Greetings All!
XDA search is broken at the moment. Suggesting that I use Google but that's decidedly hit-or-miss.
New LG G3, can't send SMS messages, and getting almost no bars at home when my old S3 is still getting two or three bars.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers, Henri

In case you have not tried, airplane mode cycle or restart phone help at all?
Also I assume you don't have Wi-Fi calling on? Mine shuts off cell service when I have a good Wi-Fi connection too save battery.

Well, I didn't have Wi-Fi calling on; but removing the battery and replacing it did the trick for the SMS issue. Still disappointed with the reception in my house even though I do have Google Voice and VOIP so any incoming and outgoing calls aren't usually placed or taken via the mobile phone anyway.
So far have a love/hate relationship with the phone. I'll be testing the heck out of it over the next couple of days or so.
Another option to try. Go to Settings> More>mobile networks and set it to CDMA. Global seems to give a lot of people issues.
If you have LTE, you'll need to set that one.
Something else to consider...
Have you tried to update the PRL for your G3?
Settings -> General -> System Updates -> Update PRL
After the PRL has been updated, reboot your phone and report if there has been any improvement with reception.

hey guys,
having an issue with me phone!
it randomly turns off network connectivity.
eg, disables reception so i can't make calls, sms or use data.
i have tried rebooting phone
i have tried doing factory reset
but it still randomly does this at times.
also when i go into my network settings i get PROCESS.COM.ANDROID.PHONE IS NOT RESPONDING!
so i can't even turn on/fix/choose network!
*edit*
i can sometimes access my network settings without the error but i have now found out that EVERYTIME i reboot the phone my network is disabled on startup and i have to go to network settings, then get the error and force exit then reopen it again and it enables the network!
could anyone share some light?
thanks.
Ahh , old error..
which version are you running on currently...?
Join the Club.
I had 2 Razrs both had the dreaded self power down issue so a manual power on was the only way to turn it back on. One of the phones the 3rd actually just died on its own no batter power nothing. On all the phones I had this network issue, it would be at 4G then when it switches to 2G it actually turns the network off completely and then goes to 2G. It does this on many occasions and sometimes I'm wondering if I'm on a call and signal strength goes down I wonder if I will be cut off. Had all the phones have issues weeks apart and awaiting the return of the 3rd phone from the service center I can't offer much more than what I have experienced so far. What I have found on this phone is that the signal quality isn't great in fact the SG2 I"m using right now on average has a better signal than the Razr. I'm also wondering if the self power down is attributed to the loss of signal, where the phone continues to look for a signal and don't find one and then powers down?
Try to check your smart setting.

XT 310???????????????????
I think its a typo
anyways, I had the problem.. but then I upgraded the baseband to 85P and it is okay now..
If the baseband is correct then, install the application CATLOG and start logging... in case the phone throws the error, catch the data and post it here..

~So I haven't really seen anyone else with this issue so I don't know how to fix it.
My phone likes to randomly not load things via internet. Mostly happens with ATT Data connections, but sometimes it happens with Wifi as well I believe (hasn't happened with wifi in a long time).
I can try and load a page and it will simply not load a thing for a good while (sometimes hours), then all of a sudden it will load like it's on a 10MB connection.
Happens with the internet browser, facebook, and any internet apps. Really gets annoying when I'm trying to browse the internet
I have tried different APNs to no avail, tried turning wifi on/off, changing all wifi settings, etc.
Anyone got any suggestions? (Maybe I'm just retarded and there's a well-known fix for this... at least I can hope right?)
Thanks
EDIT: It also used to never send MMS until I changed APN's if that makes any difference. Just not sure if its a software/setting issue, or if its hardware that needs to be replaced.
There are two APN settings, one of which is used by MMS. It sounds as if your APN settings might have been wrong at one point. What are your APN settings now?
Are you on a different ROM? Do you use a 3rd party app to disable and enable the data connection (to save power)? I know my app sometimes doesn't turn the data back on, so I have to go in and do it myself.
Is this your first phone with AT&T? If so, where did you transfer form? Did you have a data plan with your previous carrier? Did you buy your phone from Amazon?

My APN settings are the "phone" HSPA and "phone" MMS settings from the large thread in this forum.
The phone isn't even rooted. No different ROM, just a stock phone. No 3rd party apps that disable/enable data.

I've had ATT for a decade or so now. Phone bought and activated in an ATT store, and last phone I had was an iPhone, so whatever data plan that used was what I was previously using. I would assume they changed the plan to reflect the android device (if there is any difference), but I wouldn't really know because it is on our family account.
Anybody got any clue? This is really annoying the **** out of me. Also found out my brothers phone (on same family plan) is doing the same thing.

Maybe download Tweakker from the market; it automatically rewrites APN settings for your phone and carrier. CM7 uses wap.cingular, and I used Tweakker to change it from that. Worked, no probs, loved me long time, yada yada.
Thanks, just downloaded it. We'll see if it makes any difference.
Worked great until just now. Lost internet again. Thanks though.
Any other ideas?
i am on AOKP, not sure if you have the options to do the following in stock but try.
1.do you have the option of deleting APN? delete all...
2. force the phone to look for wireless carriers (takes like 4 minutes).
3. click on At&t to registet on it.
4. reboot and the original apn should be there.
I reset it back to the original APN but I dont expect it to help... I had the problem even before I started messing with the APN. We'll see how it goes though.
Any other suggestions are still welcome.
I have a similar, if not the same problem. I have concluded that it's either a modem/hardware issue or network issue. Every one and a while, I'll have to wait ~20 seconds for the internet. This always happens on AT&T data. Once the connection is made, the green and orange data indicators light up and the page loads just fine. Changing the APN's increases my internet speed by a lot, but does not fix the latency issue.
Someday I'll get around to calling AT&T.

Sounds like the same issue to me.
I keep thinking I should go to the ATT store but I really dont feel like having them do a reset of my phone then send me home without actually fixing anything.
Have you noticed what kind of connection you have? I don't use stock, so I haven't thoroughly tested this there, but I believe I experience the same issue. I'm running CyanogenMod 7, and what I see is that whenever the phone drops to 3G, I don't get data. I can force 2G (Edge), which works, and if I pick up HSPA+, I get data. If I'm in fairly sketchy signal areas (bad parts of buildings, fairly far from towers, etc.), I'll notice it flip-flopping back and forth between 3G and H+, with no data. I've never had an issue with wifi not properly loading anything.
I did try switching back to stock for a couple of hours, and it appeared my issues were more along the lines of what you describe, without actually displaying a flip to 3G when I can't get data...but like I said, I don't use stock on a regular basis.
NINJA EDIT: I'm on my second phone with this issue, after getting a refurb due to a USB port going bad. I've tried flashing multiple modems, and have been able to increase my speed, but have not been able to fix the issue when I drop to 3G.

Im in an area where I constantly get 4G or LTE... I haven't really noticed a correlation between the drops and whether or not its on 4G/LTE. I haven't experienced it on Wifi in a very long time though.
Also, the stock APN seems to magnify the problems greatly. Switched back to the Tweakker APN and it runs much better (although it still happens occasionally)
Had the same issue as you, try my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199 it seems to have helped many!

Off the bat with my phone, i have been having bad GPS connectivity issues. I would launch google navigation and get an instant lock. After a while, it would loose connection and say "searching for gps". It would never connect until i exited navigation, and turned off the gps and turned it back on. Then relaunched google nav and instant lock again. Then I also started noticing that on my htc sense clock widget, where it would show you the weather and the town in which you are in, it would only say "Current Location" no matter what I do. I went as far as resetting the phone back to factory settings which corrected the location issue at first but then it reverted back "Current Location". Any thoughts on this? If i cant figure this out, I will probably end up taking the phone back.
I had the same issue, I did prl updates and all other updates in the update software, and havent had and issue yet.

Does your weather widget default to Illinois, but when you try maps, it shows a true location? I switched my roaming mode, but the weather widget is still glitchy in one area here in Houston.
I didn't have the GPS issue, but I had the weather as well as roaming and update time issues. I took my phone back and got a new one today. So far so good, but it has only been 2 hours since the exchange.

GPS/Sprint Issue
From the time I received the phone every location based app has given me problems. Multiple attempts, varying results but mostly bad. Now been to 3 separate sprint stores, multiple phone calls and still can not get a clear resolution. I want to replace with another phone but am getting the runaround. Saying I have to get it looked at to verify an issue. This has already been done and if they do not move from the desk, how are they going to verify weak GPS to continual no connections? Will continue to escalate but strangulation is an option. I had the Evo 4g before with no issue. Does anyone have this phone with functional/reliable GPS?
Sprint store changed the phone mode to 3g only from 3g/lte setting. Gps worked and will check more later. Other gps apps are working also

Normally I only have 5 Quick Settings icons enabled (Quick Memo, Wifi, Sound Profile, Data, and Bluetooth), however every time I reboot my phone, the Wifi Calling icon re-enables itself and pushes itself in between the Data and Bluetooth toggles, pushing Bluetooth off of the screen. I realize that it's easy to just go back into the 'Quick Settings' settings and un-tick Wifi Calling again, but it gets really annoying when I reboot multiple times a day. Does anyone know of a more permanent solution besides just un-ticking the box every time I reboot? If it helps, I am using the Gold edition G3 from Sprint (obviously) and I'm rooted. This 'problem' has been going on since I got the phone.
I have the exact same issue, but I have my WiFi Calling quick setting button enabled. Normally I have Bluetooth in the fifth and right most spot, but WiFi Calling always forces it's way back to that spot upon a reboot, pushing BT to the next page.
In the Edit menu, they show correctly but they are actually flipped, so I just move one of them then move it right back.
Not a huge problem, it's just a weird little glitch I've never seen before on any other device.
I was just about to post about the same situation (wifi callling always showing in quick settings).
Is there a fix to this. It is getting annoying because I never use wifi calling yet it always shows up in quick settings even though I always uncheck it the quick settings options

New update dropping today!
Details:
https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1086930
Sweet, they finally pushed WiFi calling to the S7.
That explains why the security update took longer than usual, AT&T has been knocking them out the first week or so of every month till now.
Thanks, downloading now.
Installed on the regular S7.
So I updated (took about 1 hour to download and update). Immediately I noticed 3 things:
1) A notification with a link to a Display Settings dialog with the option to change DPI between Large and Small. "Settings-> Device->Display->Display scaling" will get you there later. This dialog box is not new; previously you could only reach it by adding .DisplayScalingActivity to Nova Launcher. What used to be called "Standard" is now called "Larger". What used to be called "Condensed" is now called "Smaller".
2) Wi-Fi calling was added to my quick notification settings. It is turned off by default. Toggling it on brought me to a setup wizard asking me to update my physical address for emergency 9-1-1 service. "Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi Calling" will get you there later. A very small "+" appears within the standard Wi-Fi status bar icon when Wi-Fi calling is ready. Both my Wi-Fi and cellular signals are strong yet the icon comes and goes. I initiated a Wi-Fi call to voicemail and it asked for my password, which does not happen for cellular calls.
3) Android security patch level: July 1, 2016
Scaling is standard in U firmware and also via a display scaling app in the play store. Just an FYI

Perhaps, but this update added it to the stock AT&T firmware...finally,
Flashed stock then updated to this. Even wiped first. Advanced messaging is useless unless someone else has it. Connected to wifi since setup and it hasn't once shown the icon wifi calling is available.

I'm highly considering going without root. I do think battery was slightly better stock as well.. also I really miss Samsung pay.. and there isn't much to do with Xposed.. I got the notification bar to display network speed and AdBlock..oh and call record is nice but not necessary... other than that, not much to do with root on this device unless someone can fill me in..i can install trebuchet and Google keyboard without root.. also I miss being able to sign into my chase app with fingerprint..

I tried to test the wifi calling out and turned on airplane mode and then turned wifi back on. It shows the wifi calling symbol on top, but when i try to make a call a notice pops up telling me I have to turn airplane mode back off to make a call. It seems that it should make a wifi call just fine with only wifi active? Has anyone else tried this with success?

Well it's very strange. I did several power cycles (on / off) and cleared the cache in recovery and it now wifi calling seems to be working in airplane mode. It's working for now with both calls and texts. I guess its just buggy. Hopefully clearing the cache did the trick.
