[idea] Circle keyboard - Wear OS Software and Hacking General

Hello guys. I think on small screens input symbols is not too easy (sorry I have no devices, I could be wrong) and my idea is input by touch and move strip and stop for input character. I've never code for android and wear, with my bad self-organization I can't implement this. But maybe anybody finds this feature useful for small devices, I'm happy to help than I can.

I think touch and drag (similar a swype) keyboard on ~1.5 inch (even on square display) is better classic small keys for big fingers

I think minuum is working on this as well

I think the most effective way to "type" on the watch would be using the Palm OS "graffiti" method. It's actually pretty easy to learn and it is the most effective typing I've used in a small space where a keyboard isn't available.

I have an idea for a keyboard and i would like someone who knows how to code to guide me, because i don't know anything.
I'm even going to use the keyboard as a project which could win me a scholarship (a small one but later such accomplishments will help me get in college)
Everything will have to be open source.
Please if someone is interested PM me for details on the idea.

Sorry for the intrusion but since this is an Idea thread, I though it would be ok to contribute creatively.
Bring back the old GSMera pecker style of typing and we'll be golden. Do it by splitting the screen in 9 segments, without displaying any overlay of the keys (ie GhostType (r) so that you can see the interface 'behind' the keyboard). Swipe left to delete character, right to insert space, down to end typing, up for a non transparent 'symbols entry face'.

Funny logo with Obama and Alcatel One touch inspiration ^^

good project but hope the stretch goal will reached because minuum is dead I think no updates anymore since month...

i remember alpha testing the touchone keyboard and so many people on the Moto360 (Gen1) Forum bashed them about why do we need a keyboard on AW, i stood there defending the idea, when they mentioned the Kickstarter i was one of the 1st in line to back them, now fast forward a few months later i am a beta tester for the app and i have to say it is the best keyboard to touch AW. it has a few kinks yea, typing is much faster since it uses a form of T9 predictionyou can also typ letter by letter(Which is a little slow still faster then Minuum IMO) but its still in Beta but compared to Minuum and Microsoft Analog, this keyboard wins hands down. if i had to put them in order of usefulness, easy of use and typing quickness it would definitely be 1.Onetouch SMS+Keyboard, 2. Microsoft Analong 3.Minuum

Pretty cool. One thing to note is that you cannot jump and move at the same time on resistive touch screens. If you are the one developing this, you have more than enough room to create a faux mutli-touch interface by creating invisible buttons halfway between the two buttons you want them to reference. This will allow you to press down on two spots and get the desired effect. This is especially easy for your interface seeing as all the buttons are the same size and shape. Though you might have to make them just slightly smaller to avoid an overlap between the right arrow and the "left+jump" buttons.
Other than that, it's coming along quite nice. Obviously the death thing needs to be fixed... all that happened when I hit a goomba was I disappeared and still could hear myself jumping. But other than that, very cool.

Yes I know that touchscreens on TouchPro2 and like phones dont support multi-touch well. I hope that future phones and ROMs support it better. Yes it took me a couple of weeks to make all the levels and the final boss fight with bowser. After all the hard work the game came off just the way I wanted it.
Too Tough
Ok so you played the game and at some points its pretty tough. Here some tips and tricks to help you out.
1) When you jump but just miss but hit the side of a plateform press forward button and mario can climb up the side of the plateform.
2)Some coins in the game are unreachable, its a trap so dont try to collect every coin in every stage.
3) When you fight final boss bowser stay on left side of screen. You see a platform in the middle of screen moving up and down. You faintly see a turtle in the background and when the moving platform hits the turtle a shell appears. Hit the turtle shell and it hit boswer. Boswer has about 20 hit points so it will be a long fight.
4)When you die its better to use stylus to press start to restart level.
Enjoy the game and have fun if you need any help tell me here or PM me.

He's just agreeing with me that this game should implement a false multi-touch for single contact resistive touchscreens.
The way non-multitouch resistive touch screens work, like you would find on most HTC phones, is that when the screen is contacted at multiple points, the true contact point is read at the center of the two points. That is to say if I were to contact the screen at pixel (4,60) and then contact it at the same time at (210,180)... the contact point would be registered at (103, 120). With that in mind, it is possible to implement an interface such that the intermediate contact points represent the combination of two buttons pressed on either side of it.

[Q] Note-taking app

Hey guys,
I've been searching the android market and app-brain for a good note-taking app. I can't find one, so I've started writing one.
The basic problem with most of the ones on the market is that they all are just text input apps.
That makes a lot of sense on a cell-phone, but with the nook an app that was more like a notebook would be much better.
Before I start anymore work on it, though, I thought I would ask if anyone had found a great one. Thanks ahead of time!
there are a few ok options, but definitely not great or notebook like. if you have a good concept, continue it, as none really do the job well enough yet
i use blackink, jorte, and ive been working with a few notepad options, but none are nearly 10/10 quality. 6-7 at best
Check out Springpad in the market. I like it.
I haven't found a good one either. At CES I believe Asus was showing off a note taking app for their android tablet that sounded interesting. Not sure what they called it though. Maybe a search for that could yield some good ideas.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
A decent note taking app would convince me to pick up a stylus. I write music and poetry and Evernote is great for keeping track of ideas before I lose them, but it is lacking a stylus option. It would be a good template as far as interface goes.
Looking forward to see what you come up with. =)
I'd love to see something more notebook-like, ruled (choice of either horizontal lines or grid), the ability to "flip" pages back and forward... it would be nice to be able to tear-out a "sheet" as well (either discard it, or use it to start a "new" notebook), as well as place "tabs" or "flags" on certain pages.
Anyway, sorry to throw all that out there, just thinking out loud about some of the things I think would nice features. =)
Awesome! I have a HTC branded Dagi coming in this weekend from Amazon and will start fine-tuning the application. I have a griffin stylus, but it's total junk for drawing/writing.
The current version only works in 2.2, but I'll post up the apk when it's at a testing point.
My focus right now is (at least for the first beta) a quick to write app, and a simple UI.
Very cool! =)
If you want input or suggestions, I'd be happy to help.
Would love to see something like this. Looking forward to checking out your first effort. Thanks!
PS - are you planning to allow keyboard input as well, or stylus only?
I'm pretty happy with ColorNote. It is simple and you can put "stickies" on your home screen. It has a plain text notes or checklists.
I use InkPad and share the notes to my Evernote account that way they are all accessible via any device anytime.
I love Genial Writing, it's just like a virtual notebook and compensates for lack of stylus by allowing you to write and then press a button that shrinks your writing and fits it in a line of the notebook. It's hard to explain but using my finger I can make handwritten notes that fit quite a bit of information on one page. Check below for a picture/description.
Linky
can you point me to an apk download for inkpad? thanks
Hey guys,
After doing some testing I think my Nook Color's settings are off. I run the app and the stylus don't maintain a constant "stream" of points. The result is that it feels like your writing with a pen that is almost out of ink.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I have two different stylus' and both react in a similar way (though the Dagi has better performance)
Gtasks.
Love this app.
I know that some people find flashers disgusting, but i cant help myself.
This app brings back all my notes just by installing and allow it to sync with google.
I have been looking for an app like this for awhile so if you are able to make one I would definitely be willing to beta test and pay for it if you decide to not make it freeware.
Awesome! I'm still working on it. The problem I'm currently dealing with is the touch-screen on the nook color isn't that great. Even when using a stylus (with no screen protector) the continuous drag event is broken up a lot. This makes it feel like your "pen" is running out of ink all the time.
I doubt stylus input will work on the nook. I've tried a few, and they all work like a dream on my iPhone and the iPads at the store, but they are frustrating and inconsistent on the Nook Color.

That sucks.
OP, Perhaps your app can add a "hold" button on the app that connects all points drawn in a complete line.. This will "connect the dots" so to speak instead of the jagged lines your getting..
I wonder if any of the sketching apps behave in this similar manner? Have you tried SBM or other sketching apps to see if this problem translates to all apps?

Honeycomb "upgrade" is a downgrade

I have not updated my Evo View Tablet to Honeycomb for the unacceptable flaws in its' design. I can't believe more people are not in uproar about this.
I used a View Tablet with the Honeycomb update, and it has some major design flaws, here they are:
-The top 25% of the screen can not be used to place widgets and/or apps
-The white soft-key buttons are disabled (how does it make sense to render a piece of hardware on the device useless? )
-The menu icon on the bottom appears while in certain situations and migrates to the top in other situations
-The notification pull down (or pull up rather) menu is scattered and sloppy.
-The main settings window has a glaring white background , where as on all other android software , it has always been a black background.
the GO-launcher is necessary in order to actually utilize the entire screen, and to ofcoarse customize the grid sizes , icon sizes, resize widgets, but the bottom on-screen buttons end up creating a sort of glitch at the bottom of the screen.

you can't downgrade , unless you "root" the thing.
Im sorry, i was not aware there was "gb vs hc" threads, i haven't found any on this forum.
You know..there are a few things I want from my tablet not currently offered..
Once the pen functionality gets imported into an ICS rom, no one is even going to care about HC or Gb anyway..
And if they release the code for that we will be able to perfect the fujitsu cheapo version.. too...
Hm.. I really need to set up my comp to contribute to a project. x.x
see , you guys are adept at installing custom roms and "rooting" but for those of that just want to stick with factory default software, we're at mercy to these ridiculous flaws . Luckily , Gingerbread works perfectly , especially in conjunction with GOLauncherEx

While there are some valid points to your criticisms, it's important to recognize that the blame for some of these items doesn't rest with Honeycomb. Where the menu icon appears is dictated within the app itself. It's true that the placement is inconsistent but I think that stems from some apps being optimized for phones (when it's on the bottom) and some being optimized for tablets (when it's on the top right).
While it may be sub-optimal to turn of the soft keys, it's still better than if they had been actual physical buttons, and it was HTC's decision in the first place to release a tablet that doesn't run the tablet OS. I feel that they actually did a decent job dealing with the issue, as I don't notice the soft keys now that they're off. Would I turn them back on, given the option? Maybe - I don't know yet. Would the menu button work consistently in all apps? I don't know that either.
I think some of the issues you have deal with HTC Sense, especially within the Settings. I too hate how the settings look, but the stock Honeycomb Settings (and dialog boxes, etc) are much less offensive.

I too am hoping ICS becomes reality on the Flyer/View, but in all fairness it's not going to drastically change the user experience compared to HC. The HC-specific complaints here apply to ICS too.

Every device has flaws that most people would love to change from the iphone to android to all the windows mobile phones.

Not trying to be mean, but if a device doesn't do what you want and your not willing to do something about it.. then it is hard to take your complaints entirely seriously..
A lot of people here put forth a lot of time and energy fixing the things your complaining about. When your unwilling to read and use their solutions and you complain anyway.. your complaints are likely to be met with some degree of hostility.
The culture of XDA isn't "epinions" or "newegg reviews" it is one of learning, teaching and hands on experience.
I respect the fact that people want different things in their devices, and even request things here.. But, when your not requesting, your not asking if something is possible to work on it yourself.. Your essentially saying "WAH i don't want to put forth the effort to fix something that is possible to be fixed, but I want you guys to listen to me complain anyway!"..
I have learned the hard way that within the more nerdy subculture of modding there is a tendency of "Read, learn, or go find someone who cares".

TIL - interesting. The thing I keep running into, mentally, with ICS is that it still has two distinct interfaces, one for phones and the other for tablets. While the UI is now more consistent, phone ICS retains the top status bar like GB while tablet ICS is not too different from HC.
Won't any ICS build that ends up on the Flyer/View be tablet-based? If so, it seems that the status bar would always be on the bottom, buttons or not. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

One of the major points of ICS is to provide flexibility to all needed hardware.
Even if tablet based, they will probably account for the buttons.
ICS is essentially HC with a few new features thrown in and the ability to run on smaller screens. They even share most of the same source code. Since ICS is built on top of HC, don't expect drastic changes. Most of what people whine about can already be easily gotten on rooted ROMs and it will continue to be that way with ICS. Rooting gives you the opportunity to have it your way to a greater extent. But you can't have it your way all the way, that only happens at Burger King.
Considering HTC designed tablet HW for the outdated GB OS, its not that bad. Yeah the hard buttons are now a relic of the late 90s, but the Flyer still screams and look pretty darn good with HC.
And since we are on a rant thread. Why the @%## can't we have a thread about important stuff like this from the CES show?

The View with Honeycomb is a true small tablet. With GB it's really a big phone. Some people want a tablet, some want a phone. Your call on what you want. I love HC and would love even more to see ICS. With cypher-rom and dolphin browser, my tablet pulls up web pages just as fast as my girlfriend's transformer prime, which is shocking to me at least. Can't wait till we get an OC kernel for honeycomb on the view.

If you read around this forum just a little, you would know the these issues have been discussed ad nauseum.
I disagree that HC is a downgrade. Yes there are downsides (and you pointed most of them out, but left off a couple of others such as the reduction in the number of home screens) but there are two major upsides that seal the deal for me:
1) The ability to use the pen in all apps is huge. I've got drawing programs that were simply begging for pen input in GB that suddenly fulfil their full potential in HC. Also, if you ever RDP to a windows worstation, having the pen available for choosing tiny menu items is a vast improvement over having to use your big fat finger.
2) Honeycomb fixes the bug in Gingerbread in which when placed in landscape mode and paired to a bluetooth keyboard the arrow keys do not map correctly. In Honecomb they do, and given the amount of writing I do on my Flyer this, too, is massive.

That is the number 2 reason I want ICS... Number one is full HW acceleration makes a single core tab feel very dual core (gf has a nexus s with cm9, the difference was astonishing). Actually... Number 2 is the task switching is very webos

The only two negatives I have since updating are the battery seems to drain faster and I miss the hardware buttons. Other than that I think HoneyComb is better. The internet no longer crashes, use to crash at least twice a day with Gingerbread. Also like being able to better organize the icons on the home screen.

Looking for "Natural Display Calculator" on Android 2.3.7 CM

Hey app devs out there,
I just looked for a simple but powerfull calculator via the android market. Found nothing but the "old school" ones.
Yeah, there are tons of calculators out there, one has more abilities than the other. But thats not what I am looking for!
I am WORKING with my windows7 laptop, word2010 and microsoft's math4. Give it a try and you will see why I love this combination that damn much!
I am studying machanical engineering, so I need some features more than others, but the biggest thing is it must be as written on paper, that is what word2010+math4 gives me!
I write the fractions just as I would write them on paper, right after x^4/y^2 and space it is shown to me not in that freaky oldschool style, like excel still does.
So, why not have such an calculator on android? That would give many high mathematic working people a chance to get rid of windows, get an tablet (for me still an GalaxyAce) with android and a powerfull but easy to handle calculator.
As I have no clue about programming, it would take me months just to get the first lines, but this job realy needs enthusiasts to get it the way I mind it.
So, if any of you here knows where to place this request, please help me out. There must be sitting some super brains waiting for another challange, this would be a huge one!

I also came across the same need. It is pretty strange that on google play there is no such scientific calculator app available. I mean, the "natural display" feature would really be usefull, particulary on big screen devices. Anyone knows if such an app has been developer since DaBigFreak opened this thread?

We thought the same, so we developed an app that does exactly this! Let me if you have any feedback. You can check it out here:

Hi! and thank you for taking the time of answering my previous post.
I am really glad that your team developed an android app with natural display capabilities. I am going to give it a try for sure :good::good:

Hahahaha I definitely didn't expect to get a response from a 3 year old thread That's great to hear. You guys were actually part of the reason why we decided to develop this app - I ran into the same problem and was amazed at how there were zero natural display scientific calculators on the store, while the Apple Store had tons. We're continually updating the app at the moment and just added programmable constants! If you could leave a review that would mean a lot to me :fingers-crossed:

Cool! I am actually having problemas with my smartphone so i had only the time for quicky trying the app. Now i have resetted it but still it's not ok. I am currently looking for a new smartphone. As soon as i get the new phone, root it i will install your app and review it! :good:
Wow, its a realy nice working calculator, but I definitly need integrals and matrizes. So if you could add this, it will be realy usefull at university

Thanks! We'll add that to the list of features to be implemented. At the moment we're working on adding history and favourites which is turning out to pretty painful. If you could leave a rating or review in the store, we'd be so grateful!

Before that, I'd love to see integrals, sum and matrizes. Then you can essentially do anything you want or that could be done.
Next big thing would be to make variables calculating available. Not storing a certain number as A, B, or C, but let the calculator solve an non-number equation to a specific variable.
Right behind that, setting up variables with a value, so you can define A:=5.0, B:=2*A and the equation only has A and B, the calculator gives the results.

All the things you've asked for are being worked on at the moment, but understandably it will be months before they're actually implemented. At the moment we really need traction to increase the visibility of our app, otherwise there's really no incentive for us to continue developing if it's going to be buried underneath thousands of crappy calculator apps on the Play Store That's why reviews and ratings are so important to us. We do take into account the many features that our users request, they'll all sitting in a document, slowly being ticked off one by one

Writing recognition for the Scribe Pen

Seems like there are a few hand writing recognition apps out there that would benefit from the Scribe, most of them are paid for - can anyone who has used them share their experience.
I owned a Palm organiser SO many years ago now, so I was really happy to find the Graffiti "hand writing" recognition available. It works great and quicker than the keyboard, except when you turn landscape with the tablet and the input area shrinks to a thin bar ... mailed developers to no avail, real shame, maybe if we ever get ICS and pen working it'll work ! For those who don't know Graffiti uses a special letter system, so instead of the device learning your writing, you need to learn the "right" way to write, but its quick to learn and once you learn you never forget.
Graffiti Letter System At Wikipedia
Anyone else who wants this fixed, please contact the developers !
I use and really like writepad but its expensive
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using Tapatalk 2
I downloaded 24 hour trial from their website oh My god I can't use this just- chen Ith'.rk Isol - if rigll-i wr:fc anolhe word Ard if nesses up
I switched to gnaffiti now not many errors, wow writepad was weird- kept changing the letters it had already recognised when I wrote another letter . . . not buying that! Hxw do yow cope, this isnt perfect but quick and only odd letter wrong.
