggest disagreement with all current reviews is the battery, some say its charge lasts too short, some say its about right right and some praise it. I suspect results will also differ based on CPU.

What's with all the reviews saying this phone is a tough sell or hard to recommend? It seriously must be from people who don't use the S-pen often. It's what makes this phone phenomenal. It's not a toss in. It's irreplaceable.
They also seem to say you shouldn't need to upgrade from your S8+... No kidding, this isn't for those people (generally).

It's basically the price. $900+ is new territory for a non-niche smartphone that reviewers are simply having a difficult time recommending people spend that much money without some mind blowing feature like a front fingerprint sensor embedded onto the screen or the first next gen processor of the year or a battery that gives 5000 mAH while remaining the same size or free wireless earbuds or a phone that will make you scrambled eggs and toast in the morning. Unfortunately, when the next iPhone rolls around for $1000+, those same reviewers will sing praises because it has new mind-blowing features like a bezel-less screen and all-glass construction and wireless charging.

If the differences between the S8+ and the Note 8 were the same as the differences between "Current iPhone" and "Upcoming iPhone", the tech media would call it "game changing" and "revolutionary". If an Android handset does try to do something different, like the secondary screen on the V10, the tech media calls it a gimmick. Tech journos would lick the sweat off of Tim Cooks balls and tell everyone it was a lovely unwooded Chardonnay with hints of citrus fruit.

You are banging your head against a brick wall.
So few people understand the purpose of the Note range. They compare the Note 8 with the SGS8+ etc etc. Makes me wonder how such people can call themselves technical reviewers? I have seen this with EVERY Note released.
So few seem to understand the Note is not for everyone, it fills a clearly defined niche. There is the Galaxy 8 RANGE of mobiles and they are non comparable. The 8 is aimed at the majority who desire a top flag ship mobile. The 8+ is for those who want extra size and what we now call a 'phablet'. The Note 8 is exactly what it says, its mobile aimed at those who USE the bloody S-pen!
If you only new how puzzled I get when I read a post here or see a review where the poster says he has bought the Note but never uses the S-pen and then goes on to criticise the device?? I simply dont get it.
WHO WHO WHO goes to buy a car, lets say a Merc' E series, and compares the coupe with the saloon and the cabriolet? Who are these people? Three different cars to suit three different customers, with three different needs.
Like I have written previously, it's a shame the Note 8 has a greater IQ than 'some' of its critics.

My comment is NOT aimed at you.
What qualifies a Youtube poster as "Professional" ? If one means salaried that's fine. I fear when most people read the term 'professional' they automatically think of a person with professional training and qualifications like an engineer etc.
In reality I suspect the vast majority of those who write or post review-clips are enthusiast's like us or just amateur's at best trying to earn a living?
A real professional review, and they are rare, will not pass an opinion only lay down the scientific facts for us to make our own conclusion, they are objective.
Far too often such 'so called reviews' are highly subjective and some are even based on financial rewards thus making them totally subjective and biased.
The problem is today anyone of us can open a Youtube account and post what clips we like. Must be very difficult for the novice buyer in today's market not knowing what to read-view or what is creditable and non creditable.
I am rather thankful I have been purchasing such devices since the late 1980's so have some knowledge and experience of what to look for. Its a mine field.

I agree many reviews are mainly subjective.
Few reviewers understand note taking and the cognitive benefits of writing information down as opposed to typing. This is why the reMarkable product has had so much backing from early adopters as there are few good tablet based pen solutions. The reviews I linked to are where there is an online tech magazine or blog that also has a YouTube channel. This is why I entitled it as "professional" as there are many reviewers that don't the time or resources to undertake a quality review. Also if you read the comment section for the YouTube reviews you'll see people do point out that not many reviewers understand the utility of the S Pen.

However.............

Thanks for the post, must have taken you some time to arrange this for us. :good:
My comment is NOT aimed at you.
What qualifies a Youtube poster as "Professional" ? If one means salaried that's fine. I fear when most people read the term 'professional' they automatically think of a person with professional training and qualifications like an engineer etc.
In reality I suspect the vast majority of those who write or post review-clips are enthusiast's like us or just amateur's at best trying to earn a living?

Flossy Carter is where it's at. He knows and understands the Note series. Every watched his 50 minute review on this phone? It's amazing. And hilarious.
