Is there any way to prevent Android (4.1) phone from switching to another operator's network in case of poor signal reception?
Actually, the switching itself is OK, but the phone takes very long to switch back to the home network, even after the signal condition getting OK (the phone is moving in the car).
is it something that network operator can configure e.g. on the SIM card or the phone itself?

O.K. - so I live in a place which picks up 3 countries mobile signals. One is my "Home" country.
Whilst wandering round, my phone, if set to Auto, will frequently pick up the other countries network.
Not a problem.
However it very rarely returns to the "Home" network by itself.
In older phones there was a way of setting a preferred network list etc.
Is there any way to do this on the S2?
I do not want to disable roaming, I want the S2 to go "Ah, home network in range, I'm changing over to it, even though I still have a good signal on the foreign network."
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!
Adrian.
Hi everyone,
I live in an area where the signal of my current provider is very weak. This means that my phone will often roam. I have no problem with that, but whenever im in an area that my provider covers well, my phone won't stop roaming automatically....I always have to manually switch it back to my provider. Does anyone have any suggestion to fix this?
And another question: Can I force my phone to NOT roam...at all? Not just data-roam but also gsm-roam?
I'd like to share the following info with all those who have identical problem with me.
Symptoms:
Phone randomly looses network carries signal, shows few or full bar reception signal strength but can`t receive or place a call until restart or manual/automatic network selection is initiated.
Solution:
Change / Adjust the network connection speed according to signal coverage, settings -> mobile network -> highest network connection speed. Usually lower the speed.
In my case it defaulted to 3G and i tried setting it to 2G, which solved the symptoms described before.
try change SIM card... if that not help maybe problem is in SIM card holder

probably i was not clear enough. I had (past tense) that problem, now i don't. btw i did tryed changing sim cards, hard reset, even sim card from one other network operator (who also had weak 3G signal), i was googling and googling and googling .... and somewhere i did find that sugestion for simmilar problem.
I had a similar problem, but found that the SIM was just a tiny bit loose. Once I popped it out, reseated it and re-inserted it, I didn't have that problem agaon.

HI, I am a lucky (for now) owner of OPX.
I have problem with network switching. Iam living in small village and i have to use network roaming (yes, i can use others providers network as well for free - in my country).
I'am in P4 network(base/mother network), but in my village there is no good signal for this network - so, i just using another one - usually PTC 3G because this network has best signal in my area.
I have few android phones in the same network (P4) and when i select network, phones do not switch to any other network - even if there is no signal of this network (Nexus4, Nexus5, Sony Xperia Z and CAT S40).
With OPX its different, and very problematic. When i switch to PTC network, it works and not switch to any other network until i left the phone and let it for sleep... (5-10 min) then network switch to the base network P4 and ussually there is no signal in this network, and i have to wait until i can make a call or send SMS message. I dont have the problem with any other phone. I see, that the problem intensifies in specifed room, where is Wifi(dualband) router - but not only. I suppose, its software problem.
EDIT: Switching to P4 network happens when phone screen is off and phone is in idle, after turn on the screen and waiting few seconds, phone ussualy connecting to PTC netwok with good signal.
Screen with bad signal: 1drv.ms/1JmvSU1
EDIT2: I found another freaky thing, after while of phone IDLE, iam turning on screen, and there is full P4 signal, after 1-3sec freeze (yes, freeze, laag) signal agin is 0 and i can enter phone PIN code to unlock.
And there is my question, how to make this works well ? Is there any way to force select only one network ? (i dont need switchning). Maybe can i do this with root privilieges ? I hope, you can help me guys.
